Japan is disected by 3 Plate boundarys, Japan is infact a Volcano in itself. Pacific rim is 2 plate boundarys that grind together 24/7...all related areas on the rim have been triggered due to this massive energy release built up by the grinding of plates.

Hi Guys, my heart and prayers go out to you and your family Ski. Referring to what Jake said earlier about being in tears, I too have not been taking this too well. Even though we've been anticipating these kind of earth changes for a while now, I have been panicked since the beginning of this disaster and close to tears all day. Then something very strange overtook me and I became very sleepy in the early evening. I slept from 8 pm till 12 pm ! I've never done such a thing.

The quakes in Japan started on the 9th, preceded by a few 6ers in other places in the previous days as you can see here:

Although the K index was high days earlier, the Solare storm started on the 10th:

The sun was producing Calss M flares as early as the 7th and the X class flare on the 9th.

Yiola, I feel/felt it too.
All day yesterday I was just sad. I couldn't put my finger on why. I looked for any reasons for it and although there are a few as my life is far from perfect, none of them was proportional to the sadness I was feeling and still am. Cried a lot yesterday and could to sleep or get anything productive done.
As soon as I heard what had happened in Japan, I thought, 'yes, THIS is why I fell so emotionally drained'.
Is it possible that we are now so 'plugged in' to the Earth and the consciousness of humanity that we are feeling these things before devastation occurs?

How many more times will we sit at home with eyes transfixed on our screens as we watch the unfolding calamity.
To us observers, it feels so unreal and far removed from reality. And yet, to the victims, how cruel and bewildering it must seem to have to face something of this extent and magnitude.
Words are never adequate of course. No amount of good wishes and thoughts can compensate for the loss and chaos that inevitably ensues such a tragedy.
May the full tenure of human solidarity be with all of you and may we extend our sincere wishes for a speedy return to some sort of normality for all those affected.
To the families and friends of those who have perished, no set of words or condolences can ever replace or repair the damage done; but know that we are with you and that you are not alone.

Japan declares a state of atomic power emergency and races to evacuate residents near reactors while Tokyo braces for aftershocks.
Japanese nuclear officials say radiation levels inside a nuclear power plant have surged to 1000 times their normal levels.
The nuclear safety agency said early Saturday that some radiation has also seeped outside the plant, prompting calls for further evacuations of the area. Some 3000 people have already been urged to leave their homes.

I snitched this from Giovonni:
Latest Temblor An Interplate Quake: Meteorological Agency
Saturday, March 12, 2011
TOKYO (Nikkei)--The major earthquake that struck northeastern Japan on Friday had the hallmarks of an interplate quake, which occurs at the boundary between two tectonic plates.
At the area near the epicenter, the North American plate, on which part of the Japanese archipelago lies, slips under the Pacific plate. The temblor was likely triggered when the North American plate snapped upward, releasing the accumulated strain.
The earthquake occurred near the site of another tremor that shook Miyagi Prefecture on Wednesday, so the earlier quake may have been a foreshock, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
"There aren't many instances in which such a large earthquake occurs right after a magnitude 7-class quake," said an official at the agency. "This is a highly unusual case."
The agency warns that aftershocks registering around magnitude 7 could take place over the next month.
Major quakes have occurred off the coast of Miyagi Prefecture about every 40 years, the previous being a magnitude 7.4 temblor in 1978. Government experts had expected that one registering between 7.5 and 8 would hit, but the latest packed a wallop of magnitude 8.8.
The plate may have shifted over a stretch of several hundred kilometers along the fault on Friday, according to the agency, with some experts putting the figure at upwards of 400-500km.
"In last year's magnitude 8.8 earthquake in Chile, the fault is said to have moved over a span of about 800km, so the latest quake may be similar," said Kyoto University Professor Manabu Hashimoto.
Friday's interplate earthquake is different from the Great Hanshin Earthquake that rocked the Kobe area in 1995, which was an intraplate quake.

Non-physical phenomena being experienced as physical. Emotions cause this - and massed emotion causes a "disturbance in the force" that is palpable to sensitive people.
Think of it as if you are out walking being buffeted by a strong wind - just retain your balance and keep taking steps, try not to fall over and you will be allright. If you do fall over, someone will be there with a hand to get you back up again (if you want).

Well yes it is benevolent crow. It’s quite wide of the truth. According to reports here in the UK BBC & Sky News the Japanese authorities have released some pressure from the reactor core to atmosphere in order to manage the situation. This sounds quite sensible, according to industry commentators here. So no it hasn’t gone into meltdown.
Reports say Japan has one of the most advanced nuclear industries, so I’m sure they have trained for this before. The US Air Force is also flying in supplies according to Mrs Clinton.

JAKARTA, Indonesia – One of Indonesia's most active volcanos has erupted, sending lava and searing gas clouds tumbling down its slopes.
Volcanology official Agus Budianto said Friday that authorities were still trying to evacuate residents living along the slopes of Mount Karangetang.
There were no immediate reports of injuries or serious damage.
The 5,853-foot (1,784-meter) mountain is located on Siau, part of the Sulawesi island chain. It last erupted in August, killing four people.

In the Russian Far East, there has been a strong volcanic eruption. The air got a great cloud of volcanic dust, which can pose a threat to air traffic in the region.
Local experts warn that, dust can rise up to a height of seven kilometers.
Explosions were accompanied by minor earthquakes. Russian service monitoring the activity of cones, however, ensure that the implemented measures guarantee the safety of residents of neighboring towns.
According to Russian media reports, the first cloud of dust covered the city of Ust-Kamczatsk. Over five thousand people are forced to stay at home. The authorities have recommended the strict ban on opening windows.

The thing is Fred - if the media say that the nuclear reactor has gone into meltdown it makes people freak out, but, if they say that they are no longer able to cool the reactor, people don't realise that it means that the nuclear reactor has gone into meltown and they are calmer about it.
Keeping in mind the news didn't even report all the earthquakes prior to the big ones.
Our abc news hadn't reported on the Russian volcano or the Japan volcano when I last looked.
So - I would be wary about trusting the official version to keep people all that informed.
Of course CNN could be full of it. Didn't they report the fall of one of the 911 buildings before it actually fell? Still - it did fall eventually.

I agree with you about Media manipulation but these guys sitting at home and posting on You Tube and calling themselves news outlets, come on what do they know about what’s going on.
So they have let some pressure go, rather than let it overheat, is that not sensible. The local population has been moved back 6 miles as a precaution, so how is this going to danger people in West Coast US…. It isn’t…
What’s more a concern is the volcanic ash from these eruptions, that might shut down air travel in west coast US, and around Northern Aus…

http://www.ucsusa.org/
here is the site with the Union of Concerned Scientists press release and article should they publish any updates about a meltdown
excerpt:
If battery power is depleted before AC power is restored, however, the RCIC will stop supplying water to the core and the water level in the reactor core could drop. If it drops far enough, the core would overheat and the fuel would become damaged. Ultimately, a “meltdown” could occur: the core could become so hot that it forms a molten mass that melts through the steel reactor vessel. This would release a large amount of radioactivity from the vessel into the containment building that surrounds the vessel.
The containment building’s main purpose is to keep radioactivity from being released into the environment. A meltdown would build up pressure in the containment building. At this point we do not know if the earthquake damaged the containment building enough to undermine its ability to contain the pressure and allow radioactivity to leak out.
Well Ok that’s true, but Im sure they are trying to restore AC power, if they don’t I’m certain they can fly in or truck in temporary standby AC power until they get the main generators going…Come on folks this is Japan, they are serious engineers if it was Zimbabwe yes I would understand your concern…

From the "intention" thread...
Reactor cores *can* be cooled in ways that scientists cannot yet explain - it happened to Chernobyl's one. I think ET helped.
It may take a few days. Every day - cool it - quiet the furnace.
Keep at it - don't get disheartened if it doesn't stop immediately - because it may not.
Don't forget the other areas that will need your help as well.
The media is going to try to scare the living crap out of as many people as possible with this.
Don't feel that - its a choice.
Hold onto your core confidence - and you will carry those around you as well
It is bad, but keep up the efforts to cool it - we can - set the intent, let the universe do its thing.
This is the best we can do - because we are not there.
Fear will blunt your edge.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-12711707 < Video in here.
Japanese authorities have declared a state of emergency at two nuclear power plants, after Friday's devastating earthquake caused malfunctions.
Cooling systems inside several reactors at the ***ushima 1 and 2 power plants have stopped working properly, leading to a build-up of pressure.
Thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate the area near the plants.
Technicians are starting to release vapour to lower the pressure in some of the reactors.
Some of the released gases could be radioactive, but officials insisted the procedure would pose no risk to the public.
Radioactivity levels in the control room of the ***ushima 1 plant were reportedly running at 1,000 times normal.
The earthquake knocked out the power supply to the plants, which then automatically shut down.
But it seems that back-up generators at ***ushima 1 designed to power the plant's basic functions also failed.
Two reactors at the ***ushima 1 plant were left without sufficient cooling.
And officials later said they were unable to control the cooling systems in three reactors at ***ushima 2 plant, 11km (seven miles) south of ***ushima 1.
Wind factor
Under Japanese law, an emergency must be declared if a cooling system fails, if there is a release of radiation, or if there is a dangerous level of water in the reactor.
Prime Minister Naoto Kan declared the emergency. He announced the evacuations after visiting the plant.
AFFECTED POWER PLANTS.
Onagawa - all three reactors shut down automatically.
***ushima Daiichi - reactors 1,2 and 3 shut down automatically; reactors 4,5 and 6 were not in operation; reactor 1 and one other were not cooling as expected.
***ushima Daini - all four reactors shut down automatically, three experiencing cooling problems.
Tokai - single operational reactor shut down automatically.
Defence officials said troops trained in chemical disasters had been sent to the plants in case of a radiation leak.
Earlier, the authorities say they are taking wind direction into account when planning the release of radioactive vapour, which they insist would not be in quantities big enough to affect human health.
"It's possible that radioactive material in the reactor vessel could leak outside but the amount is expected to be small and the wind blowing towards the sea will be considered," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told a news conference.
The six reactors at ***ushima 1 came online in the 1970s; ***ushima 2 has four reactors, built during the 1980s.
All nuclear facilities in Japan are designed to withstand earthquakes.
But experts say there appears to have been multiple failures at the ***ushima facilities, raising serious questions about the safety of Japan's reactors.
The reactors at ***ushima 1 are Boiling Water Reactors (BWR), one of the most commonly used designs, and widely used throughout Japan's fleet of nuclear power stations.
Heat is produced by a nuclear reaction in the core, causing the water to boil, producing steam. The steam is directly used to drive a turbine, after which it is cooled in a condenser and converted back to water. The water is then pumped back into reactor core, completing the loop.
In total, the country has 55 reactors providing about one-third of the nation's electricity.

Novosti Press Agency - Moscow - 04.30UTC
An 8.9-magnitude earthquake and subsequent tsunami claimed the lives of hundreds of people in Japan, devastating some areas and echoing worldwide.
"As of 09:00 local time (00:00 GMT), 236 people were killed and 725 are missing, 1,028 received injuries of varying degrees," a police source said.
The NHK channel said the death toll nears 400, with more than 700 people missing.
The tremor, the most powerful ever recorded in Japan, affected nine prefectures. The tsunami wave which followed was up to ten meters high and swept away houses and cars. Japanese authorities estimate the overall death toll to be well above 1,000.
Many coastal areas in Pacific, Southeast Asia and Latin America, including Russia, Indonesia, New Zealand, Chile and the Philippines, were put on tsunami alert.
The quake also caused Asian stocks to tumble. The Nikkei Stock Average fell 1.7% to 10254.43, its lowest close since January 31. The Hong Kong Hang Seng index fell 1.6%, and South Korea's Composite index fell 1.3%, the Wall Street Journal said.
Experts say that, according to preliminary calculations, the earthquake probably shifted the figure axis of the Earth by 15 cm and made earthday 1.6 microseconds shorter.
Russia braces for more waves
A four-meter tsunami wave forced evacuation of about 11,000 at Kuril Islands in the Russian Far East, but no serious damage was recorded. Russian experts say more waves may strike the Kuril Archipelago and the Sakhalin Island.
"The tsunami alert remains in force for southern Kurils and the south of the Sakhalin island, our experts expect more tremors and are on high alert," the head of the Russian Hydrometeorological Center, Alexander Frolov, said in an interview with Russia's Rossiya 24 TV channel.
The earthquake may also trigger volcanic and seismic activity in the Kuril Islands and Sakhalin, which are part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
Neither the tremor, nor the tsunami affected infrastructure objects being built for the 2012 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit to be held in Russia's Vladivostok, architects said.
Supermoon blamed
Experts in Russia and worldwide attribute the quake to increased solar activity and the 'supermoon' phenomenon.
Next week the Earth will witness the so-called "supermoon phenomenon," when the Moon will be at its closest, at just about 356,600 km (some 221,500 miles). Some scientists say the natural satellite's gravitational pull may affect tectonic activity and tidal waves.
"By studying powerful quakes in Chile, Sumatra and Haiti, we discovered that a certain factor was important, namely the influence of tidal waves. The thing is that the quakes occurred below the ocean bed, and tidal waves may have been the cause," Russian astronomer Leonid Zotov said.
"Taking into consideration a weak link between Moon orbit and earthquakes we might possibly expect a slight increase in seismic activity around March 19. But fears of something catastrophic are groundless," his colleague Vladimir Surdin said.
Other scientists say the link between Moon's position and seismic activity on the Earth was too subtle to be taken into consideration.
"Influence of that kind seems highly unlikely to me," said seismologist and geologist Alexander Marakhanov. "Maybe there is some kind of interaction, but it is very difficult to establish the direct link between these two events."
Scientists say there is a "traditional candidate" to be blamed for the disaster - a less powerful earthquake which occurred near Japan's largest Honshu Island several days ago.
Earthday becomes shorter
The quake probably shifted the figure axis of the planet by 15 cm and made earthday 1.6 microseconds shorter, NASA scientist Richard Gross told RIA Novosti. Italian scientists said on Friday that the figure axis shifted by 10 cm.
Russian astronomer Leonid Zotov said the statements are unlikely to be ever proved in practice.
"No one ever managed to trace and record such changes," he said. "No official data was ever presented to confirm such reports."
Nuclear leak feared
Several nuclear plants along the Japanese coast were also partially shut down.
Gennady Onishchenko, Russia's chief sanitary official, ordered to use all available equipment to monitor radiation levels in Russian Far East as emergency situation was declared at two Japanese nuclear power plants.
According to the most recent measurements in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, radiation levels were normal.
Increased radiation levels were registered at the ***ushima-1 nuclear plant in northeast Japan as power shortages caused the reactor to overheat, the Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) said. People living within the 10-km range from the plant were told to evacuate.
In some parts of the plant, radiation levels rose up to 1,000 times above the norm, and are about eight times above the norm outside the station, the Kyodo news agency said on Saturday.
Later on, the state of emergency was also declared after a cooling system of three reactor units failed at the neighboring ***ushima-2 NPP, just some 12 km from ***ushima-1, Associated Press said.
Kyodo also reported explosions at two major Nissan factories and a fire in a turbine building at the Onagawa nuclear power plant in the Miyagi prefecture. There was also a fire at an oil refinery in Ichihara city in the Chiba prefecture near Tokyo.
Russian tourists found, student reported missing
Ten Russian tourists, who went missing after the quake, were found, a spokeswoman for the Russian union of travel industry said.
The tourists, who were part of a group of 18 travelling with the Vand International travel company, will fly to Moscow at 5:30 local time on Saturday.
The Russian embassy in Tokyo is trying to establish contact with a Russian student, who was studying in the tsunami-hit city of Sendai.
"There are no reports that any Russians were killed or injured in the quake," a source in the Russian embassy said.

G'day All,
Just an aside from this witty banter.
I don't know whether I even need to post this from Space Weather (http://www.spaceweather.com/) but here ya go:
UPDATE (March 10 @ 1800 UT): Newly-arriving coronagraph data from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory show no bright CME emerging from this eruption. Some material was surely hurled in our direction, but probably not enough for significant Earth-effects.
I am unsure as to whether these events are linked (I haven't looked into it as of yet any takers?) however the coincidence is at the least interesting. Specially given the mild geomagnetic storm event we are currently in (http://www.n3kl.org/sun/noaa.html).

If you watch the video posted by Gaia, you'll see the whirlpool is being created by the geometry of the harbor's jetties controlling the tsunami inflow.

Anyone ?
Looks to me like a fault opened up , and the water is running down into it under the plate. Id like to know if it stops or not naturally.
So, from the looks of it, no major fault, sinkhole or portal; just the wave gushing within into the harbor.
Later videos of the scene cut out that important overview... one wonders (may be not) why?

I was looking for a meltdown explanation I could understand and found this one"
It is impossible for any PWR or LWR nuclear reactor to explode like an atomic bomb. This is because in order for an uncontrolled chain reaction to occur that is similar to an atom bomb, the uranium fuel must be extremely enriched, much more than the 4% 235U that is present in regular, commercial nuclear reactor fuel. So, if it can't explode, what does happen in a nuclear reactor?
The answer is what is called a meltdown. When a meltdown occurs in a reactor, the reactor "melts". That is, the temperature rises in the core so much that the fuel rods actually turn to liquid, like ice turns into water when heated.
If the core continued to heat, the reactor would get so hot that the steel walls of the core would also melt. In a complete reactor meltdown, the extremely hot (about 2700 Celsius) molten uranium fuel rods would melt through the bottom of the reactor and actually sink about 50 feet into the earth beneath the power plant. The molten uranium would react with groundwater, producing large explosions of radioactive steam and debris that would affect nearby towns and population centers.
In general a nuclear meltdown would occurr if the reactor loses its coolant. This is what occured in the two disasters that we will discuss. Without coolant, the core's temperature would rise, resulting in the meltdown scenario we explained above.
You may be wondering, "Why can't they just drop the control rods in the reactor if it starts to get out of control?". The answer is that they can. The problem is that, even if the control rods are completely dropped in and the nuclear chain reaction stops, the reactor is still extremely hot and will not cool down unless coolant is put back in. The residual heat and the heat produced from the decay of the fission products are enough to drive the core's temperature up even if the nuclear chain reaction stops.
http://library.thinkquest.org/17940/texts/nuclear_disasters/nuclear_disasters.html
As said before the States sent some coolant over. I dont know if this will be enough given the residual heat produced. Do we have any nuke experts here - Is this what we could expect if the power is turned off
Addit:
18.55pm: An official with Japan's nuclear safety commission says that a meltdown at nuclear power plant affected by the country's massive earthquake is possible.
Ryohei Shiomi said officials were checking whether a meltdown had taken place at the ***ushima Dai-ichi power plant.

A mammoth relief mission is swinging into action in north-east Japan, a day after a devastating earthquake and tsunami claimed hundreds of lives.
Whole villages have been washed away and at least one town has been largely destroyed. Police said 215,000 people have fled their homes.
The tsunami was triggered by Japan's biggest earthquake since records began.
Meanwhile nuclear officials said they were checking whether a damaged reactor had gone into meltdown. The government had earlier declared a state of emergency at five nuclear reactors as cooling systems failed.
Analysts say a meltdown would not necessarily lead to a major disaster because light-water reactors would not explode even if they overheated.
Roland Buerk
BBC News, Tokyo
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was only when the sun came up that a more complete picture of devastation began to become a little bit more clear.
From the air it was clear that what had been paddy fields and villages are now sea-water lagoons. The water came in with the tsunami in some places and hasn't gone out again. It must have been very difficult for rescuers to get to those areas during the night.
The scale of the devastation has become clearer too. Overnight we heard snippets of information - 300 bodies found in one ward of one city. In another town, 300 homes engulfed by a wave that came in at rooftop height. Now local media are reporting that a town in Iwate prefecture, home of 23,000 people, has been largely destroyed.
The 8.9-magnitude tremor struck in the afternoon local time on Friday off the coast of Honshu island at a depth of about 24km, 400km (250 miles) north-east of Tokyo.
It was nearly 8,000 times stronger than last month's quake in New Zealand that devastated the city of Christchurch, scientists said.
Japanese police told Kyodo news agency 398 people are confirmed to have died and 805 more are missing; other media outlets put the death toll above 400.
The country's military has mobilised thousands of troops, 300 planes and 40 ships for the relief effort.
Prime Minister Naoto Kan visited the disaster zone by helicopter early on Saturday.

Hi everyone,
I'm 300km away from the F.U.Kushima plant.
There are 5 of us and the roads and hotels are a no no.. but we have a big van, our houses are not exactly air-proof. Old wooden type. Don't know what to do..
If it leaks or blows up or whatever I have no chance.. or do I.. any advice or information would be really helpful.
Now I don't give monkeys ass about the aftershocks .. in fact when one comes I do a little dance. It's just this nuclear plant stuff.. what can you do against that?
I'm now watching these kids playing in the street ..without a care in the world. How refreshing to see. I turn inside and I'm faced with a huge dilemma. Can't run
and can't hide from this so I can only wait. I really hope my instincts to just stay put is the best choice.

The news reporters are realling hamming the nuclear thing, its creating fear, we have to overcome that, repel the negative vibes. we can feel sad, but still have to pump out the positive energy to help.

Hi all,
Lastnight I saw a 8.9, then an 8.8 then an 8.4 then revised to 8.9. The same Quake.
The Japanese "shindo" scale for measuring earthquakes is more commonly used in Japan than the Richter scale to describe earthquakes. Shindo refers to the intensity of an earthquake at a given location, i.e. what people actually feel at a given location, while the Richter scale measures the magnitude of an earthquake, i.e. the energy an earthquake releases at the epicenter.
The shindo scale ranges from shindo one, a slight earthquake felt only by people who are not moving, to shindo seven, a severe earthquake. Shindo two to four are still minor earthquakes that do not cause damage, while objects start to fall at shindo five, and heavier damage occurs at shindo six and seven.
So...this may be the cause of some confusion...nevertheless...this quake is a monster.

How to protect yourself against nuclear radiation
Just in case......
In 1945, at the time of the atomic bombing of Japan, Tatsuichiro Akizuki, M.D. was Director of the Department of Internal Medicine at St. Francis's Hospital in Nagasaki. Most patients in the hospital, located one mile from the center of the blast, survived the initial effects of the bomb, but soon after came down with symptoms of radiation sickness from the fallout that has been released.
Dr. Akizuki fed his staff and patients a strict diet of brown rice, miso and tamari soy soup, wakame, kombu and other seaweed, Hokkaido pumpkin, and sea salt and prohibited the consumption of sugar and sweets.
As a result, he saved everyone in his hospital, while many other survivors perished from radiation sickness.
Source: Tatsuichiro Akuziki, M.D. Nagasaki 1945, London Quarter books, 1981. (Brown rice, miso, Sea vegetables, Salt)
In 1968 Canadian researchers reported that sea vegetables contained a polysaccharide substance that selectively bound radioactive strontium and helped eliminate it from the body. In laboratory experiments, sodium alginate prepared from kelp, kombu, and other brown seaweeds off the Atlantic and pacific coasts was introduced along with strontium and calcium into rats. The reduction of radioactive particles in bone uptake, measured in the femur, reached as high as 80%, with little interference with calcium absorption.
The evaluation of biological activity of different marine algae is important because of their practical significance in preventing absorption of radioactive products of atomic fission as well as in their use as possible natural decontaminators.

WHOLE GRAINS PROTECT IN FIVE WAYS
Whole grains help to protect us from the deleterious health effects of radiation exposure in five ways:
1) Grains are low on the food chain. Although they may have been exposed to pollution and radiation, they do not have the concentration of contaminants that is found in meat and large fish, which are at the top of the food chain.
2) Important with respect to radiation protection is the high fiber and phosphorous contents in grains. The binding ability of these substances helps the body to remove poisons.
3) The bulking factor of grains lessens the intestinal transit time and so hasten the elimination of all toxins.
4) Being neither very acid nor very alkaline, grains help us to maintain the middle-range pH that has been found to increase our resistance to radiation.
5) Whole grains provide vitamin B6, which is indispensable for the thymus. In addition, their calcium content guards against uptake of radioactive strontium, and their vitamin E and selenium prevent cellular damage caused by free radicals.
(Ed: when the body lacks calcium it replaces it with srontium, a radioactive element. Both have identical atomic structures. The intake of refined/simple sugar/dairy products are the main causes of this depletion of calcium) (Identical structure Strontium and Calcium (pdf file))
THE FOODS BETTER TO AVOID
1) Refined, genetic modified and processed foods
2) Fatty foods (meat, dairy products)
3) Simple sugars (white sugar), soft drinks

Shielding design
Shielding reduces the intensity of radiation exponentially depending on the thickness.
This means when added thicknesses are used, the shielding multiplies. For example, a practical shield in a fallout shelter is ten halving-thicknesses of packed dirt, which is 90 cm (3 ft) of dirt. This reduces gamma rays by a factor of 1/1,024, which is 1/2 multiplied by itself ten times. Halving thicknesses of some materials, that reduce gamma ray intensity by 50% (1/2) include[2] (see also Kearney, ref):
Material Halving Thickness, inches Halving Thickness, cm Density, g/cm³ Halving Mass, g/cm²
lead 0.4 1.0 11.3 12
concrete 2.4 6.1 3.33 20
steel 0.99 2.5 7.86 20
packed soil 3.6 9.1 1.99 18
water 7.2 18 1.00 18
lumber or other wood 11 29 0.56 16
depleted uranium 0.08 0.2 19.1 3.9
air 6000 15000 0.0012 18
Column Halving Mass in the chart above indicates mass of material, required to cut radiation by 50%, in grams per square centimetre of protected area.
The effectiveness of a shielding material in general increases with its density.

http://pdf-ebooks.org/ebooks/the-radiation-pdf.pdf
this is the one i was after How to Help Support Your Body's Healing After Intense Radioactive or Radiation Exposure" (http://pdf-ebooks.org/download.php?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.radiationdetox.com%2Febook%2F0707RadiationDetox.pdf) - the introduction sounds like it could be useful.
I haven't read any of them myself, hope it never comes to you needing any of this information.
Wish you best!
Let me know if there is anything else i can help with...

As far as what caused the quake, and what caused the whirlpool, can we all agree that it is: unknown?
I dont care who says what, the fact is, none of us know = no theory can be ruled out due to the scientific concensus.
To SKI: Im not trying to panic you, but right about now, Id be packing up and heading for the hills ( as long as the hill isnt a volcano).
Love and peace to you from CA brother.
Ok...whether this was induced with help of humand hands or not....Personally I say not.
To boundary plates grinding past each other....one plate grinding under the other, pushing under it. This always happens...sometimes they get "stuck" then they become "unstuck" suddenly, this was the cause of this earthquake...the energy released was that of an 8.9 magnitude measurment; this is equal to 336 megatons or 1.41 EJ (Exajoule) (10^18 Joules)....1 Megaton (1,000,000 metric tonnes) ...This quake produced a serious amount of energy!
Whirlpools (Eddys or water sink hole) happen because of the interaction between rushing water and the geology of the coastline and seafloor. Whirlpools aren't unusual after waves of this size. Infact, if you research you can find past sightings of such things...again, it has to be a large Tsunami to create such a massive eddy (Whirlpool).

Triggered shock: Stress added by initial Earthquake pushes a nearby, already stressed fault over the point of rupture.

Hi Incider, I quickly skimmed through the guide. It has some very good and basic information. Thank-you. I particularly liked the info. about Iodine.
Everyone probably has that already in their medicine cabinet. It's something one can do without any ill side effects even if there is a possibility of being exposed to fallout.
When fallout is first anticipated, even though it has not yet arrived, have everybody begin wearing their dust protector filter masks. Everyone should commence taking their Potassium Iodide (KI) or Potassium Iodate (KIO3) tablets for thyroid protection against cancer causing radioactive iodine, a major constituent of nuclear weapons explosions. Or, if no tablets available, you can topically (on the skin) apply an iodine solution for a similar protective effect. (WARNING: Iodine solutions are NEVER to be ingested or swallowed.) For adults, paint 8 ml of a 2 percent tincture of Iodine on the abdomen or forearm, ideally at least 2 hours prior to possible exposure. For children 3 to 18, but under 150 pounds, only half that amount painted on daily, or 4 ml. For children under 3 but older than a month, half again, or 2 ml. For newborns to 1 month old, half it again, or just 1 ml. If your iodine is stronger than 2%, reduce the dosage accordingly. Absorption through the skin is not as reliable a dosing method as using the tablets, but tests show that it will still be very effective for most. Do not use if allergic to iodine. If at all possible, inquire of your doctor NOW if there is any reason why anybody in your household should not use iodine in a future nuclear emergency, just to be sure.

I was wondering, dear Avalon, did anyone else think that giant spiral in Japan's sea, generated by the earthquake, was the activation of a stargate--being that it was, in fact March 9...could it have anything to do with heralding in the 9th wave (as in Mayan Unity Consciousness)? No pun intended.
Please post your feelings on this and any insight.
Thank you.
It is almost certainly just an eddy in a harbour. At the very beginning of the video, it is clear that this is a harbour inside or behind a breakwater. Somehow, this got all blown out of proportion by some newscasters here in the USA, with comments about a crack in the earth's crust and water flowing down like a drain, etc. Just shows the lack of discernment in the mainstream media. It was referred to over and over as being "in the ocean off the coast of Japan" while just showing the close up, and not showing that it was in fact in a harbour. Since when is something behind a breakwater considered "in the ocean?" Whether this is simple sensationalism, or something more deliberately misleading is an open question.

OK, you don't see smoke rising in the direction of your plant?
In your predicament you don't have time to read books or grocery shopping. So do this:
Water and food you need, maybe for several days. Use tin containers if at all possible. If not there's no time now to worry about it.
With the quakes still occurring I would not recommend staying in the house. The best place for you guys to stay is UNDER YOUR VAN. Gather up everything and anything you can find to fill the gap between the ground and the van, as entirely as possible. Take bedding, food, and water with you. This is going to be your igloo and will offer the best protection under your circumstances.
If you don't have time to set that up then stay inside the van. But I gotta tell you that glass windows offer no shield whatsoever!
Under no circumstances inhale or ingest the open air. Always use a filter - rags, towels, etc. Whatever you can find.
Keep all bare skin covered at all times.
If this really happens you will have to stay in your igloo for 3 to 5 days, or until help arrives.
This info is from NBC Training.
Stay calm. Your wife and others will be much stronger.
Now Get Busy NOW!
Love You Man! :)

The total number of quakes shown here was by-far the highest that I had ever seen in over three years of monitoring these maps.

Thanks Harley for the visual. It seems the entire pacific plate is moving west. Likely this will continue with more subduction and more volcanism along the asian east coast, Indonesia and Australia east coast. Might even see ocean floor rise in some areas (east of the subduction zone).
This might relieve stress on the locked San Andreas for new activity there. Keep in mind however, the New Madrid rift is also pushing the north American plate west of the fault, westward as well which might keep the San Andreas locked.

IF (as far as I know at this moment, it's still an 'if') there is a meltdown at any of the nuclear reactors, the concern is about fallout. Gamma radiation is not an issue (unless perhaps you're inside the reactor building, and then you might have bigger problems!). Radioactive material is dangerous if breathed in, or ingested. Keeping your skin covered is also good advice. Perhaps something like a poncho is useful. It would seem that wind direction is the biggest factor in where this material goes, and I would think the officials are taking this into account in any evacuation orders. Rainfall is good in that it will bring much of any airborne material down. Radioactive material that settles onto food or water is dangerous if that is then ingested.
This is probably elaborated on in any book, etc. about nuclear fallout. This is just a very bare bones explanation.

taken from wikipedia re the fire event at seascale......
On the morning of Friday 11 October, when the fire was at its worst, eleven tons of uranium were ablaze. Temperatures were becoming extreme (one thermocouple registered 1,300°C) and the biological containment around the stricken reactor was now in severe danger of collapse. Faced with this crisis, the operators decided to use water. This was incredibly risky: molten metal oxidises in contact with water, stripping oxygen from the water molecules and leaving free hydrogen, which could mix with incoming air and explode, tearing open the weakened containment. Faced with a lack of other options, the operators decided to go ahead with the plan. About a dozen hoses were hauled to the charge face of the reactor; their nozzles were cut off and the lines themselves connected to scaffolding poles and fed into fuel channels about a metre above the heart of the fire.
Tom Tuohy then ordered everyone out of the reactor building except himself and the Fire Chief. All cooling and ventilating air entering the reactor was shut off. Tuohy once again hauled himself atop the reactor shielding and ordered the water to be turned on, listening carefully at the inspection holes for any sign of a hydrogen reaction as the pressure was increased. Tuohy climbed up several times and reported watching the flames leaping from the discharge face slowly dying away. During one of the inspections, he found that the inspection plates—which were removed with a metal hook to facilitate viewing of the discharge face of the core—were stuck fast. This, he reported, was due to the fire trying to suck air in from wherever it could.
"I have no doubt it was even sucking air in through the chimney at this point to try and maintain itself," he remarked in an interview.
Finally he managed to pull the inspection plate away and was greeted with the sight of the fire dying away.
"First the flames went, then the flames reduced and the glow began to die down," he described, "I went up to check several times until I was satisfied that the fire was out. I did stand to one side, sort of hopefully," he went on to say, "but if you're staring straight at the core of a shut down reactor you're going to get quite a bit of radiation."
Water was kept flowing through the pile for a further 24 hours until it was completely cold.

Ski, I really feel for you.
Here's a snippet from an article about how Dr. Akizuki prevented radiation sickness after the Hiroshima bombing through daily consumption of miso soup. The good thing is you're in exactly the right place to get miso.... If I were you I'd be having some every day, just in case. Get the most natural miso you can find.
Hope this helps.
At the time of the world's first plutonium atomic bombing, on August 9, 1945, two hospitals were literally in the shadow of the blast, about one mile from the epicenter in Nagasaki. American scientists declared the area totally uninhabitable for 75 years. At University Hospital 3000 patients suffered greatly from leukemia and disfiguring radiation burns. This hospital served its patients a modern fare of sugar, white rice, and refined white flour products. Another hospital was St. Francis Hospital, under the direction of Shinichiro Akizuki, M.D. Although this hospital was located even closer to the blast's epicenter than the first, none of the workers or patients suffered from radiation sickness. Dr. Akizuki had been feeding his patients and workers brown rice, miso soup, vegetables and seaweed every day. The Roman Catholic Church—and the residents of Nagasaki—called this a modern day miracle. Meanwhile, Dr. Akizuki and his co-workers disregarded the American warning and continued going around the city of Nagasaki in straw sandals visiting the sick in their homes.

Harley what do you think?
Did you see that explosion? Now I'm no nuclear power plant expert, but I know that there are two separate water systems involved. One system is a closed-loop system (because it's contaminated) for controlling the temperature of the core, and the other is a fresh-water system that is boiled into steam which is used to drive the electric generators.
As far as I know the cooling towers are only used for the contaminated closed-loop system, which as you might imagine is at extremely high pressure. And there isn't any need to cool the fresh-water system, as it's being turned into steam and allowed to escape naturally anyway. (Or something like that!) :)
So. What WAS that, that exploded?
It may be that the reactor is ok for now. But how long can that last if it isn't cooled? And they already stated hours ago that they were having cooling problems, and that was before we seen the explosion.
I don't know what to say about using sea water. But they're the experts (seriously). But I've been forming this gut-feeling that this has gone over their heads, and I sure hope I'm wrong.
The media WANTS to tell you everything (ratings you know!). But they can only tell you what the gov is telling them. You know how that goes. :)

Not sure if this helps.
http://modernsurvivalblog.com/nuclear/west-coast-usa-danger-if-japan-nuclear-reactor-meltdown/
“If they can’t restore power to the plant (and cool the reactor), then there’s the possibility of some sort of core meltdown”. An alarming statement made by James Acton, a physicist who examined Japan’s Kashiwazaki nuclear plant after a 2007 earthquake, who told CNN that Japanese authorities are in race to cool down the ***ushima reactor.
Following the fifth largest earthquake in recorded world history, a magnitude 8.9 earthquake, has resulted in the closure of all Japan’s nuclear power reactors, one of which, the ***ushima reactor, is overheating and in danger of a meltdown if coolant is not restored soon. It’s like a pressure cooker… when you have something generating heat and you don’t cool it off or release the steam…
Reported from abc NEWS, Scientists said that even though the reactor had stopped producing energy, its fuel continues to generate heat and needs steady levels of coolant to prevent it from overheating and triggering a dangerous cascade of events.
They go on to say, “Up to 100 percent of the volatile radioactive Cesium-137 content of the pools could go up in flames and smoke, to blow downwind over large distances,”
“Given the large quantity of irradiated nuclear fuel in the pool, the radioactivity release could be worse than the Chernobyl nuclear reactor catastrophe of 25 years ago.” said Kevin Kamps, a nuclear waste specialist.
***ushima I (there are two plant locations) is one of the 25 largest nuclear power stations in the world.
How would a nuclear plant meltdown unfold?
•Control rods are driven back down into the core upon emergency (if rods don’t make it all the way… trouble)
•The coolant (water) could cease if backup systems fail (electricity, pumps, generators, batteries)
•Reactor continues to produce heat
•Numerous venting valve systems would release pressure above ~1,000 psi into containment vessel
•Eventually the uranium fuel encasement metal will melt (2,200 deg F)
•Radioactive contamination then released into the reactor vessel
•Radiation escapes into an outer, concrete containment building
•Radiation escapes into the environment.

Japanese Nuclear Meltdown Would Be Hundreds of Times Worse Than Chernobyl...
NEW YORK | Fri Mar 11, 2011 8:18pm EST
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Japanese officials may only have hours to cool reactors that have been disabled by Friday's massive earthquake and tsunami or face a nuclear meltdown.
Tokyo Electric Power Co (TEPCO) (9501.T) is racing to cool down the reactor core after a highly unusual "station blackout" -- the total loss of power necessary to keep water circulating through the plant to prevent overheating.
http://resources0.news.com.au/images/2011/03/12/1226020/204544-nuclear-reactor.jpg
Radiation levels 1000 times above normal at nuclear power plant as massive earthquake and tsunami claim hundreds of lives.
Daiichi Units 1, 2 and 3 reactors shut down automatically at 2:46 p.m. local time due to the earthquake. But about an hour later, the on-site diesel back-up generators also shut, leaving the reactors without alternating current (AC) power.
That caused Tepco to declare an emergency and the government to evacuate thousands of people from near the plant. Such a blackout is "one of the most serious conditions that can affect a nuclear plant," according to experts at the Union of Concerned Scientists, a U.S. based nuclear watchdog group.
"If all AC power is lost, the options to cool the core are limited," the group warned.
TEPCO also said it has lost ability to control pressure at some of the reactors at its Daini plant nearby.
The reactors at ***ushima can operate without AC power because they are steam-driven and therefore do not require electric pumps, but the reactors do require direct current (DC) power from batteries for its valves and controls to function.
If battery power is depleted before AC power is restored, the plant would stop supplying water to the core and the cooling water level in the reactor core could drop.
RADIATION RELEASE
Officials are now considering releasing some radiation to relieve pressure in the containment at the Daiichi plant and are also considering releasing pressure at Daini, signs that difficulties are mounting. Such a release has only occurred once in U.S. history, at Three Mile Island.
"(It's) a sign that the Japanese are pulling out all the stops they can to prevent this accident from developing into a core melt and also prevent it from causing a breach of the containment (system) from the pressure that is building up inside the core because of excess heat," said Mark Hibbs, a nuclear expert at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace.
While the restoration of power through additional generators should allow TEPCO to bring the situation back under control, left unchecked the coolant could boil off within hours. That would cause the core to overheat and damage the fuel, according to nuclear experts familiar with the Three Mile Island accident in Pennsylvania in 1979.
It could take hours more for the metal surrounding the ceramic uranium fuel pellets in the fuel rods to melt, which is what happened at Three Mile Island. That accident essentially frozen the nuclear industry for three decades.
Seven years later the industry suffered another blow after the Chernobyl plant in Ukraine exploded due to an uncontrolled power surge that damaged the reactor core, releasing a radioactive cloud that blanketed Europe.
The metal on the fuel rods would not melt until temperatures far exceed 1,000 degrees F. The ceramic uranium pellets would not melt until temperatures reached about 2,000 degrees F, nuclear experts said.

...UPDATE...
US did not deliver coolant to Japan nuclear reactor
(Reuters) - The U.S. military did not provide any coolant for a Japanese nuclear plant affected by a massive earthquake on Friday, U.S. officials said.
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton earlier had said that U.S. Air Force "assets" had delivered "some really important coolant" to a Japanese nuclear power plant.
One U.S. official said he believed Clinton was told Japan had requested the material, that the United States had agreed to provide it, and that an operation to do so was under way.
Ultimately, however, Japan did not need assistance from the United States but Clinton did not appear to have been updated before she made her public remarks.
"We understand that ultimately the Japanese government handled the situation on its own," said another U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyv4KrQpmtY&feature=youtu.be
Emergency teams were worked to release dangerous pressure on a reactor at risk of melting down.
The Fu.kushima No1 and No2 power plants, 10 reactors in total, have been declared nuclear emergency sites, as the count of dead and missing people from Friday’s northern Honshu disaster exceeded 1,200.
The explosion at the No.1 plant’s No.1 reactor about 3:40pm local time injured four workers and vented radioactive material into the air.
But a Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency official was unable to say whether the blast happened within the at-risk No.1 reactor or the just the containment building, which appeared to be severely damaged.
An International Atomic Energy Agency spokesman said in Vienna the nuclear watchdog was “urgently seeking further information” from Japan.

the only time i wished i had foxtel or something similar.. but i guess i'll probably get the more real news from you guys..
should we all ask and see if we can have an intervention and finally have our benevolent ET's (if the exist) to help us/them out just a little?
My feeling is that mankind was warned several times and several ways against the use of nuclear energy at this stage, the plants and equipments are altogether not safe , not well isolated , compared to what it needs to be to prevent possible disasters .
There's always an effort to help but there are arrogant factions of mankind who do not listen and tend to spoil the game ..
The nuclear plant is like a bomb in children hands, you never know what it does, slight change of temperature and it may all blast to the air.
We can pray that it does not cause more damage.
My heart is with people of Japan ..

Avalon,
Three hours ago as I first awoke I turned on the TV to catch a live interview on CNN with a woman (civilian/ non-news person) in Japan. I wish I could find the interview to attach it. The interesting part was she was trying to move the interview to her perplexity concerning the very strange cloud formations she was seeing and claiming that the earthquake had made them! The CNN Anchor would have none of that topic and steered the interview back to their usual drivel that her producer was probably shouting in her ear to ask the interviewee.
I know we all love to speculate on Haarp around here but are their historical precedents for such natural phenomenon after a quake? Yes, we are probably back to speculating that this was HAARP related but I like to look at all possibilities. Could this be a natural affect?
Ski,
Possible good news I just heard on CNN that they are claiming that the radiation released (probably as part of the controlled steam release) is now showing diminished levels of radiation in the atmosphere. Only take it for what it is worth continuing with your vigilance and reasonable preparedness.

Wow now that's a reality slap in the face... thanks Harley. Very good, strong handy advice.
Have you just heard the speeches they have just said? They are going to use (sea water) and some other stuff to contain this problem and they believe this is a solution. They say the nuclear reactor is undamaged..( I can't believe I'm talking about nuclear reactors and stuff ) Is this a bluff? The radios for evacuation has gone from 10km to 20 km but they say the readings have dropped and this is just a safety precaution. The outer walls blew up because of steam of some sort ... I'm really talking about something I have no idea about..
How's it going now? How's the activity?
-------------------------
Interesting Harley, the BBC Saturday 15.00UTC news reported that the explosion may have been caused by Hydrogen exploding with the trigger action being another smaller shockwave. The building was damaged but the reactor core is assumed to be safe.
The report also confirmed that the authorities have made a decision that the plant will no longer be saved, and now they plan flooding the reactor core with sea water which will provide the necessary cooling. The report confirms this decision has opened many more options for the engineers involved, and it does seem they have the situation under control.
The report further confirms that Iodine tablets have been issued as a safety precaution and again this seems very sensible. Flood the thyroid gland with iodine thus preventing radio active material (should it exist) access to the gland.
This is an impressive response, come on folks the Japanese are serious people they are on top of this. I guess that when the diesel generators were lost in the tsunami the game was up. Cooling a reactor core with DC battery power, is only a standby measure to allow the diesel AC power to be brought back on line, however these generators were lost. With access roads severely damaged getting additional standby power in proved impossible so we are where we are.
What is very serious is the reported loss of 10,000 people from a town with a reported population of 17,000; the whole town has been erased. Very sad indeed.

In the wake of the crisis in Japan, let's take a moment to feel healing and peace to our world: Elders Prayer for the Healing & Care of our Mother Earth
"We give thanks to you, our Creator, (or Source name) for all the wonderful gifts you have bestowed upon us. We are grateful to you for helping us endure as long as we have on our be...loved Mother Earth. At this time of critical change, Creator, we ask you to help each one of us gain the understanding and wisdom we need to heal, to love one another, and to finally realize peace. We ask you to help each one of us become more aware of our responsibilities in caring for all life on this beautiful planet.
Creator, we know deep inside that we are a part of you and all creation. We want to take back our roles as caretakers of our planet. We want to open our hearts to honoring, respecting and caring for our natural environment. The global warming that is occurring all over the Earth is a blessed wake-up call. It is time to make a more loving, compassionate, thriving, vibrant world. Together, we can restore the integrity and healing powers of our water, air, and land to build a sustainable future for our children. Together, we can do this as One family working in unison to fulfill our purpose on this Earth.
Creator, we are grateful to be as one heart with you in this very special moment. We thank you again for giving us your love, your wisdom and your joy."

My heart goes out to SKI and the people of Japan. May the Lord comfort you, may He place peace and gratitude in your hearts. My prayers are with you.
There are many more changes to come, much pain to come. Please, time is growing very short, spend time with your families. Be with the ones you love and cherish every moment. Do something you always wanted to do if you have the means. Live in the now. We can never know what tomorrow will bring, life is very precious and very fragile. It will soon become evident to all who call Earth home that these changes are happening, not just us in the alternative community.
When it is your time to go, please, do not panic. Please do not fear. Example kindness and compassion for all to see, even in your darkest hour. If at all possible, meet your ascension with peace and gratitude. It is possible to enter into a different astral plane from the one we belong on through fear. What we imagine is real. We are not our bodies, we are not our minds, we are eternal spiritual beings. Accept what is to come, it is the will of the universe and as such it is our will. A Grand Transformation is taking place right before our eyes.
Understand that there is no where to hide, no point in running. You only attempt to deny yourself the experience you came here for, a glorious experience. You will see. Everyone, every single being on this planet is part of the grand design, and as such all will be included in the events that are unfolding now. This is what we came here for. Please do not fear. Accept this experience with gratitude, it is the reason we chose to incarnate here at this time. All are special and none will be forsaken. Each has a part to play, to deny ourselves this opportunity would be the greatest tragedy of all.
Be well and know that you are Love. Many blessings to all.

That is correct. HARRP can cause a Rainbow type effect in the Sky above a quake zone before one hits, but what a lot of people don't realize is that these Colors appear naturally as well when there is a build up of pressure in the ground (i think it is to do with the enormous amount of friction that causes a build up of charge in the air, i cant remember)

(Not fear-mongering - that's the LAST thing I want to do right now!)
I do not know for sure about the earth changes becoming more prevalent, but I have been meaning to mention this. On Thursday my husband and I were babysitting our 4 year old granddaughter. Ok, granted she is pretty spoiled, but she was completely out of control all day and was actually hateful and kept ptiching crying fits. My husband and I were very short on patience and very snappy. We have two cats ... they were running wild all over the house, plus demanding attention. Next moring when I awoke, I saw the destruction in Japan.
Just wondering if others felt this?

You can get wind up merchants, it's looking like everyone is watching those plants now. The aftershocks are annoying but I saw an old lady walking whilst an aftershock was taking place and she swayed a bit and waved her walking stick at the air in annoyance .. made me smile.
Harley you was the first friend I made at Avalon because I noticed you spoke volumes of sense and I have printed out your instructions and have printed out many of the links that everyone else has took the time out to uplink. You have all been so helpful with the information you have added. Even the downwind err sorry Ski- upwind one made me laugh.
If it was just me and the misses then we'd of gone by now but we'd have to kidnap her (I refuse to move mother) and grab pets and collect everyone else. There'd be about 5 of us and me and misses have both had good rests and ready to do this. Once the moment comes when we look at each other and say lets do it then thou shall be done.
Personally I wanted to go up north and help people and do my bit but the misses stuck a fat cork in that gun. In which she was right of course. So I'm praying that a nuclear disaster isn't on the elitists cards. Because I actually think this problem could be stamped out but if the big boys want to use Japan as an example again of how dangerous NPP are then I'm afraid they are fighting a loosing battle.
Anyway thats my position at the moment..
Will of course let you all know what happens and again some of your messages deserve more than a click of thanks and I want to talk with all of you.

Fortunately those in Japan that still eat a traditional Japanese diet of seaweed and fish have good stores of iodine in their bodies already. They should do all they can to continue with traditional diets.. This does not mean that they should not take supplemental iodien though.
It is difficult to overdose on iodine as the kidneys will readily dispose of excess, even with huge dosages.
Those who can migrate to other nation should or be prepared for more changes coming.

Japanese Government Confirms Meltdown
March 12, 2011 | 2148 GMT
http://www.stratfor.com/analysis/20110312-japanese-government-confirms-meltdown?utm_source=redalert&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=110312%286%29&utm_content=readmore&elq=c37481be769b4d429f06ad3b316f3258#ixzz1GQaFsiCn
Japan’s Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA) said March 12 that the explosion at the ***ushima Daiichi No. 1 nuclear plant could only have been caused by a meltdown of the reactor core, Japanese daily Nikkei reported. This statement seemed somewhat at odds with Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano’s comments earlier March 12, in which he said “the walls of the building containing the reactor were destroyed, meaning that the metal container encasing the reactor did not explode.”
NISA’s statement is significant because it is the government agency that reports to the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy within the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. NISA works in conjunction with the Atomic Energy Commission. Its role is to provide oversight to the industry and is responsible for signing off construction of new plants, among other things. It has been criticized for approving nuclear plants on geological fault lines and for an alleged conflict of interest in regulating the nuclear sector. It was NISA that issued the order for the opening of the valve to release pressure — and thus allegedly some radiation — from the ***ushima power plant.
NISA has also overseen the entire government response to the nuclear reactor problems following the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. It is difficult to determine at this point whether the NISA statement is accurate, as the Nikkei report has not been corroborated by others. It is also not clear from the context whether NISA is stating the conclusions of an official assessment or simply making a statement. However, the Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO), the operator of the ***ushima nuclear plant, also said that although it had relieved pressure, nevertheless some nuclear fuel had melted and further action was necessary to contain the pressure.
If this report is accurate, it would not be the first time statements by NISA and Edano have diverged. When Edano earlier claimed that radiation levels had fallen at the site after the depressurization efforts, NISA claimed they had risen due to the release of radioactive vapors.

Im not near any media here, and I dont have a TV. What I am seeing is a lot of reporting on speculation and as predicted, the media trying to scare people.
I don't know if there is any trustworthy news at the moment except to say that things are bad, and the nuclear reactor damage is something that can get out of hand fast.
Ever since I woke up I have been attempting to do what I wrote about yesterday - cool the reactor cores and call in ET help (by granting permission). The more people that do it, the better chances we have of helping the engineers - many of whom may be making the ultimate sacrifice as was done at Chernobyl trying to battle the forces that have been unleashed by this accident.
CBS News correspondent Nancy Cordes says the reactors in Japan were built to withstand the tremendous seismic activity that occurs in Japan, with backup systems to the backup systems. "If the electrical grids fail, then they go to diesel generators; if the diesel generators fail, then they go to battery packs," Cordes said on CBS' "The Early Show on Saturday Morning." "So it's really a mystery right now why none of those systems seem to be working properly."
The blame game can wait - but I suspect that there are serious questions to be answered. I hope this slows down the adoption of more nuclear energy - but that is for another time.

Click on the signature at the bottom of John's post to access the thread of focusing intent to cool the reactor. (Trust me, being in South East Asia right now, when my mind is racing at a crazy speed, that focus helps BIG time. And if it helps to cool the reactor some- all the more power to it!)
John's post:
Not to downplay the seriousness of the situation, the media is living up to expectations and presenting information in a manner that will scare as many people as possible.
Clearly the original "intent" that I was expressing needs updating now that the reactors have sustained further damage and cooling is still a problem.
OP updated thus:
My intent, for the highest and best good of all, is that the damaged nuclear reactors can be kept safely controlled and any damage is minimized, furthermore on my part, in so far as I can give it, I give full permission to our higher density brothers to intervene and help out.
Can we get a hundred on this or similar?
Cooling the reactors is priority I guess.
Envision them cooling down.

Yes.. i think we can safely assume the media will be playing down any major events to avert panic,
of course they are only reporting what they are given to report...
But unfortunately "to be forewarned is to be forearmed".
Soon they will be putting Prozac in the chemtrails.

Nancy Cordes of CBS news makes it sound so simple….these poor engineers had the nightmare, scenario to deal with. Ms Cordes explains perfectly how the system should have worked but fails to understand the situation and complexity of the task in hand while sitting in the comfort of the studio in Washington.
Yes if the mains electrical power system fails backup AC diesel generators would automatically come on line, providing power to cool the reactor. However these generators were damaged and knocked out in the Tsunami by water which clearly she saw. Power is then transferred to DC battery packs as the last line of defence. However you can’t cool a nuclear reactor with DC battery packs for goodness sake. These are only temporary measures maybe 4 hrs maximum to allow any failure in the diesel generators to be rectified.
With No AC generators the solution is to bring in temporary ones quickly, but the roads are all broken up and blocked and the local transport company no longer exists. When the DC batteries failed as they would, the poor engineers now soaking in perspiration were going through a living nightmare in the control room, with red lights flashing constantly and failsafe alarms, bells and whistles ringing continuously.
Ms Cordes should concentrate on making a good soufflé, and allow those who know what they are doing to get on with the job. The engineering staff have done a fantastic job under extraordinary circumstances, and should be praised rather than criticised. IMHO
What say you John.

Hi John,
I'm convinced that the people on site know exactly what protocols to follow for pure safety reasons. They are highly trained for all sorts of contingencies and worst case scenarios. The issues facing them are corporate. Their superiors are balancing shareholder value and litigation losses.
Important decision are delayed because they don't want to destroy the reactors (by flooding them) until they have to. I pray that management training of maximizing shareholder value gets bumped by a still small voice... quickly!
In other words, I'm not praying for ET intervention but rather for the decision makers to get out of their ego mind and do what is best for their country men/women. It IS within their power to stop this.

News report says that people living near the Reactor have been given Iodine as a precautionary measure.

Here is some information on Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Electric_Power_Company
Folks, it doesn't look good. Some major credibility issues here. For instance:
Scandal
On August 29, 2002, the government of Japan revealed that TEPCO was guilty of false reporting in routine governmental inspection of its nuclear plants and systematic concealment of plant safety incidents. All seventeen of its boiling-water reactors were shut down for inspection as a result. TEPCO's president, Nobuya Minami, was later forced to resign, and the utility "eventually admitted to two hundred occasions over more than two decades between 1977 and 2002, involving the submission of false technical data to authorities".[3] Upon taking over leadership responsibilities, TEPCO's new president issued a public commitment that the company would take all the countermeasures necessary to prevent fraud and restore the nation's confidence. By the end of 2005, generation at suspended plants had been restarted, with government approval.
In 2007, however, the company announced to the public that an internal investigation had revealed a large number of unreported incidents. These included an unexpected unit criticality in 1978 and additional systematic false reporting, which hadn't been uncovered during the 2002 inquiry. Along with scandals at other Japanese electric companies, this failure to ensure corporate compliance resulted in strong public criticism of Japan's electric power industry and the nation's nuclear energy policy. Again the company made no effort to identify those responsible.
I pray that the engineers on site have the courage to do what is best for the Japanese public and the world!

Japan says nuclear reactor intact but confirms radiation leak
Government plays down fears of radiation leak, but Japanese nuclear agency spokesman acknowledges that fears of a meltdown remain;
Russian nuclear expert says Chernobyl-style meltdown was unlikely.
An explosion at a nuclear power station Saturday destroyed a building housing the reactor,
but a radiation leak was decreasing despite fears of a meltdown from damage caused by a powerful earthquake and tsunami, officials said.
Government spokesman Yukio Edano said the explosion destroyed the exterior walls of the building where the reactor is placed,
but not the actual metal housing enveloping the reactor.

I wanted to post some thoughts on the BBC footage of the explosion at the ***ushima plant last night after I had viewed it, but my WiFi link kept dropping, and it was not feasible. I have now caught up on this thread, and will add some other thoughts as well.
First off, I would like to thank the poster who was able to provide the freeze frame shots from the footage, which seems to indicate that it was not a reactor containment building that was destroyed in the explosion, but don't recall who it was. (Harley?) That appears to be good news.
When viewing the BBC footage from the farther out angle, I can clearly see what appears to be a shock wave, with a small condensation cloud forming and rapidly dissipating above the blast. This is a very common atmospheric effect of a shock wave, and is quite likely why the commentator referred to it as a very energetic blast, possibly caused by a hydrogen explosion. (Bless the BBC for keeping a more objective stance than the news-as-entertainment here in the USA) I think that is the most likely explanation. It does not look at all like an explosion caused by steam pressure overcoming the reactor building, which would not likely cause a shock wave, and which would release a huge plume of steam. It was a big explosion, yet only 4 people were injured. This concurs with the report someone else posted about the engineers hooking up hoses to pour water on a fire in the reactor, knowing the danger, hence most people were well out of danger when the blast occurred.
Caesium-137 is produced from a uranium fission reaction, and caesium reacts very violently with water, tearing the oxygen from the water molecule and liberating hydrogen. The heat of the reaction itself is usually enough to the 'ignite' the hydrogen in the surrounding air. (Never thought high school chemistry would come in handy like this :) ) Why there was so much hydrogen to cause such a big explosion is something I can't answer, but this might be explained by such a scenario. Especially if they were venting the hydrogen into another container to keep it away from oxygen in the air, and something gave way during an aftershock.
In a worst-case scenario, which I see no evidence for in anything yet posted, of a reactor building and containment building being demolished by steam pressure, a cloud of steam carrying radioactive material would be released. So, how does a cloud of steam, at sea level, get into the jet stream? I suspect that all those scenarios floating around are just fear-mongering. Yes, a lot of people are scared, but I think we need to stop sometimes and think about some of these claims. Radioactive material released at sea level is not going to get up into the jet stream, in the stratosphere, unless carried up there by a very powerful updraft. the only occasions I know of this happening were during the megaton yield thermonuclear atmospheric tests during the 50s and early 60s, and only because those mushroom clouds rose, in some cases to 100,000 feet, carrying the fallout with them into the upper stratosphere.
A nuclear reactor can't explode like a nuclear bomb. Melt down, yes; explode no. A meltdown is a very serious scenario, but not apocalyptic. If such occurred, I doubt the amount of radioactive material that would eventually reach North America would be much of a health concern. On the other hand, I would not want to be downwind for at least a hundred miles if that happened. Those in Japan should take what precautions are indicated by the authorities, just don't panic unnecessarily.
Something to keep in mind: We all have radioactive material in our bodies in tiny amounts - carbon-14. It's in all living things, which is how carbon-14 dating works. Problems arise when someone gets a large dose of radiation directly (not an issue in a meltdown scenario, only in a nuclear explosion) or when fallout enters into the body by being breathed in or ingested. There is always tiny amounts of said radioactive material in the air we breathe and substances we eat, but the dose is so low as to be of no concern. Life has evolved on this planet with all this occurring naturally, and our bodies can handle those levels of radiation. It is a large dose in a short period of time that our bodies aren't equipped to handle well. Of the various radioactive isotopes, strontium-90 is perhaps the most dangerous, because it can be fixed in the body wherever calcium is, especially in the bones. Since bone marrow is where red blood cells are made, a common (long term) result of radiation poisoning from strontium-90 is leukemia.
Disclaimer: I am neither a physicist, nor a doctor. I am offering what I know from a layperson's perspective. I do consider myself scientifically educated, and have read much on these subjects, but this is a distillation of that knowledge, not professional opinion.
Edit: Looks like I was wrong about the explosion not being in one of the reactor buildings. Doesn't change the big picture though.

This might lead to, or be part of something totally extreme, and I wish to warn you all if that is the case. It's about the unbelievable foresights that came before this date, regarding Japan as well as the rest of us. Possibly being the last big adjustments before our poor mother tips over at a later stage. And yes, there should be a thread for this but if you have not read/seen this you should just in case. Theoretical time limit is two weeks if we perhaps do not manage to change it together. Came like a shock, but that's the wisdom of life. The more conscious a human, the fewer shocks will be experienced. Peace folks..... :ohwell:

The following is speculation. Given these points:
An earlier post reproduced part of a Russian report, dated Mar 9th IIRC, that noted that unusual atmospheric effects were observed along the west coast of North America and South America, as well as along the New Madrid fault. Such effects, including 'lights in the sky' have been recorded throughout history preceding large earthquakes, and long before HAARP ever existed, and has often been suggested as a possible way to predict major earthquakes. If this current situation was noted in the public domain, it is certain that TPTB are well aware of this too.
I thought it odd when somewhere it was mentioned that part of Japan is on the North American plate. I checked it out - it's true. see: http://geology.com/plate-tectonics.shtml. Scroll about halfway down the page to the map. Where this earthquake occurred, off northern Honshu, is near where the North American and Pacific plates meet.
It has been mentioned elsewhere to expect a major quake along the New Madrid fault sometime in the next two weeks, due, at least in part, to the current planetary / lunar situation.
A possible scenario that would tie these elements together runs something like this: If HAARP was used to trigger the quake off Japan, and I think this is certainly a possibility, it might have been done to lessen the chance of a major quake somewhere on the west coast of North America. Essentially a "better them than us" sort of mentality by whoever ordered it. This doesn't excuse it in the slightest. The location of the quake may have been simply because there were already quakes happening there, suggesting this was the least stable point anywhere along the boundary between these two plates, and the easiest place to trigger a major quake to release a lot of energy. I would be very curious to see if the situation in the atmosphere along the west coasts of NA and SA has changed since.
Somehow, I get the sense of children playing with things they don't really understand, and can't really control, in such a possible action. They may be desperate.
The reason that the New Madrid fault may expect a major quake soon is that it is not dependent on the mechanics of NA and Pacific plates, and any 'pressure' building there can't be so released elsewhere.
This is speculation. Make of it what you will.

Yes Dionysus I saw that report as well. Fulford has also speculated the use of HAARP for generating the Japan earthquake. His evidence were the observed light phenomenon preceding the quake. As you mention this is a natural phenomenon... called the piezoelectric effect. When a quartz crystal is strained (squeezed) a voltage gets induced. The principle used in quartz crystal watches. Most of the sedimentary rock are made of quartz. So when large stresses are induced just prior to fault slippage large electric voltage potentials are created. The reverse is also true which Fulford thinks is happening. By inducing large EM voltages in the ionosphere, quartz grains deform (squeeze). Maybe man made, maybe not.
I think you are right though... the next coming weeks will be 'stressful'.
Chuck

oh... just an aside... I think this voltage change (piezoelectric effect) is what animals detect seconds before a quake.

Just checkin in with you.
So what's goin on? You and everyone ok?
I've been off line for a few hours, but meltdowns have been confirmed by the Japanese Gov.
I really want to stress to you to be prepared like I said, OK?
Just prepare ahead of time. If nothing happens you'll be none the wiser. But if it does, you'll love me for the rest of your life! LOL!
And remember, be absolutely serious about this but always keep your levity intact. Levity can be very important in dire circumstances. Believe me, I know! :)
Ski, this is really important to me because I know what I'm talking about. Because I've been there under "other" circumstances.

It is not true that Potassium iodide can damage your thyroid. The ONLY case that would be true is if one has Hasimotos. It's like Vitamin C, whatever your body doesn't use will be peed out. Order Iodoral 12.5 mgs from Amazon and eat seaweed (lots) until it comes.
Hi Nearing - I didn't specify that it was potassium iodine - I just said (because she asked what it was for) and I felt like a bit of a d*ck, but I told her. And that's what she told me - so, I was just passing that on.
It might be a heap of crap - our supermarkets sell fluoride and salvia is illegal.
So - going by our record - you're likely right.
But, I couldn't buy any.
I don't know if anyone has posted this yet but there is a substance called Atomidine (atomic iodine) and it is digestable, when taken with water. It is also easily ordered through BAAR via the internet.

***ushima Nuclear Accident – a simple and accurate explanation
http://bravenewclimate.com/2011/03/13/***ushima-simple-explanation/
Please see this excellent summary on the situation prepared by Dr Josef Oehmen, a research scientist at MIT, in Boston. He is a PhD Scientist, whose father has extensive experience in Germany’s nuclear industry.
I am writing this text (Mar 12) to give you some peace of mind regarding some of the troubles in Japan, that is the safety of Japan’s nuclear reactors. Up front, the situation is serious, but under control. And this text is long! But you will know more about nuclear power plants after reading it than all journalists on this planet put together.
There was and will *not* be any significant release of radioactivity.
By “significant” I mean a level of radiation of more than what you would receive on – say – a long distance flight, or drinking a glass of beer that comes from certain areas with high levels of natural background radiation.
I have been reading every news release on the incident since the earthquake. There has not been one single (!) report that was accurate and free of errors (and part of that problem is also a weakness in the Japanese crisis communication). By “not free of errors” I do not refer to tendentious anti-nuclear journalism – that is quite normal these days. By “not free of errors” I mean blatant errors regarding physics and natural law, as well as gross misinterpretation of facts, due to an obvious lack of fundamental and basic understanding of the way nuclear reactors are build and operated. I have read a 3 page report on CNN where every single paragraph contained an error.
We will have to cover some fundamentals, before we get into what is going on.

So a breaking news report directly from the gov should be disregarded?
Hmmm?
I don't at all get the impression that's what this article is suggesting.
From my reading of it, there's a difference between a 'meltdown' and a 'core meltdown'. I'm not sure which one the Japanese spokesperson is referring to.
Even in the worst case scenario of a core meltdown, the article suggests that the radioactivity will be contained and we are not looking at another Chenobyl type disaster.
I hope he is right. :)

It sounds more like a school essay, the type you write to sooth your conscience after helping to build hundreds of nuclear plants all over the world,
so how these 'kids' of yours could ever do serious damage eh
People of this calibre will try to deny radiation leaks affecting generations and imply that anyone without their qualification is unable to evaluate the risks.
Why don't more experts join in to help in the ***ushima ? All world is watching it so why those with experience don't join the team there ?
Aren't they scared.

I just had to cancel a few jobs for next weekend that would of forced us to stay within 70km of F,,,kushima for 3 days. They were disappointed that we cancelled in which I said that I was disappointed in them trying the old (the show must go on) when you'll be encouraging thousands of people to travel very close to an unstable nuclear plant. END OF.
Just had a loud message over my area that electricity will be turned off in parts of Tokyo and other ridiculously overly lit up areas to compensate the lack of energy because of the shutting down of plants. Yes they say another explosion is expected at the plants tonight or tomorrow. Oh! and they say another huge aftershock is expected. Maybe at a similar magnitude as the *checks thread title again* 9.1.
These are rumors but they are expecting another big one.
We are in the process of packing up and readying ourselves to get out of Japan altogether.
I'm sure you guys are getting different reports than what we get here. I'm tired of listening to repeated rubbish on T.V. and so is everyone else. We just want to know whats going on inside the plant ffs.
Of course I believe the big boys are going to take full advantage of this opportunity.
So whats more beneficial?
A heroic PHEW!! that was close - or a huge disaster (nuclear related)
So we plan on taking a flight out.. not sure where yet?

Aikya,
I'm only quoting what I get across from CNN Text Breaking News.
From what they say it is official from the Japanese Gov.
If they finally want to report the truth I am educated enough to realize that.
There are two questions I'd like to ask you:
1. Was (is) your man there now?
2. When we talk about meltdown in a nuclear situation, do you really not know what we mean?
I want you to know that I truly don't want to sound condescending to you, but I feel that it really is DIRELY IMPORTANT that we don't allow ourselves to stick our heads in the sand. AND ESPECIALLY DURING THESE TIMES.
Like I said, BE PREPARED. I can guarantee you . . . You WILL Thank yourself!
