The Sarco suicide pod has been used for the first time, its creators have confirmed, with an American woman aged 64 believed to be the first person to have died in the device 'under a canopy of trees' in Switzerland.

Police in northern Switzerland said that several people were detained on Monday, and that prosecutors had opened an investigation on suspicion of incitement and accessory to suicide.

The 'Sarco' suicide capsule is designed to allow a person inside to push a button that injects nitrogen gas into the sealed chamber, according to its creators. The person is then supposed to fall asleep and die by suffocation in a few minutes.

It seems like this would be a much better way to handle those people who have been given the death penalty.

If It is presented as something normal every depressed individual will possibly use it not taking into account that it's just a phase.

Not all suicidal people are terminally ill - why would they rather not be helped in another way. This is obviously the creation of the same eugenicists who push us various contents and products to lead us to a depressed state and then in the end offer a solution in the form of that death capsule. Is that okay?

Hi Orph. I think your suggestion is on topic. Suicide is the lede, but this manner of death is the substance of this story.

Iirc, Nitrogen has been used to dry-drown critters in the food industry. I recall it was male chicken babies/chicks, and the story made it sound humane.

If it is humane, it seems good for what you propose. Shouldn’t be too hard to science it, given an industry scale prior database, and probably some science on that too.

Helium is another of probably a bunch of commercially available gases that could do the same thing. In a HS chemistry class, we were invited to use Helium to make funny high pitched words (for science!). I drew a big breath, and just held it. I woke up still standing, with my teacher (a head shorter, but fit) steadying me, his arms around me. I recall coming to, from a dream where I was struggling with someone who was trying to take several balloons from me. I heard talk that my face was blue lol. Teacher dismissed the the class right then, early. Funny to me since, is that that event was not mentioned ever afterward. But I have to believe that he rethought his lesson plans.

Think of confined-spaces hazards in industry. Heavily regulated and trained. I had a housemate who was fired from a big petrochemical plant for going back into a defined confined space, for his radio which he had forgot, after the shift and therefore the permission had ended.

Suicidal people, such as suicidal teens, are often very sensitive people who are suffering a temporary situation but do not know it is temporary or it seems too excruciating to go through. Also, depression or nervous break down is a temporary sign of spiritual development.

Once through suicidal thoughts however, they are excelkent empaths able to detect misery, cruelty, or emotional upheaval and wanting to help. Often understanding that they must resist or banish from their life psychopatic/narcissistic people. Guess what: those in power that are psychopaths have much less hold on them. Hence, why to treat them, just encourage them to suicide.

As for medically assisted suicide, they cost money to keep alive anyhow. Do not stop them, encourage suicide - the perfect brew of psychopaths. And we, Canadians, are pushed/trained to see it as compassion.

you raise some valid points, but if what we are in the unknown grand scheme of things living in the ultimate hologram of a synthetic universe does it truly matter? like ending a video game and restarting it at a previously saved level. My dad came to see me about 6 months after passing away. I was with him when he passed. He asked me to show him how he died because he was so drugged that he did not lived his death. He needed to know in order to pursue whatever he was at. So I showed him in a kind of virtual slide show, from my memory, how he died. What about ghose who have nobody conscious enough to be asked?

My dad returned about 3 months later, peacefully sitting projecting so much love on me, all the cells of my being bathing in love. I never saw him again. I think he could go his path.

Gigi Young said something that shocked me in a good way, she said we are addicted to the earth and its drama, this is why we always come back (reincarnate). This makes sense, we have been caught in our own creation and have to learn to get out of addiction. This is done in full consciousness to the end like for any addiction. No suicidal escape.

From euthanasia to assisted suicide... Not so much a slippery-slope as jumping off a cliff

I have been observing the suicidal-turn of Western culture for considerably more than a decade. Its beginnings lie back many decades ago, while I was still a medical student.



At that time, the issue was called euthanasia, and was focused upon people whose suffering was regarded as severe and intractable, and who were incapable of killing themselves - and their Right to have somebody-else kill them.

More recently, there was a focus on dying "with dignity" - which meant without suffering; so that the debate expanded to include people who could kill themselves - but apparently only in ways that would cause them pain or suffering. The Right being requested was for somebody-else to kill such people pain-lessly, instead of them killing-themselves pain-fully.

Now, we call it "assisted suicide"; and have reached the point where there is no question of "need", but instead the Right demanded is to be killed pleasantly by somebody-else. With the picture painted of a happy death by drowsing off into permanent sleep while outdoors in some beauty spot - such as a National Park.



When the question of creating a bureaucratic system for legally allowing some people deliberately to kill other people; there were warnings that this was morally a slippery-slope.

Well, if we examine the rationale behind such proposals, and the speed with which the Right to be killed has expanded from a handful of people per nation to... everybody; the issue has turned-out to be more like jumping off a cliff from strict-morality and unfortunate necessity, plummeting down into pure amoral (i.e. immoral) convenience and consumer choice.

The reason for allowing legalized murder has gone from being a last-ditch and desperate remedy for those terminally ill or agonizingly suffering, to a lifestyle preference.



This is one of those (many) situations in which a top-down strategy meets mass acceptance; because in our Godless materialistic society, the bottom-line for values, for morals, for laws is simply utilitarian human psychology - that is, what people want, what makes people happy, what makes them feel less miserable...

And this is a matter of inference, unsupportable assertion, and subjective opinion. A situation in which the apparatus of propaganda and ideology has the greatest scope; and where the prevalent sins of this age - fear, cowardice, demotivation, resentment, dishonesty and (most of all) despair - can operate freely and without trammel.

Unless the trends reverse (and encouraged by deliberately engineered war, civil violence, disease and starvation); we will surely soon be seeing suicide become a publicly explicit and media-favoured lifestyle strategy; with the Western bureaucracies providing whatever necessary facilities.

The Sarco, short for sarcophagus, is a 3D-printed capsule, designed to be operated by one person who can enter the coffin-like enclosure, lie down and press a button. The device then rapidly decreases the oxygen level and pumps in nitrogen, resulting in the user’s death by hypoxia.

According to a statement published by the Schaffhausen police department, the capsule was illegally deployed in the woods of the Merishausen municipality on Monday. Prosecutors have launched criminal proceedings against several people suspected of “inducing and aiding and abetting suicide.”

A spokesman for the Last Resort group, which is behind the use of the pod, has explained that the device was used on a 64-year-old American woman who had been suffering from a severely compromised immune system. He added that the woman had made an audio recording stating her wish to die, and passed a psychiatric evaluation prior to ending her life.

The spokesperson also stated that a total of four people have been arrested since the capsule was deployed – the company’s co-president Florian Willet, along with a Dutch journalist and two Swiss nationals. He added that Willet was the only person present when the woman ended her life.

In an official statement by The Last Resort, Willet described the death of the American woman as “peaceful, fast and dignified.”

Philip Nitschke, the inventor of the Sarco pod, who observed the woman’s death from Germany via a monitor, has told Dutch media that the process “went well,” adding that “it looked exactly as we expected.”

“When she got into the Sarco, she immediately pressed the button. She didn’t say anything. She really wanted to die,” the Australian suicide activist and president of the Exit International pro-euthanasia group said.

Switzerland is one of the few countries in the world where assisted suicide is legalized but only under specific conditions. In July, the Swiss government explicitly banned the use of the Sarco pod citing a lack of reliable information regarding the method being used. Prosecutors warned Exit Switzerland that if the device was used it could lead to “serious legal consequences” and result in prison sentences of up to five years.

Here is a CNN article about the recent (2nd time only in US, both in Alabama) use of Nitrogen gas for judicial execution, and the controversy over whether it is humane.

Proponents say it is peaceful and quick, with unconsciousness being the first effect, while opponents claim that the minutes of writhing, struggling against restraints, and trembling, indicate severe (and implied conscious) suffering.

If the opponents are right, not a good look for this Sarco Pod to be basically a confining space. Can the user open the door after hitting the go-button? Why not just rent a mask and a chair, and collect production and administrative fees?


The process of death by nitrogen gas involves forcing an inmate to inhale 100% nitrogen gas, depriving them of the oxygen needed to survive. But death by nitrogen gas has been criticized as experts have said it could lead to excessive pain or even torture.

During Smith’s execution earlier this year, he appeared conscious for “several minutes,” and for two minutes after that, he “shook and writhed on a gurney,” according to the media witness report.

That was followed by several minutes of deep breathing before his breath began slowing “until it was no longer perceptible for media witnesses,” the media witness report said.

“Clearly it was not the instant, painless death that they promised,” Dr. Jonathan Groner, a professor of surgery at The Ohio State University College of Medicine told CNN last week. “There’s a lot of suggestion that it wasn’t good, wasn’t pleasant.”

United Nations experts “unequivocally condemned” Smith’s execution and the use of nitrogen gas inhalation, saying in a statement it “was nothing short of State-sanctioned torture.”

“The use, for the first time in humans and on an experimental basis, of a method of execution that has been shown to cause suffering in animals is simply outrageous,” the UN experts said.

The problem with ‘assisted suicide’ is : Are you truly suiciding or are you rather suicided. A Canadian doctor has been arrested recently for having suicided someone in terminal phase who had not required assisted suicide.

I am for maximum pain relief here, but against suicide even if assisted legally. This may easily lead to euthanasia if governments deem it necessary, and hidden murder as well. And I am not sure of the soul development impact either.
