Reps. Ron Paul (R-TX) and Barney Frank (D-MA) are set to introduce a bipartisan bill today that would remove the federal prohibition on marijuana. The bill would instead let states legalize, regulate and tax marijuana.

The USA Today reports the bill is being championed by a legalization advocacy group:

The Marijuana Policy Project highlights that 46.5% of Californians voted for Proposition 19. It also cites a report released this month by the Global Commission on Drug Policy that slammed the decades-old war on drugs and called on governments to take a look at decriminalizing marijuana and other drugs.

The bill by Frank and Paul would "end state/federal conflicts over marijuana policy, re-prioritize federal resources and provide more room for states to do what is best for their own citizens," the group says.

Politico says the legislation is modeled after the 21st Amendment to the Constitution, which repealed the federal prohibition on alcohol and handed that responsibility to the states. Quoting the Marijuana Policy Project, Politico reports its "the first bill ever introduced in Congress to end federal marijuana prohibition."

But, as CNN money puts it, the bill is a long shot. But part of the point, adds CNN, is to start a conversation.

The bill is co-sponsored by Reps. John Conyers (D-MI), Steve Cohen (D-TN), Jared Polis (D-CO), and Barbara Lee (D-CA).

IMO, putting pot in the postion of being taxed and regulated might do more towards controlling its use than the whole history of the 'War on Drugs'.
In the end, the high cost of using cigarettes are what finally got people to kick the habit.

Now before proponents of MJ get after me, this is not an indictment of things hemp--I find it one of the all-time useful plants and think it's many benefits are being suppressed. I am simply speaking about those who do not use it as a tool but as a crutch--the ones the anti-legalization peeps get all upset about and think will be loosed to run wild in our nice country.

it isn't just the tax money created, it is the tax money saved on the prison system, in California it was ~5000 arrests / day. $150/ day to hold them until Court...

of course there is one main group fighting to prevent this from happening...

The lawyers that used to get the 5000 off the hook each day... ;)

now the third Huge advantage is by legalizing it, there is no need for bootleggers, crime drops and less people put themselves into danger purchasing illegal drugs...

many of us have understood this for years.

It is the answer to winning the war on drugs...

I find it ridiculous to regulate and tax that which grows freely everywhere. It is a gift from Gaea to us....a simple weed that can do so much. Clothing, rope, nutritious seeds to eat, oil for healing, smoke for pain relief...it's many uses are almost limitless.

Blind greed has kept this precious gift from us...labeling it an addictive drug that harms. Yet not one person has died from this weed, nor is it addicting. The same cannot be said for alcohol, tobacco or prescription drugs.

there is an old pamphlet out that talks about how it breaks down the mind control that has been implemented. It keeps your mind opened up to other things besides their manipulaton.

Cannibus is a TRUTH serum, and enables a person to think for themselves in alignment with nature. ALL is frequency, and ANY oil from nature has a frequncy purpose in healing.

I tend to think these stupid cannibus substitutes, like Spice are actually cancer causing.

They make a chemical in a lab that tricks your brain into thinking it is getting THC, JUST LIKE HOW ASPERTAIME TRICKS YOUR BRAIN INTO THINKING IT IS TASTING SWEET.... ASPERTAME CAUSES BRAIN CANCERS!

is this another level of why its been illegal for so long?

This is a current topic of debate in my household. I see the pros and the cons...but my resting place has been, 'yeah, but it's better to develop that kind of discernment and seeing without needing the props. I believe most shamans concur.

There was never a war on drugs just the government keeping all its competitors down ~ so that the drugs most profitable; Opium, Heroin, Cocaine, could fill their coffers.

Most of the wars have an underbelly of massive amounts of Opium being processed, transported, and sold on the streets of each and every country in the world.

This money keeps Wall Street Bankers wealthy as well. All of this ends now as duality ends and the Earth takes back her own and ejects all the rest who have profited off the misery of men who had no freedom and wished for a happier place in their own minds to dwell. We shall create a Heaven on Earth now and not need the exploitation of any being. That's what is happening as the poles shift and settle. It's about time.

As far as new legislation goes, this is just spinning wheels. These people have never worked in our behalf and will not be starting now. New leadership will step in soon and straighten it out. Most of the draconian laws will be overturned. And so it is... xoxoxo
