Everybody in Melbourne, or Australia for that matter, get out and go see the moon right now.
It's extremely low, has an orange tinge to it, and seems to be very very close.
Anybody else see this right now? Something doesn't feel right........extreme wind warning is in place right now.

The moon is definitely VERY close and im no expert but i have never seen the moon this 'low'. The last time i saw the moon like this was back on 19 March 2011 'the supermoon'.
There is something definitely not right with the earth and i can really feel it in the past few days with the strong wind (around the melbourne area). The earth feels extremely angry.

I've gone out with a friend and snapped some pictures on his digital camera, but I don't know when I'll be able to upload them. My phone is kind of ancient, has no camera at all lol.
Will definitely get photos up here some how. No matter where you are in the world though, I'm sure you will see something similar on your side by night fall.

My girlfriend has lived in the same house all her life. She said she has only seen the moon that low just when it becomes visible as the sun begins to set. But not at 10:00. And it looks HUGE right now.
Bills thread on Gaias cry, 2012, the earth tilting, severe weather warning in Melbourne, March's supermoon, tonights strange moon, another big earth quake for Japan coming.
Something may be around the corner. We just can't tell what Mother is about to cough up these days.

I am seeing the moon in Byron. Looks to be in the same position as usual but there is a strange haze or dust storm surrounding the moon.
It look a little strange to me. Wish I had a telescope.

I think u might find that its the ash from the Chilean Volcano that is causing that dust around the moon, and the colours.
We saw red moons after the bushfires also.
"Strong winds have carried the ash cloud half way around the world, snarling travel as far away as Australia.
The Australian carrier Qantas said all flights in and out of the southern island of Tasmania and to New Zealand remained grounded on Monday, but it lifted a ban on flights to and from the southern Australian city of Melbourne.
Hours after the airline began working through the backlog of thousands of passengers stranded in Melbourne, it cancelled several flights into Adelaide after the plume moved into South Australian airspace."
from here.... http://www.news24.com/SciTech/News/Chile-volcano-causes-havoc-20110613
that was on 2011-06-14, so... i'm tipping this is your red moon puzzle solved.

We had a red moon a few days ago, caused by a total lunar eclipse.
I suspect what you were seeing is coloration caused by ash from the Chilean volcano at high altitudes. I agree with Astrid on this one.
