Hello dear Avalonians,
I am going through a tough time right now. My father has stage 4 colon cancer, I took my mother to the hospital last night in respiratory failure. She is stabalized, but was in terrible condition. They have her in ICU at this time. She has smoked for 50 years.
I took smoking back up in 2005 on one of the worst nights of my life. I was in shock, having a near break down, and bummed a menthol cigarette. I hadn't smoked for twenty years really, and just happened to bum a menthol. In the past, when at a bar I'd bum one and it would be non-menthol. I'd go "Ewww" and put it out. Well, I've been smoking since 2005 and need to stop NOW.
So, my request is to help me end this addiction. To hate them, find them repulsive, get over the emotional fix and habit as well as the physical habit. And, to do all I can to help my family. So, I would greatly appreciate your kind thoughts and energy towards me and my family at this time.
Much love and sincere thanks

Much love to you and your family at this time :)
I recently stopped smoking. I did it by telling myself it was bad for me (and my finances!) and asking for help to overcome the urges and by smoking less and less until it was once week, which hardly seemed worth it! The first stage is wanting to stop - you're already well on the road to stopping! There are many different ways you can go about it- choose which you think works best for you whether it be acupuncture, homeopathy or meditation or whatever. Best of luck! You know you can do it ;)

Cigarettes contain arsenic, formaldehyde, lead, hydrogen cyanide, nitrogen oxide, carbon monoxide, ammonia and 43 known carcinogens. That's a whole bunch of toxic chemicals you are inhaling into your amazing respiratory system each time you light up. Look up pictures of poisoned lungs every time you get the urge to smoke. You can even buy an ashtray which looks like human lungs, if you want.
I sincerely wish you the best of luck in quitting.
I know this has to be an incredibly emotional time for you.
Please let us all know how you're doing with your habit :)

Quit buying your favorite brand, buy each pack different brand, all non-menthols. It will "ruin" the familiarity. Also I suggest conscious breathing - after all that is what smoking often is - a form of meditation. Give up smoking, not your meditative breathing.

exercise helps as it dumps endorphins into the body. This is a strong component of the situation.
If it helps, it's been a pretty common occurrence from my observance.....for psychic people to suffer from addictions.

The next cigarette you pick up, look at it. Then break it and throw it away for me. Just that one. You have the energy to do it. And I give you mine to help you do it.

A book called 'Easy way for women to stop smoking' by Allen Carr. That was useful to me. You can still smoke whilst reading it, but the words gradually undo the brainwashing. He has another one that isn't directed only to women.
I took up smoking 2 1/2 years later due to looking after my sisters kids for the Summer....oh my god........lesson learnt!

This beautiful traditional Buddhist prayer reminds us of the power of every moment to bring us ease and inner peace. May it bring you healing.
Just as the soft rains fill the streams,
pour into the rivers, and join together in the oceans,
so may the power of every moment of your goodness
flow forth to awaken and heal all beings
those here now, those gone before, those yet to come.
By the power of every moment of your goodness,
may your hearts wishes be soon fulfilled
as completely shining as the bright full moon,
as magically as by a wish-fulfilling gem.
By the power of every moment of your goodness,
may all dangers be averted and all disease be gone.
May no obstacle come across your way.
May you enjoy fulfillment and long life.
For all in whose heart dwells respect,
who follow the wisdom and compassion, of the Way,
may your life prosper in the four blessings
of old age, beauty, happiness and strength.

Smoking cigarettes, like many other destructive habit are a form of self-harm. Much like a person who cuts themselves on the outside, except you hare cutting yourself on the inside where no one can see it. The problem is not that you are smoking, it is WHY you are smoking. You need to find that out first to be able to stop long term. It is like peeling off the onion skins. One at a time. After you find the reason, healing work is needed, then changing the belief system that keep the habit alive. Start seeing yourself as a non-smoker, healthy and happy. The end destination is always HAPPY AND HEALTHY AND IN CONTROL OF YOUR HABITS. To be in control of your habits, you need to be in control of your mind. It only takes practise to accomplish this. Set your goal on HEALTHY AND HAPPY. This is your divine birth right.

Serenity love and healing for you!
I myself smoked like a crazy...and I managed to stop smoking when I thought Iīd never do so by reading Alen Carrīs book Easyway to Stop smoking.
The most amazing book ever to help someone stop smoking (I dont earn money advertising it).
I found the book really good not only for stopping smoking but also to realize how much we are brainwashed into liking things we actually hate...this double-bind thatīs been so important in the construction of "consumer societies", they sell you crap telling you its amazing for you and we are so split already that we donīt connect the dots, we dont recognize that the message is sending us conflictive info to the brain and thus we accept blindly and unconsciously the subliminal message.
Anyhow, reading the book help you free yourself from other prisons of the mind as you can apply what it is said, to other areas of your life.
Also, you may find out that you started smoking for a particular reason. In my case I wanted to smoke the pipe of peace with a relative of mine, and he smoked, so unconsciously I felt that if i smoked too we would be together in a peaceful bond, how wrong!...When he stopped smoking cause he couldnt do otherwise and was force due to health reasons, the unconscious bond between us and the peace pipe lifted aswell and then is when I got to suddenly open myself up to the opportunity of considering the idea to stop smoking (unquestionable until then)...
see the patterns? they are subtle but they very well could be running as well your drive to smoke...
Perhaps some reflection on your side could shine some light onto why you chose to smoke..
Love and best wishes to you

When I was about 15 years old, my mom smoked. I decided to help her quit. I figured that smoking was unconscious (I was only partially correct), and decided to make her smoking into a conscious event.
I emptied her pack of cigarettes, took a needle, and poked numerous tiny holes in about half of the cigarettes, and put them back in the pack. When she got one with holes, she would have to suck quite a bit harder to get smoke into her lungs, which changed the dynamic. A week later, I put "loads" (extremely tiny firecrackers) into a couple of the cigarettes in her pack. That really pissed her off! But, I believe it became impossible to unconsciously light a cigarette any more. She quit soon thereafter.
Now, I don't believe I "made her" quit, that was something she had to do by herself. But I did modify the pattern and I think that helped.
So, show this note to a loved one in your house (hahahahahaha) or else, consciously start messing with the pattern. Like, take two puffs on one, then put it out. Another time, when you want a cigarette, rip one apart, and put some of the tobacco on your tongue. Another time, spritz yourself in the face with water while you are smoking. Force yourself to notice when you smoke, and I'll bet you smoke less and less and can then quit.
Sending positive energy your way, and if you leave your pack of cigarettes out where I can find them .... hahahahahhahaha

Yes...great insight Dennis! good on you!
How many times we smoke because we want simply a deep breath!..but like water, we have undervalued the goodness of simply breathing...
we think we need the ciggie to make a deep breath possible!...
Bringing the habit to conscious attention and focus is crucial, great way of doing so with your Mother Dennis LOL!

Good luck! The last time I quit smoking cigs(they are non additive cigs but still...)ETs negated my craving for them. I wish I could offer you that. They don't do what I ask like that.
There are some natural things you can take that are used for curbing the desire for nicotine. My mother always talks about a type of natural pill she takes that curbs the cravings. I'm not sure about side effects but anything natural I am less worried about in terms of side effects. I've observed them being taken with no negative things happening detectable.
I hope you are successful, and will send some good energy your way.

Sweetie,
Under the circumstances of your Mother and Father's illness at this moment in time, I do not think it's a good time to add this to your worries. As a smoker for over thirty years, the way I quit was easy, painless, and done without much thought. My mother, who I love very much, died on March 24, 2004. As I journeyed to attend her funeral, I cried all the way from Northern Idaho, alone in my vehicle, puffing a cig a minute and my ashtray was too full to even believe my own eyes. I prayed Enya all the way to Pleasant Grove, Utah and arrived in jeans, exhausted just in time for the viewing. My sister, started throwing dresses at me ~ as this is LDS or Mormon territory and she tried not to gag at the heavy duty smell of my body. As I had driven into the driveway and parked my car, I had no idea that the cigarette I put out would be my last but that's how it ended out to be. My last. No fuzz, no fanfare. Just done. At the viewing, my father was consumed with grief and I made a decision on the spot to spend the first year helping him transition into life without her. This is where Nicorette gum entered my life and replaced one addiction with another but who cares about the small details, it worked and I was able to be among all the Mormons who stick their noses up at the very smell of so-called "sin, " and go along my merry way. Where I believe our addictions come from is the betrayal of Atlantis ~ things were heaven like and then it ended in the most brutal manner and grief often overcomes us but we know not it's origin. Once we realize that other factors help make us feel this great longing and that it is pretty much universal, although we each get to choose our habit of choice, it is easy to move forward into the light of a happier day. Another word of caution at this time of amazing changes is that we have no power over what others have chosen as their path. Some contracted to work from the other side of the Fifth Dimension and they are leaving in huge numbers including our animals and other loved ones and friends. Soon, the earth is ascending with those of us who are assisting in this new birth of a new earth. At that time, all of us, will be reunited, so the time span is very short even when these others leave and we will be able to see them again. Many fabulous reunions will take place and we will be renited from our whole star family from these days and the days of old. Don't worry right now about whether you feel the need for a cig or not. The gum helps greatly or it made it possible for me to survive some heavy challenges and it can help you, too. I ask that a great understanding and sympathy and compassion come upon you concerning your own body and it's great service to you. Honor yourself, love yourself, be kind to yourself and all good things will follow. My love and big hugs to you, sweetheart. I ask for and receive blessings upon your parents that their days may be filled with peace, hope, and a sense of wellbeing. I ask that they be free from pain and further suffering and that you will be a great blessings to them at this point in a time of great changes. Be of good cheer for there are only winners from here to eternity ; ) xoxox

Dear Unified Serenity
I think Darla has hit the nail on the head in that you mustn't stress yourself out about having to quit exactly right this instant- you have so much on your plate what with your parents being ill; take one day at a time, know that you'll quit and be thankful for it. Believe it because you believe in yourself. I too was a smoker and I know a little of what you're going through. But go easy on yourself, try and find a little calm in the storm first and start from there.
Sending you love, positivity & blessings.
Take care & be strong
because you have it in you, don't doubt it for a second :)

I wish you all the strength you will need. I gave up smoking when I had flu and had not been able to get outside for a cigarette for three days. Then, the taste of the first cigarette was so horrible I didn't want another. So - if you can get through just three days without a cigarette, the rest will be easier.
Sending you and your family strength and healing!!
With love,
Jessamy.
