Hello!

In last two months this forum has changed.

Is it good or bad, doesn't matter on this point.

Only constant is change.

Still we need to seriously address few technical issues.

(1) First of all, I would urge you all to remind yourself the forum guidelines, available here: http://projectavalon.net/forum4/faq.php?faq=avalonguidelines#faq_membershipguidelines

(2) There is nested quote feature added recently. It's purpose is to add clarity to what points from posts before.
What I see is not clear is that you should quote ONLY the past relevant to what you discuss:

3. POSTING ‘DEAD’ TEXT
1. “Dead text” wastes bandwidth as well as disk space and reading time. When replying to a post, please quote only the previous text that is essential to the reply. This does slightly slow down the speed with which you may respond to a post, but is in consideration of the other members.

Sure you need to be careful with quote markers, but this forum is not a race. The very form of the posts is designed to be a deliberate thought exchange.

If you want blow-by-blow exchange, there is chatroom for that

(3) Staying on topic. Mod team tries to intervene as little as possible. We are assuming we are dealing with adults here, not hormone-laden teenagers.
General rule is, that it is Original Poster (OP) that decides if the thread is on track or not. Now, this does not mean that everything goes. There is this litle button on the bottom-left side of the post, with exclamation mark on it. It is called 'report post'. This is how you give us headsup something is wrong

If OP feels purpose of his thread went astray, he should use it.

(4) Again - staying on topic. If you have technical problem, you either PM mods, on post in technical Q&A NOT in the thread you are in.
Remember- whatever you write, somebody will read. Often months after original posts. Preview what you write.
Think before hitting submit.
And when there is a post by mod or admin saying do not post - this is not idle jest.

(5) There are some threads that deal with formatting quotes or embeds.

And generally, if you have a "techie" problem you look/post here:

All I can suggest is when clipping please try to retain who is being quoted. I have seen quite a few responses to a quote with no clue who the original poster is.

Thanks

(and triple thanks to all the Mods) :thumb:

People may also want to avoid 'double posting.' That is, if you just posted, but there is something else you wanted to add, edit your previous post and add it there if nobody has replied yet.

Is that easy to understand? Didn't get much sleep last night, my brain isn't feeling very articulate.

Great thread Luke.. Thank you..

A town Meeting includes all of us... which is what the heart of avalon is.

You honor all of us ...

I have a suggestion... came to me while reading the heather thread...

A sub forum for debunked info/whistleblowers would serve the purpose of clarity for people who are unfamiliar with certain topics.

could even be a sticky one that's always on top of thread list

The use of an ellipse mark (...) should be encouraged with extreme enthusiasm.
When you answer a post of extreme importance to you adding ellipse marks speeds the discussion by making the text you are specifically replying to the only text in the quote area. Drag. Highlight unneeded text. Delete - Add ellipse.
Makes a long complex debate easy to read for those interested in following from start to finish. Here's an example.

Ediedt post by Abraham Lincoln.

Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.
(...)
this nation shall have a new birth of freedom; and that this government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Abe I appreciate your sentiment but I am an anarchist with a closet full of truncheons. We'll have to agree do disagree respectfully. See you on the battle my old friend and respected adversary.

Anarchist

A. Lincoln
Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth, upon this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.

Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met here on a great battlefield of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of it as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.

But in a larger sense we can not dedicate - we can not consecrate - we can not hallow this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled, here, have consecrated it far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember, what we say here, but can never forget what they did here.

It is for us, the living, rather to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they have, thus far, so nobly carried on. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us - that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here gave the last full measure of devotion - that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain; that this nation shall have a new birth of freedom; and that this government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Abe I appreciate your sentiment but I am an anarchist with a closet full of truncheons. We'll have to agree do disagree respectfully. See you on the battle my old friend and respected adversary.

I had an idea.....

Is it possible to implement a system whereby a thread can be tagged by the mods/admin and then posses diffrent qualities?

perhaps in threads that the mods deem need 'clarity', we could be limited to 2 deep multiple quotes, no quick post function, or possibly a pop-up when submitting a post.

Such a popup could read "Before submiting your post please see that your post contains information or analysis that will be of intrest to more than one or two people. This mesage refers to this thread only, a moderator has determined that it is becoming confusing" or some such....

That way the quantity of posts on less popular threads wouldnt be hurt.

Or is it possible to have a self destructing post? So that the "goodnight all" ect. posts can dissapear after 1hr or something?

not sure if any of these things are do-able thuogh.

As a new member i would like to thank everyone here for making this such a welcomeing and informative place.
