The British police are to use bullets designed deliberately to inflict more damage to the targets under the pretext that officers should be able to intercept terrorists immediately.
The police said their marksmen in London will be armed with the new rounds as their standard ammunition.
Metropolitan police chiefs said they opted for the rounds for their huge debilitating quality when hitting a target and their lower chance of passing through the body to hit someone else.
The announcement by the police has raised worries that mistaken victims will be dealt such an injury that they are left no chance of survival after being hit by the bullets.
Officers shot Jean Charles de Menezes with the same kind of bullets at Stockwell Tube station back in July 2005 who was mistaken for a terrorist. The police mistake cost Menezes his life.
According to the police, their new rounds “petal” upon entry into the body like a flower but denied they were “dum-dum”, the slang used for a bullet banned by the Hague Convention of 1899 which broke into several pieces on impact.
"[It] should never be referred to as 'dum-dum', a slang term for ammunition deliberately and illegally altered by criminals to cause maximum injury and suffering,” the police insisted.
The force insisted the bullets do not splinter allowing medics to recover it in one piece though target suffer such serious injuries that leave them with almost no chance to live.

Great, so now the police are going to liquidate anyone they are told to?

Not much different to the old skool method of taking standard issue hollow points, inserting drop of mercury, re-sealing the point....:(

Nope, it is the most deadly type of dum dum bullet you can make.

LS can you explain how it works for me please because all I can imagine is the mercury would be pushed back with the velocity until it hits target then hammers forward!!

The round will hit the body and then the mercury shoots into you, much like a HEAT round.

Almost got there... the implications of that hammering forward are...
It hits the sealed point and causes it to flare open, if the projectile wasn't tumbling already it will be now and Lord Sidious has already pointed out the other not so delightful implications.
I think I really should have kept my trap shut....

While you are debating the physical effects, you are forgetting to consider what this means. After the recent riots in London, the Royals and elites are so terribly frightened for their own safety, they are doing all in their power to scare people out of attempting to resist the police or other minions who protect THEM.
This is a very good sign. THEY are afraid for a change. If we get too wrapped up in technical details, we miss the whole point which is the scare tactic effects. Are they going to work in our favor or theirs?
When I was watching the riot clips on Youtube, it was so grossly out of proportion all of those hundreds and hundreds of unhappy people and so few cops. A joke really.
Imagine that this happened again and these "deadly than ever" bullets are used. Big deal! So a few people die, it would not change the first scenario of overpowering numbers. The crowds can easily overcome these bozos or rather poor dears. If you get scared thinking about the effects of a bullet ripping through your body and stay home. Well, they have won without a shot fired.
Any further battles, won't be necessary. The day is coming when folks figure out that huge numbers working together can achieve anything even if it's just another idea ~ the power of working at anything in unity trumps all. Well, there is our power right there. Don't forget this important point. What is inside those silly bullets does not matter. There are literally BILLIONS of unhappy people, so who wins? Well, it's no wonder they're running scared. Do you see it? Bullets are meaningless. It just says they are scared, as well they should be. xoxoxox

Now that is an excellent catch.
You are right, this screams of desperation.
Thanks for pointing that out to all of us Darla.
