So for years growing up as a kid this was the day to visit my grandmothers home and see all my family , to give thanks for all we have and enjoyed all the home cooking of my polish grandmother who made over 500 peirogies for the day and all the polish cookies. It was also the day of football and here in Michigan the Detroit lions more importantly it is a day to reflect on what's really important and to get a break from the news .. We use to have some 40 family members come to granny house for the day.
But as things change and us kids all grew up who are now in our 60s all those aunt , and uncles, and grandparents are now all gone and there is no more hanging out at grannys house. What great memories they are. So now we forge new paths, today I will still be watching the football when I can but I will be delivering thanksgiving dinners to family's who can't do so on their own. We're cooking some 12 turkeys today thru the American legion and us vets are volunteering to deliver the meals thru our small community. Its a nice way to say thank you for what we have and who we are.
I wish all of you here in the states a very peaceful and blessed thanksgiving day today.

Cousins, uncles & aunts, grandparents, a house full of wonderful smells, noisy and festive - all accepted at face value when you are a kid.
I'm grateful to have had the experience of this joy.

So I got to deliver thanksgiving dinners for 4 hrs Today, some of the memorable deliveries , one veteran around 60 yrs old was so thankful that we delivered dinner to his home, he's been battling cancer for a year, cancer in his spleen, bladder and brain. Having such a hard time making ends meet but was still optimistic and fluid with his communication . He said he worked in construction for 41 years, we left his home with intentions of getting him more help and he was smiling.
Then another delivery the guy who was around 40 just lost his job after 7 years, has 4 kids, his wife is disabled and again optimistic, she said she was so embarrassed asking for help. We left There vowing to find more resources for her family too. What a day , all kinds of stories like that.
It's experiences like this that bring you home . The thanksgiving was just to receive the smiles and thanks of gratitude. We will help these family's in the weeks to come.

It's not like that in the industry. We just charge you money for convenience. In the vast majority of cases, the season is so frantic and overloaded that you have nothing but resentment and the day off, if you get it, is like nothing.
This is the first year I found somewhere to work that was lower-demand and more efficient. Had forty-one orders a few days ago, and, I doubt that it totaled fifty by today. That was pretty easy and without waste.
On the other hand, it caused so many chickens to go straight in the trash, probably every efficient order we served equated to three or four entire chickens cooked for the trash dump.
In terms of this:

when you are just "the guy", it is your problem, and your fault, there isn't any such thing as "help" in any legitimate sense of the word.
So, this day is for "special" people, if you are common and experience "poverty" and "food insecurity", then it is ok to say you represent a substantial chunk of America.
I know my place, I will just prowl for a few leftovers after everyone is done suiting themselves.
