A few years ago I vowed to myself I would do one nice thing for someone every day or at least once a week. I succeeded for a while but like so many things in life I let it slide out of sight and eventually out of mind. It had slipped so far from my mind that I had forgotten all about it until I came across this note (I had nothing to do with it) that one camper left for another.

Yes, I get it, it's a bit parochial and may even be considered somewhat dull but the effects it has on people and more importantly, yourself are astounding. I also understand that in the grand scheme of things like wars in Europe, and the Middle East and divisive politics all over the globe it may not seem like much but it is at least something actionable that will genuinely make a difference in some people's lives.

I am going to get back on track and thought it might be interesting if others are already doing something like this they may tell us about it or it might even motivate some people to get started doing something similar. This is simply an effort to get back to basics. It you're willing to share have at it.

I discovered a letter that was sent to my parents from Mr. Myron J. Francis, who was my 6th grade teacher. I didn't know about the letter nor the secret hiding place. I inherited the desk when my parents moved across country to California in 1973. It was three years later, I had an inner knowing to "pull here". There it was in one of the two secret compartments.

In 1995, I had an urge to contact Mr. Francis. His wife answered the phone. I gave my name and I explained that I was a student of his in 1962-3. Mr. Francis came on the line and I nervously began, “You probably don’t remember me but…” He interrupted and said, “I remember you, Paula. You had blonde hair and a beautiful smile…”.

Mr. Francis went on to become Superintendent of Schools in Rhode Island, and a school was named in his honor. I’m glad I touched base with him before he passed.

~ Mr. Francis lives on through my professional career and personal life.

Oui très bien 🤩 c’est important de le faire pour les autres, on le fait aussi pour soi. En réalité on le fait pour soi, lorsqu’on est conscient que ça va servir à quelque chose 👽

Translation(s):

Yes, very well. It's important to do it for others, we also do it for ourselves. In reality, we do it for ourselves, when we're aware that it's going to serve a purpose. (i.e, it will be useful for something.)

Yes, it's important to do it for others, but we also do it for ourselves. In fact, we do it for ourselves, when we're aware that it's going to serve a purpose.
