From dictatorship to democracy without violence is easy.
Dictatorship: the appearance of one - 'same as' - Communism: the government (the appearance of the few) control corporations - 'same as' - Democracy: the corporations (the non-appearance of the few) control the government = (in theory) 51% of the population can take away the rights of 49% = corporate policy rules the people as they have been made into 'law' (voluntary compliance) = Dictatorship (the CEO or president) controls. Which government is being forced around the world and by whom!?
The use of nonlethal weapons =
'soft-kill' tactics by the ruling class: (unseen) financially compromising a person and family, so they cannot afford to eat, a place to live, healthcare, education, etc.; the use of chemicals in the food and water supply; injections and the release of bio-agents - (seen) discrediting, misinformation, 'laws', imprisonment, 'stun-guns', gases, sprays, sound weapons, intimidation, etc. Extreme - the use of force, lethal weapons, terror(ist) acts, creating fear (being fear), etc.
Those opposing or wanting change = (passive) voices, photos, groups, signs, voices - or - (aggressive) disobedience, strike, non-consenting, independence, truth, strength in numbers.
The alternative... well, no sane human being wants the alternative. However, which is worse!?
Republic: the people control each other = 99% of the population cannot take the rights away from the 1%.
Get 'off the grid', become sovereign human beings, forget old ways, work together and build a better future - using natural law to govern. Use communal policing to keep order and collective shared thoughts by groups to govern the masses. No currency, as all contribute to the social community in 'minor' or in 'major' - and all have access to the benefits created by the efforts of all. In addition, watch for those who want the 'old ways' back.
It is as simple as that.

Somewhere in my office I have a photo of a humvee that is 100% styrofoam. An old woman with a walker could easily pull it (if ithe styrofoam humvee was on a skateboard).
That said, there must be something that ignites the anger of the people. Said anger can then be directed against the regime. In the case of North Africa and the other Arab states, it's the increased in food prices along with high unemployment among the youth (and college educated) as well as poor living conditions.

From his publications list, it seems to be the same person.
The only problem I have with the idea is that people will say, look at Egypt and Tunisia therefore, this will always be the way.
That would be drawing a long bow.
