View Full Version : The Knights Code of Chivalry...

Greetings, fellow Avalonians. :)

If I may kindly request a moment of your time, I should like to draw attention to a set of ancient and timeless customs. Namely, the Knights' Code of Conduct.

I chose to place this here, as I feel that these at heart, represent some profound Spiritual concepts, which are by no means without the opportunity for modern application.

Please allow me to present:

The Knights Code of Chivalry and the vows of Knighthood, as described in the Song of Roland:

* To fear God and maintain His Church (Love Creator and share of Its Love)

* To serve the liege lord in valour and faith (Serve Creator)

* To protect the weak and defenceless

* To give succour to widows and orphans

* To refrain from the wanton giving of offence

* To live by honour and for glory(of Creator)

* To despise pecuniary reward

* To fight for the welfare of all

* To obey those placed in authority - (ok, maybe not this one. ;) To respect though is fair - they are playing their roles in the Game with such verve)

* To guard the honour of fellow knights

* To eschew unfairness, meanness and deceit

* To keep faith

* At all times to speak the truth

* To persevere to the end in any enterprise begun

* To respect the honour of women

* Never to refuse a challenge from an equal

* Never to turn the back upon a foe

These can be summed up (and were, by the Duke of Burgundy actually), as:

* Faith
* Charity
* Justice
* Sagacity
* Prudence
* Temperance
* Resolution
* Truth
* Liberality
* Diligence
* Hope
* Valour

Noble concepts indeed. Seems the world is sadly lacking in enough quality Knights these days.

Though, it doesn't have to be this way, and indeed, the potential is great for times that are changing.

I personally undertook these vows to my Creator, as a way to live my life here to the best of my ability, and to be of service wherever I see a need that I can meet.

It is a way of life that promotes personal excellence, in all that you do.

Not from any sense of misplaced 'superiority' you understand; simply from the earnest and heartfelt desire to strive always for the very highest expression of your Self, that you can be. :)

It is a path that promotes simply not accepting second best from yourself. To accomplish whatever task you may be doing, with the kind of diligence, dedication, and precision, worthy of putting your name to. Even when you think no-one's watching. Because it's not for show, it's for you, and for your Creator.

I thought it may make for an interesting discussion, to see if any of my brothers and sisters here live by a similar specific personal code of conduct? I'd love to hear some thoughts from you if you do.

And if you don't? Why not consider becoming a "Knight of the Life Force" yourself? ;)

Thanks for your time. :)

Sounds good, but they didn't apply that code to the jews or muslims when they were on crusades though.

Of course. :)

Though this was a personal flaw in their execution of their vows, rather than in the principles of the code itself. :wink:

Indeed, you are correct.

Take this for what you will, I speak now from my own nonconventional understanding. Please, feel free to not take me seriously at all.

Platinum, here, has struck directly into the heart of Avalon (the real Avalon, which this forum is an image of, a representation, potentially). In my estimation, there are many here who are in a place in their own consciousness to see the Truth that is behind the spirit of this original post. Thank you, Platinum.

Something greater is afoot in this place, something that is familiar, something alive in us in all the times and places we inhabit. There is a wall around this Truth, and Platinum has, to my mind, knocked a huge chunk out of this wall and a brilliant Light is shining forth.

As this Knights Code reflects my own standard, my own ideal that I aspire to, I will say it is my Oath to follow this Code to the last of my Strength. My Leige is the One Infinite Creator. Now, who is with me? What I am seeing is that this could be a truly worthy exercise in unity consciousness.

(Note, this isn't meant to be an attempt to hijack the thread. If the OP thinks so, mods please make it a separate thread.)

Not at all. Tis indeed the intention. :)

I try to live my life to the code of the knights , but with a more christian theme like the Knights of old.

One of the definitions of the word "fear" would be "reverential awe". This is usually the context in which the word is used when referring to God.

Indeed, naturally.

Thanks for pointing that out in my absence PurpleLama. :)

Imagine a cowering, trembling, fearful Knight. Think said Knight may have chosen an inappropriate form of Service. :wink:

A part of my understanding is that we are experiencing a time of testing, when the reality is used as a venue to determine our exact level of integrity within our free will. Both a stone to sharpen the spirit against whilst following this Code, course, in the face of today's adversity, and also to prove if your Heart is True. In holding such ideals we invite precisely those circumstances that would test the adherence to said ideals. But, as such ideals further align us to the One Infinite Creator, so does Intelligent Infinity respond more and more to our calls for aid as we bring our own Strength to the aid of others.

Absolutely. Exactly the way it is meant to be.

Life will always provide us with opportunities to work upon ourselves, and test our progress in the areas we've chosen to work upon. The Game is designed this way.

The realization of this, magically turns "problems" into challenges. :thumb:

It is the Refiner's Fire; a crucible for character development, in which we may transform.
