Annie Jacobsen: Nuclear War, CIA, KGB, Aliens, Area 51, Roswell & Secrecy | Lex Fridman Podcast #420
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXgGR8KxFao 3:07:26
Annie Jacobsen is an American investigative journalist, author, and a 2016 Pulitzer Prize finalist. Her most recent book (pictured below) will be released on 28th March 2024. At 3+ hours it's a long video but the timestamp below will help if you want to skip parts. I'm only 30 minutes in, but it's riveting and given the current escalation in both Ukraine and Palestine, the more information we have about nuclear war the better. I really hope that if the world comes through these wars intact that systems will be put in place to ensure, once and for all, that the possibility of Nuclear War is nil.

Many thanks indeed, and I'm just 30 minutes in as well. :)
A few interim comments:
Russian nuclear weapons are more modern, potent, tested and reliable than American ones. It's not the number of weapons that counts, it's their potential effectiveness, and whether they would (a) actually work and (b) not get shot down.
Russian anti-missile systems (S-400, S-500, and S-550) are also far superior than US Patriot systems.
The US would almost certainly never intervene in a nuclear exchange in Europe. They'd stay out of it and let the Europeans fend for themselves.
Annie Jacobsen means well, for sure, but is very mainstream. (See her earlier Area 51 book, for instance.) At 18:35 she asserts that Russia is "sort of threatening" to use tactical nukes "right now". That's not true, and is just part of the western narrative. But Russia WILL use nukes (and strategic ones, too), if their very existence as a nation state is threatened. That's the stated core component of their published nuclear doctrine.
This wasn't part of Jacobsen's presentation (or focus), but Israel may be the greater danger. The 'Samson Option' is that if their own existence is seriously endangered, they'd take down everyone else with them. That's NOT the same as the doctrines of either the US or Russia.
And maybe most worrying of all: the US President is supposed to be the executive decision-maker in the event of action needing to be taken regarding a nuclear strike. But the very idea of Biden being given 6 minutes to make such a critical decision all on his own is both laughable and terrifying.
Highly recommended: the terrific Avalon thread Two men who saved the world (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?111673-Two-men-who-saved-the-world&highlight=saved) — two astonishing true stories from the Cold War, that only emerged years later.
Finally (for now), a great quote from the excellent 1997 movie The Peacemaker. "I'm not afraid of the man who wants ten nuclear weapons. I'm terrified of the man who only wants one."

Some more movie references. Very relevant and not at all trivial, as the themes are well-thought out and instructive (and extremely well-produced and acted, too.)
Fail Safe (both versions, 1964 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Sound_of_Thunder_(film)) and 2000 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fail_Safe_(2000_film))), about a nuclear strike against Moscow caused by a system error.
Crimson Tide (1995 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimson_Tide_(film))), about a mutiny on a US nuclear submarine over whether or not to launch missiles against Russia after a malfunction leaves the launch order ambiguous.
The Sum of All Fears (2002 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sum_of_All_Fears_(film))), about a rogue nuke suitcase bomb that the US has assumed Russia is responsible for.
The War Game (1966) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_War_Game) and Threads (1984 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threads_(1984_film))), considered by many as the two most terrifying and realistic docudramas ever made.

“All it takes is one nihilistic madman with a nuclear arsenal” – quote by Richard Garwin from the above interview
Firstly, here’s a link to transcript. I found it easier to digest than the interview, which moves along at pace:.
https://www.happyscribe.com/public/lex-fridman-podcast-artificial-intelligence-ai/420-annie-jacobsen-nuclear-war-cia-kgb-aliens-area-51-roswell-secrecy
A case in point:
“a nuclear armed, nuclear powered submarine is as dangerous to civilization as an asteroid. They are unstoppable. They are unlocatable. The former chief of the nuclear submarine forces, Admiral Michael Connor, said it's easier to find a grapefruit sized object in space than a submarine under the sea. So these things are like hell machines, and they're moving around throughout the oceans. Ours (ie USA), Russia's, China's, maybe, North Korea's, constantly. And we now know they're sneaking up to the east and west coast of the United States within a couple hundred miles”.
According to Chat GPT, there are approximately 160 nuclear submarines in the world. UK and France have 4 each and the rest are owned by United States, Russia, China and India. Google reveals that 9 nuclear submarines have sunk and although there must be multi safety levels built into the craft, presumably they still post an environmental threat.
Overall, what was brought home to me from this interview was that nuclear war today would be nothing like Hiroshima or Nagasaki, horrific though they were. Forget about evacuation, bug-out bag or getting to a place of safety, even if you could get to a spot miles underground. Spending 6 minutes running to a “safe place” would seem to be to waste the last 6 minutes of our lives.
In the meantime I’m working my way through the transcript . . .

At 1:43:25, Jacobsen refers to a 1985 collection of several major essays about nuclear winter called The Cold and The Dark, which I'd been unaware of. I found it, and it's now in the Avalon Library.

The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out the illegal expansion of US borders in the Arctic
Russia does not recognize the outer limits of the continental shelf announced by the United States in December 2023 beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines, the Russian Foreign Ministry said. The department noted that Moscow expressed a demarche to Washington on a bilateral basis in connection with plans to illegally expand the boundaries of the continental shelf.
Currently, the city of Kingston (Jamaica) is hosting a session of the Council of the International Seabed Authority, which is designed to regulate the activities of states in the deep seabed area. It operates in accordance with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea.
During the session, the Russian delegation announced its non-recognition of the outer limits of the continental shelf declared unilaterally by the United States in December 2023 beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the width of the territorial sea is measured in seven regions of the World Ocean
– emphasized in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Diplomats pointed out that the White House is trying to reduce the area under the jurisdiction of the Seabed Council and acquire additional shelf areas for its own use, which is about one million square kilometers. The Russian department noted that the unilateral steps of the United States do not comply with the rules and procedures established by international law.

But I still find it hard to swallow her theory about the Roswell crash that...
"Stalin was able to get a craft over the United States and it crashed and it know people inside of it, they were people that were sort of deformed and meant surgically altered to look like aliens."
She revels that source for that story is...
"Al O'Donnell, who is the nuclear weapons engineer who armed, wired, and fired 186 nuclear weapons. Okay? So if you want to talk about. You're the first person I've told that on the record, but it's kind of about time."
I found an article about the man for who ever is interested.

If I am correct:
When someone says: "Radius of 9 Kilometers aka 5.6 Miles" you have to double that size that makes it 18 km/11.2 Miles and that is just 1 point to another point on a 2D map!
What you see in the video below is not "just 1 point to another point on the map" but "squared"! >>> 18 Km squared is alt least an impact of 324 Km/201 Miles area! >>> not counting the aftermath of the surrounding area outside the zone of impact!... Aftermath like: the enormous shockwave & super heat wave affecting 40 Km/24.85 Miles squared and the radiation fall out of contaminated particles coming down, making a huge area at least 100Km/62 Miles squared unlivable for centuries!
And that was a Russian made weapon, ready for use in 1961 ... 63 years ago! ... Let that sink in for a moment!

Another interview with Annie Jacobsen, a couple of hours long and published 4 days ago. The interview itself starts a couple of minutes in after the (maybe unnecessarily!) dramatic intro.
I've not listened to all of this yet, but I will. Annie has some mainstream views, for sure, but her focus on the topic right now may be instructive and timely.

An update on the above. I'm now 45 minutes in, and it's riveting — even more so than the earlier Annie Jacobsen interview posted above (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?122878-Nuclear-War-Annie-Jacobsen&p=1606534&viewfull=1#post1606534). (And refreshingly, she seems to largely steer clear of current geopolitical issues and potential propaganda-driven prejudices.)
It motivated me to find her book (Nuclear War: A Scenario), which is now in the Avalon Library. (https://avalonlibrary.net/ebooks/Annie%20Jacobsen%20-%20Nuclear%20War.pdf)

I've now finished listening (there's nothing to 'watch'), and I was transfixed throughout.
There were one or two brief (though equally interesting) diversions into DARPA and Area 51, but each time the conversation returned to topic. The interviewer here (Steven Bartlett) is VERY good, better than Lex Fridman in the first interview on this thread. There's a heart-centered theme that runs through the two hours, so very welcome against the backdrop of such potentially inhuman horror.

Which is why I believe such a scenario will never be allowed to happen to the majority of humans, or the Earth. There are forces out there who have Humanity's back., and this planet we are on is simply not ours to destroy 'just like that'.

Bill, I ask this question in all sincerity...why do I want to know all this? I'm a relatively intelligent woman, I've lived quite a long time, I think I know as much about this as I want to. It is utterly beyond my control. I use my spiritual, mental and physical powers as well as I can. I think intention and kindness are my main choices in my daily life. I feel this same way about the extinction possibilities with solar phenomena. I just choose to not read about it at length, fill my mind with possibilities of the destruction that could come, and may actually come, or may not. What does that accomplish? I don't know how one would do that and not increase fear and foreboding. Actually, I agree with Mari in the post above that that will not be how the earth ends. But even if it does, what is gained about knowing and dwelling on it? I don't see this as a "head in the sand" approach at all, but rather a choice as to how to determine the quality of my days. I also am not one to do unlimited reading on a daily basis, and so I choose what I want to focus on. I would like yours and others thoughts on this as I sometimes feel there is judgement (not especially from you) about those who don't choose to make this a very big part of their reality.

There would be "Fire from the Sky" (an exact quote from the Fatima and Akita prophecies, though as best I know this person had been unaware of those),
There would probably be a major war (but one that in theory could be averted if humans "did the right things"),
That whether there was a war or not, "the evil would be destroyed", but
The Earth itself would NOT be permitted to be destroyed.
So I track all this, rather like watching a point traveling on an animated map. (This is why I also follow Ben Davidson's Suspicious 0bservers solar activity reports.) If the evil were to be destroyed, even though quite a lot else might be as well, that might be a GOOD thing. :flower:
I've written elsewhere that my personal best-guess timescale for this was 2028-29, although a couple of weeks ago I got a very strong, clear 'flash' download that the date (for something! But I believe it was a major solar event) was more likely September 2027. That's earlier than Ben Davidson predicts, but it's within the range of possibility.
I was thinking while listening to the interview a couple hours ago exactly what Mari said above (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?122878-Nuclear-War-Annie-Jacobsen&p=1613965&viewfull=1#post1613965): that the ETs would not permit a full-scale end-of-everything holocaust. And I fully believe that. What form the warned-of war might take (IF it happens) would seem most likely to be a nuclear exchange of some kind, but NOT a launch-everything Dr. Strangelove apocalypse that would be the end of humanity.
So in summary, my own interest in this is simply to track and understand claimed likelihoods of events. I kind of regard it rather as my job. Sometimes, when I focus intently on something like this (as in getting drawn into a very vivid interview or documentary), I do get downloads, which I dutifully record in my journal each time.
But I can't make them happen (no matter how much I try! :P), they arrive totally spontaneously if and when they do — and today, even listening intently to Annie Jacobsen and her own dire hypothetical scenario, I got nothing further at all.

The year was 1992!
It all seems such a long time ago now but it is the information we received then that keeps me sane and grounded in these stressful days being thrust upon us by God knows who …
We were in contact with those ‘enigmatic men from the stars’ , as Margo’s guide Jane Taylor referred to them , or ETs for want of a better word, and this is a part of the communications from a planet known to its inhabitants as IXOLT.
“Some time ago a few of our fellow beings spoke to you. They returned and now we have come from IXOLT, the ones with the creamy skin.
We came in another golden craft, larger than the last.
Our predecessors were sad over the cruelty of man. We are making a recording of all we see and hear over this, and the attitude of man.
The sea is being poisoned. The creatures of the oceans that are more intelligent than man are being caught, killed or trained to perform.
But we are so surprised at the cruelty to one another, man against man in so many lands.
We have nothing like this. We are happy intelligent beings, and so like man to look at, but not in nature.
Next time come with love in your heart. You are fortunate to be more intelligent than than a lot of your fellow creatures; you hear and see, so many are blind and deaf, so you can be contacted in clear air which is up high.
I, the Exoltian, can contact you once more through Intergalactic Control System.
Did you know that from other galaxies we can belong to this group, as you appear to?
The hole in your Ozone layer, as you call it, is very large and your leaders only talk and do nothing. The scientific men, who are only infants to us, should work out a formula using the XY minus codes to find the solution , it can be done. We had trouble a long time ago, many hundreds of Earth years, and we solved it - equations, logarithms, as your learned men call them. Never mind those infantile computers, which do not give accurate results, they are for young children to play with.
We will see if we can help by using some of our knowledge. You need help urgently. I shall report on this in a week or so as I have to communicate with base. I am pleased you belong as you are friendly towards us.”
That evening I asked the question - ‘Why do the Exoltians not use the media and TV directly?’
Margo’s guide John Powles answered in this manner -
“It has proved more difficult than to get through to powerful mediums, and it is better to get through to individuals as it is taken more notice of. People do not know what goes on behind closed doors of government and OUR LEADERS KNOW MORE THAN THEY LET ON TO TJE GENERAL PUBLIC. You must realise that the time is not right for the public to know. They have tried to use TV since VOICE FROM SPACE (November 26 1977) but it hasn’t worked as those in charge of broadcasting we’re aware of what was happening and blacked it out.”
That was 1977 and here we are in 2024, still on the road to nowhere! War and destruction of nature continue to ravage our home planet. We live in very dangerous times and need to hang on to our very souls in this godless society. The warnings continue, but are humanity prepared to listen and change their ways?
Are they also prepared to understand that we are not alone in this universe, and never have been. We are children of the universe and not just Earth!
The IXOLTIAN continues:
“The large hole is responsible for many disasters, like floods and cyclones. Your scientists are useless. I have been informed that they would not know what the ‘minus code’ I gave them was. This is so simple to us and it is in our interest that this hole gets smaller instead of growing as IT AFFECTS OUR PLANS FOR PLANET EARTH IN THE FUTURE.
I may speak again in a week.”
“Once more from the ship from IXOLT I greet you. We are working very hard and are sure we can succeed with our mission. I understand you have heard of strange beings who take over the bodies of Earthling. This is unknown to us, and I am sure we know more on this subject than anyone, so be careful not to believe all you hear.
There are many planets that have life on them more intelligent than yours as I know you are aware of this.
WE HAVE A PLAN FOR PLANET EARTH AND IT IS NOT TO BE DESTROYED, so be assured our work is not for your distress.
Words come difficult at times. Be prepared to hear me again.”
“Greetings once more from our craft which is beyond the reach of your primitive radar system. I hear your remarks.
We are about six to six and one quarter of earthly feet in height. I hope that satisfies your earthly curiosity!
Yes, we realise two of you once lived on our planet. This was before our grandfather’s time, as you would call them.
(Margo’s guide, Jane Taylor, meanwhile had informed her of a life on IXOLT between lives on LEMURIA and ATLANTIS. It was during this lifetime she met and worked with Brian Wells, the father of Robin Wells)
Now to Earth’s problems. The ozone hole we are taking care of, it will get no larger and should get smaller. Global warming will not get beyond what it is, and the Earth is not tilting as some of your primitive people are saying.
WE PLAN MUCH LATER TO ENTER THE EARTH’S POPULATION, YET IT WILL BE WITH THE EARTH’S PEOPLE’S BLESSING AND NOT BY FORCE
I shall not be there myself. I hope this answers any further queries you have on this subject.
You may or may not hear from time to time from us or our neighbours. I am pleased to make contact”
That was the final message from the Ixoltians yet I believe we are still being monitored by those enigmatic men from the stars who truly have our welfare at heart. Their energies are here to counteract those of the agenda being played out on Earth at this time in the war for the souls of humanity.

In the meantime I’m working my way through the transcript . . .

Most interestingly, at the very end of her book (https://avalonlibrary.net/ebooks/Annie%20Jacobsen%20-%20Nuclear%20War.pdf), Annie Jacobsen refers to Göbekli Tepe, describing it as a kind of never-give-up-all-hope inspiration.
Here's how that section begins, at page 278. She acknowledges that the people who built Göbekli Tepe knew some kind of great catastrophe, either just before their time or during their lives. It all sounds very somber, but the point she makes is that no matter what happens to our current civilization, humans will always survive, and so will Planet Earth.
~~~
Years pass. Hundreds of years. Thousands of years.
The life-sustaining capacity of the terrestrial environment, greatly reduced at first, becomes revitalized and rejuvenated. Temperatures return to prewar conditions. New species develop and thrive.
So much has been damaged, but planet Earth has a way of always recovering and repairing herself, at least so far. The soil rebounds, as does the quality of the water supply. The ultraviolet rays that sent human survivors underground have softened and become nurturing again.
If human beings do survive, how will they begin anew? And will these new humans of the future become archaeologists? Will they ever know we were all once here?
Ten thousand . . . twenty thousand . . .
Twenty-four thousand years pass.
Roughly twice as long as the approximate amount of time it took for humans to evolve from hunter-gatherers to today. The radiation poisoning from nuclear World War III has naturally decayed.
Will future humans find any traces of us? Of our societies that we once built, advanced, and made thrive?
~~~
Her answer is Yes, of course. She goes on to say that our own detailed history would become myth and legend, but that teams of intelligent, organized and capable humans would come together, as they always do, and rebuild.
(What she doesn't say is that this kind of wipe-out-and-restart, no matter how it was caused, may have happened quite a number of times before.)

Bill Ryan -
One of the pillars at Gobekli Tepe contains the markings for "flood", and based upon the historical timeline I believe that they were predicting the comet strike that caused the Black Sea to flood most of the Levant about 7300 BC. But there were many floods and yes, many groups of humans that fell and later restarted anew.

Hi RRR
No problem, although the quote about the nuclear submarine isn't mine. It was taken directly from the Transcript of the first video with Annie Jacobsen and Lex Fridman from 26:21.
Interestingly, however, I just googled that quote with the prefix: "Who said . . . ." and the quote was actually made by Michael Crichton, author and scriptwriter of Jurassic Park during a speech at the National Press Club on January 25, 2005. It was described as a "hyperbolic" statement to stress the serious nature of nuclear deterrence and associated ongoing challenges. Annie Jacobsen then follows that statement with another from Admiral Michael Connor, "It's easier to find a grapefruit-sized object in space than a submarine under the sea" and continues with the rest of your question and then answers it more fully. Give it a listen Rob . . .
As an aside "they" could also be the naval fleets of all the countries in the world as they're all on manoeuvres when they're not at war, aren't they, practicing for the main event (tongue in cheek). Talking of which, here's a cheeky tale:
Many years ago in Cape Town, an article appeared in a Sunday paper about standard naval manoeuvres taking place just off the coast; unbeknown to the South African ship taking part, the submarine had broken down on its way from Simonstown but another submarine - thought to be Russian - took on the role with gusto, completed the exercise and then headed back out to sea, all without revealing who they were!

She explains that there's a system called SOSUS (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SOSUS) (Sound Surveillance System) which is very complex, and can identify where the subs were but not where they are in real time.
SOSUS type systems, such as sound buoys, have been in use since the Vietnam war - but that only gives them a general idea. How they know that they are creeping in is because our subs shadow theirs and vice versa. When one of theirs exits the arctic heading south, we have one or two on its tail at all times. In fact we use these "exercises" to determine how good our silent running techniques are, and to determine if the unfriendlies have advanced any of their tech.
I handled the traffic between ComNavSubPac and the Pacific Fleet of Subs for four years. I would put them and their skills ahead of the AirForce any day of the week. Once a pilot overflew China by accident - went 75 miles in country, and the ChiComs wound up to let loose on him. He was carrying nuclear weapons at the time. We almost lost it that day. The US is capable of anything, including sending a plane over, only to lose it, just to test China's response, or sending a ship right off N Korea just to plant fake intel on them. Lost the ship and the crew tortured, some killed, the rest maligned? No Problemo. We once sent a National Geographic type wooden sail craft right off the coast of China, setting depth charges to "chart the coral reefs or something" - almost lost it that day as well. But we found out how their radar worked on wooden craft. No problem that the scientists had no idea what was up. Nasty things go on all the time, and today is no exception.
When one of ours exits Conn. or Virginia, they have one of theirs on ours. With nuclear power, they can stay roaming for more than a year, and with the new snorkel systems, stay underwater for long periods of time. Once they "paint' the side of the unfriendly, much like the Army ground troops paint their targets for missile strikes, satellites can take over the tracking. But the shadowing goes on.

I think this also belongs on this thread, a very interesting 20 minute presentation by Paul Jay, a journalist and filmmaker who is currently working on a documentary titled How to Stop a Nuclear War based on Daniel Ellsberg’s book “The Doomsday Machine."
There are some key things here that appear to have been overlooked by Annie Jacobsen, despite her clearly having interviewed a great many senior people directly connected with the American military and intelligence agencies.
In the video below, which is only part of Paul Jay's presentation (so there's no introduction), 'Dan' is Daniel Ellsburg. The key takeaway from this is that the whole nuclear arms race that was initiated after WWII was a strategy by the American military arms manufacturers to continue to stay in business and profit greatly from it. I have no difficulty fully believing that this was the case.
How to Stop a Nuclear War

From the YouTube text:
~~~
Militarism and financialization became crucial parts of the U.S. economy and politics since World War I. In 1934, Smedley Butler, a highly decorated American soldier, wrote a book titled "War is a Racket," which exposed the profit motives behind warfare.
As Daniel Ellsberg pointed out, after World War II, the development of nuclear weapons and the Cold War narrative provided the foundation for an even greater expansion of the military-industrial-financial complex. Today, the militarist “racket” has led to an all-out nuclear arms race that threatens, not only our economy, but our very existence.
~~~
The four ways to avert nuclear war that Paul Jay summarizes and explains are:
Eliminate the US's "Launch on warning" doctrine.
Phase out ICMBs.
Negotiate a new ABM (Anti Ballistic Missile) Treaty.
Start to think about the nuclear launch problems potentially posed by emerging AI.
Here's Daniel Ellsburg's important book, now in the Avalon Library:

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Russia does not violate international law, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday, commenting on the Pentagon's statement that Russia allegedly launched a satellite carrying a counterspace weapon.

"I cannot comment on this in any way. Here, we act absolutely in accordance with international law, we do not violate anything," Peskov told reporters.
On Tuesday, US Defense Department spokesperson Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said that Russia launched last week a satellite carrying a counterspace weapon that is presumably capable of attacking other satellites in low Earth orbit. Ryder claimed that Russia deployed the satellite without communicating this fact to the United States. On Wednesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov call the statement misinformation.
Russia has repeatedly advocated bans on the deployment of any weapons in space, but its initiatives are rejected, Peskov said.

Regarding silent submarines and SOSUS technologies there is actually quite a decent film that at least skirts around this very subject. A typical American driven action/drama where the US is the saviour from unstable irrational Russians, however for all that it is quite a decent and entertaining film if you don't get overanalytical.

Such sweet synchronicity ( :) ) as I have been scrolling through a pen-drive here this afternoon containing a whole heap of material that needs to be saved in the library and came across an MP3 and MP4 of an address that Daniel Ellsberg gave back in 1980.

I think this is very relevant here, as much of Annie Jacobsen's new book (and her many interviews about it) is about how easily a nuclear war could start by accident, and how the various early warning systems attempt to work.
On 5 January 2007, the BBC aired a documentary titled 1983: The Brink of Apocalypse. It's about how a major, scripted war game held by US and NATO called Able Archer alarmed the Soviets so much that they went on full nuclear launch alert, with pilots sitting ready in their cockpits and keys poised in bunkers to launch a full-on nuclear retaliation.
The documentary is superb, including interviews with former deeply embedded Cold War spies who — arguably — may have been the ones who really saved the day. It details how a whole bunch of coincidental factors all came together to create a perfect storm of justified paranoia on behalf of the Soviet leaders at the time, which the west had been blissfully unaware of.
(The documentary also features a fascinating interview with Stanislav Petro (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanislav_Petrov)v, who just a couple of months before Able Archer single-handedly defied all Soviet military protocol and — correctly! — disregarded an apparently very real Soviet warning of a US missile launch. For his pains, he was dismissed from the Soviet military and only years later did his remarkable story come to light. Do see this wonderful Avalon thread: Two men who saved the world (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?111673-Two-men-who-saved-the-world)).

Here's an accompanying BBC article, published years later in 2018, itself well worth reading in full.
https://bbc.com/future/article/20181108-the-wargame-that-could-have-ended-the-world
The war game that could have ended the world
A military exercise staged 35 years ago this week almost triggered World War Three. BBC Future reports on previously secret documents that reveal what happened.
On 7 November 1983, around 100 senior military officers gathered at Nato headquarters in Brussels to ‘fight’ World War Three. The annual simulation, known as Able Archer, came at the end of a large-scale conventional exercise – Autumn Forge – involving tens of thousands of Nato troops (https://www.nato.int/nato-welcome/index.html) across western Europe.
Able Archer 83 was held at a time of heightened Cold War tension. Relations between Warsaw Pact and Nato-aligned nations were as bad as they had ever been. Earlier in the year, US President Ronald Reagan had branded the Soviet Union an “evil empire.” And, in September, Soviet pilots had shot down a Korean Airlines 747 (http://news.bbc.co.uk/onthisday/hi/dates/stories/september/1/newsid_2493000/2493469.stm), killing all 269 people on board.
Meanwhile, both sides of the Iron Curtain were in the process of deploying medium range nuclear weapons – including cruise missiles based at Greenham Common in southern England (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-berkshire-41199648) – capable of striking targets within five minutes of launch. The world was on a nuclear hair-trigger.
According to the fictional scenario behind the Able Archer 83 war game, turmoil in the Middle East was putting a squeeze on Soviet oil supplies. Meanwhile, Yugoslavia – which wasn’t aligned to either side of the Cold War – decided to back the West. The Soviet leaders in the game feared this would lead to a cascade of other eastern European countries following suit, switching allegiance from the Warsaw Pact to Nato, and putting the entire communist system at risk.
(... the excellent article continues (https://bbc.com/future/article/20181108-the-wargame-that-could-have-ended-the-world))

...very sobering envisions on the plans for a nuclear war from Scott Ritter:
I'm listening to it right now, and yes, it's sobering indeed. Not that many analysts (including those currently in the Pentagon) know as much about nuclear weaponry as Scott does.
He's furious and disgusted, and at times sounded like someone about to jump off a bridge. It's pretty understandable given that he devoted a major part of his life to practical and workable nuclear disarmament, a great deal of which has now come undone — the US being almost entirely responsible. This fits on this thread because the very dangers of all this go hand in glove with all the warnings raised by Annie Jacobsen.

The INSTANT New York Times bestseller & Instant Los Angeles Times bestseller
“In Nuclear War: A Scenario, Annie Jacobsen gives us a vivid picture of what could happen if our nuclear guardians fail…Terrifying.”—Wall Street Journal
There is only one scenario other than an asteroid strike that could end the world as we know it in a matter of hours: nuclear war. And one of the triggers for that war would be a nuclear missile inbound toward the United States.
Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have.
Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s (https://rumble.com/search/all?q=Annie%20Jacobsen) Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario, based on dozens of exclusive new interviews with military and civilian experts who have built the weapons, have been privy to the response plans, and have been responsible for those decisions should they have needed to be made. Nuclear War: A Scenario examines the handful of minutes after a nuclear missile launch. It is essential listening, and unlike any other book in its depth and urgency.

We have to play this suicidal ideology out to its bitter end in order to forever erase it from our reality.
We were removed from the realm of animals with our big brains. Men are born into a tyranny of degree, with no way out and no other options but to pay back the debt they owe for being born or suffer the consequences of the man-made dilemma of poverty (the punishment for non-compliance). We cannot 'go back to nature' because other humans already own all of it. We are squatters on our own lands, unless we play the game (costing about 30000 - 40000 hours of toil paid for in sweat and blood equity to our overlords).
Our technologies and our systems are inferior to the task set them and will never compensate for the avarice, greed, and apathy of the human race.
Our big brains and our small hearts will be our destruction - and we deserve what is coming. In fact, it can be said that we wish for what's coming - without understanding the inevitability of our actions and non-actions. We want this because we will not grow up and act like the big brain animals that we are.
We are divorced from nature not because we have outgrown it, but because we have lost connection to what is truly important - both to human and animal alike.
It is time for a reset. It is time for us to die to the lie so that we can finally be free of this made-up, topsy-turvy world.
We do not live in the world of effects - we die there.
Our world is the world of cause - where we live forever.
Bring it on...

RT: WEST REALLY WANTS EVERYONE TO BELIEVE RUSSIA PLANNING NUCLEAR ATTACK, BUT WHY?
https://forbiddenknowledgetv.net/rt-west-really-wants-everyone-to-believe-russia-planning-nuclear-attack-but-why/

(It would not surprise me if the Chinese Communist Party's anti-US disinfo propaganda campaign is behind this. The world continues to underestimate their extreme psychopathy. )
"Moscow Has Never Said It Is Ready to “Push the Red Button,” the President Has Said
Moscow has never been the first to resort to aggressive nuclear rhetoric, President Vladimir Putin told a question-and-answer panel at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Friday. The nation’s nuclear doctrine only allows the use of atomic weapons in “exceptional cases” and the current situation is not one, he added.
When asked whether Russia should “climb the nuclear escalation ladder faster,” Putin replied that Moscow has never initiated such escalation. Russia “has never said” it was “ready to push the red button,” the president stated, adding that Moscow has always called on other nations to treat such issues “seriously” but was instead accused of nuclear saber-rattling.
“We are not brandishing [nuclear weapons],” Putin said.
Russia’s nuclear doctrine clearly states that atomic weapons can only be used in the face of a “threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity” of the country, the president stated. “I do not believe that it is the case now.”
He warned, however, that changes to the doctrine “are not ruled out.”
The president expressed hope that “it will never come” to a nuclear exchange between Moscow and the West. He said Russia possesses an effective early-warning system and a vast nuclear arsenal, including tactical nuclear weapons, which are three or four times more powerful than the bombs dropped by the US on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The EU lacks both and only the US has comparable capacity, he added.
Moscow “has no reasons to even think about” using nuclear weapons, according to Putin. Russia vastly outguns its enemy when it comes to tanks and aviation, the president said. Ammunition production in Russia has also increased by a multiple of 20 amid the ongoing conflict, he added. Putin then called on Russian officials to not even “touch upon” the subject of nuclear weapons unless absolutely necessary. "

Europa The Last Battle (2017)
Full Film Part 1
From: newsletter@forbiddenknowledgetv.net
https://forbiddenknowledgetv.net/europa-the-last-battle-2017-full-film-part-1/
(This addendum message is from Alexandra Bruce of Forbidden Knowledge, regarding the info in the post #42 just above, which also originated with her.
I was able to hunt down the Rumble link, which is usually easier to find in her articles, so no harm done there, but the following commentary, which was not in the first post, should not be missed.
This probably belongs just as much in the Internet Censorship thread as much as here...)
"A few weeks ago, the backend of my website became corrupted and a new HTML editor was installed that literally does not allow you to see what you're doing (or deleting) half the time. It's like flying blind. It is hellacious.
So, I apologize that this morning's newsletter went out without a video embedded on my site and also with some glaring typos, such as the 'Communist Manifesto' being published in 1948 - one hundred years after the fact!
I'm so busy struggling with the inteface that I can't properly see and edit what I'm writing. This is compounded by my new mass email service that I began using a month ago, whose backend is similarly more like an obstacle course than a streamlined way to get your message out (like Substack).
Again, I apologize for my recent technological struggles. It's such a delicate and important topic and I'm frustrated that this missive got screwed-up, so I'm re-sending with corrections.
###
I have largely steered clear from the topics of Nazis and WWII, because it is nightmare that I prefered to ignore but one that I've come to realize I cannot continue to ignore.
So, I'm getting my feet wet, so to speak by watching this film – and just the first ten minutes of this is like falling off a building!
This 10-part film series, written, directed and produced pseudonymously by Tobias Bratt in Sweden received an IMDb score of 7.4, despite IMDb's withering review and the scathing pronouncements of Wikipedia, calling it a:
"Neo-Nazi propaganda film...that promotes antisemitic conspiracy theories, including Holocaust denial...
"The film promotes various antisemitic conspiracy theories, claiming that Karl Marx was part of a centuries-long plan by Jews to spread communism and take over the world[1][14] and that Jews control the world's money supply[7] and are conspiring to engineer the downfall of the white race by encouraging immigration and interracial relationships.[15]
Due to these kinds of write-ups, I've shunned the 'Europa' series like the plague since its release in 2017 but suddenly, so many people recommended or referred this film to me, that I had to take a look.
This film claims that in 1862, Moses Hess, aka the "Communist Rabbi" formulated the first written principles of communism in the book 'Rome and Jerusalem', in which he laid the foundations for a Jewish nationalist movement called Zionism.
The film claims that Moses Hess was also a close friend and collaborator of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels and that he assisted them in their work with the 'Communist Manifesto' of 1848 and that Moses Hess' grandparents were related to the Rothschild family through marriage and that the Rothschild family partially funded Karl Marx, while he wrote the 'The Communist Manifesto'.
Here is a snippet of the film's transcript:
'The Communist Manifesto' laid out the ideology of communism. Its key points include a central bank with monopoly on credit, abolition of countries and nationalities, abolition of the traditional family consisting of a man, a woman, and children, abolition of private property, which means no rights for the people, to make it impossible for people to earn a livelihood by introducing heavy taxation, confiscation of property, abolition of the right of inheritance, a communist state, a communist monopoly on credit and banking, the media in total control of the communists. Women should not focus on family and children anymore.
In their own words, communism wants to do away with the status of women as mere instrument of production. Abolition of Christianity and Morality. Marx refers to this totalitarian scheme as dictatorship of the proletariat, and his cult followers promote violence, class envy, hostility towards free markets, family, business, tradition in Christianity.
Today they are instrumental in the destabilization of Europe. Marx also openly encouraged genocide against Slavs, referring to them as "racial trash and that they must perish in a revolutionary holocaust."
- Voiceover, 'Europa: The Last Battle - Part 1'
Well, it seems pretty obvious that the Communist Manifesto is playing out across America and the world today, from the Federal Reserve Bank, to the war in Gaza, to the WHO, to Drag Queen Story Hour, to the genocide of the Slavic Ukrainians and Russians.
There's a kind of secret Masonry that some call the Jewish Mafia or Khazarian Mafia but it is by no means strictly Jewish in composition. Rockefellers are Khazarian Mafia, as were JP Morgan, Andrew Carnegie and other non-Jews.
Although I am not Jewish by blood or by faith, I consider myself Jewish-adjacent. I have multiple members of my family intermarried with Jews, myself included (formerly). In short, I love Jews, so the revelations of this film are highly disturbing to me
Obviously, not all Jews are members of the Khazarian Mafia, the same way that not all WASPs are Freemasons and not all Italians are in La Cosa Nostra.
Therefore, please do not misinterpret this post and call me an anti-Semite, because it's the opposite of what's true and it is the opposite of the intent, which is to try to make sense of what's happening today.
Let's start with the usage of the term "Semitic", which is Satanic, on many levels – and thankfully, in disuse. I need to study who coined this usage. A quick look at Britannica says a "German agitator" named Wilhelm Marr coined the term in 1879.
"Semitic" is not a racial designation. The word, "Semitic" refers to a linguistic group, of which Arabic is by far the most widely-spoken language and the third most widespread official language, after English and French.
The usage of the word "Semitic", when compounded with the prefix "anti" to exclusively signify "Jewish" ignores the 422 million Arabic speakers compared to 10 million Hebrew speakers, worldwide. Therefore, the term "anti-Semitic" is an antiquated, misleading term, in need of an update.
The World War II usages of "Aryan" and "Hebrew" are similarly completely bogus, incorrect designations that intentionally twist their original meanings.
The original significance of the word, "Aryan" is manifold, including the self-designation of Iranians. Its meaning is at the heart of the most widely-spoken linguistic family in the world.
Archaeological, genomic and historic evidence show that the linguistic homeland of the proto-Indo-European language was in modern-day Ukraine and Southern Russia, where, it just so happens, US Taxpayer bombs are now dropping (against the will of the American people, it should be noted).
During the Bronze Age (ca. 5000-3500 BC), the proto-Indo-Europeans of the Pontic Steppe were skilled horsemen and they rapidly spread out from their homeland, East and West, mixing with the locals and giving rise to Greek, Latin, the Romance-, Germanic-, Slavic- and Indo-Aryan languages, among others.
In a linguistic sense, most Europeans, Persians, Pakistanis and Northern Indians (plus Albanians, Armenians, Kurds and others) are the offspring of these Bronze Age Indo-Europeans who originally hailed from what is now Ukraine.
However, one thing "Aryan" does not mean is "Nordic" and it never did, that is, until World War II, when this new usage was coined by somebody, deliberately shifting the term "Aryan" to designate "Nordic". I wonder who that Nazi somebody was?
As for "Hebrew", this term designates a language, not a people. It would be like calling Puerto Ricans "Spanish". "Semitic" is a linguistic family, "Hebrew" is a language within the Semitic linguistic family. That is what these two words actually mean. The ancient people who spoke Hebrew were the Israelites.
While I believe that the creators of this film sought to be truthful, in my opinion, they're overly obsessed with the Jewish component of this anti-human conspiracy and they've failed to grasp the Black Nobility aspect, which I believe is dictating much or all of it (without getting into the Lower Astral, interdimensional, demonic aspects of this saga – we'll leave that to Kerry Cassidy for now!)
I don't like the tone of this presentation but the facts are accurate and it's pretty gob-smacking to watch this film today, as we witness the controlled demolition of our civilization, in favor of the World Economic Forum's transhuman, "You Will Own Nothing and You Will Eat Ze Bugs", exploding electric cars, 6G LoWPAN genocide model, all of it essentially scripted 176 years ago in 'The Communist Manifesto'."

Bruce posted the link again for "Europa the Last Battle" at the end of this message, but it's in the post just above so I will not post it here.
This whole discussion makes me think of the passage in the Book of Revelations: "Message to the Church in Philadelphia" which seems to apply quite well to the Khazarians.
From:https://biblehub.com/kjv/revelation/3.htm
"7And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth;
8I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name. 9Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee. 10Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth. 11Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown. 12Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. 13He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches."

I agree with Onawah about the tone, and yes, the facts are accurate.
Imagine, from this perspective, how some people must feel now that both Russia and Israel are at war.
I can only say what I believe:
You cannot hold fear and love in your mind at the same time.
I choose love.
I cannot rewrite the biological imperative to fear my demise or anyone else's, but I do not have to entertain the notion of the finality of death.
Until Thanatos comes for me, I've no time for fear.
I hope in that final moment I have the presence of mind to laugh in death's face while I salute and declare:
"See ya next time around, chump!"

'War'.....the incessant chatter and media saturation of 'war' is usually the very last resort of those of the cabal who know that their grip on control is fading fast and desperately need to distract the populace with the threat of The Big One. Putin sees this for what it is - the West hurling all it's toys out of its crib.
Yes, choose Love over fear. That is our biggest weapon against the insanity being played out.

Over an hour in now, and I do HIGHLY recommend this. :highfive:
I watched: "The Day After" Movie (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_After) at school in 1984 when I was 18 years old, I remember it had a huge impact on me and my other classmates:

This one is a classic 80s nuclear war flick reflecting the collective consciousness of the time, which I never watched...until today.
What's interesting about this film, today, is that it seems the public is much more dumbed down to the horrific reality of a nuclear conflict (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LboKlvhxdqE) today, unlike how we all beheld the horror of the psychopaths who had us on the verge of nuclear holocaust in the 80s when this film was made.
Let's consider the statement in the credits of this film:
...The catastrophic events you have just witnessed are, in all likelihood, less severe than the destruction that would actually occur in the event of a full nuclear strike against the United States. It is hoped that the images of this film will inspire the nations of this earth, their peoples and leaders, to find the means to avert this fateful day...
The problem is--which I feel all of us who understand the nature of what we are facing here on planet Earth--is the Powers That Be, who have the means, ability, and power to trigger such a global catastrophe, are not inspired "to avert this fateful day..." They are inspired to make it happen. That's the truth most of us do not want to believe, nor grasp when tackling the solutions to avert this from happening.

Bumping this thread with a striking conversation just published on The Duran between Glenn Diesen, Alexander Mercouris and Theodore Postol.
This is Postol's Wiki page, and it's well worth reading:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_Postol
I say 'conversation', but the entire first hour is an earnest, impassioned, data-rich, one-person presentation by Postol, whose depth of technical understanding of the current dangers of nuclear escalation is such that Annie Jacobson would just sit silently and take notes.
Postol speaks as if he's just been given his one and only chance to say something important, hoping upon hope that someone in the US administration might just possibly hear it. "I'm so concerned, I'm beside myself", he says.

We're in a very frightening scenario where the people in charge are not only psychopathic but woefully ignorant of basic knowledge and intelligence as well. A little off topic maybe but the same scenario situation is apparent in every field atm, and I would hazard a guess that Diversity-Based Hiring has an awful lot to do with it.

Much as I value the work of Alexander Mercouris and the others on this video; I wonder at what point he and they will realize that this kind of geopolitical policy decision is neither driven by ignorance nor by insanity - but is one of many deliberate and strategic attempts designed to produce exactly the nightmare nuclear war scenario, that the policy (very probably) would produce, if implemented?

I just watched the video all the way through, and even though none of it was surprising it was still shocking, because we’re unable to remove these incompetent and ignorant people who are playing chicken with everybody on this planet's lives. I was reminded of the daily Covid updates on TV when The Three Stooges (aka, Boris Johnson, Patrick Vallance and Chris Whitty) would spout “Trust the Science” at us, which phrase will remain forever blighted. And the Nuclear Issue is clearly headed the same way.
According to Wiki, The Rt Honourable John Healey, UK’s current Minister of Defence, has held various ministerial positions in Housing, the Treasury and Health. Like other Ministers he’s merely a spokesperson, who’s spoon-fed speeches by a team of Civil Servants. Taking The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy as an example, if you traced the paper trail back to source, you’d likely find a hapless year-out student in the library/archives office, complete with earphones and a spliff, who’s under the impression that the War in Ukraine is a remake of “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)”. It’s not really funny at all. I bought a book at the weekend called “How Westminster Works. . . and Why it Doesn’t” by Ian Dunt, and it’s bloody irritating because nothing works properly and nobody cares.

Raven Rock: The Story of the U.S. Government s Secret Plan to Save Itself - While the Rest of Us Die

Link: AbeBooks (https://www.abebooks.co.uk/9781476735405/Raven-Rock-Story-U.S-Government-1476735409/plp)
Overview:
The eye-opening true story of the government's secret plans to survive and rebuild after a catastrophic attack on US soil--a narrative that spans from the dawn of the nuclear age to today.
Every day in Washington, DC, the blue-and-gold 1st Helicopter Squadron, code-named "MUSSEL," flies over the Potomac River. As obvious as the presidential motorcade, the squadron is assumed by most people to be a travel perk for VIPs.
They're only half right: while the helicopters do provide transport, the unit exists to evacuate high-ranking officials in the event of a terrorist or nuclear attack on the capital. In the event of an attack, select officials would be whisked by helicopters to a ring of secret bunkers around Washington, even as ordinary citizens are left to fend for themselves. For sixty years, the US government has been developing secret Doomsday plans to protect itself, and the multibillion-dollar Continuity of Government (COG) program takes numerous forms--from its plans to evacuate the Liberty Bell from Philadelphia and our most precious documents from the National Archives to the plans to launch nuclear missiles from a Boeing 747 jet flying high over Nebraska.
In Raven Rock, Garrett Graff sheds light on the inner workings of the 650-acre compound (called Raven Rock) just miles from Camp David, as well as dozens of other bunkers the government built its top leaders during the Cold War, from the White House lawn to Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado to Palm Beach, Florida, and the secret plans that would have kicked in after a Cold War nuclear attack to round up foreigners and dissidents, and nationalize industries.
Equal parts a presidential, military, and political history, Raven Rock tracks the evolution of the government's plans and the threats of global war from the dawn of the nuclear era through the present day.
Relying upon thousands of pages of once-classified documents, as well as original interviews and visits to former and current COG facilities, Graff brings readers through the back channels of government to understand exactly what is at stake if our nation is attacked, and how we're prepared to respond if it is.

Washington pushes China into Russia’s arms, pushes Iran into Russia’s arms October 02.2024
All discussion in the Washington foreign policy establishment on how the Ukrainian war has pushed Russia into China’s arms and made it a ‘junior partner’ is utter nonsense. My contention is that a hubristic U.S. foreign policy that pays no attention to what adversaries are saying because that is ‘disinformation’ has pushed China into Russia’s arms.
This took time to achieve: two years plus of the Special Military Operation, to be precise. And this is not due just to blunders of the incompetents manning the top posts in the National Security Council and the State Department. No, the bipartisan majority in Congress has also enabled the incoming disaster for U.S. global standing by its full-voiced approval of punitive sanctions on Chinese goods and approval of what constitute kinetic war plans against Beijing as well as the formation of a military alliance directed against China in its neighborhood.
The handwriting is on the wall. Beijing must support the new robust nuclear doctrine of Russia to ensure its neighbor’s victory over the U.S.-led coalition supporting Ukraine.
By the same token, unqualified U.S. support, including active participation in Israel’s latest atrocities in Lebanon that resulted in the death of Hezbollah’s high command has pushed Iran into Russia’s arms. The liberal-minded new president of Iran has reversed his recently declared readiness for dialogue with the signatories of the now suspended Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on nuclear arms. We saw the proof of that yesterday when Iran moved from wait-and-see mode into retaliatory mode for the humiliations Israel has inflicted on the Axis of Resistance. One hundred eighty ballistic missiles were fired at Israeli military targets and it would appear that they got through both the Iron Dome and air defenses provided by the U.S. fleet and by French anti-aircraft systems.
I contend that Iran’s missile attack on Israel was approved in advance by Moscow when Vladimir Putin sent his envoy to Teheran a few days earlier. It is unthinkable that Iran would challenge Netanyahu so directly without the certainty that Russian air defense systems give it the best protection known on this planet.
After serving as a reliable if unacknowledged guarantor of the state of Israel for decades, Russia has clearly changed sides.
There are also other important conclusions that we can draw from the above observations.
One of these relates to the open discussion I am having with John Helmer over Vladimir Putin’s commitment to defend Russia’s national interests. Does he or does he not have backbone? I insist that Russia’s backing for Iran, which surely made yesterday’s attack possible, is proof positive that the Russian president is ready for a fight with Washington that he previously avoided at all costs. It is inevitable that Russia’s support for Iran will bring it into direct confrontation with Washington.
Who will blink first? Given the vulnerability of all U.S. assets in the West Asian region starting with the aircraft carrier task force, I believe that Washington will blink first.

Sharing this here, the new Netflix drama A House of Dynamite, premiered a couple of weeks ago. It's really quite good.
No spoilers here! Just a few comments:
1) It's well worth watching. The focus is on the exceptionally well-portrayed and very human reactions, and all the dilemmas and personal problems faced when a sudden nuclear crisis comes right out of nowhere. One Rotten Tomatoes critic wrote, I think very accurately:
The acting is first-rate in this movie. The actors do a marvelous job of showing how people might behave in a situation where there is not enough time, or enough information available to make a good decision, and all the options are bad ones.
2) There are no current world leaders named or featured.
3) The uncertainties and ambiguities that the movie portrays are all very purposely scripted.
4) The director (Kathryn Bigelow) and writer (Noah Oppenheim) started working on the film while Biden was still president. They were motivated by the apparent lack of interest and concern about issues of nuclear war or attack among most young American people, and the absence of recent realistic and thought-provoking nuclear-themed films, which were frequently made and shown during the Cold War.
5) The Rotten Tomatoes (https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/a_house_of_dynamite) critics' rating is 79%. The consensus stated:
Playing out a nightmare scenario with nerve-wracking plausibility, Kathryn Bigelow's masterfully-constructed A House of Dynamite is an urgent thriller that's as distressing as it is riveting.
6) The same story is told three different times, in sequence, from three different points of view: a White House situation room, a military command center, and finally the President and his entourage.

The names Noah & Oppenheim are interesting considering Robert Oppenheimer was the father of the atomic bomb. Idris Elba plays POTUS in A House of Dynamite (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt32376165/) and his last name anagrams to Baal. There was a prophet Idris (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idris_(prophet)) mentioned in the Quran. The president of the WEF (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?117708-Klaus-Schwab&p=1614620&viewfull=1#post1614620) Børge Brende name translates to Baal Burn. Cliff Simon (https://people.com/tv/stargate-sg-1-cliff-simon-dies-kiteboarding-accident/) who played Baal in Stargate SG-1 died in a kiteboarding accident on Topanga Beach.

Yes, J. Robert Oppenheimer was the scientific director of the Los Alamos Laboratory and is widely known as the "father of the atomic bomb" for leading the team that designed and built the first atomic bombs during the Manhattan Project. While he was the lead scientist, the creation of the bomb was a massive effort by a large team of scientists and engineers.

The name Oppenheim is a habitational surname derived from the town of Oppenheim in Germany, meaning "open home" or "open settlement". It originates from the German words oppen (open) and heim (homestead, home, or settlement). The name is common among both Germans and Ashkenazi Jews, as many Jewish families took their surname from the town where they lived.
Production of the TV movie The Day After (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_After) started in August and September of 1982 and was aired on ABC on 11/20/83.
The dates suggest the movie was conjured as a fear porn tactic to ensure funding. Ed Dames who was known as Dr. Doom played the same role. Rumors state SDI was to fund space craft. Since Reagan had to take Bush senior as his running mate it's a tossup whether the money went to the USN controlled SSP or the Nazi's Dark Fleet which translating to Nacht Waffen.
The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_Defense_Initiative)) was authorized by President Ronald Reagan when he announced the program on March 23, 1983. The program was later officially established with the creation of the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO) in 1984, according to Wikipedia.

The Day After was watched by 100 million people when it originally aired. The population of the United States in 1983 was 236 (https://www.populationpyramid.net/united-states-of-america/1983/) million. Jason Robards looking into his rearview mirror and seeing a nuke go off is the dominate memory I have of that movie, but I can't locate it. There's talk on the Internet of other people remembering things that aren't in the version they've currently watched. It could be blamed on editing, which was originally three hours long, Mandela effect, AI tinkering or parallel universe.

When I was in junior high art class one of the male students walked over to me and showed me a drawing he did. It was a reproduction of the scene out of the 1983 TV movie The Day After (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0085404/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1) where Jason Robards (https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001673/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_3) looked in his rearview mirror and saw a mushroom cloud. I didn’t really know the guy and something external must have made him imbue it into my line-of-sight. I couldn’t find that image on Google or YT.
wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_After)
The Day After is an American post-apocalyptic television film that first aired on November 20, 1983, on the ABC television network. More than 100 million people, in nearly 39 million households, watched the program during its initial broadcast. With a 46 rating and a 62% share of the viewing audience during its initial broadcast, it was the seventh-highest-rated non-sports show up to that time and set a record as the highest-rated television film in history—a record it held as of 2009.
The film postulates a fictional war between NATO forces and the Warsaw Pact countries over Germany that rapidly escalates into a full-scale nuclear exchange between the United States and the Soviet Union. The action itself focuses on the residents of Lawrence, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, and of several family farms near nuclear missile silos.[4]

Yes, many scenes were cut from the original 1983 TV movie The Day After, primarily for being considered too disturbing by the network or for political reasons. Some of the original, more graphic scenes involving burn victims and radiation sickness were removed for the broadcast, though some were restored in later home video versions. A rough cut of the film that appeared online confirms the existence of even more scenes that were never officially released.
Scenes cut from the original broadcast
More graphic violence: Scenes depicting burn victims and radiation sickness were initially trimmed or altered to be less intense.
Political cuts: A scene showing the U.S. Army shooting scavengers was removed for political reasons.
Other "disturbing" scenes: A scene showing a hospital patient abruptly sitting up screaming was removed from the broadcast but was restored for home video releases.
Controversial details: A scene involving a character obtaining a diaphragm was also cut from the original broadcast.
A football scene: A scene showing Dr. Russell Oakes' son playing football was filmed but ultimately cut.
What exists in other versions
Rough cut: A "rough cut" of the film, which is a workprint, has appeared online and includes many new or alternate shots, as well as extended scenes that did not make the final version.
Extended/restored scenes: Some scenes, like the hospital patient screaming, have been restored in home video releases that are different from the original TV broadcast.
Director's cut: An early laserdisc version was advertised as a director's cut and included a commentary track.
General information about cut scenes
The original version was longer, and a three-hour version was significantly trimmed down to create the final theatrical and home video releases.
The cuts were made due to a combination of network pressure (ABC), which was concerned about viewer reaction and considered some scenes too disturbing, especially for a younger audience, and political sensitivity.
The filmmakers and the network acknowledged that the film deliberately downplayed the true effects of nuclear war to make it a more manageable story.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erGDWkQzV5sI've watched them all. In my very strong opinion, shared by almost every other critic and viewer, Threads is by far the most harrowing and traumatic of them all. One critic wrote that it makes The Day After seem like a Sunday School picnic in comparison.
If anyone hasn't seen this and still chooses to, it genuinely deserves a warning. There are some scenes in there which you may never be able to wipe from your mind. I'm not joking or exaggerating.
I saw it once all the way through on live TV in 1983, and to this day I remember involuntarily exclaiming out loud in horror from the comfort of my sofa — the one and only time in my whole life I've ever done that. I re-watched the first quarter or third several times since then (but no further!), and I absolutely never intend to see it again.
It's here in the Avalon Library. (https://avalonlibrary.net/THREADS.mp4) :flower:
NOT mentioned in the short video review above is Special Bulletin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Bulletin), which is superb. It's the only one of all these films which I'd be happy to watch many times over. It depicts the fictional live news coverage of a developing domestic nuclear event, which was SO very well done, well acted and realistic that despite the regular messages displayed on screen when it was shown on live TV in 1983, tens of thousands of highly alarmed viewers believed it was real.
Here it is, and I can't recommend this too highly:
Special Bulletin (1983) [HD and enhanced]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wn7WC3zsEZk
Edit to add:
I've just watched it again, I think the fourth (or maybe the fifth!) time in all these years. It's VERY VERY good. The realism is extraordinary. Roxanne Hart, who played reporter Meg Barclay on camera live from Charleston harbor, deserved an Emmy for her acting. No kidding. :flower:
It all escalates slowly, but the denouement starts half an hour before the end. For those short of time or simply curious to check out what I've been sharing, you could start in pretty much at exactly 1:10:00 when news finally breaks that the situation has been resolved. Watch to the very end.

Back to A House of Dynamite, this has stimulated a whole bunch of video reviews and discussions with experts, easily found. Most of them are really very interesting to listen to.
Most everyone has
confirmed that the way the formal chain-of-command processes and protocols work (often with unforeseen problems!) is very realistically depicted;
agreed that so much can easily go wrong, even in an accumulation of small ways, when everyone is taken by surprise; and
stressed the REALLY REALLY worrying fact that while military command posts practice this kind of thing dozens or not hundreds of times a year, the US President (who has sole decision-making authority) never practices this at all and is only superficially briefed about the whole process for a few minutes when he first assumes office.
Below are just 3 of the discussions which some may find interesting to listen to. (There are dozens more!)

Threads is harrowing I think because it does not seek to sensationalize the technical aspects, it shows very ordinary folks (yes, Normies) coping with 'then' daily life, planning a wedding, elderly parents, next door neighbors heading to the country to escape nuclear explosions, people reading how to prevent 'fall out' entering their modest houses with plastic sheeting & how to bury people in the garden if they pass away during the emergency - local officials preparing in town hall basements...very mundane & plausible! Then of course the major exchange takes place & cities are incinerated with the high wind that would inevitably follow. All very stark, ordinary & terrifying, as they say 'the living shall envy the dead', only watch if you feel very grounded & non mentally threatened, just a friendly caution, Bill is absolutely right about "Threads" - it is a bit dated culturally, but still harrowing.
