From his website.
Yesterday, Dr. Zahi Hawass was appointed as the Minister of Antiquities, a newly created department that will be charged with the care and protection of all Egyptian monuments and museums. This department will absorb the Supreme Council of Antiquities, and Dr. Zahi will continue excavating, writing books, and representing his country.

My goodness! It is getting stinkier. He has been actually acting in this capacity for some time when you look at all the mess that has been going on at the Giza plateau. Another sign....

In my opinion he chose a perfect career - it gives him plenty of rocks to crawl out from under. By accepting the cabinet post (including his last stint) even the 'blind' Hawass fans will start to see his true intentions.

Your right I can see now he has been doin this for a while just under a different department. The question is why the change of organisation? Is this some sleight of hand or is someone new running the show from behind the scenes.

I remember this bloke...
Saw him on Australian 60 minutes...
Treating his workers like "SCUM"!
I've got this Sneaking Suspision that the True Freedom Loving Egyptians who are Protesting against Tyranny & Suppression are very well aware of this and they have all heard our 'Cries of Support' to their cause and they won't stop until they have one of their own in Govt., Leading their Nation!

This stinks to high heaven. I was really hoping after the Egyptian revolution calmed down the archives would get a bit of fresh air and much needed public reviewing.
Now it seems more and more likely those poor guys are going to get bashed if they continue asking for real change, and the historical data will never get a fair and unbiased review...
Oh well... Things could still turn out good, it's just this guys face popping up that scares me.

This is quite a frightening prospect as in my opinion Mubarak, with Israel/US/UK support, are mustering global opinion with the few celebrities to try and influence its own Egyptian population. Furthermore, the prospects for the beast Hawass are even less uncertain should the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) attain power. The MB are the same muslim faction that destroyed the ancient statues of Buddha in the early days of the Afghanistan invasion. They will have no sympathy or hesitation in destroying the ancient works and monuments in Egypt.
Dr Hawass depends heavily on his elitists friends worldwide (NWO), as only collusion with these ensures the elite organisations receive first bite of any new exploration without prying public utility media present. And gloriously true for all corporate interaction, everything is super duper secret.
For every truth that man spouts, the file of thousands of secrets expands. The super irony though is people are starting to work it out for themselves. The more he ages the more irrelevant he becomes but this a dangerous period for us all and this promotion of his has yet to play out in full. We must be watchful and attentive.
(I really do not understand how dopes like that attain such high status, when I try dopey influence, the barman pours the beer over my head and the locals throw me out. They do let me have my clothes back though)

Well, we always knew he protected the academian establishment, but now he delves into politics by endorsing Mubarak. I'm going to boycott Egypt this year (besides, I've been there in 2009 and 2010 and it's time to see the Mayan pyramids instead).l

His nemesis is Graham Hancock among others.
"Before I go, I remembered something interesting from Hancock's talk. He told us how Hawass was fired from his Chief Inspector's job because a statue of Chephren went missing."
