I do think about this too. The problem is the "survival of the fitest" philosophy and the concept that people that have more are better than the ones that don't. It is up to us individually to make choices that will dismatle this philosophy. We can do many things individualy like buying fairtrade, avoid heavily packed products, request bio degradable carrier bags, buy local food rather than food that has been transported for miles and miles. It may seem counter intuitive but if we pay fair it will get fair. We may have less things but do we really need all that we have? When I was a child my mum only had a few dresses that lasted few seasons or got re-made. Do we have to change our clothes that often? When is the last time we used something to death? The girl at the other end may be a chinese girl that is being paid a pittance for making the cheap t-shirt that one buys from Tesco

We in the west are the ones that are exploiting the rest of the world, if we stop things will not be easy at the begining but we will get there

I lived in 3rd world countries for many years and the main problem is the inequality between the prices we are prepared to pay locally and the prices we pay for imported goods. The 3rd world does not need our charity, they need equality and that is something we can do by changing our habits and consumption

My 5 cents

i agree with you dear stardust heart,

My father has /workedlived in many different countries in africa. i was lucky enough to spend some time in Cameroon in the late 80's.

For africa to find freedom.. they need equality NOT charity!! Hear HEar!!

May your words resonate painfully in the ears of the ones that havent listened...
