Pierre Elliott Trudeau was a highly known and liked member of Montreal's homosexual community, a socialite amongst an elite guild ,,, well known popular during a time homosexuality was illegal

he also had close underground contacts including the CIA
who approached him with an offer of wealth and power, the CIA would ensure Trudeau would become prime minister at a time Quebec separatism was at its peak
they needed a francophone

the CIA invented a terrorist group called the FLQ which blew up mail boxes and kidnapped govt officials with demands, and allegedly murdered one

the reason of all this is that Quebec straddles the st Lawrence river the gateway to American industrial ports
separation would make the river Quebec sovereign waters and Quebec able to demand tariff live taxes to shipping

the can public was convinced after martial law was declared and martial law
and curfews -------- called the ''October Crisis'' Canadians were scared
but all was orchestrated by the CIA to avoid paying honest taxes and threatening to put Trudeau in prison or worse made a willing mole at the top of Canada

he promised to legalize pot and many headline newspaper pictures
showed picture=s of him at Sussex drive smoking it defiantly breaking the law
he legalized homosexuality instead pot remained illegal

his wife had had serious mental illness before they married

more later

i hoped this would gain more views here as canadians are mostly unaware

You have to go a bit further back, Pierre Trudeau was the son of a bootleggers who made a fortune during the american prohibition, much like the Kennedys. Justin Trudeau’s grand father was selling his booze mostly to americans and definitely had underground contact for doing this.

This tells you the mentality a bit. From outside the law to politicians, the step seems to be a minor one 🤪 Stll nowadays the same.

In the late fifties and sixties, the CIA was quite involved in Quebec studying on one hand what was called the quiet revolution, quiet because it was the first time worldwide that a pretty complete overhaul of a society was done without real blood bath.

Quebecers - here French Canadians - who were under a biparty apartheid oligarchy, namely the catholic church in cohout with the English/British elite population, were, within 20 year, thrown out of the local levers of power or having to share power.

On the other hand, the CIA was very interested in studying this change of power as well as having MK Ultra experiments in Montreal Allen Memorial hospital now the Douglas.

Pierre, the father of Justin, benefitted from this, being an intellectual lawyer raised in the best Jesuit schools, in a wealthy family, having traveled the world with Jacques Hébert, his friend who became a writer and later a senator, both as young hippies like guys, both quite heterosexual if I rely in local directly heard gossips of who slept with whom (although Pierre was for gay rights all along).

So Pierre benefitted from the French Canadian revolution by being both French, raised in French schools, and English speaking through his mom. And a well educated man with Jesuit approaches to leadership. He was well positioned to be a public figure.

Surprisingly for the rest of Canada, he was a friend of René Lévesque, the spearhead of the French Canadian revolution, having been both in the same university, writing in the same student newspapers and both being very bright men.

They became enemies later during their political career, because of divergent views about the French Canadian victims of the centuries long apartheid (French had about zero access to power, financial and other - a book was written then on the French people situation in Quebec and it was titled “The white N of America” -the N was a complete word, not being cancelled yet).

I think that the FLQ, putting bombs in mail boxes, was quite innocent with no links with the CIA, at the start, but that what Pierre Trudeau did with imposing the war measures was definitely a CIA push to see and study if bloodbath would follow.

Only one person (a French Canadian provincial politician) was killed by one of the FLQ branches during the whole era, not justifying by itself war measures.

One British ambassador was kidnapped and found, no death here.

There were much less violence than any violence happening all over nowadays.

I am writing all this from memory, having seen the army in Montreal streets. I also knew the babysitters of Jacques Hébert children, Pierre’s friends, as well as some René Lévesque family members.

Even FLQ members were mostly intellectuals and they all have probably met each others - Pierre and René - at one point in their life.
