Does anybody remember the story that took off on an About.com thread called I Am An Alien in 1999 or 2000 (I think). What began as a very simple story by a forum member turned into a very detailed expose of an apparent alien. I left before the thread finished but by that time it had gained a great deal of attention and a long Q and A period followed - a lot like it has here with interest in particular individuals redirecting the flow of traffic.

I have no idea what came of the story but in a discussion with Rachel Bree, she laid out the details the hoax perpetrator. Still it was a fascinating story, that reminds me a lot of Project Serpo in terms of it's capacity to engage people in rigorous debate.

In my mind a similar kind of social dynamic is playing out here in multiple threads, which seem to be being directed from some larger angle, shall we say. :becky:

Anyway just curious to hear if others know about the original story or if you've tracked it down and your thoughts and feelings about both the content and the way the social interaction played out.

May you all find the path to freedom from suffering and realize your true nature,

Bright Garlick.

For humans to come of age in the Milky Way, we must reconcile our own petty differences and acknowledge that we have more in common than we do the things that separate and divide us.

I don't know the original story, but your assessment of our present situation here is spot on.
We are aware and acting it out seems to be the only way...
