Hi all

Some of you may remember that around christmas time I was seriously suffering from sinusitis. I asked for advice here and got introduced to the Nettipot. Being the anti meds chap that I am, I kept away from the quack and constructed from a 1/5 litre pop bottle and a washing liquid top ( suggested by another member, thanks ). After 2 hard months of pain and flushing, I finally cleared up the problem and now flush at least every 2 days with salt and bicarb.

My question is this: I know you can buy the salt mixes pre prepared for this purpose but do those who regularily use this device have any other mixes they prefer, maybe for certain things like colds, hayfever or sinusitis.?

I ask because before I tried the netipot I used to inhale the fumes from a hot ginger bowl which helped a lot, can fresh ginger be grated and steeped in hot water for use in a netipot?

Advice greatly accepted.

Blessings

I just use table-salt.

You can buy great neti pots and now you are well into the process you deserve a nice one dont you think ?

The problem with ginger is that it is harsh on the nasal membranes when it comes into direct contact with them.

I use the cousin of the Netipot (the NeilMed Squeeze Bottle) and it's pre-pared bicarb/salts packages and have never had a problem with them. I've learned to simply adjust the amount of salts/number of rinses to reflect the problem.

Take your process a step further and use xylitol sugar in the sinuses. I use a brand named Xclear. The xylitol is very effective at killing unfriendly bacteria. Manufacturers also make a xylitol toothpaste, which will also kill oral bacteria (but not the good ones).

Table salt is inferior and is processed. I'd use real sea salt.

I can attest to this use, the Netipot is awesome!
Especially if you have any sinus problem, infections, allergies(as I did), or for some a history of cocaine or an injury involving inhaling something.
