On MSM sources as well ... taken here in support of Alt News sites :)

But first ... ***NEWS FLASH***

General Discussion forum now shows more views than the Charles forum :)

sorry ... have not seen anything akin to that in a long long time.

Anyway,

Supercomputer is taking on peeps on Jeopardy and doing quite well.

Yes computers have been doing masterfully in chess for years but this is a little different and perhaps only appreciately by those who understand the strengths and weaknesses of computer programs.

Once you get into quantum computing and *** the machine *** that goes well beyond me but I thought this was interesting enough to pass along.

Because humans can process semantic data effortlessly, a machine representation seems simple till you actually try to build one. I used to think it was simple, until I started studying grammar parsers and LSI. If I string up all my CPUs, I could build one that could parse through 3 or 4 million records to try to maybe answer a question correctly in a reasonable amount of time.

Watson parses a data structure that is around the equivalent of 200 million printed pages of text. For every question.
