The comfort zone is a behavioural state within which a person operates in an anxiety-neutral condition, using a limited set of behaviours to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense of risk.
A person's personality can be described by his or her comfort zones. Highly successful persons may routinely step outside their comfort zones, to accomplish what they wish. A comfort zone is a type of mental conditioning that causes a person to create and operate mental boundaries. Such boundaries create an unfounded sense of security. Like inertia, a person who has established a comfort zone in a particular axis of his or her life, will tend to stay within that zone without stepping outside of it. To step outside a person's comfort zone, they must experiment with new and different behaviours, and then experience the new and different responses that then occur within their environment.
I think that most of use are stepping out of our comfort zones with many of the topics in discussion in recent weeks. This a good mental excersise for all of us to experience together. It certainely is an uncomfortable thing to step in and out of the comfort zone we are all used to living in. Whether it be physical or mental you feel the differences. In talking with some people over the last week I have found that this is indeed the case. My suggestion to them was to take everything in with moderation.
When confronted with many new unexplored frontiers, it is very easy to become overwhelmed and confused. Sometimes triggering anxiety reactions which can compound other emotional feelings. It is healthy to sometimes simply step back and enjoy other things like going for a walk, engaging in a hobby or spending time with loved ones away from these things. Take the time to breath, absorb and process all this new information. It is very tempting to press on and overload yourself, dont do it.
So where is your comfort zone and how comfortable are you stepping out of it? What are some of the things you experience when you are out of the zone? I am willing to bet you will find many similarities with others here.
