Major kudos to this young lady who decided she wasn't going to let our newly elected majority government pass all of their new initiatives and legislation without having her voice heard.

She decided to use her position as a page in our parliament to stage a quiet protest inside our senate during the Stephen Harper led Conservative government Speech to the Throne. She did not mince words in an interview she gave afterwards.
Great to see a young Canadian woman as passionate about change as this woman was!!!
It may have cost her job but this woman has a bright future ahead of her!
YOU GO GIRL!!!

Notice they mentioned contempt of parliament?
Believe it or not, parliament can sit as a court and judge people for crimes.
I hope she doesn't become the first in however long to find this out.

I say, the measure of one's act is deemed by that which follows; for who claims "command" is not and these things are for no one to change or take away. I say these words with hopelessness, for I have come to realize that conditioning prevails.

Don't know about UK, but in the U.S., a standard 12-person jury can judge laws and get rid of them:
Juries in the United States have the right and power to judge the law as well as the facts. This means that a jury can acquit a defendant for any reason or none and need not give any reason for it's decision. Therefor bad statutes that are unconstitutional or immoral can be set aside, or good laws that are misapplied can be ignored. This is called "jury nullification." For more information see F.I.J.A., the Fully Informed Jury Association on the Web or call 1-800-TEL-JURY.

I believe there's something similar in the UK, not sure of the legal terminology, but the jury has the sole right to convict or acquit the defendant. At the end of a criminal trial the judge sums up the case and can direct the jury to a particular verdict. Needless to say, when thejudge does this, the jury normally obediently complies.
There was one case a number of years ago however, when they did not. I can't remember the details, but it certainly made the news headlines.
Anyway - all power to this girl, good to see that there are people of her generation who actually have some guts, maybe there is hope after all !

I have a hope that if there were enough more like her standing up as she did that those faint of heart souls in the Parliament (and our Congress) would start to 'defect' as well...

It seems unlikely they will find her in contempt or even charge her with a lesser crime. The young lady was held and questioned but was freed without having a charge laid against her. She acted calm and cool and did not cause a scene once she was asked to leave. The main reason for concern is that she was able to sneak this sign in under her dress. One can only hope she did not give the government a reason to begin strip or invasive searches of parliamentary employees or guests.

I am not sure what you mean with your response. Why see hopelessness when we have evidence that young people are taking action and bold ones at that? While this young lady might have been taking action due to her own political leanings, we are witness to the mindset of some of our young people and they are strong and unwilling to simply stand by... She is not weak or passive and she did not bow down to our newly appointed ruler in his own house!!! What more could one ask for...than a start.

My words are this; the young person's act has done nothing. However, it does show dissention. The issue is, this young person is still within the conditioning/programming that has been imposed.
"The few" (the ruling class) control and it does not matter who appears to be "elected", "the few" will always remain in power. Politicians are puppets and have no control, here or elsewhere - it is an illusion.
This country claims democracy yet the people do not have understanding of this. I give explanation of this in this thread Stop Rupert Murdoch (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?15444-Stop-Rupert-Murdoch&p=162334#post162334).
The "rule" over the people, which is voluntarily given, as well as currency and civilization overall belongs to "the few" and "those others". I give explanation in this thread Starve the beast (http://projectavalon.net/forum4/showthread.php?21809-Starve-the-beast...&p=234023#post234023).
The helplessness I say, is my personal feeling with those who believe they are "awake".

Thanks for the response and I can't say I disagree with many of the points you make. Part of the conditioning is feeling hopeless and living in fear. The article I attached discusses this young woman calling for Canada's "Arab spring" and her hope that it could spread around the world. Government is a forum for people to discuss decisions that were not made by the participants. When we want to see people come "outside of the box" we have to sit inside the box and proclaim..."Holy Crap! I am stuck inside a box!".
There is a turn of mind taking place that is obvious to me and many I associate with. People are waking up to the 'real' power and understanding that little our governments or TPTB do is for the good of the people, but rather for the good of the 'power'. But there is change in the air! There is a local radio show in Ottawa (Michael Harris live) that features Gerald Celente and Max Keiser as regular guests. The same show might also feature political leaders and newspaper columnists. The mix and message of the show are an indication that we are becoming willing to discuss issues that address the programming rather than just the regularly scheduled garbage that most shows feature. Don't get me wrong, there is still plenty of garbage on this show too, but again...it's a start.
If you want to see people wake up you need to go inside the dreams of the asleep and shout loud enough until they stir and come to... Perhaps this young womans message is too quiet...too insignificant in the grand scheme. But it is a start and I am encouraged. The young will lead the change not the old.

I say, for clarity, my feelings of hopelessness is not reflected towards myself but rather for that of humanity - in knowing time is short and humanity is, on this path, far from achievement.
Government is not a forum for the "people", of the "people" or representative of the "people"; rather it is for "the few" and "those others", thus it does not belong to the "people".
If one seeks comfort, then they shall find it, with such things as theory, faith, belief and opinion; however, comfort will only aid with the ease of pain if nothing more is done.
I say, tomorrow is for the young and old and not just for one or the other; for the foundation of the young is based on that of the old, and the "goals" and "dreams" of the old is based on that of the young.

Just an update to this story. The young woman has written a powerful explanation for her action in the House.

Good for her!!!! More Americans should do this. It's going to take a lot more waking up for Americans to create an uprising.

Amazing words and so encouraging to hear that our youth are aware of the mess that our leaders are leaving for us... I felt moved by this ladies actions and I am excited to hear her explanation and her justifications. She is wise beyond her years and already a leader. So few are willing to take bold actions to have their voices heard and here is a shining example of someone who will!!! Power to the people and join this young lady in her peaceful and intelligent protest!
This current government's actions do not reflect the desires of the Canadian people. The announcement of new fighter jets, new military bases around the world and the pledge to stop 'hate crimes' on the internet (I am concerned what they determine that means!) are just a few examples of things Canadians did not know were on the agenda when we democratically elected this government.
Thank you Twincans for posting this! I am not in Toronto and rarely read the Star so I would have missed this otherwise!
edit: to be truthful we knew about the fighter jets but most Canadians are opposed.

She is still going. This young lady just delivered a speech and spoke to reporters while taking part in a protest against our government. Although there is a political slant to her views (she is left wing and opposes right wing agenda's) she still talks about taking action and how small acts can have a big impact. I hope her enthusiasm doesn't wane or get swallowed up by the left wing agenda, which is just as crooked and pie in the sky as the right wing agenda.

There is some definite good to be seen in people reacting and not sitting idle while policy and agendas they don't agree with are rolled out.
