I often see people mention that THEY signed up for this, implying that they were reincarnated here for a purpose of some kind, maybe not even from this planet. What about people that didn't sign up for this, people from this planet originally, the average Joes on the street and members on this site.
There are some people that view this as their first and only time on earth. Not everyone here is reincarnated and it seems to be cropping up all over the place.

It is often seen that Organized religion/religion or religious practices in the alternative community are a form of brain washing by the government and other groups, yet the belief in reincarnation is widely accepted
What are your views on reincarnation?
Do you feel it is more valid in comparison to other religious practices?

Interesting point!
The dogmas of organized religion, for the most part, have to be accepted or rejected "based on faith". Many of the spiritual techniques of the alternative community can actually be practiced. You can, for example, practice kundalini yoga and with enough discipline and hard work experience the advertised effects. The little yogi does not say "believe". He says concentrate on your breathing.
This appeals to me. I don't want some priest telling me the nature of reality. I want to explore it myself.
This applies to some extent to reincarnation. You can visit a past life regressionist and perhaps re-experience some of your own incarnations.
I would recommend the books by Brian Weiss, MD:
Many Lives, Many Masters
Same Soul, Many Bodies

I am in the middle of "Same Soul, Many Bodies" right now, but i have always known about reincarnation, and have past life memories, been taught about it since childhood.

I think "being taught about it since childhood" probably makes all the difference. Most children are discouraged and taught to ignore things like this, at least in western culture.

How do you even know if you have had past lives - what are the signs you should be looking for? I mean, just a 'hunch' can mean too many things and nothing at the same time.
And if the answer is "Go see a psychic." OMG, can anyone suggest one a 'honest' one in Sydney, Australia?

The answers to past life dreams start within the dream world. You have to do some studies first, raising of your vibration just before sleep, contact a guide, a dream master who will assist you in understanding your past lives. You have had many lives, most is of no importance to look at, only ones where you are holding fear or holding some karma attached to them and it is not allowing you to develop. You know these dreams because they are not like ordinary dreams, they are so real. THe main thing is to finish off your karma and dross that is holding you here, so you are free to travel in your dreams to other dimensions, times, universes to learn and bring things of beauty and wisdom back onto the earth plane. If you want to know more you can PM me.
Many blessings.

As a young child I often wondered “what happens when we die?”, It just seemed impossible that after this life we ceased to exist, so much so that to me it felt like a knowing, a few years later I began hearing about reincarnation which I soon put in the “too hard basket”.
Today I believe that our souls do journey through lives and without wanting to delve too deep I think factors that may play a part in reincarnation are.. lessons learnt or not learnt, finished or unfinished business, relationships, karma (or universal laws) and maybe even to assist others or possibly assisting on a global scale (such as today).
When you look at people you may know or meet and factor in the idea that they may have lived many lives in many different places you can begin to view them in a broader and much deeper context, adding a level of intrigue or mystery.
I do agree that this is a first and only time for some people.
In a nutshell many of us have different belief systems, I have certainly pulled mine apart and rebuilt it at times.
Great questions posed, thanks
I can't decide on reincarnation.
It makes more sense than heaven/hell, simply because nature flows. Heaven/Hell would be a stagnation and would eventually entropy and collapse. I believe we are already in Heaven/Hell and it is up to us to decide which we experience together by our actions.
Then you have to ask, if there are 7 billion people on the planet now, and in the past, especially during ice ages, there may have been a few thousand if that... ...where did everyone come from? And what happens if we stop breeding, or accelerate breeding? Is there an incarnation travel agent somewhere and mostly empty 2 star destinations waiting for a new lease of life when we fill up here?
And if we are all one, then aren't all incarnations 'mine'?
And what about animals? Animals live in harmony with nature and the universe, making them far more spiritually advanced than any human.
See? Reincarnation is too confusing for our understanding of it to be correct.
As for the point about do we all reincarnate, well, no. I'm starting to believe that not all of us are human and not all of us have spirit (or what most call soul, I see the two as different). Which would solve all of the above problems. This gets us into the realm of Organic Portals though and that's a dark subject.
I just see reincarnation as the most likely scenario. I have felt what seems like past life inertia when I was young.
I like to use this 'lense' of perspective when considering the deeper truths of the universe:
"When I'm judging a theory, I ask myself whether, if I were God, I would have arranged the [universe] in such a way." -Albert Einstein
The point of the quote is the universe is set up(regardless of if it was designed by a being[s] or not) as perfect as it could be to allow all that it does in terms of diversity, and you can figure some of it out just by trying to think of what makes the most sense.
Densities are something I could see in the design too. No more injustice at some point would be in my design if I was making it :p But it's something I don't know.
I like it that people view reincarnation as at least valid as a theory. It's a sign of the times, and how much more information we have access to than we used to. No oppressive, negative influence religion speaks of reincarnation.
Once we have scientific proof of reincarnation(if that happens), I see a nice fallout from false belief systems. Just a thought. We are approaching major scientific discoveries I think. Next 100 years anyway. These scientific discoveries could be more the catalyst to change in paradigm shifting that makes the biggest difference. Like if ETs were shown to be existent. The soul scientifically found. Chakras perhaps found too. Electronic telepathy being a big one too for change.
Reincarnation is my #1 theory. But that doesn't mean I know it's real. We could form a soul from the source at the beginning, and form back into it at the end for one example. But to me incarnating many times makes much more sense. I don't discount views that speak against it. I keep an open mind. But reincarnation seems to be the model to me.

Omni, There is a story unfolding throughout the universe, and we are part of it. Sentient reincarnation is the way of things. IME. (in my experience) That is true for humans and ETs. ;);)...;)

In terms of reincarnation, humans and ETs aren't really as separate as we appear to be. Most people might stick with their preferences and reincarnate within the same species, but every now and again people mix it up a little and reincarnate somewhere else. A lot of people have 'brand loyalty' when it comes to buying cars, but you know humans and aliens are just Fords and Volkswagens. Every now and again, however much you prefer Fords, you might just try a Volkswagen for a while.
When I think of past lives, future lives and reincarnation, I prefer to think that the 'me' who sits here inside this life is a creation of the 'real me' who is bigger and better than I am. My life, from the small perspective, is just a day in the life of the 'real me'. When he goes to sleep at night, one life is over, and he'll wake up after a while in a new life.

I know people who would say they are Italian or Irish or whatever who in reality are 2nd or 3rd generation Canadian. I wonder if this happens to ETs also. Maybe that's why they are vaque about where they are "from".

My view? Been there, done that and hopefully can get off the threadmill.
It does happen to ETs too, but they may not have a purging of memory like we do.

Maybe its not linear. Maybe our 'past' selves are other selves of us on different timelines now!!! Clues are the different parts of your own beingness, different aspects of your own nature which you may, or may not decide to activate or access. Maybe we can access these different selves through our brain. Maybe thats why so much of our brain is unused. We are not taught how to.
Just wanted to introduce this idea for discussion. It's not something I am familiar with, I've just had little clues. For instance, just as Inelia talked about, she accessed an Inelia who could talk French!

I have seen a past life regression therapist before, who placed me under hypnosis and I did see some past lives. It was amazing because when I finished, I understood why I liked/disliked certain things based on past experiences. I also saw my current girlfriend during the regression. I was viewing different experiences we had during our relationship in the 70's and 80's in the east cost of the u.s. The amazing thing about that was that I sat in on her session with the same therapist, and she seemed to see similar events and everything unfolding from her point of view. I seemed to appear as many different characters in her past lives.
It makes too much sense not to believe it .

Both my husband and myself have recalled many of our past lives. The memories are so vivid they are now part of who we are, not who we were.
My husband's last life is traceable. I've found him on ancestry.com. Only thing is that he knows more about how he died than the records say.
Personally I am embroiled in integrating a recently awakened past life memory that could not have happened any earlier because it involved my mother, and had to wait until she passed which was six months ago. It was a biggie, very tough to swallow and explains sooooo much about my early life and family dynamics. I am not finished understanding it yet.
Memories are unlocked via dreams, visions, meditations, during healings, regressions and soul fragments retrievals, as well as spontaneously when visiting the location, or just hearing the small voice inside. The most important thing is that when you have the moment of recall, you just know it's right. That was you. Seeing that aspect of you ties together many loose ends, likes & dislikes, relationships etc.
I find that they often come to the surface when there is something that needs to be integrated, thus the learning is complete and it's time to move on. Many people are at the end of a reincarnational cycle and will leave after this life. They are here to help the ascension progression, so they incarnated a few times, and took on the mantle of worldliness in order to clear it in free will. Integrating past lives quickly is a symptom of a person who may be shifting gears.
All time is concurrent of course. Physics proves that. We are here to experience and learn, that's it. But it takes more than one lifetime to learn the cause and effect of the myriad of choices available. That's my understanding.
