View Full Version : Spider Dreams
It is very rare that I remember my dreams. It only happens when I wake up during them. Normal dreams I can decode myself as symbolic workings out of whatever is on my mind. Sometimes though, they seem external.
Last night I had two dreams about the same thing. The first time I can remember this happening.
In the first there was a spider, about 6 or 7 inches long. It didn't feel like a real spider. It was jet black and really bulky. I think there were a few of them but I only clearly remember one because it bit me on my left forearm waking me up. I thought, ARG SPIDERS!!! then realised it was a dream and went back to sleep.
Then I had another dream. This time the spider was the size of your average family car. Not very nice. This one didn't manage to bite me, it just chased after me. The last thing I remember is stopping and turning round to face the spider, wishing I had a bow and arrow. I woke up thinking, another spider dream?
I kept myself awake for a while to make sure I'd remember them both. I looked up the meaning online this morning but everybody seems to contradict eachother based on their core native belief. Some say it means an overbearing mother or unfaithful wife. Some kind of dark female. Others say it means betrayal or problems in business and the loss of a fortune. Others still say it means that it is time to grow up.
Does anyone have any ideas, or have you had a similar dream that you later realised was a portent of something?

small spiders could be a dream representation of Astral Ticks... which implies astral travel... A large spider I think could be a dream entity or vampire. If you keep having these dreams try to become lucid in them and kills the giant spider. In some shamanic cultures when one does this in dreams it is the first step towards becoming a shaman.

I don't like killing things, that's why I ran away. Although at the end when I decided to stop and kill it, I woke up. If I have any more I'll definitely give it a shot.

I have read many times (and sensed) that dreams of spiders are a sign of potential good fortune (usually financial). Don't kill the spiders, I have to disagree with mosh187 on that one. I think you are at the stage where you have the ability to process a certain type of energy, represented by "spiders", and thus it is being presented to you. (I know many people who are going through "spider" dreams and issues - it must be a global energy that needs processing)
I have had an unbelievably similar dream (almost lucid even) where I met up with a car sized tarantula. It was scary, but being the optimist I am, I decided to love the spider and appreciate it for what it was. At that instant, in my dream, the giant tarantula instantly returned the love I gave it 10 fold. It was an incredibly powerful experience, and the giant spider and I jumped and danced around and played together for a bit before my dream ended. When I awoke I felt that a long lost connection or energy had been restored, and that had been represented by my bizarre dream.
This was definately one of the more moving dreams I have had in my life, and the fact that I had to process a lot of fear before being able to interact with the spider in the way I finally did - it was very beneficial to me.
When fears or fearful things are presented to you in dreams (or in life) that is an oppurtunity to show love and view the results of the power that love has. My 2 cents.

Thank you DeDukshyn. It's interesting that when I chose to turn and face the Spider with the intention of killing it, I woke up. I really don't like killing things. Spiders, moths, flies, whatever. They all have a purpose or they wouldn't be here.
I've looked in to it a bit more and it seems that Spiders (because of their webs) are symbols of creativity and creative energies but our bodies (through genetic memory) are naturally fearful of them. In the mainstream they are also shown as negative. Even in Harry Potter you have Aragog and his family who are against everyone except the half giant Hagrid who is deeply connected with the none-human world. Perhaps we're intentionally turned away from them, in the same way that the number 13 is said to be unlucky when it is actually a very powerful number.
Arachne in the house....
I shall be looking in to that today and adding a representation to my altar. =]

I'm, curious if you've had the oppurtunity to encounter the spiders again? ... keep me posted ... spiders, (for some reason) seem to be close to home for me. I've always had a decent appreciation of them. Just consider the Corolla Spider ---> single handedly absolutely DESTROYS the theory of evolution through random mutation ... I use that one single example all the time to fight off the "Darwinists". The corolla spider would not exist without "Intelligent Design" --- period. This is something everyone should know about ... look it up and decide for yourself!

I haven't. PurpleLama got me reading about Arachne. At first I was reading various different new age types online giving contrasting symbollocks and then I found a version of the original story. While I was reading it and thinking about what it meant, I realised I was absent mindedly scratching my arm. I was having one of those pin prick sensations you get sometimes, like someone is poking at you. I froze when I realised that it was happening where the spider had bitten me.
I took that as a sign that PurpleLama was correct and I was being directed to that lesson. My interpretation of which, is that if you get cocky and arrogant, the gods will smite you because they like subtle beauty.
A couple of days later I had a dream about a kind of fox type creature. It had the colouring and general look of a fox but it was really small and its body was extended like some of the chinese dragons you see that look like dogs. The Never Ending Story and Spirited Away both have one. One of them was mouthing at my fingertips like puppies do when they want to play with you. It looks like biting to none dog people but it's not. I don't think it was an actual Fox though as it was small, slightly cartoony looking and really shiny like it was giving off light.

When everyone seems to contradict eachother, ask yourself the question; what do the spiders mean to you?

Running away screaming usually. I've been trying to get over that for the last couple of years or so, after learning that they are a major symbol of creativity and I think that their demonisation is part of the suppression of creativity.
I am not going to attempt to decode someone else's dreams but I will share a true story about a spider dream I had.
I dreamed that a spider was descending on a web directly above my face. I woke up and saw a large white-tailed spider (nasty venomous kind) descending on a web, directly above my face - very close and getting closer. I moved my head to one side and heard a thud as the spider hit my pillow beside my ear. The spider disapeared between some pillows. I eventually found and evicted the spider and made it very flat, before it could hide again in my bedroom. I am not afraid of spiders but that one certainly gave me a fright and a huge adrenalin rush.

Do you think it was really a dream, or had your subconscious sensed the threat and communicated to you as a kind of precognition that worked in the dream space? I'm not sure all dreams are dreams y'see. A dream feels like a dream when I can recognise things that are on my mind during the waking dream, working themselves out. Sometimes, it feels like they're external and more 'real'. The only way I can describe it is like the difference between a live tv show and a recorded one. You can just kinda tell.

I'm not going to attempt to define what dreams are or how that very vivid thought entered my mind when I was sleeping deeply. From countless other experiences, I am aware that I have a strong intuition that has saved me from injury or death many times. I have also had many instances of telepathic communication. Did the spider communicate with me? Was there a presence in the room watching (some might call it a guardian angel) and it planted the image of the spider in my mind? I don't know. I would love to know the answer. I would especially love to be able to train and perfect those intuitive and telepathic abilities.
As a side thought, I read somewhere that a feeling like a thread of spider web in your face, when no spider web is there, is a common indicator of a presence of ETs or spirits. I have felt both real and imaginary spider webs in my face thousands of times so I don't pay much attention to it unless I know there is a spider on me.

My grandma says spiders can represent something or someone in your life is trying to take control over you.
I'm guessing here, but have you made a connection between the spider dream
and what is currently happening with the Charles Atticus Stephen Hodges saga?
Many of my dreams are symbolic representations of what is going on in my life at that moment,
and I would think that spiders and their webs, which are after all designed to be traps,
pretty much sum up what was being done to Avelon during these last few months.

My intuitive feeling here is these two dreams are about the same thing. A warning of some sort, or a message to remain alert to danger. The first time, you shrugged off this warning without too much reflection and went back to sleep. The next time it came around with a much bigger arsenal to drive the warning home to you.

I doubt it, that whole situation isn't really important in my life. I've only been here about a month and so missed 90% of it.

I agree. I don't ever remember dreaming about the same thing twice. I've tried, when I've been having a great dream and been woken up. Try as I might I can never get back. I think PurpleLama got the meaning. After I learnt that story the dreams moved on to cartoony looking foxes and the spiders haven't been back.
