Ok ..Out of curiosity, I would like to know the ratio.

To those who think this is sexist etc ....

Gender for me is about balance.

I did not feel like looking at each member profile to figure out an average so.. i am asking here.

thank you

The result of the poll will only give an idea of the ratio of the people who pressed the vote button. Therefore the result will be: how many boys and girls pressed the button. :p

To me, this poll is asking what gender my body is. As an energetic being, I question as to whether I have a gender.

Totally!

I was born with what science would consider a male body and male genes, however, I felt for a while I was transgender and I badly wanted to have a female body until I realized it didn't matter at all what kind of vehicle I was driving. As long as it was healthy and able to take me where I needed to go and do what I needed to do, that is all that matters to me.

I voted female btw, because that is the gender I identify with even though it technically is not what my true being or my body is. I've been taken for female before, when I'm clean shaven, even though I am flat chested and rail thin. I've never acted male or done male things, but I ain't 'girly' either. Though my being is nothing, my body still feels the 'urge' to be female, even though I shall not change it as there is no need.

[Not to turn this into a gender studies thread of course. This is just where I am at.]

I can sort of Identify 000. In my high school and college years I didn't particularly feel like either. Here is a short story.
In my high school on the last week before summer break, my school had what was called Humanities Day, which consisted of different class exhibits. My group exhibit was on blood typing if you can imagine that. (1973) Wouldn't happen today.

Well towards lunch I was making for the door of the auditorium as I had an appointment with a couple friends and a splif, (I know "bad girl"), when a history teacher called to me and asked me to volunteer as one of his subjects. His exhibition was this machine that was a Rube Goldberg type set up that was used during WW2 to detect land mines. I don't know the specifics, but I had to hold these two bent coat hangers. If the hangers went one way they detected a mine. He also pointed out that the readings were different when a male held them than when a female held them. Anyways, when I held them the meter stayed in the middle. Well what are you Smitty a Boy or a Girl ! The students roared with laughter.
Now for some reason I wasn't hurt or embarrassed at all. Everything around me got quiet and I experienced a moment of elation that I didn't quite understand. "This means something "is all I could think of at the time.

About a half an hour later I was in the cafeteria munching out with my toking buddies, and another one of my friends comes rushing up to me. (She was the daughter of the Teacher who had just run his test on me). "I'm so sorry" she says, I hate my %$### father he's nothing but a nasty vicious drunk and he should never have done that to you, please tell me we're still friends!" I told her that I thought the whole thing was kinda cool. She didn't get it and neither did I, but looking back on it I still think my reaction to the whole thing was spot on, but I couldn't say why.

Well I'm a mom now, so I guess that makes me a girl. My significant other, the absolute love of my life is a big 250 lb. super metro sexual man. He is the one who cries at the end of "The Joy Luck Club". We're a match made in...... somewhere?

Me too. It's possible there is a gender bias going on here, in this poll, for some reason. As in, a higher percentage of men are too afraid or too disinterested, or too something (or not enough of something) to grab a mouse and click it.

Also, I would bet there are a higher percentage of transgendered people at Avalon than statistical averages would get, but I would think that they would see an anonymous poll as an opportunity to select the gender they most identify with. Truth be told, I think gender, beyond what shows up when you lift your kilt, is actually scalar and not polar - we're all somewhere between the extremes. :~)

I see no point in gender wars in general, the time of the caveman is gone. It doesn't matter if your stronger, faster, smarter etc, the world doesn't work that way anymore and lets hope it won't again. All that matters is that women get the same pay and treatment as men in the work place and elsewere, of course this applies to men also.

I am in disagreement.
I do think that gender divides
it always has and always will
until each and eveyone of us
attains full enlightenment

How we cope with that division
determines how human we are

Celine
16th February 2011, 15:45
The division is caused by ego.

I do NOT want to be anything other then a woman.

I have no issues recognizing the differences and the simliarities..

We both deserve equal rights, equal oppurtunity ...but we are NOT the same.

WE balance eachother...if given the oppurtunity

I'm a gay man. I think I have a female spirit and considered a sex change once but once I looked into what it involved I decided against it. If they could have made me fully female (as in capable of bearing children) I probably would have gone for it. I understand where 000 is coming from.

The odd thing is that aspergers is sometimes described as having extreme male wiring in the brain.

I just don't fit any of the stereotypes and I can't stand the gay scene (too much obsession with loveless sex, not my cup of tea at all).

//edit I answered male though

I just did an advanced search of members and there were 1,464 males and 580 females. Roughly thats about 72% male and 28% female. Your poll has 60% male and 40% percent female so far. Either way it appears that there are more males at Avalon. This poll is good because we get some reaction to the results. I know some have talked about how gender can be a dividing issue, but I don't really see much division related to gender on the Avalon Forum even when gender is discussed. The eye color issue didn't seem dividing either when discussed even after we have been told of the possibility of it being very important:

While doing a Reiki treatment yesterday, I got a strong 'feeling' that my client needed to connect to the female energy ie Mother Earth. Although she spends alot of time doing the garden and meditating, grounding herself, the connection was still being lost, hence Sacral problems. I have the same problem in my lower back and feel (wonder?), regardless of whether we are female or male we must connect to our feminine energy more than ever through this time. Its just my feeling...I'm a single Mum with a young child by the way, so although I am in touch with my feminine/nurturing I am very aware of having to be practical and focused. Any Hope this was ok to post here...I'm one of those 'newbies' so still finding my feet lol :p x

I've been thinking this over and this poll on gender doesn't feel quite right. Celine, I realize that you wanted to know the gender of a person's body, but to me the answer doesn't feel very useful. To me a better question would have been what energy do I gravitate/resonate to in this now? Male, female or balanced? I feel this would be more telling of a person, than a physical attribute.

For me, I would have answered balanced. I know that I have had a lot of experience with male energy and female energy separately, but for me, in this now, I am learning/remembering to incorporate the two into a merge/mesh/ a balance.

I think it would be interesting to see the ratios of physical genders, then compare that to how people consider themselves from a psychological or mental standpoint. Physically, I am very male and approach things with a lot of logic as males aften do, but on a more basic level I am extremely emotional and sensitive and I always run my logic past these perspectives as well before making choices or taking action. In this sense I consider myself fairly balanced. Not that there is anything wrong with a strictly male perspective - there isn't; and it is sometimes it is required, just as sometimes a feminine perspective is required, but the majority of outcomes end up best with both perspectives considered (emotional/intuitive + logical/practical). The results were about where I expected but I'm not sure how indicative it is of the overall Avalon population. Out of curiousity Celine if you read this, why were you assuming there would be far more males (2x I think I read you indicate) to respond to this? You can PM me that if you think it would be be better. Interesting poll, I glad to see some people being very comfortable with themselves here .. makes me very happy when people can express who they really are.

An age poll

Old enough to know better, young enough to do it anyway.

An education level poll

More than most, less than some. Unless you are referencing a silly piece of paper that says you've been subject to x number of years of EXTRA brainwashing. I'd imagine a few of you nice blokes are in that situation, and you have my deepest sympathy ;)

A marital status poll

Were everyone as happily married as I, the world would be a different place. I joke not.

A professional occupation poll

You mean what I do for fiat dollars? Fix other people's problems. Seriously. World is full of people who can't fix their own problems ;)

An annual income poll

Well the annuals haven't been planted yet, the ground is still too cold, but the perennials are starting to sprout already close to the house, where it is warmer. When the do come up, I imagine that our annual income will be pretty impressive. My favorites are sunflowers. (You can eat them!)

A number of children poll

Not enough. ;) Will get working on that presently.

A what car do you like to drive poll

Bugatti. That's one sweet ride

A what is your favorite pet poll.

Cat. Fluffy, soft, purrs... what's not to love? ;)

All this talk about gender, sexuality, etc., is simply a means by which we Separate Ourselves... You, vs, Me. The idea of 'Other'. We can continue down this path for an eternity, for surely, that is the path we've been taking for some time now, yes? It is more about how each individual sees and 'carry' themselves, and the corresponding response from those around them. In the overall scheme of things, as long as we treat each other with respect, care and love, then things pretty much take care of themselves. But, we don't always do that, do we? Egos are bruised, spirits crushed, love torn asunder. I don't have many answers, other than those that should be apparent. Does anyone else see them?

To remain balanced in the face of adversity is something to strive for; avoiding situations because of a lack of confidence or fear of discussing "taboo" things because you fear the true colours that it will bring out in you means you have work to do. We should all be able to remain 100% connected in discussing even things of seperation. I see and know well exactly what you are saying, but I also see being able to go to these places and leave unscathed is a place we all desire to be. Process is goal. And I clearly, very clearly, understand your concerns.

I can tell where ones heart, intellect and awareness is by what people write, if they write enough.
Nothing else concerns me to any degree

But when folks have a name like BeBee000 and I cannot determine the gender or get no sense of it
I am always delighted to find out that my dream of them is either wrong or right.
It reflects to me my programed prejudices that still run tapes
and reminds me that I am still working on stuff

if its so irrelevant why are you posting on the thread ?

I asked 2 admin's and 2 mods..if they could answer me the question on what percentage the members were, male to female...

They could NOT answer...so I asked here...

seems simple enough to me.

*sigh*

I am viewing what others think and consider of importance. This is how
you gain a bigger view of the world than what one holds personally.
As I said there are programed prejudices or did you not read that part.
Where there are errors in thought one will be attracted to that topic

and the information that is irrelevant to me is the gender demographics of this forum

an error in thought is a subjective opinion although your answers might be right for you that doesn't mean they are right for everyone else

Wow that's a pretty harsh judgement of a harmless post and all of us who look at or participate. Where does all this hostility come from. These are VERY heavy times, why are you taking it out on the rest of us?

Acting perfect? I am who I am.
and the error in thought I am alluding to is my error, I was not pushing something on someone else.
"Where there are errors in thought one will be attracted to the topic" was specifically regarding my attraction here stated after I mentioned my very own prejudices....

so I don't get what the heck you are driving at.

i cant answer your poll because it is missing the option that we are all a little bit of both ;)

I could not think of a less ambiguous measure by which to answer the poll except to say....

I have Male genitalia :)

I mean how freaking complicated do people have to make a simple question?

No wonder we have so many problems.

If I started a poll with no specific question and the two answers:

1) I agree
2) I disagree

And I bet we would still have an multi-page thread accusing me of causing division in the community :)

I swear some of you guys could pick a fight in an empty room.

John..

I now think we should have:

An age poll
An education level poll
A marital status poll
A professional occupation poll
An annual income poll
A number of children poll
A what car do you like to drive poll
A what is your favorite pet poll.

On second thoughts... maybe not!

:)
