Hey, everyone! I'm curious as to what your experiences with the Canada Census has been. Did you fill it out this year? Or even just part of it? If you didn't fill it out at all, what happened afterwards? What were your reasons for or against giving out your information?
Any information would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance. <3

I just have an issue (as I'm sure many of you are.) telling the government my name and birthdate and all that. Even though they already have that information, I don't wanna just HAND it to them, y'know? It would really be wonderful if I could hear about somebody's experience(s) with this. <3

I filled it in. I'm an amateur geneologist and this census is even less 'intrusive' than the 1841 UK one. It only asks for your name, address and birthdate. If any of my descendants sourced it for info on me, they'd get very little. So is the government.
Actually I felt that it's a cop out for them. No info means no opposition. They are not providing anyone who wants to either apply for funding or make a complaint about lack of funding, to prove the need. There will be no updated statistics available to the many groups that use this info to make wise correlations between populations, and financial health, and education level, and home ownership and a host of other social factors. These were used widely by our social agencies in dialogues with the governmenat at all levels. There's no mother tongue, birth country, years in Canada, income, even employment (full or part time) etc etc. How can you wisely run a country without knowing the make up of the country? And we know Canada's make up is drastically changed from the last census. Harper has no interest in social programmes and the census proves that. (BTW I did make a comment on mine to that effect).

Mines still sitting in the envelope it came in on my microwave. Someone already came to the door and asked some basic questions - good enough for me. I like my anonymity - I'm not even searchable on google ;-)

In the past, I never filled it out. I told them I didn't want to. Phone call after phone call threatening me with police; nothing ever became of it. I did not contract with them when they called. I say this not as direction or advice - rather, sharing my experience. I will add, I am advantaged, then most.

:D I understand, DeDuksyn - although I AM searchable under this name on Google, I am SUCH a private person and can't be bothered with all this data-mining. Granted, it's "only" a name and birthdate and language(s) spoken questionnaire, but it's still a pointless waste to me. We ended up filling ours out, but under what languages I spoke, I added "Plejari" (which is this Pleiadean language that I actually created for a series of books I've been writing!). So it's not a lie - it's just not a language they would recognize. :P I was reading on a forum (couldn't tell you which one - I read too many! :)) that, on the older forms where they asked about religion, somebody had said "Jedi", and I thought that was pretty funny. ;)
Thanks so much for your response! Lots of Love to you. <3

What makes you more advantaged than most, King Anthony? Or do you think their threats of jail and fines are just fear porn, to get people to comply, considering they never acted upon their threats with you?

Don't forget the test of compliance.
Are you going to comply with their requests?

See, that's really what it was coming down to for me - if I don't stand up against this, what's next? And also, how many other people are just doing it to avoid being harassed (by phone calls and knocks on the door.) or avoid being threatened? And is that REALLY reason enough to do something, because you don't wish to be harassed? Are people gonna line up to get the RFID chip (or something else just as sinister.) just because they don't wish to be harassed and/or threatened? Those were the thoughts that I had about the whole thing. It's just crazy because we think about these things, while the rest of the World just fills out their forms like good little robots and doesn't ask questions. I know you all understand when I say that sometimes, it's hard, y'know?
Thanks so much for your comment, Lord Sidious.

All of the information we are asked to provide in a census is known by the government anyways. I think it really is a test of compliance. My wife filled ours out and sent it in last week. I wish she hadn't. The previous 2 census' I refused to fill out and there were no repercussions. Just phone calls and then they stopped. It is really just information that StatsCan can use to help our government justify making policy changes based on the new info that was gathered. I say 'new' only because the Canadian government doesn't want to expose how much it already spies on us as it is...

*Sigh*. I hear ya', Karma. We ended up filling it out, which was my partner's decision and not my own - he just didn't wanna deal with any possible harassment. Which was why I said above that, if we don't stand up now, when WILL we stand back? It gets frustrating sometimes, doesn't it? :) But it's great that we have a place like Avalon where we can suss these things out, you know? Maybe next time, we won't participate and see what happens. <3

Dear Holly,
Just wanted to share that I have refused to fill out my census. I have had 5 or 6 phone calls now, one visit and a phone call yesterday from the supervisor of the individual who visited me. She indicated that the census is lawful and that I am risking going to jail. She then informed me that she will be coming out in person to take my declaration of refusal.
I said to her "well then we will see you when you get here, bye now". I'm a single, female senior with nothing to hide. The government already has all the stats they are asking for on record in many places, ie birth certificate, drivers license, CRA, and on and on.
These stats are going to Lockheed Martin Corp, a non Canadian Company who specializes in Wars>>>>>>>>>>>>>>why would I want this company to have my private information under the guise that it is just their software system collecting the stats for Canada, UK, Australia and probably every other so called freed country from the arms or reaches of the Monarch!!!
Canada reassurance that this info is confidential and very safe also went down the tube when Lockheed Martin was hacked quite seriously in the last week!
I will not comply and if they want to put an old lady in jail, then so be it as I will not compromise my integrity or spiritual beliefs of peace on earth to a warring Lockheed Martin and countries waging war such as Canada, UK, Australia under the veil of Peace Keepers.........NOT!!!
That's my take on it all.

They came by twice. Both gentlemen were very nice. We opted to let them know we're not eligible to partake in it. I talked to the first man, hubby to the second.
Same thing with the dogcatcher who came by to ask us about a license for the our little One's best friend.
Our (hubby and I) experience is: If One conducts themselves peacefully and from the heart with the best intent for everyOne involved, there does not need to be any sort of conflict with any "authority".
If One does not claim ownership to Government property (or any other claim, really) and conducts themselves appropriately by asking polite (not accusatory) questions, there is no reason for any conflict.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. So be blessed, and don't worry or be afraid or stress out or create conflict where there doesn't need to be any. Life is too short!

My friend had the council send the ranger around about their two dogs not being licensed.
They sent him a letter demanding that he sign the license forms and send them back in with payment.
I coached him to write them a conditional acceptance asking them if they were attempting to compel him to contract, if so then who with, what was in it for him and how could they compel this?
To end the letter he wrote that if they could answer those questions, cash the enclosed cheque.
They never did cash it or come back about his dogs.
A bit of out of the box thinking and you get your remedy.

I've never paid a dog license nor will I. Just a cash grab. But I also am not afraid to stand up (figuratively) and say my name and where I live. Best to pick your fights, and then be a formidable opponent. Like the G20 which we did a LOT of powerful energy work against and managed to wake some people up including the local press. A census is not it IMHO.

Hi Holly, great idea for a thread.
Information that I read or heard somewhere, said that some 20,000 canadians wrote that they were a Jedi Knight on their last Canadian census.
My opinion is that it is 40 pages of, none of thier business.
I don,t want to sound smug about it, but, I hate the Feds.

The Jedi comment is from the UK I believe and it is a hopeful sign that some are awakening from the real oppressor on this planet - religion. I was looking for the religion question in order to put Jedi as our religion but it's been axed. BTW it's 3 pages - What's your name, age, where do you live, and what's your language?

The US had their census last year and I didn't fill mine out. They came back about 5 times to give me another form which went back into the circular file. I don't invest any emotional content to it at all like I'm breaking the law or anything , it just is what it is.
If push comes to shove...coming after me is one thing. Catching me is another.
Only one census person got pissy with me, stating that if I lived at the address in question I had to fill out the form. I asked him what made him think I lived here? I mean standing in the driveway is no proof of residency....lol. No answer, never heard from them again. If they punished everyone who didn't fill out a census they'd have a build a whole new prison system.
They made right girt pests of themselves in this area. I was polite to them and even took a few minutes to tic off the number of census workers that get murdered for being pests during census time. Just because you know, I'm nice and wanted them to have something to think about as they drive around in these boring remote woodsy backroads filled with drunk angry rednecks with shotguns....

Thank you so much, everyone, for your awesome comments - your ideas and opinions and regaling of your experiences. Even if we don't pick THIS as our "fight", so to speak, it's wonderful that we ask these questions and brainstorm together - my favourite thing about Avalon. :) Your comments mean a lot to me. <3
