Does anyone else do these exercises?

I have now been doing them (almost) every day for two years and I certainly feel younger even if I do not look it :)

The Five Tibetan Rites

The Five Tibetan Rites is a yoga routine based on a ritual of exercises discovered in the early 1900's, by a British army colonel, Colonel Bradford, who was living in a Himalayan monastery. They are practiced around the world and are said to prevent aging. In 1939, Peter Kelder published "The Original Five Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation," which helped spread the rites in the western world. Mr. Kelder has since updated the book "The Eye of Revelation - The Original Five Rites of Rejuvenation," Borderland Sciences Research Foundation, 1989, ISBN 0-945685-04-1.

The rites are comprised of five different movements (with a sixth added for good measure), with each movement performed up to 21 times (Tibetans believe 21 is a perfect, mystical number). It is best to start with 3 repetitions of each exercise and gradually increase the repetitions. The entire routine can be completed in less than 10 minutes.

In his booklet, Kelder claims that while stationed in India, British army officer Colonel Bradford (a pseudonym) heard a story about a group of lamas who had apparently discovered a "Fountain of Youth". The "wandering natives", as he called them, told him of old men who inexplicably became healthy, strong, and full of "vigor and virility" after entering a particular lamasery. After retiring, Kelder's Colonel Bradford went on to discover the lamasery and lived with the lamas, where they taught him five exercises, which they called "rites". According to the booklet, the lamas describe seven spinning, "psychic vortexes" within the body: two of these vortexes are located in the brain, one at the base of the throat, one on the right side of the body in the vicinity of the liver, one in the reproductive anatomy, and one in each knee. As we grow older, the spin rate of the vortexes diminishes, resulting in "ill-health". However, the spin rate of these vortexes can be restored by performing the Five Rites daily, resulting in improved health.

I have found that I have far more energy, my weight has slowly dropped to normal for my height, and an old knee injury that used to bother me has all but disappeared.

Generally these 5 simple exercises have changed my life!

Thanks for posting this TigerLilly!

The exercises are a branches of a very old system of energy activation for the body, mind, spiritual complex. Yoga, taichuan and qigong are also branches of this system.

These exercises are very effective in directly activating the magnetic properties along the Cerebral-Spinal system.

Ha Tiger Lilly,

Yes, I also do these exercises regularly for over 20 years now.
After doing martial arts for 10 years followed by T'ai Chi and Qi Gong I ended up doing the Tibetans to keep fit and healthy.
I have also taught them for a while and always marvelled at the great visible results; healthy people with shiny eyes.
I experience that the breathing in between each movement gives the meditation.

The One: I like coffee too but maybe you need to change your brand when you need 20 per day, can't be real coffee...

This program is used by the Monks to live long, vibrant and healthy lives. In fact, Kelder's book states that many have lived longer than most can imagine by following the program often called the "Five Tibetan Rites".

Kelder outlines "many examples of the benefits of the "Five Tibetan Rites" including the following: , endurance and vigor; improved emotional and mental health; enhanced sense of well being and harmony; and very high overall energy."looking much younger; sleeping soundly; waking up feeling refreshed and energetic; release from serious medical problems including difficulties with spines; relief from problems with joints; release from pain; better memory; arthritis relief; weight loss; improved vision; youthing instead of aging; greatly improved physical strength

Kelder shares the five rites through the eyes of a fictional character in the British Army(although Kelder claims he is a real individual) driven by a seemingly irrational wish, a wish to recapture his health and youth.

This aging British Army officer embarks upon an adventure of discovery that leads to forbidden Tibetan ancient land obscured by centuries of isolation; a land of wonder, where miraculous feats are a part of everyday life. There, in the shadows of the earth's tallest mountains, he stumbles on the hidden Shangri-La, a mysterious place without time where people age but somehow never grow old.

So begins the chronicle of Colonel Bradford, whose extraordinary adventure brings him back to the West years later at age 73, looking and acting like a man of 45!

How did he accomplish this remarkable feat of rejuvenation? The secret is said to be in a series of five ancient Tibetan exercises, which anyone can perform in a matter of minutes. These simple exercises will restore youthful health and vitality by balancing and harmonizing invisible energy vortexes within the body."

So, you ask, how exactly do "The Five Rites" work?.......................

Good question. The five rites or exercises are designed to stimulate the seven major chakras or energy vortexes in the body. "The seven vortexes govern the seven ductless glands in the body's endocrine system, and the endocrine glands in turn, regulate all of the body's functions, including the process of aging." Energy flows from the Universal Energy Field through the chakras into the energy systems within our bodies, including the Meridian System.

Hi MariaDine

Oh yes there is the 6th rite. Not for everyone. LOL I won't ask who does this one!

Here is a good description of its purpose and power. There are somethings I wont give up for youth and energy:o

http://www.scribd.com/doc/7905854/Tibetan-Rejuvenation-6th-Rite

Tibetan Rejuvenation Rite #6restricted exercise

The series of Five Tibetan exercises described above is capable of being practiced two or three
times a day everyday during the entire lifetime. In contrast, the following exercise, according to
the Tibetan Lamas, has a very special purpose and it ought to be practiced only in
circumstances described below. If you are not sure, and do not practice the first five exercises
regularly, do not practice this exercise. You have been warned.

The deemed purpose of the Tibetan #6 exercise is to redirect the excess of sexual and
reproductive energy, generated by the activity of the what is perceived of as being the base
chakra (also referred to as vortexes) to all higher chakras along the spine, especially to the brow
chakra, which activity is related to our spiritual awareness and psychic abilities. According to

Lamas this exercise ought to be practiced only when the excess of the sexual urge is
experienced, otherwise this exercise does more harm than benefit, by draining the energy from
the base chakra.

By systematically practicing the first five Tibetan exercises it is quite possible to raise the energy of the base chakra so much, that the sexual urge appears and requires to be dealt with. This is capable of happening at any age.

One way to handle the situation is to dissipate this powerful energy in sexual activities. The
Tibetan alternative is to transmute it to higher use, to accelerate your spiritual development and
rejuvenate the physical body. Instead of dissipating the reproductive energy you may choose to
use it to regenerate cells in your entire physical body. The choice is yours; you have the free
choices, as always.

This is why those monks stay so young!

The spinning, the spinning! It makes me throw up. I've never been able to go round and round. Anyone know of a remedy for this?

I am trying these exercises, and I find that I need to work up to 21 reps on any of them. It does say to spin till you start to get dizzy, If you follow that, you should find your natural pace up to 21 each time. I tried 12 reps on most of them yesterday, and felt a lot of energy moving around for some time after ,and felt so tired a while after that that I took a nap. I am not use to any time of energy routine on a daily basis, and I am starting this at a time when the world energy is going into high gear, so I am alert for my natural pace here as well as the standard complaints of body and mind that cause people to give up on programs like this. I would like to here anyone elses thoughts on the pace of these things, as well as tips on how they made thee a daily habit.

You need to slowly build up to 21 reps

How many time should I repeat each exercise?
You want to work toward performing each of the movements 21 times. When you first begin, try to do 1 or 3 repetitions of each exercise. After a week, try to do 3 repetitions, then pause and try 3 more. You will certainly feel stronger in some of the movements than others. If you have trouble performing a complete set of 21, try to break it down into 3 sets of 7 repetitions with a pause between each set. Once you've achieved 21 repetitions of each exercise, you don't need to go on to more repetitions. These exercises are for restoring energy, not necessarily building strength. If you feel great after doing 21 repetitions of each movement, feel free to add another session later in the day to perform another set of 21 repetitions each.

Hello ! :)

In the first 50 seconds of this video is thaught the way you can turn around, without getting dizzy.

Chose a spot to focus, on eyes level ------------so that you don'tlook up or down, because that alters the verticality of your spine , --- and do as it is explain on the video. Star slowly, until you get the hang of it. With time , you will be able to do the 21 repetitions. After that...a considerable time after that, You will be ready to do the spins faster, and faster.

Ps - Do the spin with the arms open to the side , at shoulder level ----Just like it is done on the 5 Tibetans. Arms to the side helps to balance the spin.

For me is easy to do...I was a professional ballet dancer and now, I teach ballet, yoga Iyengar and Pilates.

Hi Johnf
You should begin by doing only three of each exercise and build up slowly, such as adding one extra each week. Do not rush, its about opening chakras, building energy and flexibilty.
Take care and read instructions carefully, and don't forget the correct breathing.

Master the breathing technic and one of the «side effects» is that you get thin. Start 5 minutes a day, soon you will find yourself doing it longer, because it feels so good.

Alternate nostril breathing , the easy one to do ------ start with an easy count. Then after a time you can hold for longer. ( /10 counts)

Watch the 2 video for Pranayama
Count to 6 breathing in. Relax your tummy/belly breathing in .

Hold your breath for the same time, 6 counts

Exale for 6 counts. It hepls if you slowly contract your belly while you breth out (like when you are blowing a big ballon).

Hold again for 6 counts.

Here, in the video he performs the 6 rite in a good pace.
As you know, one can only see some «things« in the video exercise. I mean , you can't «see» him doing the Bandas, which is the all point of this
The »bandas», is the name for the contration of the perinium muscles, the contraction of the belly muscles and the contraction of the throat muscles.

And repeated contrations of the perenium muscles (one at a time) are done in this exercise, so that you «push» the energy from the base chacra to the crown chacra, while you are also, breathing out the air (contract the belly muscles at the end of the breathing out) and straightning the spine.
Finish the upward movent with the throat banda. These 2 bandas are done one after the other.
Keep all 3 contrations for a couple of seconds.

Start again , breathing in and leaning forward slowly.

Mind the counts and don't rush, so you don't get dizzy. Breath in and out gently. The rest of the body should all be relaxed.

Yes, it is important. One is spining the aura to the right to energise it, so to speak....it also, helps to image it spining in a gold color (my favorite color), even if you don't «see» the color of you aura.

Ps- You get dizzy if you don't spot with intent . Try to focus on a large target - just like if you learning to throw with a bow and arrow. And don't rush. Keep an even rithm and watch your breathing. It all should be gentle.

The principle of Non -Violence begins with one self. Be gentle with yourself. Gentle body, gentle mind.

Hello Johnf

I have not read this second book, but in Peter Kelder's first book he recommends food combining.

I have tried this several times in the last ten years and always found it reduces weight and aids digestion. Its difficult to stick with especially in France where they eat bread with everything!

The idea is that if you do not mix certain food groups the food is more easily digested, the main rule being not to mix proteins and carbohydrates in the same meal.

Here is a good chart
http://abcompany.com/abco/aw/nutrition/food_combining.htm

Does anyone have long term experience of food combining they can share?
