Camelot has just been defeated by an army of people
that can not die. A powerful witch has just stolen
a magical cup "The cup of Life", from Arthur after he
got it from the druids and used it to give her army eternal life...

Arthur, Merlin and a friend were out of the castle
when the army invaded camelot.

Arthur and the rest, made their way into the castle
in time to see Arthurs father "King Uther" dethroned
and King Uthers illegitimate daughter "Morgana", takes
the throne as the new queen of camelot.

End of show

During the whole series so far, merlin has never let
arthur know about his magical powers but i'm betting
that in this season finally, that merlin will finally
reveal his powers so that he can help arthur get back
camelot.

Stay tune to the SyFy (Sci-fi) channel on friday 10 pm
EST for the last show of the season....

Synchronistic attempt to metaphorically espouse viewers with direction, concept, and truth.

- or -

Marketing scheme to cash in on an age-old storyline with 'new' twists and turns, suspense and dramaticism.

Is this the same series that first came out in 2008?

Since it was on TV I will surmise the latter choice.

I watched 1 episode of Merlin. It seemed too sappy so I discontinued. I could ask if it's worth watching, but really, is anything?

There is a new series out now. It's called... Camelot.
I watched the first episode. Very high quality production. Good cast. Potentially impressive.
Merlin is played by Ralph Fiennes. He can often be seen in these period pieces. Good actor, but scary. A little like Nick Cage in that respect.
Since there seems to be a lot of money behind this show, chances are that it will not be as honest as the name implies. There's quite a lot of blood and sex, no doubt to attract more viewers.
Anyone seen it?
