🚨Relief effort update - yes it is a long post, but please read.

I want to start off by explaining how strong the Appalachia people are, because the scale of devastation is truly bizarre.

We have had team members on the ground reach some of the most rural places that havent seen a single "agency" since this has all happened.

Our crews have reached people whose homes no longer exist, who have lost loved ones and who have nothing but the clothes on their backs, people completely cut off from the outside world.

That being said, the common theme through every one of these interactions, is that the citizens who live in these communities still have their heads held high and have rolled up their sleeves and begun the process of trying to clean the FEET thick layer of mud covering everything to see what is even left to salvage.

These people are "mountain tough" and their resolve is unbreakable, but they need our help, AS A COUNTRY.

One of our forward crew member on the ground, providing updates on road conditions into towns that are cut off and need help, has hiked into several places that have been neglected.

The pictures i include in this post are of the area in and surrounding the Green Mountain area.

The level of destruction depicted in the photos and videos do not do the scope of the damage justice, but you can tell from the imagery, that this situation is not only challenging, but dire. Critical infrastructure is completely decimated in most of these places and will take months if not longer to repair or rebuild.

We have coordinated a group of Doctors that will be bringing life saving medical supplies, well above and beyond basic first aid needs. They will be traveling by helicopter to areas that are inaccessible by vehicle to give that life saving aid.

We have been able to get supplies into the remote town of Marshall, where their homes have been either damaged by the flood waters to the point of being unlivable or just completely deleted from the earth.

Talking with these people, they have concerns for the future, and not just the coming days or weeks, but in the near future as winter creeps into the area.

As that happens, the challenges they are presented with become exponentially more difficult and so much more dire.

From the difficulty of building temporary housing to the logistics and availability of supplies to rebuild, the geographical location of this devastation is creating more problems to overcome than what most would associate with "hurricane damage".

As the country descends on Asheville, supplies and help has become bountiful there and our operations will begin to shift further into the mountains to help those that have not had help.

Supply needs are changing rapidly, and as they do we are having to pivot on what we are procuring to bring into the affected areas.

I call on the people of this country to help us help these people. They have been largely neglected and are deserving of our compassion and help in any way that we can deliver it.

I can't speak for the government and what they are or aren't doing, but i can speak for our efforts.

We are just everyday citizens, husbands, wives, sons and daughters, standing together to help those in need.

We will not stop, until our mission is complete.

Sadly this doesn't surprise me as I'm sure many feel the same as I do.

This is just another action done by design. Treat the loyal Americans like garbage and make enemies out of them and pamper the illegal migrants to gain their support and loyalty.

This is all reaching a boiling point, a breaking point. They've got the solution to our violent reaction, of that be sure. I absolutely love the people there who are defying the so called authorities and helping in whatever way they can, in the same way the local Hawaiians did in Lahaina, I think we would all do the same if we were there. I'm only voicing my opinion because I think we need to be very careful how we deal with the authorities from now on, especially in disaster areas like this. It feels like a grand bait and switch, or maybe just a grand mouse trap, don't take the bait. "Wise like serpents" right?

So my internet just came back today (thank you Skyrunner! y'all rock).. I'm in the heart of this disaster and I'm so darn lucky, relatively unscathed. I spent two days putting the creek ford back together moving rocks by hand but I can get out and still drive to civilization. For now! I live down one of those dark hollers and there's only one road out and it's been severely undercut. So I'm concerned that a future rain could cut me off. Otherwise I have off grid solar power and spring water, so all good.

I'm just now trying to wrap my head around the scale and scope of this disaster. It's going to take years and billions of $. I drove through Old Fort today, heartbreaking. I could walk to Chimney Rock from my house, it's a difficult hike, overnighter through the woods, I've done it before.

I've seen lots of helicopters flying overhead; Black Hawks, Chinooks and smaller craft. I've even seen a mid-flight refueling; large heavy lift aircraft refueling a helicopter.

I was in Lake Lure on a lovely day this past spring, walking the dog, enjoying the flowering bridge and surroundings, thinking I'm so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place. Probably gone now. We'll bounce back, us mountain folk are tough critters.

It's very disturbing the lack of caring and sympathy they have for the hundreds of thousand of severely affected victims of this disaster, yet, what is even more disturbing is the contempt they have for all of the American people and this country.

I've got a very bad feeling about all of this. I personally think this hurricane event is a trigger point for a series of events and time is short. I would suggest loudly that everyone should get prepared in all ways that they possibly can for "hard times".

There's a large portion of the SE right now that is decimated with thousands of people in big trouble, especially with winter creeping in fast. Another hurricane is about to hit Florida by the end of this coming week. They do not care about human life which is beyond obvious and it wouldn't surprise me it they do something insane like destroying a huge city like NYC and blame Iran or Russia.

Another thing that highly concerns me is where did those several million of fighting age male illegal immigrants go?????? Its like this country has been invaded by a huge army that hate this country and are hiding out right now just waiting for orders. This storm just took out a huge number of patriots who would easily be willing to help defend this country, the ones that did survive are now decimated and are knocked down to their knees and trying to save themselves and their families right now, they are basically "contained".

Like I said, I have an awful feeling right now. I think there's going to be another huge event soon. Like very soon, within days, not weeks.

We saw an (obviously military) large 6 propeller cargo plane doing what we thought was towing a small helicopter with a visible tow-line flying over our house, then later, it returned without the helicopter.

My wife and I live close to the Swannanoa "Township" that was decimated by the Swannanoa River. This small community just East of Asheville is reporting 100's missing. That is a good percentage of their population that lived in trailer parks and small homes along the river. Fortunately for us we are in a 20-home development 500' above the river, and physically only experienced about a dozen trees across our road that we cleared. We did lose power and water for our homes and well pumps for a week. Now we are only missing cell service, and internet, needed to stay in touch with family in the devastated areas below.

Once they cleared one lane of the partially washed-out road off our mountain, I drove down to buy a discounted Starlink system. Home Depot had the Starlink for $300, reduced from $500. But I decided to drive a bit further to Best Buy in case I ever needed Geek support. Well, I am done with Best Buy forever now. Besides their woke DEI employee advancement program, no white males allowed, they are price gouging on the Starlink Sytems that Musk ordered to be sold for $300. Best Buy told me they are selling them for the full price of $500.

I want to thank the power crew from Canada for getting our power back on so quickly, 7 days, when so many other areas are still powerless.

More than 1,500 North Carolina National Guard personnel at work in Western NC are being supported by soldiers from the 18th Airborne Corps headquartered at Fort Liberty. Those soldiers are partnered with NCDOT to assist in clearing roads and with county emergency managers in distributing commodities. Soldiers are also assisting with search and rescue, and air traffic control - managing the large number of aircraft flying relief missions over western counties.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is assisting with assessing water and wastewater plants and dams

More than $27 million FEMA Individual Assistance funds have been paid so far to Western NC disaster survivors and more than 83,000 people have registered for Individual Assistance. Nearly 1,400 people are now housed in hotels through FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance.

More than 755 FEMA personnel are on the ground assisting in the western North Carolina relief effort. In addition to search and rescue and providing commodities, they are meeting with disaster survivors in shelters and neighborhoods to provide rapid access to relief resources. They can be identified by their FEMA logo apparel and federal government identification.

More than 1,100 responders from 34 states are supporting response and recovery efforts through the Emergency Management Assistance Compact (EMAC). This includes public health nurses, emergency management teams supporting local governments, veterinarians, teams with search dogs and more.

“Resources from around the nation are at work helping Western North Carolina’s storm response and recovery,” said Governor Roy Cooper. “We are grateful for assistance that’s supporting the thousands of our North Carolina responders.”

Governor Cooper issued an executive order that increases the capacity of the healthcare workforce to respond to Helene by making it easier for healthcare professionals licensed in other states, recent retirees, and others with necessary skills to assist with North Carolina’s response and recovery. In addition, the order authorizes the State Health Director to issue standing orders for emergency medications and authorizes the Department of Health and Human Services to modify or waive fees for replacement of vital records.

Beware of Misinformation

North Carolina Emergency Management and local officials are cautioning the public about false Helene reports and misinformation being shared on social media. NCEM has launched a fact versus rumor response webpage to provide factual information in the wake of this storm. FEMA is also maintaining a rumor response webpage.

Food, Water and Commodity Points of Distribution

Efforts continue to provide food, water and basic necessities to residents in affected communities, utilizing both ground resources and air drops from the NC National Guard. More than 97,000 hot meals have been prepared and served by mobile kitchens and another 25,000 are expected to be served today.

Food, water and commodity points of distribution have been opened throughout western North Carolina. For information on these sites in your community, visit your local emergency management and local government social media and websites or visit ncdps.gov/Helene.

Points of distribution for commodities have been established in each impacted county. Many of these locations are also providing free public Wi-Fi for area residents. Seek information from local governments for the most up-to-date location in your county.

Search and Rescue Operations

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in Western North Carolina. A total of 53 search and rescue teams from North Carolina and beyond, consisting of more than 1600 personnel have conducted search and rescue operations during this event. Search and rescue teams have interacted with over 5400 people, including assists, evacuations and rescues.

Road Closures

Travel remains dangerous, with approximately 650 roads closed as of Saturday morning. As connectivity and reporting measures improve, this number may increase. NCDOT is asking people to refrain from unnecessary travel to or in Western North Carolina. Road access is limited to local and hurricane response traffic as crews work to restore critical routes and access to communities isolated by damage. First responders also want to keep the roads as clear as possible to help ensure they may carry out all response missions. NCDOT has posted at ncdot.gov an interstate detour map for travelers to avoid western N.C. NCDOT is currently using the following resources to assist with the recovery process:

900 trucks, graders & backhoes/loaders
5,000 barricades & signs

North Carolina National Guard and Military Response

Gov. Cooper has activated more than 1,500 North Carolina National Guard soldiers and airmen to both conduct search and rescue operations and deliver critical supplies to Western North Carolina. As of Saturday, those troops had moved 3.5 million pounds of commodities. National Guard and military personnel from NC and other states are operating 50 helicopters, and more than 400 specialized vehicles in Western North Carolina to facilitate these missions.

President Biden approved Governor Cooper’s request for active-duty military personnel and equipment to support ongoing operations in Western North Carolina.

Due to dangerous road conditions, and the need to maintain open routes for emergency operations, travel to Western North Carolina is strongly discouraged. Instead, consider the following options for donations and volunteer opportunities:

Major Disaster Declaration and FEMA Assistance

More than $28 million FEMA Individual Assistance funds have been paid so far to Western NC homeowners and renters and more than 70,000 people have registered for Individual Assistance. Nearly 1,400 people are now housed in hotels through FEMA’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance.

The Major Disaster Declaration requested by Governor Cooper and granted by President Biden now includes 27 North Carolina counties and the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, with this week’s addition of Mecklenburg and Swain counties. This declaration paves the way for Public Assistance to help our hard-hit local governments, in addition to Individual Assistance for homeowners and renters. On Wednesday, President Biden announced the approval of 100% FEMA reimbursement for six months, a significant funding commitment from the federal government.

FEMA may be able to help with serious needs, displacement, temporary lodging, basic home repair costs, personal property loss or other disaster-caused needs. Incredible Story of Helene Rescue🚨

“Yesterday. Chrissy and I located a Young girl and a 6 DAY OLD BABY in Lake Lure.

Who had JUST given birth.

During the storm.

Alone.

(Via seeing an old man who waved at us with his dog who also needed dog food, which I happened to have...)

We were her first contact.

Before I left for our run (my car was water and med kits) I saw there was extra room. I could have loaded anything but for some reason I chose to load it down with baby supplies. Diapers, wipes, formula, bottles etc.

I had no idea I was going to actually need that stuff in real time. I just felt like I needed to load it in there. So I did. And we found the ONE person who needed it... urgently. Because she had 1 pre-made bottle left from her shower.

That....I can't begin to describe what that was like.

I knew I was the only one that knew exactly where she was or how to get to her...so...

Today my mission was to take more supplies to her, but in reality, to convince her come with me. It took some time. She was scared. The water/mud was knee or waist deep, around her house.

I told her that yes, it was deep, but we would make it and to just trust me. Just give me the baby. So, I held baby E and strapped my backpack tight (pulled straps tight so momma could hold onto me) to my back and told momma to hold on to me and just keep going. If we got stuck we could get out.

We did.

As we speak, "N.H. & Baby E." have been extracted. I took them to a church, relatively close to her, to recieve medical care and be ruinited with her loved ones.

I am still trying to process it.

Her boyfriend is still missing.

It's gonna take me a minute.

Like, I'm okay...I'm safe...but I'm definitely traumatized.

But they're okay. They're alive. They're safe. And that's all that matters.

Good luck you two. I'll always remember you.

You won't find this video anywhere else on Twitter, unfortunately - it's too cluttered with people claiming lasers control the weather or how FEMA is bulldozing towns or stealing pets and various other acts of misinformation. But this is a real take of a real hero (and I don't use that term lightly) doing real things and working WITH agencies instead of trying to act against them for political means like the Grifter Inc. class that's taken over the air. He goes into why the DoT has roads blocked off (news flash, Twitter: It's not to steal land or kill people - it's to rebuild roads or because water is getting under the roads and making them unsafe), the triumph of the human spirit, how community is able to be nimble in the initial phases of disaster recovery. His wife (a vet) talks about some of the efforts she's been able to help with for our non-human friends....all of it. You could write a movie script off this recap.

It's not getting much attention but many many people lost horses, cows and all kinds of livestock. The ones that made it through the floods etc now have little to nothing to eat and are threatened with starvation.

I'm here in Eastern North Georgia just on the edge of all the damage and am hearing all kinds of unbelievable first hand on the ground stories, a lot is really hard to comprehend.

I heard from a builder that I work for in Cashiers today that I haven't heard from since the storm hit and he somehow made it to his sons house in Asheville last week to check on him. His sons house and property are pretty damaged but they are ok. He couldn't even explain to me what he seen traveling there and back it was so bad. I'm going to Cashiers tomorrow to try to finish up a job I'm doing for him and hopefully hear how he actually made it to Asheville last week, I know that had to be a dangerous, stressful, and heartbreaking ride. I'm honestly surprised he actually made it there due to the road conditions and the news saying no way in and no way out of Asheville.

He told me they just got power on at his place in Cashiers NC 2 days ago. So even the places outside of the huge perimeter of massive destruction, they got hammered real good too. The true scope of the actual disaster area is so large, no other disaster that I can think of compares to this, other than what many went through in WW2 in other countries.

With winter and cold weather moving in, huge numbers of people are in big trouble and facing changing dynamics and new and dangerous challenges. It's already getting cold there at night in most areas, especially in higher elevations.

Yes of course if any fed comes around you that doesn't mean anything. You don't have to answer to him. Unless he can establish jurisdiction you tell him to leave you alone.

But that is the number one way *any* kind of agent can get you to do whatever they want. If they just ask like a normal person and you do it, that's it.

He can't just take your stuff and he better not block the road either. But if it is easy for them then of course they will. The most reassuring thing I was told is that none of the dairies would be on a "store scale". So there aren't vast herds of anything that I know of, but, yes, definitely small groups throughout it all.

She said

I worked all day in Cashiers NC today and all is back to normal there for the most part. I didn't cover much area but they seemed to have dodged a bullet so to speak there, and in Highlands, NC.
I noticed several trees that had been downed and cleaned up, one little avalanche spot just south of Highlands.
Just east of there is where the real damage and destruction begins.

While this disaster here and now Hurricane Milton barreling down on Florida it seems the SE is under a massive weather assault.

If you look towards Wyoming and Montana, they are dealing with some of the largest wildfires in recorded history. Evacuations are happening in several places and people are being faced with losing everything they own there to. Complete towns right now are being threatened of being completely turned to ashes, they cannot get many of the fires under control.

Then if you look at everywhere else across the country you have most everyone dealing with extremely high food and gas prices, many not being able to pay rent or mortgages, exploding crime rates, being infiltrated with illegal immigrants, etc etc etc.

I'm sorry folks but if you ask my opinion, I can easily say war has been declared on the American people. Sure these may be some natural disasters happening, but, are they really natural? Everything else happening is surely man-made like inflation, illegal alien crisis, division crisis, etc etc etc., we are facing an assault so big and now becoming so obvious most can't believe it nor would admit to it. Many have just simply adapted and adjusted, but it will reach a breaking point regardless.

Be careful though....if you speak out about it you're likely to be accused of being a racist, cancelled, demonized, and destroyed. (or just simply jailed).

We are about to hit a breaking point in my opinion, especially when winter sets in and stories of numerous people starving and freezing to death start to circulate. (If something worse doesn't happen before then to us).

I know for a fact tensions are high and things are close to reaching a breaking point in certain particular areas of these disaster zones here in the Appalachian mountains. Someone's bound to lose their temper soon and things can get real ugly real fast. There's still areas that haven't even been supplied yet with basic needs, and these people are getting scared and desperate to say the least. There's tons of good people doing good things right now, but there's also small pockets of just downright bad people that don't care and are desperate. More simply put, there's a huge number of people in a huge area dealing with a somewhat impossible situation, and for many it won't get much better than it is right now for a very long time. Some people snap when they lose hope or have nothing to lose.

I can't explain nor do I really know what is exactly happening right now, but I do know in my heart and soul that something isn't right and its rapidly escalating.

Well, there are different entities. The Estate (https://www.npr.org/2024/10/05/nx-s1-5141598/biltmore-estate-hurricane-helene-damaged) was partially damaged. I have no evidence of tunnels, etc., but to my knowledge these are vestibules of what you might call generational satanism. I spent Tuesday outside of Bat Cave, located in the mountains of NC. It’s one of the hardest areas hit by Hurricane Helene 11 days earlier. I spoke to residents that don’t have electricity, internet & cell service. I asked each of them about the help they’ve received from FEMA, the state of NC & others. To a person, they said they’ve yet to see or hear from FEMA or any NC govt official.

I spoke to a man that is helping distribute necessities to his neighbors in the area.

Me: What are you seeing or hearing from FEMA or even from the state government level?

Man: (3 seconds of silence) Do you hear that silence? (Another second of silence) That’s what we’ve heard.

In another area just outside Bat Cave, there sits a sign asking where FEMA is located. At another location, a sign thanks

The responses are all the same, including from road repair workers.

Me: How has it been interacting with the governments and local authorities.

Worker: The local governments have been great. The state and federal governments suck. We haven’t even see FEMA.

Of the seven people I spoke to that reside several miles apart, they all responded the same way and said only “civilians” and some road crews are helping.

America's hospitals are bracing for a shortage of IV fluid, as Hurricane Helene's devastation has forced healthcare company Baxter International -- the top producer of IV fluid -- to shut down production at a critical North Carolina facility.

"The company is working around the clock in close coordination with local, state and federal officials to assess the extent of the damage and implement a plan to bring the plant back online as quickly as possible to help mitigate supply disruption to patients," said Baxter in a statement.

Deerfield, IL-based Baxter alerted hospitals to expect its provision of IV fluid to plummet by 40% from typical levels, according to Dr. Paul Biddinger, the chief preparedness and continuity officer at Boston's Mass General Brigham hospital, who spoke at a Thursday media conference call.

Mass General Brigham is among hospitals that are already implementing measures to make the most of their inventory -- such as urging staff to consider using Gatorade or water in situations where that can fulfill patient hydration needs in comparable fashion to an IV drip. The hospital will also refrain from trashing partially-used bags when patients are relocated to new departments.

“Patients are still getting IV fluids when they need them,” said Biddinger. “We are continuing normal medical services but emphasizing conservation, and we are carefully monitoring this incident to determine how long it may last, how long we may need to conserve, and making sure we identified all areas of our enterprise where services are affected.”

A breached levee was a factor in the flooding of Baxter's plant in Marion, North Carolina, which typically churns out 1.5 million bags a day. Its return to production will be made more difficult by Helen's destruction of bridges in the vicinity. The company said it's unable to set a timeline for the resumption of operations at the facility. Baxter shares fell 2.47% on Thursday, edging up 0.63% in after-hours trading.

Before the Hurricane, Baxter commanded a 60% share of America's IV fluid market. Closely-held B. Braun Medical, which accounted for 23%, is pushing to ramp up its own production, telling NBC News it's focusing on the "most critical products," including large-volume bags of sodium chloride, sterile water and lactated ringers.

That will help, but it won't head off a shortage. “We’re anticipating that there will be major constraints on the U.S. supply of IV fluids as a result of the production outage at Baxter’s North Cove plant,” a Braun Medical spokesman told NBC.

Nor can the U.S. count on tapping European manufacturers because of previously existing global shortages, said Soumi Saha, senior vice president of government affairs at Premier, a group purchasing organization for hospital supplies that serves thousands of medical institutions in the U.S. -- WSJ

News of the pending IV fluid shortage comes just after the Biden-Harris administration ducked a bullet in the form of a short-lived longshoremen strike that closed ports from Maine to Texas. Now, the White House -- and presidential candidate Kamala Harris -- face a rising tide of anger and frustration over its response to Hurricane Helene -- and a crisis in hospitals will only exacerbate that dynamic.

In a map from a few years ago, the area where Helene hit is shown as a "no go" zone. MY area is also part of that zone. I know that wildfires happen where I live. IF a wildfire destroyed Fannin County GA.'s integrity of businesses and houses, we would still owe our mortgages. One of my buddies is on his way back from eastern Tennessee from a drop off point called Anchor Ridge , check out anchorridge.org .He left Friday from here in Michigan with a 20 ft enclosed trailer full of supplies. This is what he told me via phone last night. Teams of men going out daily clearing trees , the 6 man team found 7 dead bodies yesterday , everyday there is a body count.This is only one of many teams. He also was told don't believe anything on the news , there not telling people what's really happening. Many people in the mountains are still wearing the same clothes they had on 10 days ago. With winter coming in the mountains these people are going to need support into the spring, govt help is non existent, Fema not much help either, everything being done is by all volunteers. Eastern side of Ashville is gone. I vacationed up there 5 years ago, that riverbed in the mountains got carved down 30-50 ft in spots. My buddy said they found one building with 20 children in it , all deceased. Were getting more supplies from up here to take down 16 hour drive thru some rough mountain roads. I'm planning on going down towards 2cd halve of next month, taking all my welding machines and cutting stuff to help out for 1-2 weeks. I'm a welder by trade . As we see, since it seems to be well-known that Spruce Pine, Chimney Rock, etc., exist and are attempting to recover, rather than being violated over posse comitatus and so on, that does not affect the more likely dire consequences.

As Thomas Jefferson said, you must not allow this "mortgage" creature to live in the country.

That is the first mistake or basic issue. But it does. There are multiple ways of dealing with it, since an Executive Order could be used for a grace period, amnesty, etc.; or the mortgaging companies could offer favorable terms on their own; or you could be really corrupt and just give the taxpayers' money to the private banks and keep them satisfied.

As almost anyone knows, "Flood Insurance" is not a mandatory component of PMI and is hardly ever purchased by anyone, so the level of risk here is obvious. Insurance is not in a hurry to give its money to Banks.

Everything about the death toll is too late, it's cold data, I'd be more concerned about the danger to the living. Well, I would not dismiss it out of hand. Remember, a couple years ago out here, a few of these militia guys "hunted" the power station, shot several holes into its primary lubricant tank with a .30-06 I think, and killed it.

Despite having a very good idea who this is and their friends in military intelligence, the Sheriff held a prayer vigil with the suspects.

It remains unsolved as far as I know.

In those exact terms, I think its following has slipped below 50%, maybe 40%. The thing is, the bulk of the remainder are still "watching media" 24/7 so to speak, and I'm not sure where this leaves us.

Just as a passive witness, to me it looks like probably half of the linked X posts have something attached to them that does not belong. As you have seen, it now has a self-updater where even the link on this site adds the comments, which are often a dispute of the added material.

I sometimes repeat things that come through social media, in the sense that it comes from people we know, so, I tend to believe something they saw or experienced, which, here, makes me agree that lowlander traffic was turned away. That's as far as I'm willing to go with it. Now, from the people that message us, you know what is unreliable? Exactly, the one coming from a National Security clearance inside that thing that is in Salt Lake City. It's the same thing that you will find on "the internet". Weird huh?

Unfortunately, saying what I say I know, does not extricate me from the same materialistic limitations as experienced by those glued to their nonsense. I wish we had that option. I don't believe that a Land Grab for lithium mining is what is happening here. Here's why;
- there are a lot of very wealthy people that live in the area and there is no way they would let that happen, they would go ballistic
- much of the land in that valley is already a part of the Chimney Rock State Park, the Nature Conservancy etc
- the private land in question is along the Broad River. Imagine the house or business sitting on the riverbank 25ft or so above the river bottom. After the flood the size of the river has doubled or even tripled in width in places. So yes, I guess technically you still own the geographical plot of land but it's now 25ft lower and nothing but river boulders. I guess you could rebuild but that seems completely impractical and a really bad idea.

So I would tend to agree, "some areas, most unfortunately, should not be rebuilt upon." And I should add that it breaks my heart to say that because I know a man who lost his land/business

I suppose it’s possible but it doesn’t seem probable to me. They’d be strip mining the river bottom of a river that flows directly into Lake Lure where famous people like John Travolta owns, or had owned property. Rich famous people don’t want toxic mine tailings flowing directly into their lake. Nor do they want their million dollar view of the picturesque valley spoiled by mining. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. My opinion is that it should be a national park but that will never happen. It reminds me of Franconia Notch or Crawford Notch in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I definitely have a local bias but if they mine that land it might just be the straw that breaks this camels back.

My state maintained road and my shared private road section have now been fixed - I have not got my bill yet for the rock wall bank shoring up and load of gravel - but happy to have a safe driveway again.

Drove to my nearest town yesterday, realized again how lucky we were in our location, as at least 10 damaged locations along the road and shoulders have now been fixed and the DOT was still working on 2 of the main washout areas where the drop from the pavement was 30 of 40 feet - that will take some time to rebuild but they are working very fast on this state road.

JUST IN: A FEMA supervisor who instructed disaster relief officials to avoid homes and not help Americans who showed support for Trump has been relieved of duties, according to an official statement.

“Avoid homes advertising Trump,” the FEMA supervisor wrote in a “best practices” memo.

Although the official was not named in the statement, multiple government officials told the Daily Wire that the person responsible for the misguided directive is named Marn’i Washington.

According to the Daily Wire's exclusive report, the FEMA agents ordered not to help citizens with Trump signs were operating in Highlands County, Florida. At least 20 homes were reportedly skipped over.

“I know they’re short-staffed, I thought we could go help and make a difference,” one of the FEMA employees remarked. “When we got there we were told to discriminate against people. It’s almost unbelievable to think that somebody in the federal government would think that’s okay.”

Photos shared in the report stated that workers flagged homes as “not able to access property” and included explanations, such as “Trump sign no entry per leadership,” “Per leadership no stop Trump flag,” “Trump sign,” and “Trump sign, no contact per leadership.”

A FEMA employee said: “I volunteered to help disaster victims, not discriminate against them. It didn’t matter if people were black, white, Hispanic, for Trump, for Harris. Everyone deserves the same amount of help.”

A formal complaint raised serious questions about state-sanctioned discrimination against Americans for their personal beliefs.

“This behavior raises significant concerns of discrimination against United States citizens because of their political views,” the complaint said. “These actions not only undermine the integrity of our agency and create a hostile work environment for those who may hold differing political beliefs but they also threaten the very democracy of our country.”

FEMA issued a statement over the scandal to the New York Post.

“FEMA helps all survivors regardless of their political preference or affiliation and we are deeply disturbed by this employee’s actions,” an agency spokesperson told The Post.

“While we believe this is an isolated incident, we have taken measures to remove the employee from their role and are investigating the matter to prevent this from happening ever again,” they added.

“The employee who issued this guidance had no authority and was given no direction to tell teams to avoid these homes, and we are reaching out to the people who may have not been reached as a result of this incident."

“We are horrified that this took place and therefore have taken extreme actions to correct this situation and have ensured that the matter was addressed at all levels,” the rep said.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis remained optimistic the employees involved would ultimately be fired.

“The blatant weaponization of government by partisan activists in the federal bureaucracy is yet another reason why the Biden-Harris administration is in its final days,” DeSantis wrote on X.

“At my direction, the Division of Emergency Management is launching an investigation into the federal government’s targeted discrimination of Floridians who support Donald Trump,” he added.

“New leadership is on the way in DC, and I’m optimistic that these partisan bureaucrats will be fired.”

My staff just made contact with a new whistleblower who provided a credible account that a FEMA contractor visited the home of an elderly disabled veteran's family around October 10. While there, he recommended that the family remove Trump campaign materials and signs from their house and yard, stating that his FEMA supervisors view Trump supporters as domestic terrorists.

The elderly homeowners were so frightened by this and afraid that they would not recover their loss that they removed the signs. Nevertheless, FEMA has not returned to their residence. This took place not in Florida, but Georgia.

The heaters are for folks in higher colder areas, who are living in tents and such. Rain is expected soon where the speaker is, and this means snow up-country. 18” of snow, including wet snow, has previously fallen in some of these areas. Propane and hoses and fitting have been provided by a separate benefactor.

There has also been a donation program for children for Christmas, now with enough for 100 children. And they are looking to source many more needed items.

UPDATE: The post below about the road that West Virginia coal miners came and cut between Bat Cave and Chimney Rock. Well it was sealed off by @FEMA by a metal gate and a sign. Some country boys tore that gate down and started using the road again for supplies.

Now FEMA is looking for $280,000 to seal it off again with a gate, cameras, and armed guards. Those guards are going to be seen as invaders and probably are going to have a very scary night. This is a bad idea FEMA, take the hint and F off before you start a fight you can’t decide when it ends. The road is safe, and there’s no good reason to block it.

FEMA has been just about as great as they were for the victims in Louisiana from hurricane Katrina. If only they were Zionists conducting a genocide in Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, Iraq, or Iran... or shooting long-range missiles into Russia, then the US government could find a way to help them.

The very first people to call for help for others in Western North Carolina were a couple of real estate agents and a handful of pastors. Maybe FEMA is coordinating/working on roads and bridges? Portapotties? Housing for FEMA workers? They sure aren't helping out individual homeowners.

The State of North Carolina doesn't seem to be willing to step-in with financial help, either. You'll never need to tell anyone from western North Carolina that "we are on our own" and other than neighbors helping neighbors, there is no help.

I'm curious about this too. I live just outside of the most severe damage in Eastern North Georgia and hear different numbers all the time from people that have been on the ground helping etc.

I'm curious about this too. I live just outside of the most severe damage in Eastern North Georgia and hear different numbers all the time from people that have been on the ground helping etc.

I doubt anyone will ever know the actual/factual number of deaths.



What troubles me about this whole thing is how sensationalized and distorted it has been.

At a certain level, I "trust" the mainstream media more than most of these people, because some of the things it says have to be true.

I've heard nothing further from the grapevine. We got three reports from people who tried to physically respond in the first few days, and they were asked to leave. Well, sometimes when something bad happens, you don't want people standing around gawking at it, and you tell them to go away. I've done that myself, several times, and I've had it done to me. So this part sounds very normal.

Overall, I would turn far more to what is in the local sources, and, the simple fact that some papers and for example the Town of Chimney Rock were able to respond fairly quickly, is the only sense of relief I got out of it.

The dead are the safe ones. I could spend a day like today warehousing or trucking or something, but, I am far enough away in a podunk nowhere that nothing like that happened.

This info closely matches what the local papers report from each community - with Haywood, Buncomb, and Madison counties being the ones I can speak to with more understanding (Volunteer Fire Departments and Rescue services, small community tallies, local paper human interest stories from the hardest hit communities, etc.) than the sensational accounts.

Of course some more people may die as it gets into the single digits in some areas tonight.

Hurricane Helene storm-related fatalities in North Carolina: County-by-county breakdown

It's been nearly a month since Helene made landfall as a Category 4 Hurricane on the Florida coast on the evening of Sept. 26.

Western North Carolina has been ravaged by the storm, and the state is still trying to pick up the pieces and even identify victims. Additionally, a plethora of misinformation has spread, including the amounts of deaths.

According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, there are 97 confirmed storm-related fatalities in the state, as of Thursday, Oct. 24.

Close to half of those deaths came out of Buncombe County, which suffered 42 confirmed deaths.

at 55 seconds in, he shows the remains of and mentions as one of his favorite Asheville places to eat, White Duck Taco, the indoor part is that Quonset hut seen in background.

We also loved this place, would get our tacos (including jackfruit replacing chicken in some of them for veggie-folk), take them out to one of the many picnic tables alongside the French Broad River for a peaceful lunch, sometimes with quite a lot of time spent there while waiting to get the call from our car-repair place saying it was ready.

one more note: The city might prioritize cleaning up this area less, due to this business, the large music venue next door (Salvage Station), and other businesses on land in this area were to be closed and taken over by the DOT for a large highway and bridges expansion project to begin next year I believe.

He says it's like this "everywhere." That's the truth. It's not isolated to Asheville. It's ALL of Western NC, but not at the same scale. Population density has a lot to do with the amount of debris, but there is, nevertheless, debris everywhere. Everywhere.

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — North Carolina officials have decided to make it easier to build temporary housing for Helene victims.

In a recent News 13 Investigation, several volunteer groups expressed frustration over the permitting process and rules when it comes to providing temporary shelters. They say because of the red tape, warm homes have been delayed for those in need.

"“They didn’t even look at my ID. I just wore a blazer, and it worked,” says James O’Keefe, expecting tight security, upon arriving at FEMA’s temporary headquarters in Hickory, North Carolina. O'Keefe Media Group traveled to North Carolina to investigate the reality of Hurricane Helene relief efforts, gaining access to FEMA’s offices to uncover the truth.

O’Keefe entered the office of Tom McCool, the Federal Coordinating Officer overseeing FEMA’s disaster response, where McCool welcomed O’Keefe and the OMG team inside, but instead of discussing FEMA’s recovery efforts, he asked where O’Keefe was “from,” revealed he had recently been in “Fort Dix,” and inquired, “which exit” O’Keefe lived off of. Security, becoming suspicious, then ushered O’Keefe and OMG journalists into a separate room, where they were met by Patricia Lea Crager, FEMA’s External Affairs Director.

Our OMG Journalist proceeded to ask Crager, “Why aren’t these people out in the field helping? Instead of being in offices, I thought they were out in the community helping.” Crager responded, “We're not playing games. I'm not doing an interview,” and declined to answer any questions about FEMA’s disaster relief efforts.

OMG were then met with the FEMA Public Affairs specialist Nicole Wilson, the 2001: A Space Odyssey, “HAL”robot-like entity, who O'Keefe previously spoke to on the phone. Wilson stated, “As of today, we've got about $247 million in the hands of North Carolina survivors,” and added, “That's about 135,000 households that have received that assistance.” When O’Keefe pressed for more information, he was handed more business cards and told to email individuals for answers, despite being in-person with FEMA executives.

To understand how O’Keefe and OMG were able to easily access FEMA’s offices, O’Keefe called Joe Sordi, the CEO of Strategic Security Corporation. Sordi, hesitant to speak, said, “You'd have to send your media inquiry over and then we can get back to you,” and asked, “Are you a YouTube journalist or are you a real accredited journalist from an actual accredited institution,” emphasizing that he only wanted to converse with media outlets of notoriety.

I was over in Cashiers NC today working and it was friggin freezing! about 14 when I got there this morning. Where most of those suffering farther NE and E of there it's colder, especially in the higher elevations.

It's suppose to get down to 13 here tonight where I live in NE Georgia, about the same or worse over towards Asheville NC. Imagine living in a tent with some kids in this weather and running out of propane or whatever your heating the tent with? This is total BS what these people are going through. Many got lucky and got a camper to stay in, but even then those are a freezer box when you run out of ways to keep them heated.

And then to think of all the billions of dollars the cronies in Gov have sent to support the slaughter of people over seas. Just a fraction of that money could of been sent to those in western NC and no one would be cold or hungry tonight.

When is enough, enough???????????? The hatred and contempt the government has for this country and it's people is mind-boggling....it's as if they have declared war on us.

Today, Interstate 40 reopens in North Carolina and Tennessee after a five month closure from Hurricane Helene. @POTUS made rebuilding these states a priority. @USDOT is committed to making that happen as fast and efficiently as possible.

There’s still a lot of work to do, but the reopening of I-40 today is a big step in the right direction.

Western North Carolina is still hurting, this many days later. This vid, area got 34 inches of rain between Wednesday and Friday of that storm.

He speaks about how the flood-killed vegetation has become wildfire fuel, enabling the recent wildfires. Also shows the extent of some washouts, and that there are still roads restricted to one lane.
