Hi Guys,
I've been surfing around for a variety of DIY faraday cages.

This one looks simple enough for anyone to make. I like how he tests it with his radio reception.

Have a look. Would appreciate if we could add a few different types on this thread to match all levels of capabilities.
Thanks

Looks simple enough. But there is no way we could pound a rod or pole that long into the ground, we have very rocky ground. I wonder if the rod has to actually be that tall.

Also, we have a whole house generator hardwired onto our house w/an expensive surge protector.... electronics is a major stumbling block for me. I get overwhelmed w/technicals.
And then too, how to protect solar panels etc.

How much notice would one have that something is coming our way??? Anyone else feel overwhelmed?

I don't know, I like being prepared and I bought an insulation bag (for cold food with a silver inner linning) and have there my batteries for the small solar panel that I have. Usefull to charge batteries and small appliances. Then I realized that if the grid goes down, so does the internet and which will be the purpose to have a computer then:smash:

After that I learned to do solar cooking and eat raw which seemed much more straight forward than investing a lot of money buying camping type appliances. The other tip I was given by a friend is that in case of cooling and no heating one can make a warm room which is a room in which the walls are covered with duves or carpets like the mongolians use. :smow:

There seems to be a wealth of knowledge amongst the indigenous people that still know how to do everything without electricity and computers so I continue to research while the electricity lasts and leave all "conventional" possibilities to resolve themselves :patsak:

The shopping troley with the silver lining may work though

Make a connection between the door and the rest of the cage, bottom, top and middle..... The way its done in the vid could cause troubles. Why: You'll be using that door and it will tear down in a while....

Then the grounding thing. The guy is just janking a copper pipe in the ground. Thats not the way it works! If he hit moist ground he's lucky otherwise it wont work. In europe most Central Heating and drinkwaterpipes are grounded pretty well. Make a connection with them. the grounding of the electricity network is another possibility to use.

Better use metal boxes, armystuff. Isolate them on the inside with wood or rubber. Ground them, the bigger the cable the better it grounds.
Take silverfoil and cotton strips. Make a long strip of them both. Put them on one-other, First the foil, then the cotton. Put your equipment on it and start rolling. Put this in your "faraday-metal-box" This way its doulbe prtected.

The more wires you ground your faradacage with, the better it works.....

Good luck........

Edit: Same works for older dieseltrucks. Put a copper strip on it. ground it every foot/30 centimeters. Take a good sized chain and connect all them poits with it and try to get the chain to hit GROUNDwater somewhere.

This way you are able to save the heatingrelais and startingequipment of the car.

in case of failure use the russian way... Build a small fire under your car and heat it up. When hot start the car by pushing. Older dieselcars will start this way! Make em run on Veggieoil to, not difficult to do! Will cost you around 800 euro's in Germany...... Not suitable for every dieseltruck, depends on the quality of the high-pressure injection pump......

Now you know what that Cash for Clunkers was all about..........;)
