Thanks kt, I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Alan Watts. I discovered his weekly airing on the local NPR station by "accident" back around '97. I've read all books by him, about him, and heard each presentation numerous times. They never get old. Looking back now, my awakening that wasn't to happen for more more than a decade after that discovery owes a great debt to "the Alan Watts days".

Cheers,
Fred S.

P.S. Maybe someone can help me out here. There is an old Buddhist story he tells about a girl whom a master dips into a pool of water and she experiences a magnificent but tragic life in mere moments. As she is about to throw herself upon her husband's funeral pyre in desperate grief at the end of this life someone grabs her hand, and it is the master pulling her from the pool and asking "for whom do you weep"? The story makes me weep every time I run through it in my mind, but I've forgotten the details. DOES ANYONE KNOW IT?

Cheers,
Fred S.

Hello Fred,
The story describes everything that happens is as a dream...so why weep?

(I'll try and find the details if you wish)

Hi Tony, for the same reason I weep at times contemplating our existance here in this "reality", or watching an emotionally charged, well acted out movie. Not just as a result of sadness, but combinations of all emotions. Do you not weep?

Cheers,
Fred S.

Fred,
The more the joy, the more the sadness. Meaning the more one studies and meditates, which brings an understanding of ones true nature, which is pure awareness.
One then recognises this same nature in others.....but it goes unnoticed! So people suffer.
Then I feel sad, but it also motivates.
