Another Smart City coming to Myrtle Beach? Meta Beach?

More than one hundred wildfires are raging across the Carolinas, causing South Carolina officials to declare a state of emergency as firefighters struggle to contain the blazes.

One fire, around five miles north of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, grew from 600 to 1,200 acres from Saturday to Sunday with 0% containment.

Local news outlets in September 2023 reported on city staffers looking to make Myrtle Beach a “smart city using new advanced technology” in what they dubbed “the fourth Industrial Revolution,” which is being led by tech giant Meta.

The city’s Chief Innovation Officer Howard Waldie said officials want to use technology to “improve” the environment and have been working to make Myrtle Beach a “smart city” since 2022.

Waldie called the introduction of “smart city” technologies “the next phase of technological evolution.”

In years gone by I remember seeing articles describing how South Carolina practices very good forest management trying to minimize damage from forest fires. Removing brush from forest floor and other things. Obviously the best laid plans of mice and men....

It's true. I lived there for a year while attending university at Coastal Carolina. That was something they took pride in (along with mudding and strip clubs:))

Where ever those fires are in that state, is in North America...

And this continent is in the North Hemisphere from planet Earth which happens to be in Winter right now...

Which means forest aren't dry like in Summer...when fire from any kind can easily start...

Therefor...(...........) insert there your favorite "conspiracy theory"

It stinks...everywhere...you cant pinch your nostrils hard enough ! :mmph:

There was a few fires near me but they are contained. We have a major storm coming this afternoon. Winds have already picked up.

I could not find a map like this for So. Carolina:
