Major Earthquake Kills 100 in Tibet

A massive earthquake hit Tibet this morning, causing heavy damage and many casualties. According to the latest report by Chinese authorities, the quake killed nearly 100 people and injured at least 130 more.

The quake, 7.1 on the Richter scale, struck at 9:05 am China Time, 6:50 am Nepal Time. The epicenter was in Dinggye County, on the Tibetan plateau close to the border with Nepal.

Shigatse and Tingri towns suffered severely damage, with over 1,000 houses destroyed according to Chinese media.

The shock waves also hit mountain areas of Nepal. Local authorities have not reported immediate damage or casualties, but we expect further information throughout the day.

People felt the quake as far away as Kathmandu, where hundreds of citizens ran into the streets, their memories of the devastating 2015 earthquake still fresh. Luckily, authorities report no damage.

There were about 9 major earthquakes and more than 50 aftershocks reported on both sides of Mt Everest on the same day, the second epicenter located near Laboche, Nepal , with earthquake intensity "only" 5.2 on Richter Scale,
the temple bells in Kathmandu were ringing spontaneously and many objects were seen shaking, between 7 AM to 9.30 AM local time , followed by aftershocks.

Beyond the scale of damage and lives lost only 126 casualties reported so far but many survivors are still searched for in the rubble,

also consider possible geomagnetic importance of this remote territory on the Eurasian tectonic rift that extends to both sides of continent,
while it's eastern arm stretches far to Quinlong mountains in China which were shaken by 5.2 ter in course of 24 hours,

the prolonged western tectonic line passes along Hindukush mountains in Pakistan, Afghanistan , all the way through Turkey to North of Italy where it subsides to deeper Mediterranean prolapse and large magmatic zone under.

Next 48 hours to two weeks could get either of us unprepared.

Hear the deaf ends of your phone apparatus .

Eyes open, no fear.

Prayers for victims, survivors and their families will be held by most Tibetan communities worldwide , with deeper thanks to rescue workers and selfless aid of the people of China.

Anyone wishing to help please be careful to contribute ways that are legally accepted in China.

Contributions to Tibetan communities out of China are wholly separate issue because they are not allowed to support their friends and relatives in Tibet without bypassing state security.

All charitable contributions to survivors of the earthquake should be collected by people of Tingri themselves or their close friends and relatives in Tibet.

Notice this was previously one of the remotest areas on Earth inhabited by humans , cold arid mountain desert in elevation between 3000 to 5000 m/sea level,
dirty outpost and fort on the way to Lhasa , long before famous Buddhist monasteries and schools were established in Shigatse.

his whereabouts are unknown at the moment".

"When the earthquake struck, not even young people could get out of the buildings not to speak of aged people or children, everything happened very fast "( direct witness observation)

I've been watching the new videos on this youtube channel for about half a year.

I quickly became fascinated by this lady's 'travels within China' videos. They've shown me a huge amount of real contemporary Chinese life. I hope I'm not being too naïve and I realise she's probably getting her videos approved by the government and what I saw of her father looked like what I imagine a typical Han government bureaucrat in that country looks like. As a westerner who has never been further east than Canterbury it's been very eye opening.

She has previously made videos very high up in the more southern part of the Tibetan region where she even had to use oxygen. This video is made at the border at the northern edge of the Tibetan region.

My greatest condolences to the loss of his son and daughter. He’s a great man.

Lhundrup is an auxiliary police officer in China's Xizang. His son and daughter were killed in the earthquake.

"I don't dare to stop for even a moment because I'm afraid of thinking about my children." To relieve the pain, he has been tirelessly working in rescue after his children’s simple funeral.

His tears finally burst out when he found his children's clothes under the rubble. 🫡🫡🫡
