Decided that the time of month is right to plant garlic. Okay, look in fridge and sight a whole bag, goodie!!

Upon reading the label which mentioned Hornby Christchurch as the distributors, I was aghast to read at the bottom 'Product of China" First thought was, its probably irradiated and won't grow if planted. So, what to do? Douse, to check. Dousing revealed that the garlic in front of me was not radiated, but that it was genetically modified. Rats!!! No way was I planting that crap, nor eating the garlic!! Into the fire it went.

Chinese garlic is also generally bleached to be whiter and could be grown with human excrement as fertiliser.
I won't buy it for my table and I LOVE garlic.

About 75% of garlic sold in the US is from China.

Well Im usually careful buying garlic and I know I would have scanned the label to see if it was NZ grown. Saw the Hornby ChCh part but didnt look further to the smaller print at the bottom 'Product of China' Wont be caught next time, but there wont be a next time, I will grow all I need in my own garden.

Off topic a bit, but I'll tell you about following Anastasia's advice on growing vegetables. She advises gardeners to hold the seed of what you want plant in your mouth for a period of time so that the seeds are imprinted with your vibration and grow conpatibily with yourself. (Dunno how one would get on with seed spuds!!!)LOL Anyway, I thought I'd try this and put a small handful of seeds into my mouth. Then my son rode up on his farm bike to see me. Thought I had finally gone completely gaga, standing there with a mouthful of seeds trying to tell him what I was doing!!!!

Pickled Garlic

1/2 cup white wine vinegar
1/2 cup dry white wine (but I like Chardonay)
1 small dried chile pepper
1 small thyme sprig
1 small rosemary sprig
1 small bay leaf
10 black peppercors
2 teaspoons sugar
1/2 tsp pickling salt
1 cup peeled frsh garlic

put all into a nonractive pan except garlic and boil for 5 minutes
Take off heat, add garlic and bring to a boil again and then remove
from heat right away. Let stand at room temp for 24 hours.

Bring pan to boil again then transfer toa half pint jar.
Let cool and cover tighly with a non reactive cap
Store in the refrigerator. Garlic will be ready to eat in
5 days and will keep for a long time

My variation is that I do not boil the wine
and I bring the garlic to a boil only once.

another variation is to boil all the ingredients
and never boil the garlic. This makes for a very hot
garlic preparation, and not everyone likes it.. but it
will keep a long time. In this case you must let it sit
for at least 3 weeks before eating.

sometimes I use the sugar and sometimes I dont.

Boiling the garlic makes it less hot

We usually eat two cloves of one or the other each day.
