I found following explanations from two different sites:


This was taken from Penelakut Island. Yes, there was a paraglider down, not on the ocean but by Prevost Mountain. Flares were shot off. Flares last 60 seconds max and they continue moving. They do not last 15 minutes and sit in one place. Also a similiar object was seen over Victoria at about the same time. Last but not least, take a look at rescue flare photos taken at night...they do not look like this.


You guys it is a big flare. What an idiot. This is a flare from a search and rescue effort that was put together to find a missing para glider. Way to freak your kids. Even your kid can see the smoke from it. the rotating effect is caused branches between the camera and flare. My god some people are so simple. Lay of the pot.

I don't know how "you guys" view these discrediting remarks made by this unpleasant individual, but they usually make me wonder what his motive really is. His name is Jayson1972, which would make him 39, considerably older than your average teenage rebel. On further investigation, his listed age differs from this. Although he adopts a Grey alien as his avatar, he seems bent on discrediting many other UFO videos posted on disclose.tv as fakes, even though they appear reasonably convincing. Hmm.

Let's find out more about the video. It was uploaded, though not created, by someone from the magazine True Blue Spirit.

This was filmed from Penelakut Island (Kuper) looking up and slightly West. This was taken the same night as the one in Victoria BC.

The person filming originally saw it falling from way up in the sky. It abruptly stopped (that's when he grabbed his video camera) and sat in the same place for 15 minutes (there's more footage).

the full title of the other video I refer to is "Lights in the sky Vancouver Island Jan22 2011"....in some ways I think it's a better video..... the problem with this "chemainus ufo" video is there isn't enough reference to the background etc.... the other one does give a better idea of the actual size of the thing.....but they're both pretty awesome in they're own way.

@Wutzupthere We don't place a lot of reference to the background due to privacy issues. However I was told that the camera filming the incident had a 50 x zoom, and you already know where it was filmed from. Thank you for your interest in both our video and true blue spirit website.

@truebluespiritmag actually the same type of event was captured other video...check out "Lights in the sky Vancouver Island"...excellent footage as well shot in Duncan not far from where this was taken.....the? same strange entity however these did not seem to have the same patterns/streaks across the surface....damn I really really hope these are not frauds cause if proven to be for real this is some of the most compelling ufo footage out there!

I live in Nanaimo? right near where this happened....

A paraglider went down in the ocean and search and rescue responded with flares..... And with the cloud cover it created the image you see right now

@truebluespiritmag First thing I've learned afters years of ufology, never focus on ufo objects but watch your environment, take landmarks to estimate the? size after the observation. Don't just get it on record. Speak to neighbors after to have more than one sighter.

It is a ufo, in the definition. But the things moving may be some 'reflections' made by the camera recording a bright light or something out of visible light. The best will be to have a chromatic shot to know what it's made of...

@feckingud Everyone interprets everything? in a different way, and that's okay. Our differences are what makes this experience on earth special. I can tell you that we at True Blue Spirit Magazine would not have posted this if it had not come from a credible source. And we posted it as a UFO, because that is what it is...an unidentified flying object. And until someone can come forward with definite proof of exactly what it is, it remains a UFO.

how accurately is the camera describing the actual image during the zoomed in footage?..the official explanation is 6 flares dropped from a Buffalo search and rescue aircraft dispatched from CFB ...if that's the truth then common sense says this image we see is the camera distorting the flare into an orb like object..curious what people with experience in filming any kind of light at night think...btw I've been unable to find any vid clips of night time flares that come? even close to this....

@Wutzupthere Hi again Wutzupthere...lots of people writing both this sighting (and the one in Victoria that was taken at the same time) off to flares. There are a few questions that arise such as why did it drop from the sky like a meteor and then just sit still seeming to spin around, although the small orb at the bottom right doesn't spin but stays in? the same spot. Certainly doesn't match up with any flare videos or photos that I have been able to source.

I was suspecting that some of the same characteristics of this image and the "lights in the sky etc." video were in fact caused by some interference INSIDE the camera and today I think I've found some info? that proves my hunch correct..check out ?v=S7LQzq4MWl8 it clearly shows how artifacts/effects can be caused by focus/defocus actions and probably accounts for 90% of the so called "orbs' filmed ..I'm still a strong believer in ufo's but we have to consider all possibilities..

and just to clarify ...even though his example is how he is able to turn Venus into a diamond shape he points out that different cameras can produce different shapes and the conditions while filming can also effect the outcome..I'm not claiming? this debunks every video of every ufo sighting but it is something to keep in mind when viewing ..and to be fair there's still things about this vid that have yet to be explained.

@themystirus Hi, thanks for commenting about my video, we live about 15-20 away from Chemainus, the same footage was also taken in Victoria, BC, which is about an hour away over the Malahat mountains, so if there was a search and rescue, how could the so called flare be seen all the way in Victoria? Thats my question!!! Also the footage taken in Victoria, the object was moving sideways, horizontaly through the trees! Check out the footage taken in Victoria same date, around the same,? same date.

While driving home from Nanaimo around 7:00pm I saw it as well, and by the time I got home to Chemainus it disappeared. Weird stuff.

I personally think this is much more likely to be a true UFO than a flare.
