Hi Manny, I've been there a few times. It never seems to be rammed by tourists because stonehenge is obviously just up the road so they all go there so you could go any time really. I don't think there is much is avebury itself in terms of hotels/b&bs but whatever is in the immediate vicinity might be overpriced - so you could look at getting a holiday cottage is a village close by but you'd have to have a car or cycle. One of the houses near Avebury circle actually has one of the stones in it - try and spot it! I think there is also a museum at avebury of how they excavated. Also not far is wood henge and west kennet barrow - worth taking a look. Have fun!

Hi Manny, I have also been to Avebury many times sinse 1970s, this last few years we have had a gathering every summer solstice, June 21st, this is where we camped. http://www.wiltshiretouristguide.com/Marlborough/Church_Farm_Camp_Site_801.asp about 20min drive from Avebury and the cheapest site in the area, £6 per tent and £1 per person. We will be gathering again this solstice, you are welcome to join us. Enjoy
