Hey all. My think tank is doing a small project regarding slang in intelligence communities and other type situations a bit like it. I figured I would involve forums in this project as my think tank has almost nobody within it that is active(It just started really. Well I started it October 26th 2010, but am just getting it off the ground now). I do not know much about this subject(a major reason why I want to know it, and started this thread, other than wanting to inform others as well).. I will start with the one that inspired me to do this(in a chat room)
Please keep the slang to words that are relevant and interesting to the modality of Project Avalon. I do not want slang for body parts, licking bums, or anything completely useless beyond the character of things. If you want to do that make a different thread please...
Honeypots.
In the IT industry, admins will sometimes set up fake servers to let hackers attack it. They record what they do and how they got in. They apply that to their servers so they can't be hacked as easily. Those servers are called honeypots. The Pentagon does this.
Please contribute anything you know regarding slang when it comes to 'in the know' type slang(intelligence community slang is a focus but not a requirement). I remember hearing one in a heather thread(or numerous). It was deleted from my memory. It had something to do with agents. I hope someone remembers this... I really really hope people will contribute to this thread. Lets all inform each other and collaborate what we know regarding these things.
Please use this format, unless you have a better one:
In quotes as to make it easier to read from the rest of the chatter in a post.
The slang word:In bold.
Definition here, separated from the slang word.
My think tank website just launched tonight. It can be found at this link: www.omniverseresearch.com. I aim to carry out many projects through this think tank. There is a distinct lack of think tanks for the benefit of mankind. I figured starting one would be a valid thing to do for humanity, but all credit for it's idea goes to my ET contacts. If you are interested in joining my think tank, check out my site and all of it's texts, then fill out an application if you wish to. :)
Thanks to all who contribute to this thread.
Edit Additions:
Hard Target
A person who sucessfully maintains a low profile/secrecy/or is hard to place surveillance on.
Hunting Pack
A surveillance team.
Illness
Arrest.
Black Site
Any classified facility for which the US government will deny existence.
Birdwatcher
Spy, term usually used in the UK.
Canary Trap
A canary trap is a method for exposing an information leak, that involves giving different versions of sensitive information to each of a group of suspects, and seeing which information gets leaked.
Dry Clean
To dry clean means to evade surveillance.
Wet Job/work
Euphemism for murder.
