View Full Version : Huge Solar Eruption!
SDO AIA observed an enormous prominence this morning associated with a M2.5 solar flare that peaked at 6:41 UT. This is a very large explosion of cool gas on the Sun. It is somewhat unique that there seems to be even cooler material at temperatures less than 80,000K at many places this eruption (Thanks Harry Warren for noticing this!) - as seen by the darker regions in front that absorb the other enhanced emissions formed behind the dark regions in this channel. Material from this region looks as though it mostly falls back to the solar surface covering an area of almost half of the solar surface!https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/tracker/6369594138980582994-4878632215251547649?l=sdoisgo.blogspot.com

Them "EMV's" around the sun should be getting a bit of power by now..

This links you to a map that shows where solar flares are hitting the earth and at what strength.
It is hitting the Artic pretty heavy.

I always appreciate this guy's analysis of solar events and also his general updates/reports. He tends to provide a lot of detailed info/data and always come across as being grounded/rational.
Enjoy...

X Class 2.5... will be hitting us starting on the 9th, the current storm is nothing compared to the Auroras coming from this one...

Thank you, for posting these links. I took a look yesterday, at the NASA site and played all the CME movies. This mpeg large crop really was fascination. Somehow, i could see a very giant laser beam hit the sun spot and another object as well that then exploded - apparently. And both the laser and the object explosion caused the CME. The CME followed right after. There is also a very large non planetary object that appears quickly and vanishes. What do you see. And it's only visible in the mpeg movie not the quicktime movie. Here is the link: [URL="http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/hotshots/2011_06_07/M2_CME_304_large_crop.mpg"] (http://sohowww.nascom.nasa.gov/hotshots/2011_06_07/M2_CME_304_large_crop.mpg) What do you see?

eva08 are you talking about the strange object and beam to the right of the sun as in the below clip at approx 29 seconds in?

I could not find it at 0:29 on your clip. What I was looking at would be within the first couple seconds on the video you posted, if it could be slowed down. I'll try again here until I get this insertion of links to work - sorry, so slow, here. There are 2 things: one a laser beam that comes from about 5 o/c straight up into the sunspot just before it erupts. It looks like a giant thick laser -- or what is it? Then, I can see a frequency grid from about 3:30 o/c directly into the sun spot going in or coming out, I cannot exactly determine - suddenly there - it looks like the tip of a space rocket; then you can see the sun spot eruption, the laser disappear and the explosion debris disintegrating. This is just my interpretation of what I am looking at, but I am not familiar with these - i am asking who else is able to decipher what I am looking at here. And then there is this UFO / object appearing very briefly at about 6 o/c below the sun. This clip moves very fast, I watched it several times. And I could see these things by moving the slider back and forth viewing the singe frames.
