A magnitude-6.6 earthquake has struck off New Zealand's coast, raising fear that a tsunami could follow the powerful tremor.
The US Geological Survey said the quake struck the northeastern coastal areas at 1:02 a.m. local time (1302 GMT) on Monday.
The quake struck around 550 kilometers east of Auckland.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a local tsunami warning.
However, it said there was no threat of a widespread destructive tsunami.
No damage or casualties have been reported in the region so far.
This is the second strong quake to hit New Zealand this year.
A magnitude-6.3 quake ravaged the city of Christchurch, killing over 180 people in February.
