INTERNET PRIVACY:
All social networking/dating sites are heavily monitored. Almost all the big ones have servers in the USA, so all data can be taken with a warrant. The kind of things I do to confuse the trackers is to use a proxy IP address, to use false names, false birthdays & always a free email - sometimes different emails for different dating or networking accounts, and a photo that's not 100% clear (e.g. witha big hat) to avoid face recognition software. Its also important to clear cookies, passwords, & browsing history very often.
Its very important to have a good anti-virus programme like Kaspersky, to have a firewall running & all Microsoft programmes with automatic updates turned off (so viruses are not put on your computer by mimicking updates).
I have Acronis on my computer & I have a back-up of a fresh-install of my operating system with all my favourite programmes - I use Acronis to restore to the fresh-install every week as it saves hours of manually re-installing programmes. (This should wipe all history that's kept in files of my operating system).
The internet is really the worldwide wiretap - if you are being monitored its not good enough to re-install all your operating system, you have to get a new email, skype, facebook - you can't log into your old ones as they will have "broken into them." (Remember the guy they caught when je made a skype call in Sri Lanka??). The most secure email is mailvault.com as it doesn't put cookies on your computer & doesn't record your IP address (but its very basic & doesn't handle big attachments, etc.). Hush messenger is more secure than yahoo messenger.
There are ways to get through all these defences,(e.g.. tap your internet connection) but I think it would be a lot of work & they wouldn't bother for most people. This is not paranoia - remember G. Bush gave US telecoms exemption for unwarranted wire-taps. if you know how this was really used, you would disconnect all your phones & internet.
