Big pharma company Sanofi-Aventis has just announced a deal to buy out Genzyme, a Massachusetts based bio-tech drug company. Sanofi-Aventis, is looking to offset dwindling sales of vaccines, and medicines. The price for Genzyme, $20 billion after initial reluctance to the takeover. Genzyme stock rose 80 cents after the deal was announced.
Sanofi-Aventis is the manufacture of such popular drugs such as Alegra, Ambien, and such nightmare vaccines fluzone, and IPOL. Genzyme product portfolio includes such drugs as Cerezyme, used to treat Type 1 Gaucher disease, and Fludara, used to treat patients with leukemia.
