not sure if this belongs here, but i thought it was interesting and its by science friday, so i'm going with that, lol.

Can't see the video at work, but I've read that American Indians were shocked to find white people walking on their beaches. They could not imagine large ships coming in from distant waters, so they had no reference point from which to see them sailing in. Just was not in their reality. Interesting if true.

Thanks LeoNorth for this interesting video. His "predictive remapping of attention" fills in another missing link in the visual process.
Reminds me of another I watched last year where this temporary blindness, known as a saccade, is used to good effect by sleight-of-hand magicians and pickpockets.
