On March 20, 2011, professional videographer Mitchell Crooks was assaulted by Las Vegas cop Derek Colling, as this video recording clearly proves. Crooks was falsely arrested and jailed.

Thanks to media coverage, the charges were dismissed, but Colling has been unofficially cleared of wrongdoing and is still being paid while under a temporary suspension.
As has previously happened to Colling, he will ultimately be officially vindicated and his only "punishment" will have been a six-month paid vacation. Call the Las Vegas police at (702)828-3231 and ask why they would continue to employ such a violent person (who has already fatally shot two people, including a 15 year old, in just five years on the job. He has also been the recipient of dozens of other complaints about his brutality.) Note that Colling's excuse for attacking Crooks was that it is illegal to make video recordings while trespassing, but Colling did not even bother to establish whether or not Crooks had the property owner's permission to be there. As it turned out, Crooks is the property owner. Crooks is disliked by cops because he videotaped two white cops beating a 16-year-old black boy in 2002, which led to the cops being criminally charged. Police officers are allegedly trained to avoid escalating situations, but Colling clearly provoked Crooks in this encounter. As this video graphically evidences, police officers are brainwashed into dehumanizing civilians and viewing them as the enemy. As there is little if any accountability in any police department, even with videos like this one proving their felonious assaults, there is no incentive for cops to follow any laws except their own. Power with no accountability breeds crime and arrogance. This incident screams volumes about the contempt which cops have for the taxpaying citizens who pay their salaries. Police officers routinely torture and even murder their enemies, many of whom are not even criminals, in ways which cannot be proven. Cops are sanctimonious frauds who hide behind a facade of law and order. They are lying cowards who never admit to their crimes, yet self-righteously criticize, assault, and otherwise torment anyone who will not confess to crimes which they did not commit. For every police crime recorded on video, there are thousands of others which have not been so memorialized. Millions of innocent, taxpaying citizens have been robbed, framed, beaten, tortured, and otherwise victimized by arrogant, racist, inept, political-hack cops. Most policemen do not give a rat's ass about upholding the law; their sole concern is to massage their unjustifiably inflated egos, blue-collar hero vanities, and unwarranted god complexes. Cops are not better than anyone else is. If police officers would just perform their duties in accordance with the law, there would not be such hostility towards them. If all cops were honest, even the lowest sociopathic thugs would respect them. Mitchell Crooks owns the copyright to this video. I have his permission to use it. All other uploads will be flagged for copyright infringement.

Thanks for the heads up on that story ktlight, it's not easy to watch but it's important to know what's going on out there. I well remember the propaganda about the use of tasers as they were being rolled out years ago, they were supposed to save lives by giving the cop a viable alternative to the use of deadly force, and to be used for this purpose only...RIGHT...
A whole lot of us are going to have to get to the point where we're ready to risk taking a beating or even killed by psychopaths like this guy to do what's right. I made that choice a while back, it's just a matter of when, and standing up for what. Here's a good example of an 'opportunity' I would love to have a do over on:
About 10 years ago me, my wife, and a good friend were having drinks late Saturday night at our backyard pub. Suddenly we hears a girl screaming and screaming , she sounded like she was getting raped. We ran to the front yard to look and there she was, wandering aimlessly in the middle of the street, cars going around her. She was in a very was dangerous situation and it was soon apparent she was on something very powerful. She was maybe 15. We decided quickly the best thing to do was get her back to our front yard, and call the police to get her some help. She was very combative, even cold cocked me in the side of the head once until we realized we needed to restrain her. It was not hard at all and me and my buddy gently held her down in our front yard until a cop arrived.
This guy was your stereotypical big, roided out, aggressive cop. He bounded right up, ordered me and my buddy to back off, plopped his 250 pounds right on her skinny little kid chest. With one hand he forced her arms behind her head on the ground, then with the other hand promptly filled her face with pepper spray. Until this point the situation was calm, she had tired out and was well under control. We were dumbfounded, but this was long before I had any awareness that these people are NOT god.
So then, having "secured the scene", he flipped her over on her face, screaming once again and blinded by the spray, and hog tied her. That's how she stayed until the ambulance got there, and that was how they loaded her up for the ride to the E.R.
If this were to happen tonight, it would be time to stand. No matter what.
Cheers,
Fred S.

The police are supposed to "Protect and Serve" the public. Now who are they "Protecting and Serving" ? Psychopaths do seek out positions of power such as police departments. The hiring process needs to include a psychological exam to weed out these worms. While doubtful, I hope the victim does get justice and the jack-boot thug looses his job. In actuality, the cop committed the crime of assault and should be treated like anyone else by being put behind bars and subjected to civil penalties as well.

So why not go to the court and get an injunction on him from being employed in a police role, a lien on the LVPD and see how they like that?
These dirtbags will only continue to do this whilst people whine and cry.

I say, everyone knows of these things and all that is seen are these videos with comments of "outrage". What purpose is there to take videos and "cry" or feel "anger" - is this not all that "passive resistance" can do!?
I say, what has changed from the time where each defends themselves and their "right to life" (Natural Law) - those who do nothing, only watch and voice "opinion" should feel shame as these things should not be.
How many videos must be seen before reality sinks in or has this simply become a form of entertainment!?

My 2 cents...and I'll warn you, it's pretty cynical...
Unfortunately, a lot of the same people who would agree that this is thuggery against an innocent person would be happy to see that same behavior turned against someone of a different race/religion/socio-economic status, etc. Why do you think the War of Drugs is focused in the ghettos instead of suburbia?

Sid, please explain what you mean. I'm not familiar with this procedure and we should all know what tools we have.
In the case of repeat offender cops like this, the problem is that the judge/s in this district are not on our side. This guy knows he won't be held accountable.

As far as the judges go, try and find a way to make these things a federal issue, such as a civil rights issue.
If you can do that, you are in a different jurisdiction and then all sorts of things are possible.
In this guys case, it woud be easy to make this a civil rights issue.

There is no such a thing. The police protect The banks, and are backed by The courts. That's how The system works.

Indeed, Lord. Who will people cry to when the police is unleashed. Police are the arms of The system, they are agent smith.

The officer needs to be placed on administrative leave immediately. If the officer is found to be guilty of excessive force, he should be fired. He's too much of a liability for the agency.

I just call and they said he was relieved of duty. "So he is fired" I replied? "That's what I said" answered the attendant.

Would taking the matter before the judges be 'passive'? Would there be any support for the victim without the video evidence?

I say, is it not, when one is on their knees which makes them passive!? How can the two, who serves the same divide, lest the "house" falls, unless it is controlled for purpose. What measure is it if what one may have in hand is not received - for how many times have been unknown with much more!?
To understand why is to "understand why", and not merely what is on the surface. For the below can be applied to topic for those with understanding; first step taken.

GlasStegalFan - thank you for the good news. Generally the internal affairs investigation is a long and drawn out thing but with the "obstructing a police officer charge" that was filed, it speaks for itself that the officer has no integrity and it would be awfully hard to fabricate justification for the officer's use of force. That in my opinion is the death blow against any defense argument the officer's attorney may raise in favor of his use of force.
The secondary issue is how much out of court settlement will Las Vegas PD and Las Vegas have to pay to Michael Crooks for that battery and for his civil rights being violated? Minimally he's going to have enough for his house to be paid for and then some.

Its a shame that so many of us are in the position to accept money as payment for crimes against us with no further action.
