Interesting that the person who felt the quake on the ats thread said that the dog was barking at nothing about two minutes before they felt the quake

Hi Everyone,,

So far looks to be no real damage. From when I drove through Charters Towers years ago, there's very little out that way in terms of population. So for now a sigh of relief.

Cheers,
Lily

NORTH Queensland has been rocked by a 5.4 magnitude earthquake, with reports from across the region of buildings "shuddering''.

The quake struck at 3.31pm, about 180km southeast of Townsville.

A preliminary report by Geoscience Australia has the 5.4 magnitude earthquake rupturing on land between Bowen and Ayr.

The United States Geological Survey says the quake struck at a depth of 10km and initially had the quake listed as a 5.2 magnitude tremor.

The quake was felt as far away as the Whitsundays off the central coast of Queensland and in the state's capital Brisbane, a Geoscience Australia spokesman told AAP.

PS - Could'nt feel a thing down here in Brisbane, however Townsville is some 1337km away.

Note: South Australia is probably the most Earthquake Prone State in the Country.
