Secretary-General and US Ambassador Call Law Professor’s Measured Remarks “Preposterous”

Richard Falk, retired Princeton University professor of international law and a United Nations-appointed human rights expert on the Human Rights Council, was blasted by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon for suggesting in his January 11 blog entry that there was a cover-up regarding some aspects of the official account of 9/11. Falk mentioned “the reluctance to address the sort of awkward gaps and contradictions in the official explanations” that David Ray Griffin documents in his books. Falk also wrote, “What may be more distressing than the apparent cover-up is the eerie silence of the mainstream media … What must we learn from all this? Don’t connect dots without evidence.”

Sec.-Gen. Ki-Moon condemned these remarks as “preposterous”.

UN Watch, a pressure group that monitors the U.N., is calling for Prof. Falk to be removed from his post on the Human Rights Council. This incident is attracting more attention because the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs is considering problems with US payments of UN dues. US Committee Chair Lleana Ros-Lehtinen wants President Obama to pull the US out of the Human Rights Council.

I find more truth by reading between the lines, in the fine print and in the comment areas.

Richard Falk, who considers himself an American Jew, has lightly touched on an issue that has an Israeli flavor, or I should say, a Zionist flavor. This, cannot be ignored by those whose real and genuine fervor is everlasting war.

By exposing the real truth behind 9/11 and the true who-done-it, the corporate sponsored everlasting war would be brought to its knees. This is the reason that there is such an outcry against anyone who dares to cross that proverbial line in the sand.

Thanks for this comment, which is of course persuasive on its face.

Actually, the UN Monitor is not concerned about 9/11 itself but is using my acknowledgment of uncertainty about the official version as a pretext to smear me because of my views critical of Israel.

From the American Jewish Committee:

AJC Calls on UN to Dismiss Richard Falk

January 26, 2011 – New York – AJC called on the UN to immediately dismiss Richard Falk after he publicly endorsed 9/11 conspiracy theorists. Falk is the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights in the Palestinian Territories.

In his blog this month, Falk endorsed the slander of conspiracy theorists who claim that the terrorist attacks, in which nearly 3,000 people were killed, were perpetrated and then covered up by the U.S. government and media.

“We agree wholeheartedly with the U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Susan Rice, who stated that Mr. Falk’s comments are ‘despicable and offensive’ and, like her, urge the UN to remove him from his position,” said AJC Executive Director David Harris. “Falk has long been a conspiracy-ridden and harmful figure who surely does not serve the best interests of the UN.” (I can certainly understand the why.)

AJC expressed outrage when Falk was first appointed Special Rapporteur in 2008, saying that his selection underscored the innate bias of the Human Rights Council, the UN organ that appointed him to examine a situation involving Israel. "His longstanding record of hostility toward Israel, as well as his support of boycotts and sanctions against the Jewish state, should have disqualified him from consideration, but then again, tellingly, the world body was not looking for an objective and disinterested individual," Harris said.

“The UN must now, at long last, do the right thing and fire Richard Falk,” said Harris.
