Hard Day's Night. Made me buy a guitar and have a very exciting life as a performer/musician while getting in touch with a deeper part of myself.
Involvement with any art is always a movement towards Spirit.

A Hard Day's Night...WOW, that takes me back to 1965...
I nearly lost my ear drums when all those school girls around me started screaming
in a plush velvet cinema at Picadilly Circus...
I guess that set the stage for me, too....
just four years later I got to shake John Lennons hand...determined fan that i was...
then "The Stalker" Russian movie by Andrei Tarkovski
Meetings with Remarkable Men....about the life of G. I. Gurdjieff
"The Fisher King"
"The Fifth Element"

Dirty Harry.
I know what you are thinking, did I fire 5 shots or 6?
To tell you the truth, in the excitement, I don't know.
So the question you have to ask yourself is, are you feeling lucky today punk?
Well?
Are you?
I would never make a good cop, I despise criminals.

I was originally going to put Lord of the Rings but thought it might be too cute. Thanks Bill.
I also agree with The Gods Must Be Crazy. That one really made you think about what you "need", and how those "needs" can lead to unintended consequences.

I wasn't woken up by a movie...but the film Waking Life, directed by Richard Linklater, is brilliant and I believe has the potential to awaken.... not quite mainstream though.
Escape to Witch Mountain (Disney) spoke volumes to me as a child.
Jacobs ladder was an eye opener for me...on the black ops side of things.
Altered states with William Hurt was pretty interesting
Bliss (australian version)
I'm sure there are more, but that's all (apart from the ones already listed) that come up for now

Ohh, there are too many. The last movie that really got me thinking quite a lot was "The Adjustment Bureau" - German title "Der Plan " (the plan). The author of the novel on which this movie was based is very good. Written by my most loved Philip K. Dick. His live was really full of mysterious events. There is a lot of information about him. I do not think he went completely mad. There was a time in his life he got to much knowledge.
He also delivered the scripts for Blade Runner, Total Recall, A Scanner Darkly and Minority Report.
On February 20, 1974, Dick was recovering from the effects of sodium pentothal administered for the extraction of an impacted wisdom tooth. Answering the door to receive delivery of extra analgesic, he noticed that the delivery woman was wearing a pendant with a symbol that he called the "vesicle pisces." This name seems to have been based on his conflation of two related symbols, the ichthys (two intersecting arcs delineating a fish in profile) that early Christians used as a secret symbol, and the vesica piscis. After the delivery woman's departure, Dick began experiencing strange visions. Although they may have been initially attributable to the medication, after weeks of visions he considered this explanation implausible. "I experienced an invasion of my mind by a transcendentally rational mind, as if I had been insane all my life and suddenly I had become sane," Dick told Charles Platt.[28]
Throughout February and March 1974, he experienced a series of visions, which he referred to as "2-3-74", shorthand for February–March 1974. He described the initial visions as laser beams and geometric patterns, and, occasionally, brief pictures of Jesus and of ancient Rome. As the visions increased in length and frequency, Dick claimed he began to live a double life, one as himself, "Philip K. Dick", and one as "Thomas", a Christian persecuted by Romans in the 1st century A.D. Despite his history of drug use and elevated stroke risk, Dick began seeking other rationalist and religious explanations for these experiences. He referred to the "transcendentally rational mind" as "Zebra", "God" and "VALIS." Dick wrote about the experiences, first in the semi-autobiographical novel Radio Free Albemuth and then in VALIS, The Divine Invasion and The Transmigration of Timothy Archer, i.e., the VALIS trilogy.
At one point Dick felt that he had been taken over by the spirit of the prophet Elijah. He believed that an episode in his novel Flow My Tears, the Policeman Said was a detailed retelling of a story from the Biblical Book of Acts, which he had never read.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull. (the film, not the book. The film was rather good -for what films are)
Saw THX1138 one night on TV when I was about 18, about 2 am. (Drunk and high) Blew my gaskets. To think that George Lucas has failed to make anything as good as that first film, to this day.

"What Dreams May Come"
Changed the way I thought about life, love & commitment, people, 'why', the soul, and the importance of busting a gut to do the right thing - which one day, I might get the hang of ;-)
Wiki snippet for ya....
.......What Dreams May Come is a 1998 film about a man who dies and finds himself in a heaven more amazing than he could have ever dreamed of, but without his wife, who killed herself after he died. He decides to risk eternity in hell for the small chance that he will be able to bring her back to heaven...........supernatural drama film, starring Robin Williams, Cuba Gooding, Jr., and Annabella Sciorra.
So many great films here peeps, and agree that One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest was special too.
Jonathan Livingston Seagull (the film) was mentioned earlier... the book has been constant motivation to me for the last 30-odd years.

It's great seeing some of the films on my list mentioned here, good thread.
here are some of mine:
Jacob's Ladder
The Ninth Configuration
I love Huckabees
Fight Club
The Matrix (ONLY the first one!)
The Prestige
Contact
Vanilla Sky
Unbreakable

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus
V for Vendetta
Blade Runner
Pan's Labyrinth
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
The Squid and the Whale
Shutter Island
Lost in Translation
Yesterday I bought 'The Wrestler' (Mickey Rourke, directed by Darren Aronofsky), and I watched it last night and absolutely loved it. Understated and almost in a documentary style. The central character is so sympathetic and real it's painful. Very moving and touching, but no punch is telegraphed. It's subtle, I thought. I recommend it highly.

At the age of 14/15, I walked several miles alone to the Cinerama theater to see 2001 in its super-wide curved screen, 3 projector, initial run.
At it's conclusion, as I left the theater and went outside for my long walk home, I realized I and the world appeared very different to me than the world I left from the pre-movie experience.
I came to realize later that this was my first major 'altered state' of consciousness, triggered by Kubrick's vision and the Cinerama theater experience and being a kid alone for it all.
Also as a child, Atlantis, The Lost Continent, The Last Days of Pompei, and The Time Machine really affected me.
Later, Close Encounters, Contact, and all movies made from Philip K. Dick stories. I only wish the fav sci-fi author from my youth, Robert Heinlein, had had movies made from his books which were anywhere near as good. Still waiting for Stranger in a Strange Land and The Moon is a Harsh Mistress to be made into movies.
Most recently, Avatar in 3D.

I like the green beautiful Aniusia, thanks for that!
one of the best movies i have seen that has a remarkable impact on everyone who watches it in the way to waking-up,is 'Waltz with Bashir' (i am afraid not in good quality here)
It leaves the average viewer with a distinctive feeling that 'War is not worth it!' however Brainwashed the viewer was when he first started to watch. It breaks all those hidden emotions and walls that were built over the years by the governments and mainstream media.
animated but demonstrating the truth in real accuracy!
close to be a masterpiece if you ask me

In general, books have done it for me far more than movies. Still, the two movies that most 'woke me up' as an adult were
Dune (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087182/) (1984, David Lynch dir.)
Altered States (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080360/)
Growing up, we watched, as a family, Chariots of the Gods (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065702/), and its sequels, which obviously had a large effect on me.
Another movie that had an effect at the time was a little known film with Klaus Kinski called Android (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0083557/).
There are many movies that move me, and/or which I find have a deep meaning for me, but most of these are because I had already 'woken up,' at least a little, to appreciate them by the time I saw them or they were released. So, IMO, those don't really count here.

Breaker Morant (1980) Three Australian lieutenants are court martialed for executing prisoners as a way of deflecting attention from war crimes committed by their superior officers.

Many movies, episodes of series on the tele, have inspired me, but nothing compared to the movie... V for Vendetta! A remarkable union of poetry and sacrifice in the name of freedom, that we all seek. If anyone didn't see the movie, I strongly recommend it!
Others in list -
X-files
Stargate
Mars...
and so on...

First, Manny, thank you for starting this thread. It's very useful. The only movie that comes to mind which I didn't see listed thus far is a short claymation clip called "Closed Mondays".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q_VTdhgrpFU
I must admit that this probably made more of an impression on me than it otherwise might have because I was in a chemically altered state at the time. Then again, that's pretty much the point of the film.
In terms of waking up to how the world really works, that has come almost exclusively through books for me. Perhaps we should start another thread for that list as well.

Missing (1982) - When an idealistic writer disappears during the Right Wing military coup in 1973 Chile, his wife and American businessman father try to find him.
Breaker Morant (1980) Three Australian lieutenants are court martialed for executing prisoners as a way of deflecting attention from war crimes committed by their superior officers.
What the Bleep Do We Know? (2004)
The Corporation (2003) Documentary that looks at the concept of the corporation throughout recent history up to its present-day dominance.
Missing is a truly brilliant film. I doubt it would get made now. Also...
Network.
Salvador.
Bonnie and Clyde.
Angel Heart (i was 15, it knocked me sideways)
La Dolce Vita.
A Bout de Souffle.
Apocalypse Now (until Brando turns up).
Taxi Driver.
The Elephant Man.
Magnolia.
Dog Day Afternoon.
Jaws (cos there really are big sharks in the water, i don't care what anybody says).
Predominantly seventies, i suppose. Films rocked then.
PS and whoever liked What Dreams May Come...i like that, too. A kinda guilty secret film.

Well, you all have almost mentioned every single movie I was going to. I was really looking forward to slapping down The Fountain as well, and sure enough, it's right there above mine. :)
When I was younger:
Close Encounters.
Alien
The Adventures Of Buckaroo Bonzai
A Clockwork Orange
The Thing - Kurt Russell version
Amityville Horror
As an adult:
The Fountain
What Dreams May Come (brings me to tears every time and I'm not a crier)
The Matrix
Conspiracy Theory
TV:
X-files
Fringe
I'm sure there are many more, I just can't think of them all right now.

Also, just to add to the comment about The Fountain, I also saw the movie as an exploration into life and death and the power of Love.
The soundtrack is extraordinary and I know the first time I heard the music, after seeing the movie, it also brought me to tears.
I must be getting soft in my old age.

2) The day the earth stood still
3) Matrix
4) Jumpers
5) The Forth Kind( Make sure you have some toilet paper and it's not for crying)
6) DE JU VU

8) City of angels
9) Michael
10) The Notebook
11) Arsenac and Old Lace ------ Charrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggeeeee!
From thinking outside of the box and letting go to coming back to earth and who we are, movies do have an impact on us as it is another art form of who we are as the ambassadors of this planet and this lifetime.

How to Get Ahead In Advertising. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/How_to_Get_Ahead_in_Advertising) (It didn't wake me up, but drives the point home rather well.)
The continuously running monologue of the main character? "Off the scale" good.
I don't believe anyone has mentioned 'Dark City'. One of the greatest 'wake up' films of all time.
The parallels to our experience here, are unmistakable. Some of the aspects are on the sinister side, but that only makes this particular ride more fun.
I won't ruin it for you. Just see it.
Buy a seatbelt for your chair, first. unplug the phone, draw the curtains.... and strap in.
smoke 'em if you got 'em...cuz here it comes....
When you see the city, under 'motion', understand that what is seen of human consensus reality in the flow of dimensions and timelines...it does not look that much different.
"Inception", for example, combines esoteric lore and modern storytelling into a woven story, which is why it resonates so well with so many people. It speaks to what is known truths, deep inside of us.
"Dark City" is the same, regarding that inner voice. Like 'Inception', it is a gem, a masterpiece, but with a different tact, or direction. Dark. You will like it regardless, for reasons that will not be clear, until you see it.
i still have the habit at odd times...of speaking and sounding like 'Mr Hand'. (Richard O'Brien)

Limitless..........recent film. Terrific in every way, except for the ubiquitous 'pill' that is need to awaken us. Otherwise wonderful heart expanding, resonates our deep desire to awaken.
Eragon........... Wow! The rush I get when he rides the dragon and sees through his eyes! We must have this capacity latent within us or the deep resonance wouldn't be there!
The Biggest Game in Town...... GREAT film.

The People is a 1972 television film, broadcast as an ABC Movie of the Week on January 22, 1972. It is mostly based on a novella by Zenna Henderson, "Pottage", but also contains elements from her stories "Ararat", "Gilead", and "Captivity".
This science fiction film tells the story of Melodye Amerson (Kim Darby), a young teacher who goes to a remote area to work with a group of individuals who have isolated themselves from civilization and maintained an independent community, vaguely similar to the Amish or a religious commune. Melodye is unnerved by the secretive behavior of her students, and the fact that all fun, games and activities she proposes are forbidden to them. Valancy (Diane Varsi), an elder in the community, advises Melodye to stay, because she senses that things are about to change in the valley, and Melodye herself is a part of that change.
Melodye soon discovers that the secluded and "backwards" residents are actually aliens with mild paranormal powers. A natural disaster destroyed their planet, and they are hoping to establish a life on Earth. Landing in the late 1800s, initially they shared their secret with local residents, but found themselves condemned as witches. Many were killed, and the survivors forbade their children ever to use their abilities, even with extreme discretion. Young adults like Valancy (and even some of the older people) have been pushing for an end to these restrictions.

Depends which wake-up we are talking about.
There have been many.
But the one that alerted me to secret societies and their mind control games
was Eyes Wide Shut by Stanley Kubrick.
For me, it was not a movie. It was a book. It was given to me by my soon to be Brother in Law. I was 18. I'd already has some very WEIRD experiences, like two total and complete prior life recalls*....but in the 'real world', it was a book.
It was this:
http://www.softwareartist.com/PHILEXP/PHLEXP_F.JPG
when I was 21, I was taking a college level 3 year technical degree. One of the courses was on public speaking, ie presentations. My 1/2 hour long presentation was on this exact subject. The Philadelphia experiment. I had bought about 5 copies of the book and other materials photocopied, etc..and had those moving around the room as I spoke on the subject.
Within I few months after that, I came into direct contact with the guy who was to keep tabs on me for the PTB. The year was 1986. I still know him to this day. I've met his wife and his kids, etc.
He's just a guy, like everyone else stuck in this machine. No matter the level, it's all the same. Very few people really know what is going on. All they know is what they are allowed to imagine exists. I've only seen him scared once, and I can't tell you why. I don't have that right. He did not tell me anything. I just figured it out on my own.
Until you get to the strange stuff, the top levels.... when the people need some form of control, a difference, that they can live as their part of the dream....to be run by and through. Their isolation is required, otherwise they'd intermix and the thing would come down. The separation is part of the package of the having of a control system. I will say this, though. In all of them that I have encountered, there is a very strong aspect of animalized sexuality that is overt enough to be part of their ability to be controlled -- and have low empathy toward others. Which is why I have little doubt about the reports concerning the prior head of the IMF.
At That level, where you pass into and through the membrane of so called 'normalcy', into the strange stuff....then you are among the control group. Only then do you stand a chance of meeting the real control structure.
* Besides my 46 years, there is the formative aspects (Because I received and relived them them as a child) of the (now) barely remembered lives of an 85 year old Louisiana French Civil War veteran...and a 40 year old hominid alien slave (on an alien planet).
Sorry folks, I did not speak about a movie, but you might find the above just as interesting, if not more informative.
For example, all I did way back when, before we had computers and cell phones..all of that stuff....all I did was speak on the Philadelphia experiment. and ...Boom! Just like that....I was under surveillance. 1986. Specifically, I spoke at a school, to my classmates. Now, do you think that the system of academia and science is infused with secret societies? That science and physics is deeply and powerfully controlled, via a well placed and hidden hand? I'd say yes.
I hope this helps you understand how extreme it has become in these modern days.

I wonder why there are so many movies to wake us up,
because we know which people own Hollywood. There
are a lot of movies with the subliminal messages to keep
us in the dark. Why do they allow the 'good movies' to be there ?
I've watched a lot of movies after waking up. Really fun to
watch the negative and the positive ones, because it doesn't
affect us anymore.
Just like I am wondering why they let people like Alex Jones,

REVOLVER by Guy Ritchie.
It pointed me to the struggle of getting your EGO under your controll. It's brilliantly portrayed in the lift(elevator) scene.
Now, there is much more in this film that reveals secrets of our perception of reality. My advice; go see for yourself.

THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU with Matt Damon - 2011 release
This movie didn't wake me up (what woke me was an OBE that happened 35yrs ago), but this movie spoke to me as it seemed to mimic many parts of my life - some very good info in it. I usually can't sit through action movies (i.e. The Matrix) even though I realize they have much good info in them, but there was something compelling to me in this one. Also I enjoyed the love story.
Note: the first 10 minutes of the movie seem as if they are going negative to the dark side, but you will soon see it differently.

"A writer discovers a top-secret drug which bestows him with super human abilities."
It looked like the main character woke up, but in the movie he needed drugs to
make him limitless. In the end it's not totally clear if he is able to have the
super human abilities with or without the drugs.

movies that woke me up...
in the early '60s when i was in High School, Adolf Eichmann was caught & brought to trial -- a documentary was released entitled 'Mein Kampf' -- a lot of it was films of the concentration camps taken by the S.S. & by the liberators of the camps -- my parents insited that my sister & i see it, so we walked to the theater one Saturday
there were few in the audience -- in the front were two men & a woman jeering & making anti-Semitic remarks -- the usher asked them to leave, & they did
i was your typical self-conscious teenager, but all the way home i had to stop walking while i was wracked w/deep heavy crying -- i was devastated to learn how cruel Humans can be to their brothers & sisters , & i knew that i had been looking at evil when i was watching that documentary
this basically started me on a life-long searching for the answer to the question, 'How can a loving Creator allow such things to go on?' -- the answer i've found can be found in the video that Vivek started a thread on, 'The Truth...'
also 'The Matrix' -- more of a confirmation of what i have always known -- i think that some such memories -- like of the Humans hooked up to the tubes -- i probably have seen during my mind-blocked abductions

I was surprised by this film. It covered some interesting topics.Worth a look IMHO.
In the year 2169, humanity has evolved to stop aging at 25 and to be born with a digital clock on their forearm bearing a year worth of time. Once 25, the clock begins ticking down until the point when it reaches zero, when a person dies. People have turned time into the universal currency, giving time for products or services just by body contact, as well as transferring to others. The only ways to die are by timing out, or running out of time, having one's clock "cleaned", or murder by stealing all of someone's time, or simply by being reckless that age is not a factor in that reason (e.g. getting shot, overdosing, etc.). The country is divided into time zones, based on the wealth of its population; the film focuses on two time zones. Dayton, a ghetto zone whose inhabitants barely have a day if they don't work in the local factory, is one of the poorest with people being indifferent to the timed-out bodies on the streets. The other zone is New Greenwich, the wealthiest zone where the wealthy enjoy the benefits of their immortality and wealth and are constantly surrounded by body guards.

This is an awesome clip from the full Italian movie, "Allegro Non Troppo" by Bruno Bozzetto.
(Life begins from a Coke Bottle and Evolves!) All done to 'Bolero di Ravel'
aSEJC-cVPuA
Now in about the 70's I remember seeing something very similar to this, but as far as I can remember, it was Russian, full length. It also begins with life evolving from a Coke Bottle except it's a slow zoom-in with explosions - particularly a nuclear bomb exploding - in the reflections of the bottle on a beach. Eventually the life forms evolve into humanoid creatures, who begin to make cities, flying cars, spaceships. As I recall, it was full length and considered Russia's equivalent of Fantasia?

Some good ones I haven’t seen mentioned yet....
The Man Who Fell to Earth - oldie but goodie starring David Bowie
Solaris - George Clooney gets his mind bent on a Space Station
Sphere - Dustin Hoffman, Sharon Stone encounter an infinite source of energy - not great but worth a look
The Last Mimsy - some children find an artifact from the last Mimsy, a dying alien race...
2012 - I thought it was excellent, featuring the ‘Arks’ of the Elite
Battlefield Earth - John Travolta’s universally panned adaptation of L Ron Hubbard’s book, but well worth a view.
My favourites of those already mentioned...
Defending Your Life - best afterlife movie ever imo, written by and starring Albert Brooks. Funny and profound, clearly establishes Fear as the only thing to fear.
Vanilla Sky
Minority Report
The Matrix Trilogy - I fast forward through the endless fighting and special effects for the script nuggets
V for Vendetta

My Dinner With Andre - imagine a movie with no car chases, no soft porn, no special effects, just two men having an intelligent and fascinating conversation over dinner!
Network
Altered States
The Da Vinci Code
Eyes Wide Shut
Magnolia
Saving Grace - funny Britflick in which a conservative widow is saved by growing cannabis.
Chocolat - sheer delight
The Good Shepherd - underrated Robert De Niro film starring Matt Damon about the life of an ‘elite’. Fine example of how these demented cub scouts get to control the world and what their ‘secrets’ do to them.
Anonymous - recent movie about the Earl of Oxford who, it’s widely believed, wrote the plays of Shakespeare. Outstanding performances and fascinating story.
I searched for a thread on Movies members recommend, I found this instead. For me, the only one that remotely ranks as a 'wake up' movie was The Man Who Fell to Earth that I saw well over 30 years ago. It might be more appropriate to say 'stimulating movies' and while the medium is undoubtedly used for nefarious purposes, it follows that it can also be used for good, though they usually get less exposure, like The Good Shepherd.
Thanks to everyone that contributed, I've made a list from your suggestions of quite a few for upcoming moviefests in my living room!

Oh yeah--I just watched the Fourth Kind, which should wake up anyone to the abduction phenomenon, or at least the fact that there's millions out there who take it seriously. I was shocked at what I was seeing on Netflix (with real movie stars)...speaking of movie stars in abduction movies, Christopher Walken portrays Whitley Streiber in Communion, though I wonder at his screenplay...it could use a revamping making truer to the book (updated effects would help a lot too)

At the time, this movie did have a lasting effect as far as "waking" up to what it might be like to have a war thrust on me and the people around me. In the movie I felt the senselessness...the people not mattering really, just being in the way. There is a scene where helicopters are coming at people on the ground (villagers). All of a sudden I felt what that might be like, the terror from the "monsters" coming at me.

I had a geneticist boyfriend once, who wanted me to watch the film "Blade Runner" with him.
One of the main characters was a Replicant named Rachel.
At the time it didn't mean a whole lot to me, but later on I really started wondering why he wanted me to watch that movie.
Perhaps some underlying guilt at what they had done, the extent of what they were actually accomplishing IRL...
to think that film was made decades ago chills me.

Another film that awakened the anarchist in me was: The King of Hearts. this is a delightful film about how providence can prevail and innocence be rewarded.
I do love and have watched at least twice thru, all of the Star Trek Series' and Stargate series' as well. What I haven't seen mentioned is: Farscape. This brilliant and imaginative series is a must-see for any self-respecting Trekkie.
This has been a fun trip, remembering all my favorite movies and finding good suggestions of what to watch. Thanks.

Woman Walks Ahead with Jessica Chastain moved me to tears last night, not that it was such an incredible movie, though it was a good one in many ways, but because it brought home to me once again the plight of the Sioux people of Standing Rock who are still fighting for their lives and to keep their land safe from encroachment of the US government, now in the form of the proposed Dakota Pipeline.
Trump fans don't seem to want to look at this, and I can see why.
It's very ugly the way the Trump Admin is trying to push the pipeline through with no regard for the people or the environment there or downstream.
The treachery of the US government against the natives of this land continues.
The story of Woman Walks Ahead is based on fact, though there are quite a few departures from fact in the storyline.
The main character, Catherine Weldon, really did travel to the Sioux reservation to paint Chief Sitting Bull's portrait, though that was not her only reason, and their relationship was quite close.
(There is evidence he proposed marriage to her.)
But what brought the story home for me was how it linked up the events of the 1876 battle of Little Bighorn, in which Sitting Bull was victorious, and Wounded Knee.
That was in 1890, 2 weeks after he was killed because he was mistakenly thought to be leading the Ghost Dance movement, and a band of his people fled and were then mercilessly wiped out in the Wounded Knee slaughter . (Nearly half were women and children.)
Very tragic, important and heartbreaking events in the chronicles of Native America!
Catherine Weldon was not present during the last year of Sitting Bull's life ( the movie places her there), but she was a very key figure in the years just before that.
A remarkably brave woman, who did her best to help the cause of the Native Americans.
They need many more such champions now.
The scenery in the movie is beautiful, there are a lot of Native Americans in the cast including the man who played Sitting Bull, and the behind the scenes stories about the making of the movie are interesting.

I hope this thread gets revived. There is still some good coming out of Hollywood, (however weird) and the movie industry as a whole (free flu shots not included--they were being given out at the Golden Globe Awards, if you didn't know...).

I have not been to a movie in many years. I do not like modern-day cinema and TV.
The three that come to mind now from decades ago are:
Parallax View (Political assassination and propaganda)
Three Days of the Condor (Intelligence gathering and manipulation)
Network (media manipulation and propaganda)

I'd like to add, https://deadline.com/2018/12/don-lusk-dead-disney-animator-fantasia-bambi-charlie-brown-peanuts-hanna-barbera-1202527449/ Don Lusk who helped take a dream of writers who wanted to convey deep emotional content died before making it to 2019. He was 105 years young. Nobody paid attention to his dying, many paid attention to his storyboards.
Who could forget Bambi? And the messages in there?

Don Lusk, was an animator and director who worked on Disney classics including Fantasia, Bambi and Pinocchio before moving to Hanna-Barbera in the 1960s, he died Sunday.
He went on to draw for cartoons and such classic Disney features as Song of the South, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty and 101 Dalmatians, among others.
In 1960, Lusk moved to Hanna-Barbera Productions, which would be a major force in TV animation. There he drew cartoons for such memorable characters as Woody Woodpecker, Yogi Bear, Huckleberry Finn, Atom Ant, Chilly Willy and the Beary Family.
In the late 1960s, Lusk began working on Peanuts TV specials including A Boy Named Charlie Brown; It’s the Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown; Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown; and It’s Your First Kiss, Charlie Brown.
Lusk continued to work in animation into the 1990s, working on such series as The Jetsons revival — he had drawn for one episode of the original 1960s show — Adventures of the Gummi Bears and multiple episodes of Captain Planet and the Planeteers.
He helmed more than 130 episodes of the 1980s classic The Smurfs, earning back-to-back Daytime Emmy noms for Outstanding Animated Program. He also scored a nom in the same category in 1990 for A Pup Named Scooby-Doo and directed for such toon such series as Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventures, Yo Yogi!, Gravedale High, Jonny Quest, The Flintstone Kids, Challenge of the GoBots and The 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo.

Above, Night on Bald Mountain, from Fantasia, Disney 8 min playtime.
I appreciate what reaches all people, all kids, all those wanting to get in and experience the magic of what good animation before CGI can do.

Well I do not consider that this film 'woke me up'! But it does portray a great deal of that which I find to be relative to 'life' here!
A mysterious creature, known as Ink, steals a child's soul in hopes of using it as a bargaining chip to join the Incubi - the group of supernatural beings responsible for creating nightmares.
but it is much more.... not great acting, not great quality....but stunning in it's description of the interaction between this world and another, including the drama between 'good' and 'evil'!
Worth the time to view in my opinion.

I have yet to watch Cloud Atlas from beginning to end. I've seen bits and pieces of it.....but man, is it ever a long movie and it's all over the place. That being said, I do know that it's a good movie and has a strong message. It's on my hard drive and I'll get to it eventually.

The Gods Must be Crazy
---
Thanks Bill (and all other posters) for the suggestions ... I selected 10 movies from this thread to watch next.
I saw "The Gods Must be Crazy" last night, it is educational, insightful and entertaining at the same time, very good movie !
Perhaps I have been a bushman in a previous life, I feel very comfortable in a rainforest environment. I feel strongly that
"owning things" is indeed a key element in making our lives more complicated.
Let me contribute to this thread by adding Deja Vu (2006) (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0453467)
I saw it 3 times to check some details I missed before.
