Sadly, it appears it is now necessary for this conflict to have a thread of its own.
Constant updates are now appearing here:

(Yeah - CNN... I know. But this is what is being run by MSM)
What we're covering:
Israel has carried out a strike inside Iran, a US official told CNN, in a move that threatens to push the region deeper into conflict. The Israeli military said they "don't have a comment at this time" when asked by CNN about reports of explosions in Iran.
Multiple explosions were heard near a military base in Isfahan province where fighter jets are located, according to reports from Iranian semi-official FARS news. Iranian air defenses have been activated in several provinces.
Reports of the explosions came hours after Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian told CNN that if Israel takes any further military action against Iran, its response would be “immediate and at a maximum level.”
Israel had for days been weighing its response to Iran's unprecedented weekend strikes, most of which were intercepted. Iran launched the attack in retaliation for a suspected Israeli strike on its embassy compound in Syria earlier this month.

Here's some historical context for the Iran situation and the post 2013 middle east arrangement.
In 2014 or 15 Kerry Cassidy interviewed Kameran Faily. Her interest seemed to be mainly focused on a theory of his about 'Planet X' and she was unprepared what he said about the situation in the middle east. She was struggling, slow on the uptake and dragging along as he laid out a very precise and clear picture of what transpired in the middle east in 2013, when:
The then heads of NATO revolted against Obama
The Trilateral Commission was side-lined by the higher-ups,
A deal was offered to Iran,
The Muslim Brotherhood were removed from the whole area,
Israel and Saudi Arabia had their noses pushed out of joint,
Britain and Iran eliminated each other's spy channels to seal the deal.
The deal was to give control of the middle east to Iran in exchange for joining up with the NWO system. Iran had one up front condition which was for the Muslim Brotherhood to be completely removed ( they had just taken power in Egypt and were involved in the Syrian conflicts ).
What followed ( even in the main stream press ) was a rapid completion of all the agreed changes in that deal. The following year, Iran turned up at Davos and merged it's banking system in with the rest of the club.

This is a very interesting analysis. Was the latest Israel attack on Iran just a minor operation for the sake of saving face? The Iranians deny that anything of consequence happened. But this is probably not over... The Israelis previously said that they would wait until after Passover (April 23) before conduction any retaliation.

So sad to see that there are people still depending on how CNN "sell it to the world" ... in a specific way (just like so many other horrific wars of the past) ... not to mention all other Deep State (WEF (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?118748-Top-10-Creepiest-Most-Dystopian-Things-Pushed-By-The-World-Economic-Forum)/Agenda2030 (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?111148-The-Great-Reset)/Woke (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?115313-There-s-the-Woke-and-the-In-The-Know) driven) type mass media.
And sure, not everything is a lie not everything is a "spin" ... but how much serves a direction they want to us push towards?
Would be nice to have an overview of all non-Deep State (WEF/Agenda2030/Woke driven) type media reporting daily on the Iran/Israel (https://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?122055-Israel-vs-Hamas-the-Middle-East-at-War) situation.

Can't bring myself to open a CNN page, never gonna happen.
Ha- yeah, I know. Was just an example of the mainstream hype that broke last night.
It was also prominent on Fox, ABC, NBC, etc etc.
But please do post any relevant reports that can help us get a handle on this evolving situation. Your insights are always welcome!

The "missiles" are a spent booster from an unknown air launched missile possibly similar to the Israeli Sparrow (https://southfront.press/israel-used-secret-missiles-in-attack-on-irans-isfahan-air-base-photos/) that was found in Iraq:
While Iranian media reported that the attack was carried out using drones, wreckage of missiles used in the attack was found in central Iraq, close to the towns of Latifiya and Aziziyah.
That constitutes a reprisal?
How do you know it's not the missile that shot Syria?
Is there any explanation for this:
The following year, Iran turned up at Davos and merged it's banking system in with the rest of the club.

EXCLUSIVE
THE REAL STORY OF THE ISRAELI COUNTER RESPONSE
From a very high level intel source.
In Asia.
NOT Russia-China.
Although the strategic partnership, of course, exchanges at the highest level 24-7.
Confirmed and re-confirmed.
It will be great to know what Sy Hersh hears from his Beltway sources.
Here we go.
Israel initially chose to respond with extreme force.
An F-35 loaded with a nuclear bomb was sent east over Jordan.
The mission: cause a high-altitude detonation over Iran that would provoke a surge in the high-capacity power lines, crippling Iran's electric grid, as well as disabling all electronic devices.
An EMP attack.
However...
... As the Israeli F-35 was leaving Jordanian airspace it was shot down by the Russian Air Force.
Hence the publicised version of the Israeli counter response was such a travesty.
In the end all sides decided not to publicise the real news - to de-escalate what could well turn into WWIII.

Scott Ritter's opinion:
Pepe Escobar has written a post where he reports that an Israeli F-35 carrying a nuclear weapon was shot down over Jordan by a Russian fighter.
While I respect Pepe as a journalist, his source is wrong.
Israel would never take such a precipitous action. Not only would it provide public acknowledgment of Israeli nuclear weapons capability, thereby putting Israel in open violation of existing agreements between it and the U.S., it would also put Israel in violation of the 1968 Outer Space Treaty prohibiting the deployment and/or use of nuclear weapons in space and the Biden administration’s recent admonishments in this regard.
Moreover, the scenario describes makes no sense in terms of the characterization of the weapons involved, both in terms of the alleged Russian-Israeli engagement, and what Israel would hope happens regarding EMP.
This is, in every way shape and form nonsensical reporting.
Pepe should retract his post.

Putin's Big Anti-Israel Move? Russia To Arm Iran With Its Most Advanced Fighter Jet
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZfCDLlRS53Y&ab_channel=HindustanTimes (3:42) (Irritating soundtrack - recommend mute)
Iran will receive the first delivery of (12 of) Russia's Sukhoi SU-35 fighter jets in the next few days, Iranian media reported on April 20. The delivery of Russian fighter jets to Iran came amid heightened tensions between Israel and the Islamic Republic since the latter’s alleged inception

This perhaps is based on another version of is this real (https://southfront.press/satellite-images-show-damage-to-s-300pmu2-radar-at-irans-isfahan-air-base/):
Iran International published on April 21 what it said were images of before and after the April 19 Israeli attack at an air defense site near the heavily-fortified Natanz nuclear facility close to the city of Isfahan.
The images, which are yet to be verified, indicate that the radar of one of Iran’s S-300PMU2 long-range air defense systems was hit during the attack.
Iran International is an opposition outlet, critical of the Iranian government. It is reportedly funded by Saudi Arabia and headquartered in London, the capital of the United Kingdom.
Neither Israel nor Iran said anything happened.
I would expect Iran has any number of sleeper cells armed with drones and other light weapons, almost none of these being "independent Iranians", but, on some foreign payroll. Therefor Israel can probably minorly "attack" it sometimes. I am not too sure about "secret mysteries of the air force".

Thanks to Bill for "breaking" this important possible news. As usual, it is worth reminding ourselves that what matters most is what the Big Players believe or know - rather than what we can find-out.
My conclusion is that when a person or nation deliberately cultivates a reputation as a mad dog that might do anything at any time; over the short term, others will try to avoid confrontation with you - and you will probably get your own way... In the short term.
So, this is a tempting strategy.
But in the longer term, a mad dog cannot be tolerated in the vicinity. If it cannot be cured or safely-confined, it will probably be destroyed sooner or later.
And such a reputation is more easily gained than lost.
And because a mad dog can do anything at any time; sooner or later the mad dog will be blamed for atrocities it did not actually commit.

VERY IMPORTANT UPDATE
I now have TWO separate, definitive confirmations from TWO ultra high level intel sources from TWO separate Asian nations. Working to get a third - at least a partial acknowledgment.
I moved to Asia 30 years ago. Built a unparalleled network. Trust my top sources a billion per cent.
The original source that led to my first post reconfirmed he stands by it. His words:
"I'm honestly surprised that people are surprised. Do they really think if something like this happened it's gonna be presented to them in front of their TVs? It's like history has taught them nothing."
Working on a first column - probably out tomorrow.
Many thanks to all who offered informed, sharp comment and criticism. This should be a collective effort to get to what might have happened: the shape of it, not necessarily the details as they were leaked.

if they shot down the airplane with a nuclear bomb, what happend with the bomb itself?? didn't it explode.......
Mark (Star Mariner)
22nd April 2024, 11:46
I'm no expert, but if this shoot-down did occur I would not expect the bomb to explode. To detonate the core of a nuclear device you need a specially shaped implosion. These bombs really aren't that fragile. However, the radiological material within, being most likely plutonium, is highly radioactive. If the housing to this bomb gets damaged leaking plutonium would cause a lot of problems where ever it comes down.

Then there's the age old lore around here that 'ET' won't allow use of nukes.
The very first thing I thought when I heard this story. In fact, whenever nukes are mentioned in all this increasing war rhetoric I'm thinking nah-uh in the back of my mind.
UFO incursions at air bases and missile silos have been reported for many years, and were frequent during the cold war. These objects interfered with test-firings, and brought entire facilities offline. I strongly believe this was 'them up there' sending a message, simply put: we can put a stop to this any time we please so stop wasting your time. Nuclear weapons are out of bounds, and off-limits.
One wonders in fact if 'they' were the real reason for the subsequent non-proliferation treaties, and the ban on nuclear testing. It was a waste of time and money, for the superpowers would never get to use them. It makes more sense to me than them suddenly growing a conscience.

If it turns out to be the case, of massive significance right here and now is what the great nuclear powers do to frame it/hide it, because their strategic stances are so dependant on the nuke threat.
Again, IF, true, they ( ET ) may have just ramped up the "coming to Jesus" moment for the great powers.

Hi Bill,
Long time no see/hear.
Last time we saw each other was in Zurich in 2009. Anyways a lot of things happened in the world since then. Do you think this is still going on as "Anglo Saxon" plan posted here long time ago?
Or that many unseen factors changed this time-line and are stearing the events in unforseen to dark - pathways?
Thank you.

Text:
This is undoubtedly the best analysis I've heard to date of the Iran strike on Israel. It's long-ish (about 10 minutes) but absolutely worth listening to.
The man speaking is Chas Freeman, former Assistant Secretary of Defense and, very relevant to the topic, former US Ambassador to Saudi Arabia.
He's interviewed by
@PLottaz
, an Associate Professor at Kyoto University in Japan (this is the full video of the interview: https://youtube.com/watch?v=jLai2YG4NRc).
What Freeman argues is that Iran's strike "changes all the rules of the game in the Middle-East". The biggest deal for him is that "the Saudis, the Emiratis and others informed the United States that they would not permit American operations against Iran from their territory and Iran warned those states that if they did, they would become targets. So in a sense, Iran has achieved the neutralization of American forces in the Persian gulf that it long sought. So from a tactical military point of view it was a 'nothing burger' - nobody was killed, nobody was damaged - [...] but from a strategic point of view, from a soft power point of view, it was a huge success. Iran accomplished its objective and it left Israel with an intolerable dilemma. Israel cannot continue to behave as though it can act with impunity."

From Pepe Escobar today. (Scott Ritter has posted that he does not believe this. His twitter post is below.)
https://t.me/rocknrollgeopolitics/11024[INDENT]EXCLUSIVE
THE REAL STORY OF THE ISRAELI COUNTER RESPONSE
From a very high level intel source.
In Asia.
NOT Russia-China.
Although the strategic partnership, of course, exchanges at the highest level 24-7.
Confirmed and re-confirmed.
It will be great to know what Sy Hersh hears from his Beltway sources.
Here we go.
Israel initially chose to respond with extreme force.
An F-35 loaded with a nuclear bomb was sent east over Jordan.
[ ... ]Here's Ray McGovern, who was immediately asked for his opinion on this. McGovern is as wise as the Old Man of the Mountains, and he replied:
It sounded a little hard to believe, but he could not rule it out.
Such an incident could not remain hidden for very long, so if this really happened we'll be sure to know the truth fairly soon.
In the meantime, we'll just have to wait and see.
Absolutely, "Wait and see" or as I have contrived as a motto: "In tempore veritas (https://avalonlibrary.net/Tintin/Avalon_flag_idea%203.jpg)"
In the meantime, another update from Pepe Escobar via X (https://twitter.com/RealPepeEscobar/status/1782015672639168882), below:

The commentary in the thread is worth noting too.
Further follow-up from Pepe Escobar, here via X (https://twitter.com/RealPepeEscobar/status/1783168571075440782):
THE NUCLEAR F-35 MYSTERY - FINAL UPDATE
1. It’s now fully established that The Information was confirmed independently by the intel of a Big Power.
2. The Information was NOT relayed by Russia.
3. It then reached a third nation - and from that to me.
4. The players involved are not backing down an inch from The Information.
5. I was privately provided with two examples of the accuracy of recent intel by the Big Power on two separate big developments in West Asia .
6. The source that contacted me notes that “sometimes, after news has entered the media space, there is no choice but not to provide clarification."
Additionally, a senior Russian diplomat who does not know The Information, said to me the following:
1. “That is entirely possible.”
2. It shouldn't have been revealed to the public.
3. “If this is true, then all sides will be determined to cover it up.”
One unanswered question for me is: Why did the Big Power source relay The Information to an intel agency from another nation? I tend to believe this was to erase its tracks in the chain. Particularly because my initial source has now revealed that the Big Power gained their intelligence firsthand - and that it was not transmitted to them by the Russians, Iranians or other direct parties to the hot war in West Asia.
To sum it all up, via the source who originally received The Information: “If anyone should be accused of fabrication it is the ’source’; but in this case the ’source’ remains confident of the accuracy."
I rest my case. I published raw intel the way I received it.
It’s up to a wider audience to judge whether - and how - The Information connects with new developments occurring at breakneck speed, and part of a New Paradigm.

This news item has popped up, and I can't help wondering if it's related to a failed attempt to explode a nuke over Iran.
If something stopped the mission from being successful the US military may have set up a test mission ( with a small nuke ) to see if whatever prevented the Iran hit would prevent the test flight/bomb drop . . ?
If so, they found out that a test flight over open ocean could complete the test mission, that'll make them scratch their heads.
Just thinking aloud here.

🇮🇷A chopper carrying Iran's President Ibrahim Reisi and his Foreign Minister Amirabdolahian has been involved in an "incident" in Jolfa region, according to Iranian media reports.
A deputy provincial governor general says the chopper has crashed, and rescue teams have been dispatched, but Iran's state TV says it has had an "emergency landing" amid foggy weather.
Three helicopters were in the convoy, with two reaching their destination safely, according to media reports.
The IRGC-affiliated Tasnim News says Raisi's companions managed to establish contact, raising hopes for a resolution without loss of life.
The foggy weather is hindering rescue efforts.
Rescue teams are using drones to find the Iranian president's chopper in an area between Kalibar and Varzaghan regions, said the head of the Iranian Red Crescent Society's Relief and Rescue Department.
All their phones are now out of service, the IRGC-affiliated Fars News reported.
Update: A brief contact was made with someone on the helicopter carrying President Raisi. Then screaming and ambulance soreness are heard and the contact was lost.
The rescuers have not been able to reach the location of the incident, the other outposts reporting.
Tasnim News Agency: according to local residents: Due to fog and bad weather conditions in the area, the status of the helicopter that carries President Reisi is still unknown.
IRNA: 16 rescue teams headed to the area of the Iranian President’s plane accident.
Tasnim News Agency: Massive rescue operation ongoing after a helicopter carrying Iran's president suffered an accident.
The helicopter has not been located yet per Tasnim News Agency.

Though many outlets are reporting different information, the only thing that is clear at this time is:
IRNA reporter's field report of the search and rescue operation of the helicopter carrying the president
🔹 According to the reports given by the residents of the surrounding villages, the helicopter carrying the president and his companions has had an accident in the forest area of Dizmar between the villages of Uzi and Pir Dawood.
Residents of this area, which is located in the north of Varzeghan in East Azarbaijan province, told IRNA reporter that voices were heard in this area an hour ago.
More than 20 rescue and rescue teams with full equipment, including drones and search dogs, have been sent to the area, and along with them, groups of rangers and special forces of the armed forces are also present in the area to help with search operations.
Due to the impassability of the area as well as adverse weather conditions, especially thick fog in the area, search and rescue operations take time.

Interior minister confirms hard landing of helicopter carrying President Raisi
Iran's Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi has confirmed to the national TV that one of the copters of the president's convoy had a hard landing.
"Various rescue groups are moving towards the site, but due to the fog and bad weather, it may take time to reach the area. The work is under control," Vahidi said.
"There have been contacts with [the president's] companions, but given that the area is mountainous and it is difficult to establish contacts, we hope that the rescue teams will reach the site of the incident sooner and give us more information," the interior minister added.
Local Iranian media have reported that it is heavily raining in the area in Varzaghan District and it is hard for the rescue and search teams to walk in the dense fog.

How is power distributed in Iran?
▪️Supreme Leader: The most powerful position is held by the supreme leader, currently Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The supreme leader is the highest secular and religious authority in the country, holding sway over the Iranian government, military and judiciary.
▪️President: The president, currently Ebrahim Raisi, is the second highest-ranking official. The president carries out the decrees, and answers to the Supreme Leader. Unlike the executive in other countries, the president of Iran does not have full control over the government.
▪️Vice President: Currently Mohammad Mokhber is first vice president. According to Article 131, the first vice president takes over as acting president if the president in incapacitated, but only if permitted by the supreme leader. According to the same article, the first vice president (or anyone serving as acting president) must make sure that a new president is elected within fifty days.
▪️Guardian Council: This 12-member body, half appointed by the supreme leader and half by the judiciary, vets candidates for office and can veto legislation.
▪️Assembly of Experts: An 88-member body of clerics elected by the public, this assembly has the power to appoint and dismiss the supreme leader.
▪️Parliament (Majlis): The elected legislative body can draft laws, but its decisions can be overridden by the Guardian Council.

🇮🇷 Expert's take on the incident in Iran
by Abbas Djouma, international journalist, for
@rt_russian
At the time of writing, the fate of Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi remains unknown. Nor is known the fate of those who were with him in the helicopter, including the country's foreign minister. Rescuers are working in the most adverse conditions: dense fog and rain. The helicopter has not been found for a long time, and with each new report, fears grow.
But I think we should do our best to put emotions aside and analyse the situation globally. I would like to start by annoying the opponents of the Islamic Republic. The system of dual power in Iran, where there is a president and a spiritual leader, is built in such a way that there are no irreplaceable people in this system. Absolutely all personnel in the state sphere are trained accordingly. That is why the death of the legendary General Qassem Suleimani as a result of a US attack in 2020 did not lead to the collapse of the state security system and did not weaken the IRGC. The general was immediately replaced by another general. Yes, less media-savvy, but no less experienced and effective.
The same can be said of the president. And the Supreme Leader too. You can only envy the Iranian talent pool. But if it turns out that the helicopter crash was sabotage, a terrorist attack, an assassination attempt, I do not envy the clients and the perpetrators. Iran has repeatedly demonstrated that it is waiting for an aggressor. The scale of this incident could have such serious consequences for the region and the world that one has to consider the assassination version. And Israel seems to be the most interested party in this major conflict.
I am sure that the Israeli attack on the Iranian diplomatic mission in Syria on 1 April 2024 was an attempt by the failing Israeli leadership to drag Tehran into a major war that the United States would not be able to turn away from. It didn't work. Iran responded firmly but cautiously. If the incident with the presidential helicopter turns out to be a continuation of this story, the situation could become a "black swan" and the world will once again find itself on the brink of a major war.
It is also impossible not to recall the recent coup attempt in Turkey and the attempted assassination of the Slovak Prime Minister. There have also been unconfirmed reports of an assassination attempt on the crown prince of Saudi Arabia. Now there's a deadly fog in Iran. Personally, I don't believe in coincidences. Not this kind.

Considering that the area has a steep and forested slope and on the other hand we are witnessing heavy rain, the range of visibility is very limited and for this reason, the rescue forces have unfortunately not yet reached the desired point, but the forces have a large presence in the area and we hope With the prayers of the dear people, they will reach the accident site as soon as possible.

Iran’s Cabinet holds emergency session after President Raisi’s copter crash
Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Cabinet held an emergency session on Sunday to deal with the aftermath of a helicopter crash in northwest of the country that involved President Ebrahim Raisi and senior members of his government.
IRNA EnglishMay 19, 2024
May 19, 2024, 10:11 PM
Vice President Mohammad Mokhber chaired the session aimed at mobilizing all potential and capacities of the government to find the helicopter of Raisi and his entourage in northern regions of Iran’s East Azarbaijan province.
Mokhber ordered Health Minister Bahram Einollahi and deputy president for executive affairs Mohsen Mansouri to travel to the region where the copter is believed to have been crashed to supervise search and rescue operations in the area.
Earlier on Sunday, President Raisi was returning from a ceremony to open a dam on Iran’s border with the Azerbaijan Republic, when his helicopter crashed upon landing in Varzaqan region.
Dozens of teams have been dispatched to the region to locate the crash site. The search operation is still underway, but officials say bad weather conditions are hampering the efforts.

The helicopter that crashed with the Iranian president on board was an American Bell 412, AP reports.
What is known about this machine:
▪️It is a mass model but quite old in its design;
▪️It is an improved version of the Bell 205, and the 205, in turn, is a modified civilian version of the utilitarian army helicopter Bell UH-1 Iroquois from the Vietnam War;
▪️It can carry eight to nine passengers on board alongside two pilots. The maximum take-off weight is 5 tons, and the flight altitude is 5.3 thousand meters;
▪️Its engine is reliable: if it is properly maintained, there should be no problems;
▪️At one time, Iran had about 10-12 such helicopters.

High-octane speculation here. But if there was a 'hard landing', one explanation is that the helicopter's avionics (that indicate ground proximity, for instance) malfunctioned.
In thick fog and bad weather, with the pilot blind and relying entirely on instruments, the heli might then basically fly straight into the ground, undamaged (before the landing) and horizontally stable, but unprepared for any sudden impact. Rather like dropping the thing to the ground from 20 feet up. It'd be like a car hitting a wall at 30 mph.
There might be sophisticated ways to interfere with a heli's avionics, which might be partially or totally dependent on GPS to establish altitude. Whether the black box would have any record of that, I have no idea. But the heli, the passengers, and its black box will definitely be found pretty soon.

Look very very closely for bullet holes in the tops of their heads.
Ron Brown, 'died in a plane crash' in Croatia in April 1996, then later found to have been shot in the top of his head.
In a case of assassination, a crash is media cover for an assassination, if not the murder weapon.
Iran admitted having indirect talks with 'the US' days earlier.

Tsargrad: The assassination was “organized at the highest level.” An “excruciating death” is a signal to Russia and China. “They are killing everyone who supports Russia and China.” — sources
It is reported that local authorities promptly sent 8 ambulances to the site of the alleged crash. Earlier, the IRIB TV channel reported that the situation is seriously complicated by weather conditions, which prevents rescuers from reaching the scene of the incident, said Tsargrad columnist Ilya Golovnev.
According to the latest information, the location of the helicopter of Iranian President Raisi was found, rescuers are approaching the scene. This is reported by Press TV.
Immediately after the incident, Israel was quick to deny its participation in the crash of the helicopter, on board which was Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry. Earlier in the Arab media, there was a version that the crash of the helicopter was an attempted assassination of Raisi, carried out as a result of sabotage by Israeli security services in collusion with Azerbaijan, with whose leader the Iranian leader had met not long before the crash.
Azerbaijan is a latent ally of Israel. If it turns out that Raisi was killed, all this will end in a big Transcaucasian war,
- says war correspondent Alexei Zhivov.
Ayatollah Al-Hashem, the governor of Eastern Azerbaijan, was also present in the helicopter. According to some reports, the vehicle made a hard landing near the village of Uzi. The area is inaccessible, making it extremely difficult for rescue services to operate.
The Mehr publication initially reported that Raisi was alive, but the news was hastily deleted afterward. Later, the US publication Politico wrote that the incident involving the Iranian president is “serious” and “there is a high probability of injuries.”
The Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA) also reported that “some unofficial sources say that some companions of the Iranian president died an agonizing death” at the crash site.
Assassination versions
At the same time, a security source in Iran believes the helicopter may have been shot down:
“This puts us in front of a very serious and dangerous security event. We are facing the possibility of a “major assassination attempt” or an actual assassination.
Political scientist Sergei Markov points out that if it is indeed a terrorist attack, Israel could be behind it. It could also be radical Sunni Islamic groups. And, of course, there is always a threat of a terrorist attack from the three main terrorist organizations in the world: ISIS*, the SBU, and the Ukrainian Defense Ministry’s GUR. For all of them, Iran is an enemy.
In turn, US officials believe that Iranian President Raisi has been assassinated. Biden was informed about the situation with the helicopter. A short time later, journalist Arash Azizi published an article for The Atlantic, where he also claimed that his sources had reported the death of the Iranian president.
If so, we should remember who killed IRGC General Qassem Suleimani. And it was done by the US,
- reminded military blogger Sergei Kolyasnikov.
He also recalled a series of “coincidences” that have occurred recently: on May 15, 2024, an assassination attempt on Robert Fico; on May 15, 2024, media reports about the prevention of a plot to overthrow President Recep Erdogan in Turkey; on May 16, 2024, Serbian police in the north of the country detained a man for threatening President Aleksandar Vucic; on May 19, 2024, a helicopter crash with Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi and the Foreign Minister. And the assassinations of General Suleimani and IRGC generals during an Israeli strike on the Iranian Consulate General.
The US and UK have opened a new chapter of terror in their history. All pro-Russian and pro-China politicians in the West should double their caution and security,
- writes Kolyasnikov.
Chinese scholar Nikolai Vavilov holds a similar opinion:
They have moved to the last stage - they are killing everyone who supports Russia and China, apparently, things are not good at all and the failure of the West’s strategy after Putin’s visit to China has become as obvious as possible.

But of course the Iranian President might still be alive.More speculation here. A sudden drop to the ground would be unlikely to kill anyone, though there could maybe be spinal injuries or a couple of broken bones or bad sprains.
But then the problem becomes hypothermia. The crashed heli would provide some protection from the elements, but in rain and wind turning to snow, and as night fell and mountain temperatures plummeted anyway, it might be tough for the 63-year old President to make it through if he wasn't in pretty good shape mentally and physically.
Edit to add, now the helicopter and badly burned bodies have been found:
It was clearly a crash, not a so-called 'hard landing', which no-one survived. It wasn't a 'sudden drop to the ground' at all. The heli just flew straight into the mountainside.

I'll stick with the hard landing for now. Presumably that phrase came from the pilot while it was going down.
I saw an aerial image last night of dark streaks radiating out from the craft on the ground. That could be from an explosion on impact of the craft or it could be a special ops team clearing up evidence that they had been there to make sure all were dead and if not to do the job themselves.
I'm not saying that IS what happened but the jury should stay out for now.
I'm especially waiting for audio from the pilot, if we can get a straight unedited version.

As a possibly interesting provisional commentary, Alastair Crooke, one of the most intelligent and insightful analysts that we have, tells Judge Napolitano in the first few minutes of the livestream below that there are still a number of unexplained factors in this incident.
Just one of those was that the heli was almost completely destroyed, unlike many photos we've seen from Ukraine where helis were shot down but are seen still pretty much intact despite explosions or fire. He wisely states that forensics will reveal much more, and of course the highly experienced and capable Russians will be assisting with that.

As for the Israelis' denial, they tell so many lies all the time that anything they say has no conviction at all . . .
My theory goes way beyond Israel. I can't really spell it out yet because I need to know a few facts about the people on board, Firstly, how long had the leader been in office. If he and the people around him were part of the switch of power control at the political level in Iran in 2013-14 my theory begins to stack up.
my conspiracy theory
Simply(ish) put, there was a massive change of power landscape in the middle east in 2013. Trump's rage about that Iran deal, which was done over Obama's head and over the heads of the Trilateral Commission/Council on foreign relations and over the heads of the leaders in Israel even, could mean the controllers of the fake Biden regime are the so called 'white hats' who are finally kicking out the Brit/Rothschild controlled political administration in Iran ( in cahoots with the religious leadership who were tricked in 2013 ) so that a proper peace deal in line with the general 'white hat' plan can go ahead and get the full takedown of the global deep state done.

This is one of those events when the geopolitical importance derives from what certain key players believe about the event.
What Western people (especially officials and journalists) say or write about what happened has no relevance to these conclusions and any actions that follow - except that whatever they say or write is certain to be dishonest and misleading, and everybody relevant knows that for a fact.

It is no secret that Baku's occupation of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has heralded the entrance of Israel to this sensitive region north of Iran.
Israel was the key military and diplomatic backer of Azerbaijan's campaign to seize this critical territory and its 138km border with Iran.
An earlier 2016 attempt failed in four days, as Armenia had a pro-Artsakh gov't, but found legs four years later, with anti-Artsakh Pashinyan installed in Yerevan.
Though the 2020 war, Israel finally got in Artsakh what Iran had in south Lebanon: an outpost directly on its enemy's border.
Armenian and Russian forces were withdrawn over the past three years, the former by Pashinyan's order, and the latter by Pashinyan's treasonous decision to recognize Artsakh as Azerbaijan.
Aliyev during this time period presided over construction of not one, not two, but three, airbases in the territory, and Israel began to build a "smart city" on the border with Iran.
Iran has tried to maintain the minimum of diplomatic engagement with Baku, while setting red lines regarding the last sliver of a border with Armenia, hence Iranian President Raisi's acceptance to inaugurate new infrastructure with Aliyev on the border this morning.

What could have caused Raisi’s helicopter crash? Decorated Russian pilot weighs in
Helicopters are all-weather vehicles, Vadim Bazykin, an honored Russian helicopter test pilot, tells Russian media as he comments on Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s crash.
“A helicopter’s weakest point is, unfortunately, the crew because not many pilots are able to fly in bad weather,” Bazykin says, adding that an experienced crew should know the ABC of flying over mountainous terrain.
When entering an area with dense fog, pilots are obliged to calculate a safe height, he explains. According to him, Raisi’s helicopter seems to have flown below the permissible height.
“The fog is usually only 300-500 meters thick. The pilots should have checked meticulously if there was any chance to land and if not – they should have flown back. There are no other options,” the expert underscores.
Touching upon a possible technical defect of Raisi’s US-made Bell-212 helicopter, Bazykin emphasizes that security comes first when it comes to presidential vehicles.
He adds that even though the presidential helicopter was “a very reliable” yet outdated vehicle, it was almost surely equipped with new engines because of security considerations. “So there is no need to blame technical problems that caused the crash of Raisi’s vehicle," the expert concludes.

Hossein Amir Abdollahian as head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry: What will he be remembered for?
Abdollahian took over the post of foreign minister with the accession of President Ebrahim Raisi in 2021. Together, they built Iran's up-to-date foreign policy.
Sputnik has collected some of his most important moments to remember:
◾️Before coming to the post of foreign minister, Abdollahian specialized in relations with Arab countries;
◾️With his work, it became possible to normalize relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia in 2023, which had been extremely tense for several decades. At the same time, the two countries were able to establish bilateral trade and economic cooperation and also agreed on mutual understanding in matters of regional security;
◾️Iran became a member of the SCO (2023) and BRICS (2024);
◾️ In 2023, key visits to Moscow and Beijing took place for the head of the Iranian Foreign Ministry. On May 14, a few days before his death, Abdollahian announced Iran’s desire to develop a partnership with India within the SCO and BRICS;
◾️With the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine in 2022, he openly expressed support for Russia. In negotiations with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in 2023, Abdollahian emphasized the “record figures with 20% growth” of trade turnover;
◾️Abdollahian regularly criticized the work of the UN Security Council - in particular due to its failure to put pressure on Israel and promptly help the Gaza population during current war;
◾️He was distinguished by sharp criticism of the policies of the collective West - primarily the US and Israel. In particular, he accused the US of "publicly supporting the killing of thousands of children and women in the Gaza Strip" by Israel;
◾️After the Israeli airstrike on the Iranian Embassy in Damascus, Abdollahian promised "a proportionate response". A week after the strike, he personally flew to Damascus to open a new consulate in Syria.

Late Iran foreign minister’s drive to bolster ties with Saudi Arabia was ‘thorn in Israel’s side’ – professor
In terms of the consequences of the passing of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his foreign minister, “let’s not forget Hossein Ameer Abdullahian was a seasoned diplomat,” Dr Alexander Azadgan, US-based professor of International Political Economy and chief geopolitical counsel with the Serbian Center for Strategic Studies, told Sputnik.
Ameer Abdullahian was “quite instrumental in his shuttle diplomacy in bringing Iran and Saudi Arabia together, a thorn at the side of Israel,” Azadgan stressed.
“Many, perhaps, may not be aware of the tremendous hard work and diplomacy that Dr Ameer Abdullahian played in terms of avoiding war between Iran and Azerbaijan. It's so ironic that this helicopter crashed at the Iran-Azerbaijan border,” the professor added.
According to him, “It's fascinating, how important of a role this country [Iran] has in the grand geopolitical games. Iran is a signatory to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and it has just became a member of the BRICS”, which also includes Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
“Iran wants to be instrumental in the Road and Belt initiative of the Chinese. Iran has very close relationship with Russia. And we all know the tremendous tension between Iran and the US during the past 45 years,” Azadgan said.

Iranian President Raisi: What is his legacy?
Raisi's political course of action was friendship with neighbors and regional allied powers, but not Europe and the West.
Under Ebrahim Raisi:
🔺Iran became a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO);
🔺Iran became a member of BRICS;
🔺Iran has become a major stakeholder in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU);
🔺Iran has managed to resume and strengthen diplomatic relations with a number of Arab neighbors and African countries: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Djibouti, Maldives;
🔺Iran made the British pay their debt: £400 million for the contract to supply Chieftain tanks, which was canceled in 1979;
🔺Iran has maximized oil production, even exceeding the sanctions level: 3.4 million barrels per day;
🔺It was under President Raisi that Iran for the first time conducted a large-scale operation against Israel - firing rockets from its territory;
🔺Russian-Iranian relations have reached a new level both in military-political cooperation and trade: trade turnover between Moscow and Tehran has grown to $4 billion; a visa-free regime for tourists has also begun to operate between the countries.

Iran president’s death may have ‘serious consequences internationally’ – professor
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian died in Sunday’s helicopter crash in the Islamic Republic’s East Azerbaijan province, Vice President Mohsen Mansouri has confirmed.
The entire nation was keeping an eagle eye on the situation after the news about the presidential helicopter’s “hard landing” was broken, Foad Izadi, associate professor at the Department of American Studies, Faculty of World Studies, University of Tehran, told Sputnik.
“Last night I was going to television stations and on my way to the stations, and coming back home, I was seeing people in different squares gathering, praying for him,” Izadi said.
“People are, of course, concerned - people who voted for him, of course, liked him, people who did not vote for him, don't want to see the president of a country passing away in this manner,” according to the pundit.
Reflecting on what could have caused the crash, Izadi singled out bad weather conditions, technical troubles and an act of sabotage.
“It could be the weather - the weather was very bad yesterday in that region, it could be a malfunction of the helicopter, or it could be sabotage. If it's sabotage, then it's going to have serious consequences internationally,” the associate professor pointed out.
President Raisi “was also liked by many outside Iran because of his support for Palestinian cause, because of his culture of resistance against American imperialism. So I think […] he will he remembered by many people outside Iran,” Izadi concluded.

Iranian President Raisi predicted NATO collapse in speech to Russian State Duma
On January 2022, Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi addressed the Russian State Duma during an official visit to Moscow. He criticized the actions of the Western alliance and predicted that the current behavior of the bloc will lead to its eventual collapse.
"NATO is infiltrating the geographical space of various countries under various pretexts and covers, threatens independent nations, spreads the so-called 'Western model'. They oppose independent democracies, oppose the self-identification of peoples, cultures, traditions - all of this is on the NATO agenda, and this is a lie. We see the deceit in their behavior, and this behavior will ultimately lead to the alliance's disintegration," he said.
Raisi condemned the West's efforts to impose hegemony on other countries, including through sanctions, and called on independent states to unite against this aggression.
"Currently, we see that the strategy of dominance has failed and US is in its weakest position. The power of independent states is further developed. We are going through a historical period of development."
Raisi also stressed that the Western countries will not lose their intention to continue their expansionist policies. According to him, their aim is to weaken independent states by imposing economic sanctions and destabilizing the internal situation.
Iranian President Raisi died on May 19 in a helicopter crash in the province of East Azerbaijan. Iranian Foreign Minister Hosein Amir Abdollahian, Governor of Iran's East Azerbaijan Province Malik Rahmati, and Imam of the city of Tabriz Mohammad Ali al-Hashem also died in the helicopter crash.

Thank you Ravenlocke. Thank you all. Two points:
(1) the "flying into the mountain" aspect, with te concurrent radial (debris?) "ejections” and the fact that the bodies were burnt (and mangled? torn?) beyond recognition, make me think of an event beyond any control by the pilot
– which reminds me of the strange crash of a passenger aeroplane in the Alps, many years ago, that was attributed to a murder plus suicide by the German pilot “under influence of medication” – but which could be better understood as the result of a takeover of the controls by a external technology (as in 9-11) —
would/does such technology also exist for helicopters? would the strange choice of a small helicopter for such an important delegation not point to the (erroneous) belief that helicopters are “takeover safe”?
(2) Azerbaijan: it is important to make a clear distinction between the state Azerbaijan (capital: Baku) involved in an age-old conflict with Armenia, and the North Western Iranian province of Azerbaijan (capital: Tabriz).

Addendum and correction.
Within Iran there are actually two provinces called Azerbaijan:
• East Azerbaijan the capital of which is Tabriz, bordering on the State Azerbaijan with capital Baku to the North and North-East, and Armenia with capital Yerevan to the North-West; and
• West Azerbaijan the capital of which is Orumiyeh, bordering on Armenia to the North and Turkey to the West.

Did Israel assassinate Iran's President?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9U_BIY6GzI4&ab_channel=DimitriLascaris (1:15:31)
On May 20, 2024, the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran announced that its President, Ebrahim Raisi, and its Foreign Minister, Hossein Amirabdollahian, had died in a helicopter crash in northwest Iran, near the border with Azerbaijan.
The investigation into the cause of the crash has only begun, but one question that is certain to be considered is whether the helicopter was brought done by sabotage. This question looms large after Raisi ordered a successful drone and missile attack on Israel, carried out on April 13, 2024.
Dimitri Lascaris discusses with Lebanon-based geopolitical analyst, Laith Marouf, the question of whether Israel might have brought down the helicopter in some manner.
Also, on May 20, 2024, the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, Q.C., announced that he was seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, and three senior officials from Hamas. As Lascaris and Marouf discuss, Khan's allegations against Netanyahu and Gallant are extremely limited. Moreover, Khan has packaged his allegations against Netanyahu and Gallant as being less egregious than his allegations against Hamas.

IRANIAN PRESIDENT RAISI HELICOPTER CRASH DESCRIBED BY CHEIF OF STAFF PRESENT IN THE 3RD CHOPPER
“After our noon prayers, we departed towards the direction of Tabriz. The weather was clear, there was no weather condition to be worried about. After half an hour being in the air, prior to reaching the Sungun copper mine, there was a small patch of clouds; interviewer asks: “So there was no fog?” He replied, not at all. There was fog on the ground, but not in up the air where we were advancing with the helicopters. However in one small compacted area, there was a small patch of clouds above a cliff. In terms of height, this cloud was on the same height as our flight’s height.
It was there when the now-martyred helicopter pilot, who was also the commander of the fleet, that told the rest of the pilots to ascend above the clouds. We were the 3rd pilot, behind the president’s helicopter. We came above the clouds, we advanced for approximately 30 seconds. Our pilot suddenly realised that the main helicopter carrying the president is missing.
Interviewer asks: “You didn’t see the helicopter anymore after ascending?”
He replied, yes exactly, after ascending above the clouds, we didn’t see the main helicopter. The ascension itself didn’t feel difficult or hard. Sometimes, when we use the plane we feel turbulence but we didn’t feel anything at all inside the helicopter this time, when ascending. And after we ascended there were no other clouds.
Interviewer asks: “So beyond this, there were no weather forecasts mentioning any disturbances in the weather to make it unsafe?” He replied, no there wasn’t any.
Shortly after, we were able to see beneath us and there were no clouds anymore and we had reached the area of the copper mine. We realised however that our pilot is making an U-turn suddenly so I asked him why? He said that one of our helicopters is missing. We estimate that they made an emergency landing, because we also have no radio contact with it anymore. So I asked him when was the last time contact was made? The pilot answered: “A minute and 30 seconds ago, when the pilot told us to ascend above the clouds.”
Our pilot circled around the area a couple of times, but the area with the cloud patch was also invisible to us and it was too risky to enter that area. We failed several times to make any radio contact. We were forced to make a landing after 30 seconds at the Sungun copper mine to investigate.
During the flight, we had continuous cell phone calls with the passengers, including the bodyguard, Mr. Abdollahian, the governor of East-Azerbaijan and the Friday imam of Tabriz. However we tried calling all of them without luck.
After some tries, calling the cellphone of the captain accompanying the president, someone picked the phone. It was Ayatollah Hashem, the friday imam of Tabriz. He told us that I’m not feeling well. He didn’t tell us anything special. I asked him what exactly has happened? He told us that he didn’t know what has happened, when asked on his whereabouts, he said that he didn’t know. He only described what he could see, described to us what he saw, e.g. surrounded by trees. I asked him about the condition of the others, the Ayatollah replied that he’s alone and couldn’t see anyone else and he’s alone.
The copper mine had good facilities such as ambulances and the necessary vehicles. We formed a team to go and search for them. We requested for immediate emergency help as well.”

Note: References to Ravenlocke's post have been removed with apologies
This dialogue between Lascaris and Marouf redresses virtually all the distortions we have been subjected to for quite some time now by Zionia – or the “zionist colonisers” – and its champions.
The eternal hammering on the “Hamas baby butchers” meme people like Piers Morgan are so deft at in order to stabilise their format of confronting “the two war parties" : finally put in context with the systematic mistreatment of Palestinians in the Zionian jails and – as Marouf states correctly – "death camps”.
There is no "war" between Palestina and Israel: there is “Palestinian resistance against Zionist occupation” – that is why I think the thread title "Israel vs Palestine” is, at least, unwarranted and insulting to the victims – and should be changed accordingly.

1792953963911819665Just noting this here, thinking aloud with what others may justifiably consider wild speculation.
If the leading helicopter pilot instructed the others to fly above the cloud layer (which they immediately did with no trouble), if there was no mechanical malfunction the only apparent obvious reason for the lead heli to have crashed into the forested mountainside is that the pilot suicided himself in what was a planned assassination.
And the instruction for the other helis to essentially fly out of view might have been so that neither of the other pilots would see that he just flew at full speed straight into the ground. (But the black box should reveal more details of all this, of course.)
Just sayin'. I'd be very interested to hear if anyone else, anywhere, has suggested this.
The counter-argument, of course, is that if the sudden onset of thick clouds was unforeseen, this whole incident could hardly have been planned that way.

Mystery surrounds helicopter crash: coincidence or sabotage in Raisi’s Death?
On Monday, Iranian officials confirmed that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and every other passenger were killed when the helicopter they were traveling in crashed in the mountainous northwestern region of Iran.
“You had three helicopters flying in a row, one all of a sudden drops out. No mayday. No nothing. And if it was due to foggy conditions, how did the other two get through okay? But not the president's?” Michael Maloof, a retired senior security policy analyst asked the hosts of Sputnik’s The Critical Hour, referring to Raisi’s untimely death.
An Israeli official reportedly told US media that it was not involved in the Iranian President’s death.
But, as Maloof notes, Israel has a history of alleged clandestine operations inside of Iran, including the bombing of pipelines, the murder of nuclear scientists and the recent response from Israel to an Iranian attack which Iran says was carried out from within its territory.
“[The attack by Israel on Iran] was also a very meager response, but I think that this was all planned for something much larger, something like this,” Maloof speculated.
Maloof concluded that if it is revealed that Israel was involved, the response will be significant “You saw what the reaction was when the Israelis hit the Iranian consulate in Syria… for the first time, Iran displayed that it could strike Israel directly. If this helicopter crash indeed was purposeful and it could link back to Israel, I think you’re going to see a very major response.”

Iranians ‘better off’ without Raisi – Blinken
The US secretary of state has claimed it is good that the late president can no longer commit “horrible acts”
https://www.rt.com/news/598018-blinken-iran-better-off-raisi/
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has claimed Iranians are “probably better off” without President Ebrahim Raisi, who was killed along with several other senior officials in a helicopter crash on Sunday. The US diplomat made the remarks while defending his department for offering its condolences over Raisi’s death, arguing it was merely a formality.
The State Department had expressed its “official condolences” in a brief statement on Monday, while reaffirming Washington’s “support for the Iranian people and their struggle for human rights and fundamental freedoms.”
Blinken was grilled about the statement during a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on Tuesday, when Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) claimed it was “shocking” that the administration would mourn a “sworn enemy of the free world.”
“We expressed official condolences as we’ve done when countries – adversaries, enemies or not – have lost leaders,” Blinken explained. “It changes nothing about the fact that Mr. Raisi was engaged in reprehensible conduct, including repressing his own people for many years.”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) pressed Blinken further, asking whether the top US diplomat believed “the world is better today now that Raisi is dead.”
Given the horrible acts that he engaged in, both as a judge and as president, to the extent that he can no longer engage in them, yes, the Iranian people are probably better off,” Blinken replied.
Raisi and several other senior Iranian officials, including Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, were killed on Sunday when the helicopter they were traveling in went down in the mountainous East Azerbaijan province in northwest Iran. After more than ten hours of searching – hampered by fog and rain – the president and his entourage were found and confirmed dead.
Iran has announced it will hold a presidential election on June 28. Vice President Mohammad Mokhber has taken on the role of acting president following Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s approval on Monday.

Kremlin reacts to Blinken’s claim Iranians are ‘better off’ after president’s deathr
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has said he finds it hard to believe that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken would publicly say the Iranian people are “better off” after the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.
The top US diplomat made the comment earlier this week during a grilling by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee over the reaction of his department and the UN to the deadly accident on Sunday.
Peskov was asked about the remark on Wednesday and said he would need to see the original of Blinken’s words, since he found reports about them implausible. He said he doubted that “a high-ranking official of a nation of the US’ stature could make, diplomatically speaking, such an awkward statement.”
Such a remark would be “insulting to the entire people” of Iran, the Kremlin spokesman added.
The US Department of State issued a formal statement of condolence over Raisi’s death, which some Republican lawmakers called inappropriate, considering that Washington brands Iran and its government an “enemy of the free world,” as Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyoming) put it.
Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) demanded that Blinken clarify whether he believed that the world was “better now today that Raisi is dead.” The secretary responded that “the Iranian people are probably better off,” since the deceased president cannot pursue his “horrible” policies anymore.
”We are certainly not mourning his death,” Blinken stressed, when asked about the UN observing official mourning for Raisi at its headquarters in New York.
The Iranian president was killed alongside Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and senior regional officials, after his helicopter went down in mountainous East Azerbaijan province in northwest Iran. Tehran has scheduled a new presidential election for June 28. Vice President Mohammad Mokhber assumed presidential powers on Monday, after Raisi’s death was confirmed.

Candidates will then be screened by the Guardian Council (a 12-member body made up of six clerics and six lawyers) and those who are not suitable for the office of President will be disqualified.
Regardless of who wins the presidential election, the Supreme Leader will have a veto on important foreign policy issues, which means that Iran will continue to pursue the same foreign policy that was pursued under President Raisi.

The rest belonged to communist organisations such as the Tudeh Party of Iran and the Iranian People's Fedaian Organisation (Majority), which were aligned with the Soviet Union
Today, all three organisations have taken refuge in the West, with the MKO still active and with large bases in Europe and the US

10 Things You Should Know About Iran’s New President
Who is reformist Masoud Pezeshkian? An introduction from Zeteo.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has a new president.
After Ebrahim Raisi, an arch-conservative elected to the presidency in 2021, was killed in a helicopter crash in May, Iran had to call a snap election.
The winner? Sixty-nine-year-old reformist candidate Masoud Pezeshkian.
So, as tensions continue increase across the Middle East, and with Iran-U.S. relations at a low point, here are 10 things you should know about the Islamic Republic’s new president.
1. Pezeshkian was one of only six candidates approved to run for president by Iran’s Guardian Council, which supervises the country’s elections, and the only reformist candidate among them.
In Friday’s run-off, he defeated conservative hardliner Saeed Jalili, 53.7% to 44.3%. (Eighty people had tried to run for president but almost all of them were blocked by the Council, including former Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.)
2. While his late predecessor Raisi was a trained cleric, Pezeshkian is a medical doctor - a heart surgeon, in fact. His political career began when he was appointed deputy health minister (1997-2001) and then health minister (2001-2005) in the government of the last reformist Iranian president Mohammad Khatami. He went on to become a five-term member of Iran’s parliament and a deputy speaker.
3. The new president takes a more liberal line on the enforcement of the compulsory headscarf in Iran. “If we want to ‘force’ hijab in the country,” he has said, “I don't think we will get anywhere.” After the death of Mahsa Amini in 2022, Pezeshkian wrote that it was “unacceptable in the Islamic Republic to arrest a girl for her hijab and then hand over her dead body to her family.”
4. Pezeshkian’s campaign slogan is “For Iran,” which is believed to be a not-so-subtle reference to the popular anthem supporting the 2022 Mahsa Amini protests called “Baraye”, or “For.” Shervin Hajipour, the Grammy Awarding-winning Iranian singer-songwriter behind “Baraye,” was sentenced to more than three years in prison in March for “propaganda against the system” and “encouraging people to protest.”
5. The new president says he wants better relations with the West and the United States, in particular, and seems to also want a return to the nuclear deal that Barack Obama signed, Donald Trump tore up, and Joe Biden has refused to resurrect. Pezeshkian even deployed former Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif, one of the architects of the deal, as a surrogate on the campaign trail.
6. Pezeshkian, nevertheless, like most Iranian politicians, has a long history of denouncing the United States (aka “The Great Satan”). In 2019, when Iran shot down an American drone, Pezeshkian said “the real terrorist is America” and described the targeting of the drone as "a strong punch in the mouths of the leaders of criminal America.”
7. Pezeshkian, a reformist, isn’t shy about defending the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, or IRGC, which has huge power and influence inside of Iran (and was controversially designated a foreign terrorist organization by the Trump administration). The Iran-Iraq War veteran even once wore an IRGC military uniform in parliament as a show of support for the organization, which he says is “different” to what it was in the past.
8. Persians are the ethnic majority in Iran, but Pezeshkian is the son of an Azeri father and a Kurdish mother, and fluent in both Azeri and Kurdish. "I am not voting for Dr Pezeshkian because I am a Turk,” one Azeri voter told IranWire, “but because if he is elected, he will be the president of the oppressed and discriminated minority of this country.”
9. Like President Joe Biden, who lost his wife and young daughter in a car crash in 1972, the new Iranian president also lost his wife and young daughter in a car crash in 1994. Unlike Biden, however, Pezeshkian “never remarried and raised his remaining two sons and a daughter alone.”
10. Pezeshkian may have won his race thanks to a late surge in voter turnout. The first round of the election saw the lowest turnout in the history of the Islamic Republic, just 40%. But on Friday, in the run-off, it bumped up to around 50%.
For some Iranians, reported the Washington Post, “refusing to vote is an act of opposition in a country that quells political protests with violent force.”
Others have embraced political apathy because of the failure of multiple presidents from across the political spectrum to effect social or economic change.
Pezeshkian has acknowledged the challenge ahead. “I will do everything possible to look at those who were not seen by the powerful and whose voices are not heard,” he told supporters earlier this week.
But what does “everything possible” look like for an elected Iranian president inside of a political system where most of the power remains in the hands of an unelected Supreme Leader, Ayatullah Ali Khamenei?
Can the Islamic Republic’s first reformist president for 19 years offer real hope or change to almost 90 million Iranians, more than half of whom are under the age of 30? That remains to be seen. And how will the United States respond to an Iranian leader who wants to mend ties with the West?

Well.. Not making promises during the campaign but making some when elected, most surely promising to keep future promises, is a way that many “Western” “politicians” might gain inspiration from.
“We are “under” the feet of the beloved Iranian people” as the Persian expression goes (with reference to veneration extended to kings, holy men and the beloved), subtly including in this “we” the Council and even the Supreme Leader (Khâmeneî), promises interesting events..
Azeri and Kurdi, yes, but the name Pezeshkian, of this cardiologist turned politician, is pure Persian and means “from a family of medical doctors”. Quite a program, also considering that Iran was one of the first victims of the Covid “virus” (China --> Iran --> Lombardy/Italy and New York – remember?).
May the Divine inspire you, President Pezeshkian.
