The worldwide bird flu outbreak that began in 2020 has led to the deaths of millions of domesticated birds and spread to wildlife all over the globe. This virus isn’t thought to be a major threat to humans, but its spread in farming operations and wild ecosystems has caused widespread economic turmoil and environmental disruptions.

Seals and sea lions, in places as far apart as Maine and Chile, appear to be especially vulnerable to the disease, scientists said. The virus has been detected in seals on the east and west coasts of the U.S., leading to deaths of more than 300 seals in New England and a handful more in Puget Sound in Washington. The situation is even more dire in South America, where more than 20,000 sea lions have died in Chile and Peru and thousands of elephant seals have died in Argentina.

The virus can be controlled in domesticated animals, but it can spread unchecked in wildlife and marine mammals such as South America’s seals that lacked prior exposure to it have suffered devastating consequences, said Marcela Uhart, director of the Latin America program at the Karen C. April 4 (Reuters) - Has bird flu already killed hundreds, if not thousands of penguins in Antarctica?

That's what researchers are seeking to find out after a scientific expedition last month found at least 532 dead Adelie penguins, with thousands more thought to have died, according to a statement from Federation University Australia.

While the researchers suspect the deadly H5N1 bird flu virus killed the penguins, the field tests were inconclusive, the university said. Samples are being shipped off to labs that the researchers hope will provide answers in coming months.

Scientists are concerned specifically that the often fatal H5N1 influenza could decimate threatened species of penguins and other animals on the remote southern continent.

The disease has spread more aggressively in wildlife than ever before since arriving in South America in 2022 and rapidly made its way to Antarctica, where the first case of H5N1 was confirmed in February.

"This has the potential to have a massive impact on wildlife that is already being impacted by things like climate change and other environmental stresses," said Meagan Dewar, a wildlife biologist with Federation University, who participated in the latest expedition.

Dewar told Reuters that the dead Adelie penguins were found frozen solid in the sub-zero temperatures and covered in snow on Heroina Island.

Dewar and the small team of researchers were not able to tally all of the carcasses on the large island, estimating that several thousand died in total at some time in the proceeding weeks or months.

A colony of roughly 280,000 Adelies breed on Heroina Island each year. Having finished breeding, the live penguins had already moved on by the time the expedition arrived, Dewar said.

On Friday, the CDC officials issued a cautionary message, urging state officials to ensure they have current operational strategies in case more individuals working on farms are diagnosed with H5N1, Dailymail reported.

During the meeting, they highlighted that the risk to the general public remained relatively low. However, they stressed the importance of health authorities being prepared for the possibility of more cases emerging.

Outbreaks of bird flu among dairy cows in several states, coupled with at least one case detected in a farmworker in Texas, have sparked concerns that the virus could pose the next infectious threat to humans.

Understanding H5N1 transmission and clarifying risks and precautions from federal officials

The H5N1 influenza virus is highly pathogenic, indicating its capacity to cause severe illness and fatalities, as reported by the NY Times. However, federal officials clarified that although its transmission among cows was unforeseen, humans can only contract the virus through close contact with infected animals, not from each other.

“It’s really about folks who are in environments where they may be interacting with cattle that are infected with this virus,” said Dr. Demetre Daskalakis, the director of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“The risk for most everyone else is very low,” he added. “Right now, our risk assessment hasn’t changed, but if it does change, we’re going be pretty quick and pretty transparent about that.”

For years, the CDC and other agencies in the United States and around the world have closely monitored the evolution of H5N1. Federal entities have accumulated vaccines and medications in preparation for a potential bird flu outbreak.

My knowledge is limited but I think we are all mostly aware that "optimized" Vit D levels are foundational and there are several means/ways to go about safely and rapidly dosing up ( With K2 Mk4 & Mk7) I believe it is called a " D " Hammer" from there the gut microbiome is upwards of 80% of our active immune system. Am not clear how best to go about bolstering that.

Many deficiencies can seriously "weaken" us. Selenium comes to mind especially for HIV like illnesses...and of course " Horse Paste"...and Mega dosing of Vit C. Sadly I'm not qualified to put it all together...when/why to take Iodine for eg or specific tinctures or extracts, concoctions.

Good list of reminders there but I heard someone, it may have been Lee Merritt but I listen to so much stuff, theorise that the vitamin C could get used by the nano tech for it's own purposes by converting it to something else.

Dr Ardis proposed Ivermectin achieved it's results by the same method nicotine achieves the same result, by occupying the same receptors that whatever substance the covid and injection substance was targeting and probably not by acting as a parasite killer.

The systematic effort to remove nicotine access and Ivermectin access is plain to see. we don't see such effort to remove access to, e.g. Vitamin C.

With there so obviously being such huge missing chunks of the puzzle we have to keep our minds and thinking wide open and ready to spin around and see things totally differently at a moment's notice. New measures to help protect poultry industry from bird flu

Under the changes announced there will be new requirements for all bird keepers - regardless of the size of their flock - to officially register their birds. Currently only those who keep 50 or more poultry must do so, limiting the effectiveness of our national disease control measures.

In England and Wales keepers are encouraged to register their birds ahead of the legal deadline on 1 October 2024.

In Scotland, keepers should register from 1 September 2024 when there will be a new Scottish Kept Bird Register in place.

New research raises concerns over Zombie Deer Disease transmission to humans

Scientists have been saying for a while that this sickness, called chronic wasting disease (CWD), is very deadly and can make deer act strangely, like being confused, drooling, and not scared of people. They’ve warned that it could spread from animals to humans. Now, a recent study suggests that it might have happened already, with two hunters dying in 2022 after eating meat from infected deer.

A 72-year-old man experienced sudden confusion, aggression, and seizures before his health rapidly declined, leading to his death within a month. Doctors later determined that he had Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease (CJD), a brain disorder similar to Mad Cow Disease. Another person, a friend of the hunter, also died from CJD. But there aren’t many details available about their condition in the recent research published in the journal Neurology.

The researchers involved in the study are from Texas, but specific information about where the deaths occurred hasn’t been disclosed. DailyMail.com has reached out to the researchers for further comment.

Researchers suspect that because both hunters had a history of consuming meat from the same infected herd, they might have contracted CWD themselves. “Although causation remains unproven, this cluster emphasizes the need for further investigation into the potential risks of consuming CWD-infected deer and its implications for public health,” the authors wrote.

Understanding the spread and impact of Chronic Wasting Disease

CJD is caused by misshapen proteins called prions, which don’t fold correctly. Once infected, these abnormal prions spread throughout the central nervous system, leaving deposits in the brain and other organs. There are currently no treatments or vaccines available for CWD, and the illness is fatal in all cases.

While the exact way the disease spreads isn’t entirely understood, it’s believed that it passes from one animal to another through contaminated forage or water, often tainted by infected feces. Direct contact, including exposure to saliva, blood, urine, and even antler velvet during shedding season, may also contribute to transmitting the pathogen.

On farms, any deer that dies must be tested for CWD to prevent further spread. Since the disease is highly contagious, if one animal tests positive, the entire herd is considered infected.

The H5N1 bird flu virus strain has been detected in very high concentrations in raw milk from infected animals, the WHO said Friday, though how long the virus can survive in milk is unknown.

Avian influenza A(H5N1) first emerged in 1996 but since 2020, the number of outbreaks in birds has grown exponentially, alongside an increase in the number of infected mammals.

The strain has led to the deaths of tens of millions of poultry, with wild birds and land and marine mammals also infected.

Cows and goats joined the list last month — a surprising development for experts because they were not thought to be susceptible to this type of influenza.

US authorities earlier this month said a person working on a dairy farm in Texas was recovering from bird flu after being exposed to cattle.

“The case in Texas is the first case of a human infected by avian influenza by a cow,” said Wenqing Zhang, head of the global influenza programme at the World Health Organization.

“Bird-to-cow, cow-to-cow and cow-to-bird transmission have also been registered during these current outbreaks, which suggest that the virus may have found other routes of transition than we previously understood,” she told a media briefing in Geneva.

It was only the second case of a human testing positive for bird flu in the United States, and came after the virus sickened herds that were apparently exposed to wild birds.

“Now we see multiple herds of cows affected in an increasing number of US states, which shows a further step of the virus spillover to mammals,” Zhang said.

“The virus has also been detected in milk from infected animals.”

Zhang said there was a “very high virus concentration in raw milk”, but experts were still investigating exactly how long the virus is able to survive in milk.

The Texas health department has said the cattle infections do not present a concern for the commercial milk supply, as dairies are required to destroy milk from sick cows. Pasteurisation also kills the virus.

“It is important for people to ensure safe food practices, including consuming only pasteurised milk and milk products,” said Zhang.

From 2003 to April 1 this year, the WHO said it had recorded 463 deaths from 889 human cases across 23 countries, putting the case fatality rate at 52 percent.

Zhang noted that the human cases recorded in Europe and the United States in the past few years — since the virus surged — have been mild cases.

So far, there is no evidence that A(H5N1) is spreading between humans.

And Zhang stressed that the A(H5N1) viruses identified in cows and in the human case in Texas showed no increased adaptation to mammals.

As for potential vaccines, if required, Zhang said there were some in the pipeline.

“Having candidate vaccine viruses ready allows us to be prepared to quickly produce vaccines for humans, if this becomes necessary,” she said.

“For this particular H5N1 virus detected in dairy cows, there are a couple of candidate vaccine viruses available.”

In the case of a pandemic, there are close to 20 influenza vaccines licensed for pandemic use and they could be tailored with the specific virus strain in circulation, she said.

Deerfield, IL-based Baxter International has confirmed that vaccine shipments sent to subcontractors in Czech Republic, Slovenia and Germany were contaminated with live H5N1 avian flu viruses. The contaminated product, which Baxter calls "experimental virus material," was a mix of H3N2 seasonal flu viruses and H5N1 viruses produced at the company's research facility in Orth-Donau. The problem was discovered when ferrets inoculated with the experimental mix died. Baxter was notified on February 6, but has kept quiet about the details surrounding the mix-up, the Canadian Press reports.

"At this juncture we are confident in saying that public health and occupational risk is minimal at present," medical officer Roberta Andraghetti said. "But what remains unanswered are the circumstances surrounding the incident in the Baxter facility in Orth-Donau."

According to the Sun, Christopher Bona, said in an email that the release of the product was a result of a combination of "just the process itself, (and) technical and human error in this procedure" and the company has taken steps to make sure it doesn't happen again. The Canadian Press reports that Bona has said that the contaminated product was not a vaccine and was developed for testing in animals only. Austrian authorities have audited operations at the facility and are satisfied with the corrective actions taken. Baxter has also worked with the subcontractors to help them destroy the contaminated products and clean up their facilities. Staff exposed to the products were offered Tamiflu and assessed by infectious disease doctors, the company tells the Canadian Press.

While H5N1 doesn't easily infect humans, the H3N2 vaccine can. As the Sun points out, someone infected with both strains could serve as an incubator for reassortment, producing a hybrid virus able to transmit easily among people. But according to Andraghetti, there is no evidence reassortment occurred. "And we have no evidence of any increased transmissibility of the viruses that were involved in the experiment with the ferrets in the Czech Republic," she added.

Thankfully, the man had "very mild" symptoms after contracting HSN1 virus, but the stark image shows how the virus caused bleeding on the surface of his eyeballs. This is because the blood vessels in his eyes popped.

Experts at the CDC say that they think he caught the virus from an infected cow in March. In an official case report, published on Friday, the CDC said that they found "strong evidence" through genetic data that pointed them to this conclusion.

This revelation shows the first sign of HSN1 virus spreading from mammals to humans. The World Health Organisation said that this is a "milestone" that is of "enormous concern." The images of the patient, plus further details about his case, were published in a report in the New England Journal of Medicine.

According to the medical experts, the patient had a subconjunctival haemorrhage, or bleeding just beneath the conjunctiva, or clear surface covering the white part of the eye. He also had a watery liquid discharged from his right eye. The dairy farmer is now the second person to be diagnosed with bird flu in the USA, and perhaps the first to have caught it from a mammal - in this case, a cow.

So far, nearly 900 people in 23 countries have been infected with the H5N1 strain of avian flu over the last 20 years. However, they were all linked to wild or kept birds.

The dairy farmer's case comes as experts warn that they are hearing of other farmers falling ill, but not getting tested for HSN1 virus. The Texas patient came to doctors with the infection in late March, with scientists saying his vital signs — such as breathing — were normal. He also had no signs of fever, changes in breathing or vision during the infection.

After being treated with anti-virals, the patient reported no symptoms except for some "discomfort in both eyes." The report added: "Over the subsequent days, the worker reported resolution of conjunctivitis without respiratory symptoms and household contacts remained well."

CDC Director Dr Mandy Cohen said that the patient's condition was "very mild." She told NPR : "The person had very mild symptoms. They're recovering well. But we want to make sure, again, that we are testing folks who may have been in contact."

Yeah they were involved with it and many other "viruses" also the vaccine (Moderna version) was being used in the US at a military base in 2014. Dr. Robert Redfield, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has issued a grim warning about the dangers of gain-of-function research, predicting that scientists tinkering with making the bird flu virus more infectious is what will trigger the next “great pandemic.”

Dr. Redfield, who in the past railed against the use of U.S. tax dollars to fund gain-of-function research at the Chinese virus lab at the heart of the COVID-19 origin controversy, is once again sounding the alarm on the dangers of risky scientific experiments going badly awry.
In a recent interview on NewsNation, Dr. Redfield recalled a recent op-ed he wrote in The Wall Street Journal calling for a moratorium on gain-of-function research, which involves altering the properties of a pathogen, such as its virulence, in order to study its potential impact on human health.

Proponents of such research argue it can help scientists better learn how the virus behaves and spreads, and so come up with counter-measures more effectively. Opponents say the potential benefits are outweighed by the risks such research poses as it makes viruses more lethal.

“I don’t think that research should be done,” Dr. Redfield told NewsNation. “That’s the real threat. That’s the real biosecurity threat, that these university labs are doing these bio-experiments that are intentionally modifying viruses—and I think bird flu I think is going to be the cause of a great pandemic—where they are teaching these viruses how to be more infectious for humans.”

Dr. Redfield’s remarks come amid a multi-state outbreak of the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1 virus, commonly known as the bird flu, in dairy cows. The virus has been detected in 42 dairy cattle herds across nine states as of May 13, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). Only one case of human infection with the virus has been reported.

Bird Flu Gain-of-Function Research?

While Dr. Redfield said that there’s a “pretty heavy” species barrier (consisting of a five-amino-acid change) for the virus to overcome through natural mutations to become infectious to humans, he said that barrier could easily be erased by human meddling.

“In the laboratory, I could make it highly infectious for humans in months,” he said, while urging his colleagues in the scientific community not to tempt fate and to reject gain-of-function research on the bird flu virus.

Dr. Redfield’s warning comes just weeks after cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough’s colleagues alleged in a post on the Courageous Discourse blog that the USDA has been collaborating with the Chinese Academy of Sciences since 2021 on research that includes “serial passage” of the bird flu virus through mallard ducks.

“Serial passage is considered gain-of-function research as it mimics a natural zoonotic jump in an accelerated fashion, leading to enhanced transmissibility among different species,” wrote John Leake and Nicolas Hulscher. “This method has a history of artificially introducing novel pathogens into the wild.”

The Threat of Biowarfare: Chinese Labs and Weaponized Migration

Mr. Leake and Mr. Hulscher said that the bulk of the USDA’s research on avian flu viruses is being conducted at the U.S. National Poultry Research Center, Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) facility in Athens, Georgia.

One ongoing research project on the bird flu virus that involves collaboration between the USDA and the Chinese Academy of Sciences entails the carrying out “in vivo challenge work” at the SEPRL facility, which involves the introduction of the bird flu virus into a living organism—typically animal—to observe its behavior, immune responses triggered by the virus, and replication dynamics and pathogenicity.

Mr. Leake and Mr. Hulscher alleged that several months after the start of “this gain-of-function attempt” in 2021, a new H5N1 virus (clade 2.3.4.4b) appeared in wild birds in the United States, leading to the current outbreaks.
While a number of researchers propose that the current H5N1 viruses were brought to North America by wild migratory birds from Asia, Mr. Leake and Mr. Hulscher said this is “questionable” and urge investigation into whether there may have been a leak at the SEPRL facility.

“Urgent investigation is required to ensure there were no lab leaks at the SEPRL facility in Athens, Georgia, or any other facility that could lead to the escape of lab-modified strains of H5N1 bird flu,” they wrote.

The Epoch Times has reached out to the USDA with a request for comment on Dr. Redfield’s warning, on the claims made in the Courageous Discourse article, and on whether the USDA considers the SEPRL studies on bird flu viruses gain-of-function research.

Gain-Of-Function and COVID-19

The question of whether U.S. tax dollars were used to fund gain-of-function research in China on coronaviruses has been in the spotlight for some time and remains steeped in controversy, in part because the definition of what exactly constitutes such research is a matter of some debate.
Dr. Redfield has insisted that taxpayers ended up unknowingly funding risky gain-of-function research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), the Chinese lab at the center of the lab-leak origin theory of the virus that caused COVID-19.

He made the remark while responding to questions during a March 8, 2023, session of the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.

“I think there’s no doubt that NIH was funding gain-of-function research,” Dr. Redfield told Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R-N.Y.), who then asked the former CDC official, “Is it likely that American tax dollars funded the gain-of-function research that created this virus?” referring to the hypothesis that the pathogen behind COVID-19 leaked from a lab in Wuhan.

He replied in the affirmative, adding that he believes funding came from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other federal agencies.

This has been disputed by Dr. Anthony Fauci, former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), as well as by former NIH Director Dr. Francis Collins, and others.

“The NIH has not ever and does not now fund gain-of-function research in the Wuhan Institute of Virology,” Dr. Fauci said at a Senate hearing on May 11, 2021.

Dr. Collins said in a statement on May 19, 2023, that “neither NIH nor NIAID have ever approved any grant that would have supported ‘gain-of-function’ research on coronaviruses that would have increased their transmissibility or lethality for humans.”
In his testimony on Capitol Hill, Dr. Redfield said that the COVID-19 pandemic presented a “case study” on the potential dangers of gain-of-function research and called for such work to be halted.

“While many believe that gain-of-function research is critical to get ahead of viruses by developing vaccines, in this case, I believe it was the exact opposite, unleashing a new virus on the world without any means of stopping it and resulting in the deaths of millions of people,” he said.

“Because of this, it is my opinion that we should call for a moratorium on gain-of-function research until we have a broader debate and we come to a consensus as a community about the value of gain-of-function research,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is preparing for a scenario in which the bird flu starts to spread among humans."

I’d never had it happen before, ever. After a while an obvious pattern emerged, it was happening after I’d been in close contact with someone who had the C jab/ booster within the last few days.

I had extensive tests and nobody could confirm why this was happening to me. But personally I am convinced it was a reaction to the mRNa (or something else in it) shedding.

If that’s the case, it will be interesting to see what happens when the mRNa flu shots are rolled out later this year/early next year. As we all know, flu is usually spread via the people who’ve had the flu jab…so if mRNa can have this reaction in people then what a great way to fool the masses into thinking bird flu is running rampant, when its infact some form of reaction to the mRNa flu jabs they’ve just started to dish out en masse.

Finland is set to become the first country globally to offer preemptive bird flu vaccines to certain workers exposed to animals, starting as early as next week, health authorities said Tuesday, Reuters reported.

The Nordic nation has procured vaccines for 10,000 individuals, each requiring two doses, through a collaborative EU purchase of up to 40 million doses for 15 countries from the manufacturer CSL Seqirus.

The decision to start providing bird flu vaccines reflects fears that people in close contact with infected animals could contract the H5N1 virus themselves.

“The vaccine will be offered to those aged 18 or over who are at increased risk of contracting avian influenza due to their work or other circumstances,” the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare said in a statement.

According to Reuters, THL stated that Finland has not detected the virus in humans. However, due to the transmission risks associated with its fur farms, the country is keen to initiate vaccinations.

Others restaurants and bakeries are complaining about the same thing too. They just cannot keep up with the prices for baked goods and breakfasts, etc. due to the cost of eggs, which is sky-high. The great "they" explain it as due to bird flu, of course.

But really, wouldn't any flu be best left alone to spread, and create natural immunity among the birds, and then fade away? And does killing all the chickens prevent other birds from picking it up? And do they plan to kill all the birds? It just doesn't make sense, and makes me suspect an artificial egg shortage that is just another shortage created to harass us. In the late 2,000, there were the H1N1 fright and everybody was getting vaccinated. I was training a group of employees from a Pharma company, manufacturing the sh ts for my country. The scientists were in my class. I asked them if they were taking the s h t s and they said no. So guess what I did not do. I could not ask why, whey would not have answered anyhow.
