View Full Version : Melbourne meetup.......

pharoah21

If you guys are interested, let us know. I'd love to be a part of a Melbourne ground crew. I understand that some of us have friends who are very 'avalonian minded' but not necessarily a part of the online forum. They would be most welcome to tag along.

What do we think folks?

Blessings

Cjay
3rd June 2011, 08:10
Yes, I am interested.

I propose Sunday 3rd of July, just because it's not too soon and not too far in the future. How about 12:00 noon, Southbank food court because it's central and sharing a meal is a great ice-breaker... I welcome alternative suggestions for date, time and place - perhaps a more private venue? The best would be a back yard (or park) barbecue. I prefer back yard because we can be fairly certain the weather will be miserable at this time of year and we might need to retreat indoors. I would like to offer my place as we have good sheltered outdoor space as well as plenty of space indoors. Only problem, for some, is that I am located in Mornington.

Comments and suggestions, anyone?

Mad Hatter
3rd June 2011, 08:29
Hi Cjay,

Thanks for the kind offer re your backyard I would do the same but don't have the facilities / space. Date works for me and Southbank vs Mornington is fine either way...

What do others think?

pharoah21
3rd June 2011, 08:41
That's a good proposal cjay, I'm down with that. I'm fine with both locations also........

Cjay
3rd June 2011, 08:50
Thanks for the fast replies. Let's wait and see what others say about the date, time and venue before we make a decision.

Ay doods,

Count me in on this one, I think. I've only got 2 friends which are 'avalon-minded' (one being my Dad), so to meet some more could be cool. I'm fine with both locations too, though food courts aren't my preferred places of dining so the generous offer by Cjay to meet at his place in Mornington gets my vote (the peninsula is one of my favourite spots to visit in Vic). Otherwise, my only other suggestions might be the food joints in the gardens (Fitzroy or Royal Botanic).

12pm, 3rd of July looks OK for me at this point.

pharoah21
5th June 2011, 03:42
Awesome........It may be better off to meet at cjays (if the offer is still there) because the environment might be a bit more peaceful, we could all bring some food, pig out, watch a dvd that can spark some conversations (zeitgeist etc).....if anyone needs a lift i'd be more than happy to drive.......

Cjay

Yes, the offer of meeting at my home is still there. It's great to see a few more responses.

If you have laptops I can bring a 16 port switch and a laptop with about 115GB worth of alternate research you can take a copy of / swap if you'd like... let me know.

Hello watchZEITGEISTnow and astrid,

I hope both of you - and the others who indicated an interest - can come to our Melbourne meetup, in Mornington on Sunday 3rd of July at 12:00 noon.

It looks like the numbers will be small enough to have the meetup at my home.

I will let each interested person know my address and phone number, early next week.

Hello Everyone,

Glad you are all getting together in physicality....sorry can't attend, I'm up in Byron, have family to attend to and a business to run.

If anyone here is a bit closer to Byron, would love to catch up.

If you get together, I will be with you in spirit.

Haydoods - just confirming my attendance for this.

Cjay: I know it's BYO food+drinks, but is there anything else we could bring that might be of use?

pharoah21: may I take you up on the offer of a lift?

I really like the idea of sharing resources. I presume each of us has a fair collection of their own treasure (if on physical media, more than can reasonably be brought along) - perhaps some requests might be of use? I'm currently interested in breathing techniques; also any other profoundly beneficial health items or practices (particularly those realised from personal experience) and perhaps some David Icke books (in preparation for the show).

I've got some books (actual books) by: Dr. Rick Strassman (DMT), Bruce Lipton, Dean Radin, Gregg Braden, Steven Greer, Amit Goswami, David Hawkins, Anastasia series... If any of those would be of interest to anyone, let me know and I could bring them along for a trade or something. Otherwise, I'll just bring any electronic media which may be of interest.

Cheers.

Hey everyone,

This sounds like a great idea, i've only just recently moved to Melbourne from Malta to study and have found it quite hard to find many people who are 'up to speed' on certain subjects.

I don't really have much physical material with me to share, but I'll potentially bring what I can...

pharoah21
30th June 2011, 08:50
I've only got a bunch of books so I'll just bring them along and we can work it out when we're there.

I was surprised to find out that Mad Hatter is someone I have known for about 35 years but it must be close to 25 years since we last spoke. All those I had never met before, it felt as though we are old friends too. Thanks again for coming all the way to Mornington. I look forward to our next meeting.

To anyone who was unable to make it or who didn't know about our meeting until it was too late, I hope you can join us next time we meet.

I would like to thank everyone who attended the 2nd Melbourne Avalonians Meetup. It was nice to meet the first timers and the old timers ;)

For those of you who couldn't make it, I'm sorry you missed out. I totally understand a few people had family commitments with Sunday being father's day. I was very surprised when my own (adult) children and my incredibly gorgeous grand daughter dropped in unannounced. Even my father and two of my sisters stayed for the whole day - and everyone seemed to enjoy the company and the discussions.

As happened with the first meeting, our time together was too short and there are so many unfinished conversations... which leads me to making plans for the 3rd Melbourne Avalonians Meetup.

I propose to host another meeting at my home two months from now, on the first Sunday in November - that is Sunday 6-Nov-2011, from 12 noon until late. Of course, I am happy to take suggestions for an alternate day, time and venue if anyone would prefer to do something different next time. As summer approaches, it could be nice to meet at a nice beach or park - we have hundreds to choose from.

For everyone who is not in Melbourne, may I suggest that you start organising meetings with Avalonians in your area. Our experience shows it is definitely worth the effort.

Project Avalon rocks and you people are great. Thank you very much.

I would like to add my thanks too. It is rare that I have been in the company of equals, and it felt wonderful. We all have so much to share. Thanks, John. Your next suggestion sounds good, I just think we can slip another meetup in before then.
I suggest another meetup at 6.30 at my home in Mornington on Saturday night October 1st. How about dinner? Each guest could bring a dish, say salad or main or desert. If you have special dietary needs you can bring your own dinner. I have a spare room if someone needs to crash. I have access to trestle tables and plenty of chairs. It is a simple dwelling with plenty of space, and in all humility I offer it as a possible venue. In these days when most of our life is spent in a miasma of ignorance, meetings like this are golden.

3rd Avalon Melbourne Meet Up
Mornington, 6-6.30PM Saturday October 1st
Hi ladies and gents! The date is getting closer for the next Melbourne meet up, just over two weeks away. So, it's going to be for dinner. Please leave yourselves plenty of time to get here. I'm thinking I might order or even cook:o a couple of roast chooks. I'll have some soft drinks and juice here, and maybe some chips. Cjay is going to be bringing some food, and maybe something for vegetarians. If others could bring a salad or two, and maybe even a desert or nibbles, that would be awesome. BYO alcoholic beverages.
For my address you can email or PM me, or find out from Cjay. It's only a minutes walk from the beach. If there are any special resources you'd like to bring and share, you'd be welcome. Partners, interested others, friends all welcome.
I did mention I have a spare room if some of you are coming from a long way, I just haven't got anything in it at the mo, ie. no bed, furniture, but I'm sure we can arrange something if it's needed.
I think that about covers it all. Hope to see you all soon!

A big thanks to Ron for hosting our FOURTH meeting yesterday. It was great fun and we discussed many interesting topics.

I would like to encourage Avalonians everywhere to meet your fellow Avalonians in your local area. It doesn't have to be anything elaborate. A picnic or barbecue is ideal. Every one of our meetings has been very interesting and worthwhile.

All of us who met on Sunday agreed we would like to meet again in the first half of December and we would like to make this the biggest and best meeting yet and the last one for 2011.

We invite your suggestions for a venue, date and time.

I have two suggestions for a venue and two suggestions for a date.

Plan B (or C) - I am very happy to have the meeting at my home, in Mornington, if another venue can't be found or if rain spoils plan A.

Plan A - Badger Weir Picnic Area, Yarra Ranges National Park, Badger Creek, Healesville (easy 1 hour drive from Melbourne, via the Eastern Freeway and Maroondah Highway). Badger Creek is a truly special place that few people know about despite it being very close to one of our most popular zoos, Healesville Sanctuary. You will kick yourself if you don't bring a camera and walking shoes. There are some easy bushwalks through stunning rainforest, barbecues, toilets, and shelters (like Balinese huts). If you don't want to walk, it's a beautiful place to sit, relax and recharge with the abundant natural energy that fills the clean air.

Sunday afternoons seem to work well so I suggest the following dates, as they both fall in the first half of December:

Sunday, 4 December 2011 or

Sunday, 11 December 2011

Suggested time: 12:00 noon until 5 or 6 pm, leaving plenty of time to meet, eat, walk, relax, discuss, contemplate, meditate and still get home in daylight.

Look at the pictures and watch the videos then let me know your thoughts about a meeting at Badger Creek and/or suggestions for other possible venues.

I would like to make a consensus decision about two weeks from now, locking in the venue, date and time about two or three weeks before the meeting.

How did this happen? December is here and we have still not decided on a date, time and place for our next meeting. The window of opportunity is closing fast.

The general consensus seems to be, "yes, we want to do it" but NOT ONE PERSON has offered any feedback or suggestions here.

How about a show of hands. If I don't get some feedback, I will just let this one pass. I don't want to be chasing people on their private email addresses and phones. I love you guys - all of you - but I'm tired.

I propose Sunday 11 Dec 2011, commencing at 12:00 noon, for picnic/bbq lunch at Badger Creek - weather permitting.

If rain is likely, then I offer to host the meeting at my home in Mornington, which worked very well twice before. Same date & time as above.

Done deal. We can sort out the specifics a day or two before the road-trip.

I haven't heard from Guy yet but I hope he will be riding with me too. So that leaves room for one (or two) more bums in the back seat.

Hi everyone,

The final meeting of Melbourne Avalonians for this year is planned for this coming Sunday, 11-Dec-2011 at 12:00 noon.
BYO food & drinks for a picnic or BBQ lunch.

Those of you who have attended any of our past meetings will know these events are very laid back, fun, interesting and well worth the effort.
Newcomers are always welcome and encouraged to join us.
You are welcome to bring your friends and family too.

We plan to meet at beautiful Badger Creek, Healesville – a truly special place – weather permitting.
If rain is likely, we will meet at my house in Mornington.

If the weather is nice and we are going to Healesville, then I have room in my car for four passengers.
I will be travelling via EastLink, with short detours only (eg. Dandenong, Ringwood).
If anyone wants to ride in my car, please put your hand up now.

Please let me know ASAP if you can come and I will send full details of the location very close to Healesville Sanctuary (and the alternate, wet weather venue - my home).

I really hope all of you can come.

John

Looks like I'm already going! :thumb: Possibly might make the drive myself, though. Such a lovely drive, you know. Of course, historically, this region is of great significance. Not far away from Badger Creek is the burial site of the last elder of the Wurundjeri, William Barak. It is in a tiny cemetery on the hilltop overlooking the former aboriginal settlement of Coranderrk. I went there to pay my respects. There was an aboriginal meeting place built opposite the Healesville Sanctuary, and I visited it to personally apologise to the aboriginal manager there for the atrocities we whites committed against his people. We shook hands, and I hope it goes just a tiny way towards giving them back their self esteem. There is an other worldly feel to Badger Creek, a link between this society and a time more simple and harmonious.

Very nice gesture, Guy. I have also been to that meeting place but it was rather late in the day so it was closed. The artwork there is stunning.

I think it's still too soon to be sure but the Bureau of Guessology's current prediction for Sunday is:

Morning rain then showers.

Partly cloudy. Areas of rain, easing to isolated showers later in the day. Isolated thunderstorms during the morning.

If it is raining in Melbourne, it's even more likely to be raining at Badger Creek. There are a few shelters there but it would be far more enjoyable if we had a sunny day, especially so we could do the cirucuit walk in dry weather. We can always plan another trip to Badger Creek next year. It's usually much dryer from January to early March.

I'm still hopeful for an improvement and I have asked the universe for a favour, so let's wait until Friday before we change to plan B (meeting at my home). I hope everyone will be happy for me to make a decision on Friday.

I'm keeping an eye on the weather forecast and I'm afraid it's not looking good for a picnic at Badger Creek on Sunday. However, as stated previously, I will make a decision on Friday.

The weather forecast for Sunday currently reads (in part):

Melbourne area

Cloudy. Areas of rain, easing to isolated showers by the afternoon clearing later in the evening. The chance of thunderstorms early in the morning.

It's not looking like a good day for a meeting / picnic / BBQ at Badger Creek. I have to make a decision before it's too late to get the word out to everyone. The decision is:

Meeting at Badger Creek cancelled due to forecast rain.
Plan B is for the meeting to be held at my home in Mornington.

Most of you have already been to my home but a few who have expressed an interest in joining us this weekend do not yet have my address.

Please send me a PM if you would like to come and need to know my home address and directions.

I will attempt to contact everyone who has previously attended one of our meetings or who has expressed an interest in joining us for the first time.

After discussions with a few Avalonians from the Melbourne area, I have the following suggestions regarding future meetings (suggestions from others are always welcome):

I would like to make the dates of our meetings more predictable so I propose that we hold meetings at 12:00pm (mid-day) on the third Sunday of each month. However, we have had one meeting on a Saturday evening and that was a great success. If anyone wants to volunteer to host a meeting at their home, that person should be able to choose the day and time.
I have no desire to monopolise the organisation of these meetings, nor do I want to hold all meetings in the east of Melbourne. We have members who live in the western suburbs of Melbourne and Ballarat.
I propose that our first meeting for next year be held on 15-January-2012 at Badger Creek. As stated in a previous post, Badger Creek is a very special place so I think we should try again to hold a meeting there. Normally, the weather is warmer and dryer in January.
I propose that we hold the February meeting on Sunday 19-Feb-2012 at Hanging Rock - another very special place (see video below).
One Avalon member who lives at Phillip Island suggested we hold a future meeting there. I propose that our third meeting next year will be on Sunday 18-Mar-2012 at Phillip Island (precise location yet to be decided).

Just a quick thank you to those who attended out meeting on Sunday 11-Dec-2011. It was a small group and we had some very interesting discussions. Seven people contacted me personally to apologise for not being able to attend.

Please put these dates in your diary for meetings in 2012 - on the 3rd Sunday of each month, starting at 12:00pm (midday):

15-Jan-2012 at Badger Creek
19-Feb-2012 at Hanging Rock
18-Mar-2012 at Phillip Island

It would be great if those who want to attend could commit early and RSVP here (in this thread), rather than calling / texting / emailing me at the last minute to cancel or simply not turning up.

Only five days to go until the next meeting of Melbourne Avalonians,
12:00 noon, Sunday 15-Jan-2012 at Badger Creek, Healesville.
Please read previous posts for more info.

All Avalonians are welcome. Your families and friends are welcome too.

BYO food and drinks for a picnic lunch / barbecue

The current weather forecast for Sunday is mostly sunny, max temp 28°C - in other words, a beautiful warm day BUT there is a cyclone now, near the north-west coast of Western Australia and that is already driving a lot of moisture down the west coast and into the desert, so anything could happen this weekend. You know how it is here - if you don't like the weather in Melbourne, wait five minutes. :biggrin1:

If rain is likely on Sunday, the backup plan is to hold the meeting at my home - many of you already know where that is. If you don't know, ask me in a private message.
I will make a final decision regarding the venue on Friday night and post details here.

Looking forward to meeting you all again and hopefully meeting some new people this time.

Cjay.

Sorry for delaying the decision on the Badger Creek meeting. Here's why.

Tropical Cyclone Heidi (now downgraded as it moves inland) continues to move south-east with strong winds and a lot of rain. Right now the weather forecast for the Melbourne area looks ok for Sudnay but the forecast is deteriorating and could get worse. I believe there is a risk we could get wet on Sunday which could spoil the meeting at Badger Creek. There is limited shelter at Badger Creek and it would be a shame if we had to take refuge in our cars - worse if we had to abandon the meeting.

I will review the forecast Saturday morning then post an update here and do my best to contact everyone.

Just got back from a great day out with Peter and Chris. The sun was shining, the children were frolicking and the stream was making a very pleasant stream gurgling noise.:p The most surprising event of the day was when an obviously adept kookaburra swooped from a low branch on a diagonal between Chris and I and absconded with half his sausage, straight from his upraised hands! It came so close with its passing that one of its feathers was stuck on the top of the tomato sauce bottle.

Very unfortunate that John's vehicle, after all the time in the repair shop, should break down on the way up. Still, as he said, it was a good place for it to happen, so near to home.

I think John's already got the next meetup lined up- 19th Feb. at Hanging Rock. Certainly an auspicious place! Thanks to all concerned, and I hope to see you all at the next meetup!

Cjay
15th January 2012, 11:48
Guy, thanks for the kookaburra story. Did anyone take some photographs at Badger Creek? If so, I hope to see them here.

I'm really sorry I couldn't be there but I am glad you had a good day.

When my vehicle broke down, I was only 25 minutes into a 2 hour journey. Thankfully, it didn't break down at Healesville or it would have been a much longer and more expensive trip back on the tow-truck. I would much rather have been immersed in the serenity of Badger Creek than stranded for two hours on the grass in the middle of the freeway. I wish I had industrial earmuffs with me as the noise of the passing traffic was painfully loud. My day improved when I had a surprisingly interesting conversation with the tow-truck driver. The mechanic whose team rebuilt my engine was devastated by the news. Based on my description of what happened, he suspects the timing chain broke. If so, it could be rebuild #3 coming up. I hope it's not that serious.

It's disappointing that only three people turned up for the meeting, especially when so many people previously expressed an interest in having monthly meetings and specifically expressed an interest in meeting at Badger Creek. I wonder if it is just because this time of year is particularly busy. Whatever the reasons are, I would like some feedback from the people who did not make it to Badger Creek, either here in the forum or in private messages to me. It is not to judge or chastise - I just want to evaluate whether it is worth the effort to try to organise these meetings. Every previous meeting has been worthwhile and very interesting but I wonder if people are getting bored with our meetings. If commitment levels are so low, perhaps we should cut it back to 3 or 4 meetings per year.

Please share your thoughts, everyone.

The next meeting for Avalonians and friends from the Melbourne area is scheduled for 12:00 noon, Sunday 19-Feb-2012 at Hanging Rock.

We understand that weekends might be difficult for some people so it has been suggested that regular, monthly, mid-week evening meetings could be held at the same location, in North Blackburn.

As always, you are invited to suggest alternative dates and venues.

I'd enjoy the trip to Hanging Rock this time around. Though my Echo isn't a huge and powerful machine, it's great for economy and reliability (Touch wood), and I would be happy to pick up at most three others on the way through. This includes you, John, if you are worried about your vehicle. If there is anyone thinking of coming- if you could let us know and give someone who's going your phone number. It's good to go to these locations, but even better to actually meet up with the other Avalonions.:o i wonder how much it's changed, and how busy it will be. I know there's a kiosk/cafe at the bottom...

I would also be happy to pop along to Blackburn for the one after that, if all are in agreement and the poles don't shift before then.
