The 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake: Postseismic Slip Distribution Model - Inferred from GEONET Data

"We constructed a postseismic slip (afterslip) distribution model using surface displacement data observed by the GPS Earth Observation Network System (GEONET) for the 2011 off the Pacific coast of Tohoku Earthquake.

Eastward displacements are observed along the Pacific coast from Aomori Prefecture to Chiba Prefecture. The observed postseismic displacement partly includes crustal deformation due to aftershocks. A postseismic slip expands in and around the inferred coseismic slip area . In particular, relative large slips are estimated in the northwest and in the south (off Choshi) of the coseismic slip area."

As you can see, GEONET and GSI finally released to the public a model showing massive earth displacement towards the Eastern seismic fault line. If a small portion of the Ocean's floor would collapse (as different sources suggest), then Japan will definitely slip towards East for several miles, submerging into the ocean. This event would also cause gigantic tsunamis and other unpredictable events. A similar event had never been recorded in our history, therefore the consequences cannot be foreseen.

We had an excellent cartoon in our local paper of two guys sitting in the square in Christchurch surrounded by devastation. One says to the other "Now, what were we arguing about?!!" Sort of puts things in perspective. If Japan goes down, the petty arguing on this forum will be swept away.

Go have a look at this post and thread where this is already discussed:

http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?18326-The-sinking-of-Japan-5-years-before-the-March-11-earthquake&p=197251&viewfull=1#post197251

The total change estimated for high-tides on that coastal area of Honshu is 50 centimeters-- 1/2 a meter.:

There is no "sinking" as it has already occurred and it's now over and done with!

and that is the truth? other sources seem to suggest differently, but obviously we will only know when it goes tilt...

well what really amazed me was how many were so tangled up in worry over how the disaster would affect them by radiation spreading around the world that they gave no thought to those in Japan who are trying to recover from an incredible disaster...

I don't know about all of you, but as long as I feel the hurt in Japan, I can't worry about myself, our problems are nothing compared to theirs...
