Close, but no cigar

An asteroid as powerful as 15 atomic bombs whizzed past Earth at just 10 times the distance of the moon at the weekend.
The 50m cigar shaped rock known as GP59 could have destroyed a small country, but was barely noticed as it passed within 3.2million km of Earth.
It was picked up by Spanish astronomers last week who determined it was heading towards us.
It is five times bigger that one that exploded over Indonesia with the power of three atomic bombs in 2009, New Scientist said.
