KABUL, Afghanistan — Nine boys collecting firewood to heat their homes in the eastern Afghanistan (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/news/international/countriesandterritories/afghanistan/index.html?inline=nyt-geo) mountains were killed by NATO (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/organizations/n/north_atlantic_treaty_organization/index.html?inline=nyt-org) helicopter gunners who mistook them for insurgents, according to a statement on Wednesday by NATO, which apologized for the mistake.

The boys, who were 9 to 15 years old, were attacked on Tuesday in what amounted to one of the war’s worst cases of mistaken killings by foreign-led forces. The victims included two sets of brothers. A 10th boy survived.

The NATO statement, which included an unusual personal apology by the commander of the NATO forces in Afghanistan, Gen. David H. Petraeus (http://topics.nytimes.com/top/reference/timestopics/people/p/david_h_petraeus/index.html?inline=nyt-per), said the boys had been misidentified as the attackers of a NATO base earlier in the day. News of the attack enraged Afghans and led to an anti-American demonstration on Wednesday in the village of Nanglam, where the boys were from. The only survivor, Hemad, 11, said his mother had told him to go out with other boys to collect firewood because “the weather is very cold now.

Thank you for posting this IrishSpirit, an apology doesn't cut it...how do you apologize to a father who had to pick his son up in the bits and pieces you can find, the head is never recovered?!? I heard about this earlier and it made me sick to think that crimes like these are done in my name, because I'm American. Shameful doesn't come close....this is pure evil at work.

We're creating a whole generation of people who will hate us, it's never ending perpetual war as they create new enemys to fight for the next 100 years.

They know who their enemy is and they know that there is massive objections in the west to the Afghanistan war.

I am ashamed to be born in a country that is too gutless to say no to the Americans.

I don't know why you are all surprised, a war machine needs things to chew up.
When it sits around idle, it gets hungry.

You know what, this has to stop... Saying sorry it was a mistake is not good enough, what a sick unjust world we are currently living in.... The more stuff like this is exposed the better. No more denial we need accountability.

Yes, I think this is exactly what the military-industrial complex has planned for.

Sickening.

My heart goes out to the families of the boys. I wonder how many atrocities like this occur which are kept "out of sight"?

You know Bob it says NATO so it could just as well be the UK or troops from other countries, and its not like our government's actually care about the opinion of the people. As there has been many many protests in the UK, US and other places to stop this war. In the news all we hear about are the deaths of our soldiers and al Qaeda but we almost never hear of the civilians innocently killed by both sides.

The thing that really gets me about this particular story is and I'm not a military man but don't these helicopters have some impressive camera equipment onboard they should of easily been able to tell if these where children or insurgents.

Yes linz2d it does say Nato forces, that were responding to an attack at the AMERICAN base in the valley below, and Nato helicopters were sent out in response to that, OK there is a possibility that they were not american pilots but i know who my money is on in regards to what flag was flying, probably the same flag that was flying in IRAQ on the day that an american helicopter murdered inocent people in the street, would you like to see the video of that incident. and yea they do have good cameras on board, i watched in grafic detail as these people were mown down , and repeatedly shot to make sure they were dead, and then to hear a guy in the helicopter say Good shooting.

All I gotta say about all this is "It is every easy to shoot at someone from a helicopter and not get your hands dirty, but it is a different story when you get up-close and personal".......THIS WAS A COWARDLY ACT in my view, I have nothing else to say on this matter as it really disgust the S**t out of me!!!

All wars currently under way and those America is bristling to attack next like Iran are atrocities, illegal, and destructive. No benefits will ever come of this genocide. Whatever is killed externally, is killed internally. Imagine the damage for those doing these acts. Like the United Nations, Nato is funded by the U.S. using your tax dollars at work. Since many are still not aware of the inside job of 911 that enabled Bush to declare war on the world, it needs to be the first order of business that see's the light of a new accountability that is sweeping the world. It's the only thing that would stop everything in it's tracks and require new assessments by all people everywhere. Most Americans still do not understand nor want to ~ no matter how much information and evidence is out there. Oh, sorry I thought this was the Party Forum. xoxox

Thats what they want is for everyone to blame america, so they can take us down. Then, how will that effect the whole world.

They want u to Hate Americans. This is the globalist machine and many many countries are in on this global takeover. Just because American war machine is their tool, doesnt mean its really America.

Yes, we should stop it. But , where did all this mind control black magic wisdom come from. Not America. Egypt, Babylon, etc.

We need help. We are all in this together.

These wars are all abominations run for profit at our expense. They are crimes against humanity, plain and simple. The reason they are occurring is because the sociopaths are in charge. They have lots of money, lots of power, and no empathy or shame. There is something horribly wrong with this picture. Horribly wrong.

The horror....

Agreed Chico. By I would add something to that.

I believe its the little sociopath in most of us that is compounded and manifests in the whole. So, the masses are so powerful our unpure minds add up creating a spell in the matrix that imprisons the elite into their mind set. Im not saying they are not responsible but we have to be part to blame too. Its our denial that this negativity doesnt exist in many of our shadow selves that manifests as the shadow govt.

Its not that anybody in particular must fall victim, there is free will , but en masse , its inevitable for a number to fall under the "spell." We wake up and they wake up. All is one.

I think lol

I can't even think of something relevant to say. It's all such a dreadful waste. Humans killing humans - men killing children - how do they sleep at night? What goes on in their heads?
Such inane questions.
I just didn't want to visit this thread silently.

Hi Icecold,

There is no such thing as the Afghanistan war. It is an invasion. No war was declared between the two nations.

Also the NATO commander in chief should be tried at the ICC, just as the International community is trying to do with Ghaddafi, because they bombed civilian targets, thus making it a crime against humanity.

But, of course we all know this world is not as just as we'd like it to be.

Best regards,

Steve

Im not saying they are not responsible but we have to be part to blame too. Its our denial that this negativity doesnt exist in many of our shadow selves that manifests as the shadow govt.

Our part in the blame is miniscule compared to theirs. We should not lose sight of that fact. I know that if I had the power, I would shut down the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan immediately, as I suspect most of us would. Sociopaths primarily manifest themselves independently of non-sociopaths. It's a mistake for us to think that they are our creation. They are not. Actions speak louder than words, and the actions of the ruling sociopaths, despite the deceptive words they cloak them in, are clear. Death, destruction, suffering, deception, division... I'm sure I need not list them all. Our only fault is doing so little to stop them, and that too they have had a heavy hand in orchestrating.

We should examine the problem realistically. It's not non-sociopaths at the root of the problem. It's sociopaths. I realize there is some complex interplay between the two, but I also realize that if sociopaths did not have the power, everything would be very different and much improved.
